Place 72 – Day 989: Vancouver, BC – Leftover Curry

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting right away in the morning, a new hire’s orientation. They were a really nice person so that was good!

After that, it was all tickets for the day. He had a couple of meetings with people to help them with things and he had to do some admin and organisation.

Curtis is going to be at the office all day tomorrow.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a no meeting start to her day so she was able to use the time to work through some smaller quick wins, which was awesome! She then had a call with her manager to plan the week before joining a call with a colleague to see how they are doing.

Kim then had two 1-1s to see how a couple of new starters have been settling in and how everything is going. She then had a team meeting before having a team training session and finishing the day with more 1-1s with new employees and managers.

Evening

Kim got home from pole and we had some leftover curry from last night, which was still incredible!

We watched some TV and relaxed, but Kim did have to do a little more work, too.

Place 72 – Day 975: Vancouver, BC – Actual Food?!

Curtis’ Day

We started the day together, actually, and had a different breakfast! We are looking to get Kim eating breakfast, so we had a smoothie and Kim had some overnight oats! Something a little different, fairly healthy and easy to eat.

Curtis got ready for the day and then began work. He had a lot to catch up on but luckily, his mouth was feeling quite a bit better today.

He had some admin to do to catch up from his time off and then throughout the day he did some product work as well as some tickets that came in.

There was one team meeting to attend, so he attended that, and in the afternoon he was able to write up and send an email with regards to a project, which was the next big step.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a good day today! She started in a meeting reviewing job descriptions that are ready to send out to new starters soon before joining an interview. After the interview Kim assisted with a discussion about process and questions to ask that would make the screening process easier.

Kim was then able to make a couple of purchases and then join a product review to see if it is the right purchase for the company. She then joined the weekly team meeting to discuss projects and next steps.

To start the afternoon Kim had a quick hiring and planning meeting with a department to make sure that the current plan aligns with what they may need into the future. She also had a check in with a manager to make sure their new starter is settling in nicely.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim joined two interviews and their reviews. She ended the day with a call with her managers where they went into more detail on plans, projects and next moves for the department.

Evening

Once Kim finished work, we had some gnocchi with pesto and tomatoes for dinner. The first ‘actual’ food for Curtis since his surgery. It wasn’t super easy to eat and there was a little pain, but he managed it and was happy to have some solid food.

Kim did a little more work in the evening and then we watched some TV and relaxed.

Place 72 – Day 968: Vancouver, BC – Exciting Interviews!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was up early to have a call at 07:30, for a new hire onboarding in Denver. He did that, which went very well, and then he started his day of meetings!

He had a team meeting at 10:30, followed right after by another team meeting and then a meeting to discuss something regarding a the main project Curtis is working on at the moment.

After that was done, Curtis finally had time for some lunch, after he helped someone with their password issues.

Curtis did some more tickets and some project admin after lunch and then he had a call with someone to help them do something.

Once he finished that chat, he had a bit more project work to do before the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a really long and interesting day today with a couple of surprise meetings. As she went to start her day Kim got a notification that her teammate was sick so Kim stepped in to do the onboarding for two new starters! It has been many months since Kim did an onboarding and she had to set up a secondary meeting so they can talk directly with her teammate to get information on part of the onboarding. Other than that it went really well!

She then joined a call with a manager to discuss how a new employee is settling in. They also had a chat about a few processes and procedures, it was a great call! Kim then just didn’t turn up to a meeting with the CEO and COO, for no reason at all other than that she was in the zone and forgot about the meeting entirely!

When Kim joined her team meeting she was greeted with a ‘oh here she is!’ as a result of missing her last meeting, it was so funny! They had a great team meeting and got everyone up to speed in terms of things that happened on Friday and some ideas that Kim had over the weekend. It was such a great meeting! From this meeting Kim and her manager both joined an interview to find the newest member of their team. They also had a quick review after the interview and Kim then took some time for lunch.

Just as she was finishing her lunch Kim had a message to see if she could join a meeting to help out with some communication and it was great to jump in and help out!

She then had a end of day chat with the new starters to check in and see how the day went! Both seemed happy and to have enjoyed their day which was amazing!

