Place 72 – Day 190: Vancouver, BC – A Slow One

Curtis’ Day

The day was very slow for Curtis today.

He didn’t really have anything planned for the day, but had 2 meetings back to back at the start of the day.

The day ended up being steady as tickets came in, but no project work for him at all.

Curtis fought with a laptop in the afternoon, which would do as he wanted it to, for some reason. He also helped a couple of people with their questions.

Weirdly, the day was slow work-wise, but fast time-wise!

Kim’s Day

Kim collected more RSVPs for the winter party and continued adding notes to her to do list.

She then went to get something from the stationary cupboard and couldn’t find it so she dragged everything out and reorganised it. She recently found 2 plastic baskets in her apartment buildings swap table and knew they would be perfect for the stationary cupboard and they were perfect too!

Kim then took am earlier lunch as she had a meeting in the early afternoon. Just after lunch Kim got caught on the phone with a potential vendor. They organised for Kim to arrange a lunch for her and the administrative team so Kim will look into setting that up for next week.

In the meeting with her colleague Kim went through the relatively long list of questions she stored up over the last week. Kim will bow be hanging up a whiteboard, responding to a rental company and she also got a lot of guidance on the Holiday party among many other things.

Kim went from this meeting straight into her bi-weekly 121 with her manager. They had a great catch up and Kim got a lot of guidance on how to love forward on a few things too!
After the meetings, Kim had a few items to action for the Holiday party and other communications that need to go out so she worked her way through these.

Free running!

Curtis watched the Leafs game which started at 19:00, so a couple of hours after the usual time, so he could watch the whole thing.

Kim went to free running to check the place out and then went to off to pole training.

Kim’s training tonight was far more successful than last week! She managed a fair few handstand related moves and even started to feel more confident with a differnt variety of climb which is wonderful!

We managed to watch one bit of TV before sleeping!

Place 72 – Day 189: Vancouver, BC – Broken Elevators

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and 3 out of the 6 elevators weren’t working!

Curtis crammed into one of them and just after he arrived at work, he was told that all of the elevators had stopped working, so he got there at the perfect time.

Curtis had his standard team meeting after doing a lot of a admin for the morning, but then really had nothing planned.

His day became busy, in a good way, and he was able to get a lot of tickets completed.

A concern was raised about something project related, so that is what Curtis spent most of his afternoon doing, after his team strategy meeting which lasted for an hour.

Right at the end of the day, Curtis did some project admin but also helped someone who had been having some issues for a few days.

Once that was done, it took Curtis perfectly to the end of the day.

Luckily, the elevators were working.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim had a day of getting the things she has been putting off done.

Kim started by sending out a chaser message about the Holiday party so she collected the RSVPs and gave the spreadsheets formulas so Kim doesnt have to do maths anymore, then the fruit arrived so Kim sorted all of that and then reorganised one of the other cupboards in the kitchen. Kim gutted it, sorted through plastic cutlery boxed up some plastic lids and just generally had a good clean up.

Kim then spent some time drafting up business cards and got them sent out to be made up.

Kim then sent a few emails about the holiday party and added more points to the to do list and moved some from ‘to do’ to ‘completed’ which is a win!

Throughout the day there were many deliveries, which Kim can only expect will increase over the next few coming months!

One of the deliveries for Kim’s colleague was ful of decorations for the holiday party. The only issue was that one of the things ordered was about a third of the size they wanted! So they will have to get more!

Kim then got her head down and scanned all of her receipts for the past month and saved them all too! This is so great as it means she will have done it just in time to reconcile!

Costco

We went over to Costco to get a few things from there on the way home.

We didn’t get much at all and were out within 20 minutes!

The weather was foul, so all of our bags and the box we carried got wet, but at least we got the items we needed.

Weekly Clean

We got home and did our weekly clean.

We took the rubbish and recycling out and then cleaned up around the apartment.

Kim walked up to the shop to get a few things and then when she got back, we had dinner.

Chicken Baguette

We had a chicken baguette for dinner, with mayonnaise and sweetcorn, accompanied by turkey stuffing crisps and some of our leftover “fancy” cheese.

We watched some TV, made some lunch for tomorrow and that was our evening!

Place 72 – Day 188: Vancouver, BC – All New Clothes

Richmond Shopping

We drove out to Richmond to go and do some shopping.

Kim still has some money left for her work items, so we went to get some of that sorted.

We got a coffee to start with, and then walked around a few shops.

We got to American Eagle, which we have both got clothes from before and bought a lot!

Curtis got a whole load of new T-Shirts and Kim got some new tops and jumpers.

We left there and checked a couple of other shops, but had more than enough already.

We drove to Homesense down the road so we could find a couple of trays we were looking for, but we didn’t!