Kim then went into a meeting to discuss the breakdown of roles within the executive support team and they really managed to work out the responsibilities and description for an upcoming hire. She then joined a surprise meeting to discuss hiring with a couple of hiring managers as they seemed concerned about the status and possibly a little confused / out of the loop. So they all got on a call to ensure they were all on the same page, thus then spiralled into a really important and interesting meeting that ironed out a fair few things. It was great!

Kim took a break for some dinner and then went back to update paperwork and move it from one area to another to make it easier to read and understand. She then had a call with her manager to help them with an update and then they worked out and brainstormed a bunch of things and it was wonderful.

Evening

Curtis played games whilst Kim worked and, as Kim had to work late, we just had frozen pizza for dinner.

We were able to watch a bit of TV before heading to bed.

Place 72 – Day 965: Vancouver, BC – A Chair Adventure

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had more of his project to do, which he did in any spare time he had today. He actually found more work to do for it, again, but he did make progress.

He had quite a lot of tickets to get done today, so he did those around his project and the meetings he had.

Curtis had a team meeting followed by a discussion about a project.

Once that meeting was completed, he got more tickets and project work done before having lunch.

After lunch, Curtis had a team meeting to discuss the previous set of projects they got done and then after that he did some tickets and part of an offboard.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a wonderful day today! She started with a recruitment meeting and was able to work with the exec team and recruiter on four roles to get them ready to go live next week! She then joined a planning and storm session with a big group of people and really enjoyed it. It’s so interesting to see how people want to tackle big and difficult hurdles.

Kim then joined a product demonstration and had a quick discussion after about it. She then joined a 1-1 with a manager to discuss how things are going with their new employee. To then finish her ‘in office’ part of the day Kim had a 1-1 with one of her teammates.

The first errand Kim tackled was to send a laptop out to a colleague. She met a teammate at the courier drop off, they sorted that out and then went to Apple to pick up an order, then they picked up coffee.

Kim dropped her friend / colleague at their home and went to go and pick up another colleague to run an errand with them. They then went to that person’s old apartment to pick up a deliveryof a chair that ended up at the wrong address and on the way home popped by the CEOs house to pick up a TV that was leant to them by Kim’s friend / colleague.

She then dropped her colleague and their new chair off at their house and then she popped by her friends house to return the TV. She also stopped by to day hello to the kittens. After all of that Kim went home!

Evening

Once Kim got home, we ordered ourselves some Chinese food and watched a quiet place II.

We relaxed for the evening and were very excited to do some sleeping tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 964: Vancouver, BC – Working Out Again

Curtis’ Day

Curtis continued the project he was working on yesterday at any spare moment today, but he did have some other things to do.

He had to do 2 contractor onboards, as well as some tickets. Curtis then had a couple of meetings throughout the day. One was a team meeting, the second a meeting with someone to discuss a potential project and some research Curtis had done and then the third was a one on one.

Curtis got more of the project done whilst he wasn’t in meetings and overall had a successful day.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with a three month check in to see how a new employee has been settling in. She then managed to have a quick call with her colleague before getting some admin done and then having a short surprise call with a manager. They both then joined the department updates meeting.

Kim went straight from the department updates meeting into the weekly recruitment meeting. Some great decisions were made and there are lots of great plans in process. That call overran but Kim had a spare fee minutes so jumped on the social call for a little while, guessed a charades round and left on a win!

After lunch Kim rushed back to get ready for an interview to realise that the interview was in 45 minutes rather than 15. So she used the time to chase the courier service for an update on the missing item.

Kim then joined the interview and it overran and she then joined a review call which took a while. There were some great conversations that spun off from the review and it was amazing!

In the evening Kim was able to get a fair few info pages up and running. She was so happy to get these things underway and set up for people to use!

Working Out!

Our gym in our building has opened now, and it must be booked by one household at a time. We could only book it for 10pm, but that was fine with us.

We had a small dinner before hand and then walked down to the gym to get some working out done, for the first time in a long, long time!

We felt pretty good after, but a little tired!

We relaxed for the remaining evening and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 963: Vancouver, BC – Plums!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis spent the entire day getting a project sorted. He was unable to get it fully done, but made some more really good progress on it.

For the project, he had to contact a few people and ask them if they still need something and if so, he had to talk them through what to do.

That was the entire day, as well as a few tickets here and there, some admin and 2 team meetings.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day earlier than usual and met a colleague who had load of plums for Kim to give to other employees! So she collected all the plums then grabbed a coffee on the way home. Once she was home Kim managed to get a lot of admin done! She sent out reminders and notifications to the company as well as added to info pages.

She then had a connect with two of her teammates to discuss a bug batch purchase of stuff over the next few weeks. It was really helpful to have other people check that what Kim thinks needs to be ordered is in line with what they think would be a good idea. For the rest of the morning Kim was on a call to discuss policies, plans and other really interesting things.

Kim then had a 1-1 check in with a new employee to see how their first few weeks have been for them. It was such a great chat. She then popped out to a shop to pick up a few things ahead of a really interesting meeting.

For most of the afternoon most of the company joined a workshop on diversity, equity and inclusion. It was a hard workshop and required a lot of inward looking but it is was also so beautiful. People asked questions, interacted with each other and really got involved with discussion, it was a really amazing experience. They also spent a lot of time discussing hiring and how that can be made more equitable, which was obviously fantastic for Kim’s team! Kim feels really lucky to work with such amazing people who want to learn, do better and be better. After the call there were several messages stating that the call was amazing and Kim was really pleased to hear that people know the value in workshops like these and are excited to attend.

Kim then drove into the office where she met people throughout the evening to give them plums! She also joined a meeting once she arrived to discuss hiring and changes there withing a department. It was such a brilliant meeting. She then stayed on the call with just her teammates and they went over some of the amazing points from the training call earlier in the day.

While Kim waited for people to pick up plums she managed to get the laptop that crashed partially set up. Once all the visits were completed Kim met Curtis to exchange laptops for the remainder of the plums and she dropped them off at someone’s house. When she got back Kim cooked dinner while on the phone with a colleague, sent over an estimation to the finance team and then managed to finish the laptop and arrange a pickup. It was a good end to a really good day.

Evening

We had homemade veggie lasagne for dinner and watched a little TV before sleeping.

Place 72 – Day 961: Vancouver, BC – New Glasses!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a quick onboard orientation in the morning and then joined his team to use a new software for 2 weeks!

Curtis had to setup accounts for another new hire and then he got right into a team meeting followed by some project work, which lasted really for most of the day.

After work, Curtis got the remainder of his Norwegian homework completed and thrn played some games whilst waiting for Kim to finish up work.

Curtis’ new glasses arrived today, so he can actually see well again!

Kim’s Day

Kim went to start her day with a meeting just as it got moved. So she was able to get some admin done. She then joined a meeting about a research project that will start over the next week or so.

Around mid morning Kim joined the recruitment meeting that was pushed from earlier in the morning. It was interesting and involved lots of interesting discussions. She then joined three different one week check ins before also having a one month chat. Kim really enjoys interacting with new employees and seeing how things are going.

In the afternoon Kim joined a team meeting before having a quick break for lunch. She then joined another recruitment meeting for a department to see the new roles they may want to hire for over the next 12 months.

Kim then had a a while to get a bit of admin done before she had a chat with a few people about another new role and how one team is likely to look and be shaped over the coming months.

In the evening Kim worked on setting up some laptops. Two worked fine and the final one has been a nightmare. Kim has totally set it up yet it still isn’t working as expected. The plan is currently to leave it overnight and try again in the morning. If that doesn’t work she will have to factory reset and start the whole process again!

Evening

We had a delicious dinner! Kim had a mushroom sandwich with caramelised onions and relish whilst Curtis made a steak sandwich with caramelised onions and relish. Delicious! We were still a little hungry after though, so we had some salad.

Kim finished up a bit more work and then we went out for a night walk.

Place 72 – Day 958: Vancouver, BC – Work Beach ‘Party’!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis continued doing project work for most of today again, around tickets and one meeting with his team.

A pretty productive day really, which he finished off by doing some Norwegian homework.

Curtis just played games whilst Kim was out in the evening.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim had a beach day at work! To get started for the day Kim did a coffee run and went to her colleagues home to her picked up by their teammate. They all then drove over to the beach and stopped by a shop to pick up some ice.

Once the three of them arrived at the beach they picked a great spot just behind a washed up log to set up the tent and be ready for people to arrive. They had a little while before people arrived and just hung out in the sun and enjoyed doing nothing.

Throughout the day various people came and went, bringing games, families and dogs. It was so wonderful to meet so many people in person for the first time. It was an effortlessly fun day with lots of laughing and fun!

Evening

Once Kim got home, we ordered some southern BBQ food and had a relaxing evening, which was needed after the amount of food we ate!

Place 72 – Day 957: Vancouver, BC – Surgery Booked

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had some work to do in the morning, just some standard things, and then he had to do some project work, which took far longer than expected!

After that, he had a quick meeting with some colleagues to discuss am ongoing project and then he had to do a different project which became a huge project but he got a decent amount of stuff work done on it.

At the end of the day, Curtis went for a consultation for his wisdom teeth removal. He has to have his wisdom teeth removed as they’re not really working as they should (one is sideways, one doesn’t fit!). They actually said they’re gonna do all of his wisdom teeth, rather than just the 2 bottom ones. He has to have full surgery under general anesthesia, due to them being close to the nerve. He had his appointment and booked in the surgery for the 22nd July, so not long to go. He is not excited.

Curtis played games and ate Kim’s leftover Indian food from lunch the other day, and he really enjoyed it.

Kim’s Day

Kim woke up to find one of her earlier meetings had been cancelled so she then had a relaxed start to her day that was a little more restful. She then had a call with a manager to discuss their new employee. They both then joined the weekly department heads meeting.

Kim then worked on a little admin before joining a meeting while she walked to pick up some items for an event this weekend. She went from that pickup to another store to pick up the final, important, prices for the beach day tomorrow – a ball and a frisbee!

As she walked home Kim had a surprise meeting with her manager and she picked up some coffees before getting home and joining a training meeting. She then had a quick chat with a manager to discuss a couple of their new starters.

To finish the day Kim joined and interview and then the review chat after before having a 1-1 chat with her teammate to see how the week had been for them. She then headed over to a colleagues house to pick them up as they both had to drop stuff off to an exec team member.

On the drive over they made a quick stop to pick up some cakes as they were invited to stay for tea. It was so strange to walk into someone’s house without a mask and spend a few hours laughing and hanging out, like in the normal world!

Kim and her colleague then left and had dinner in the park and continued chatting and just having fun. It was such a great evening!

Evening

Kim got back home from her outing and we relaxed, watching some TV.

Place 72 – Day 956: Vancouver, BC – England Football & A Parking Ticket

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started a project today, so he spent some time getting that done. He did also have a couple of meetings, though, one was a team meeting and the other was to discuss an ongoing project with a colleague and figure out the next steps.

He also did some tickets, some admin and a few other things, including some security work and then he was done for the day.

During the day, he also had the England game on and watched them (just) win! He doesn’t really care about football, but why not watch!

Kim’s Day

Kim had an eventful day, to say the least! She started off by heading to an office space that another company will let them use on an ad hoc basis. She quickly parked up, collected the keys and had a chat with someone she met in person for the first time! It was awesome.

Kim then popped out to move her car, she found an okay space and then found a perfect space so she moved her car there. She dropped a few things back in the office space and went out to grab a coffee. She bumped into her colleague and showed off her great parking spot before they went into the office.

They then spent most of the morning mapping out an finalising the dream onboarding proceeding. For a quick break they had a call with a wonderful new employee to say hello and catch up, it was awesome! They also had a call with a teammate to make sure the process makes sense to them and is achievable, no point two people making a decision without talking to people who know what they are doing!

Kim had to get a little admin done so she did that and then they both went and picked up lunch from am amazing Indian fusion place a couple of doors down the road and went back to the office to eat.

Kim was then super late to a meeting because she was in the zone with an admin task so she eventually turned up and apologized a lot! She then helped the final bits of collaboration admin for the day before heading out to pick up some items from a print shop.

When she got back to the car Kim was super sad to see a ticket and a local in the area said that it happens all the time in that spot. So that was a bit of an annoying end to a fun and productive day, but Kim had no time to wallow!

She went into downtown, found a parking lot and then went to the print shop and then to Staples to collect some things for an event people are heading to for the weekend.

Once she got home Kim had planned to complete two laptops, but she got totally distracted by other fun tasks, so did those instead and eventually made one laptop!

Evening

Kim got back home and did some more work and after that, we had yesterday’s leftovers for dinner and watched some TV then we went for a walk.

The weather is certainly cooling down now, which is super nice. Still warm but pleasant.