We left there and drove back home.

Sausage & Mash

We had sausage and mash for dinner, which Kim made, with terrific Yorkshire puddings!

We played a bit of Red Dead Redemption 2 and then we watched a film, Shaft, before heading to bed.

Place 72 – Day 187: Vancouver, BC – Housewarming

Early Training

Kim got up early(ish) to head out to pole training.

She enjoyed the session, but it was a little early!

She headed back and when she got back, we planned to go out for breakfast.

Out For Breakfast…Or Not!

We walked up to a place we had been before, called Yolk, but when we got there, it was a 1 hour wait, so we changed our mind and walked home, with a stop at Starbucks so Curtis could try a gingerbread latte (which he liked!) And at the supermarket.

We got home and made some scrambled eggs with ham and cheese and some toast.

Leafs & Winners Shopping

Curtis watched the leafs game and whilst doing this, Kim went up to Winners to find a few things she needed for our kitchen and apartment.

Hockey

Curtis had another hockey game today, at 20:30!

We left at 19:15 to get there at a good time.

Curtis’ hockey game was awful and they lost 4-0!

Housewarming

We were invited to a housewarming party out in New Westminster, but couldn’t go for 19:00 as we had Curtis’ hockey game, so we went after!

We were there from 22:00 something and had a good time. This was for someone that Kim met through pole dancing. It was a nice house, too!

Place 72 – Day 186: Vancouver, BC – Workplace Baby Shower

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a few meetings today.

He had his daily meeting, followed by doing a little bit of admin and work, but then right back into another meeting.

This meeting was very interesting, though, and it was planning for the team’s financial forecast, so it was cool for Curtis to see what went on there.

After that meeting, Curtis got some ticket work done and was then meant to have another meeting, this time an external meeting with a cloud software company.

The representative didn’t show up, so Curtis didn’t have that meeting, but did eventually get his questions answered via email.

For lunch, Curtis and a couple of colleagues went to a place called Hot Star Chicken. This is a Taiwanese street food place where you get a big slab of fried chicken in a paper bag.

Curtis had a BBQ one and Kim had a Korean flavoured chicken.

Kim went back to work and so did Curtis. He put the remainder of the chicken on a plate and ate it that way when he got back to the office and it was much easier to eat.

After lunch, Curtis spent an hour doing some ticket and project work, both were successful, and then he had an hour long meeting with someone from legal.

After that, it was beer and hockey time! Curtis grabbed a beer and watched the first period of the leafs game, before walking home.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim finally saved all of her outstanding travel invoices! She had a full half a months worth and spent most of the morning sorting through those.

She then went and met Curtis and a couple of his work friends for lunch, but on the way back to work stopped to pick up some chocolate bars for the baby shower.

When she got back to the office Kim put all of the regular things in the fridge for the end of week drinks.

She then got on with some administration tasks before starting the fun stuff of baby shower preparations.

Kim printed off the answer sheets for the nappy game, melted the chocolates into the nappies, sorted the snacks and made the mocktails. The mocktails on the menu today were:

  • Mumgo Colada
  • Gran-berry ‘Cider’
  • Up at the Crack of Sunrise

Kim was very pleased with the mockt

ails and names she picked for them. Kim also arranged for rum to go with the mango colada style drink for those that were drinking alcohol.
Once all the games were set up the team allocated 15 minutes to sit, enjoy and catch up together before inviting the rest of the office to join in.

They drank mocktails, played ‘mark the soother on the baby’ and ate cookies.

A few other people joined while the team were guessing what was in the nappies. Then, suddenly, another department joined in with a fondue set!

As it was someone’s birthday the day before they celebrated with fondue, this was a welcomed addition.

Kim decided to pick a winner for the nappy guessing game so ran around the office to see if anyone else wanted to try first, a few more people had a go and then Kim went through the correct answers. It was so much fun and it was great to see everyone relax and enjoy each other company!

Most people left around the same sort of time, so the few who were around at the end cleared up with Kim. She then realised that she had not yet place a weekly shop order for next week, so she put one of those through and then went home.

It was a brilliant evening and a really nice way to celebrate the excitement of a new little baby on its way!

Silly Videos

Once hockey was finished, we each had some food (Curtis had the last of the roast and Kim had the remainder of her chicken from lunch) and sat and watched silly videos.

Before we knew it, it had been a few hours!

It was fun to just sit and watch stupid stuff for a while, though.

Tomorrow’s Saturday, but a busy one!

Place 72 – Day 185: Vancouver, BC – AI Talk @ Microsoft

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a productive day, getting a lot of ticket work done, but also spent a while trying to get an email address setup through a piece of software…which took a while.

When Curtis first got to work, he was told that a TV wouldn’t turn on and sure enough, after he declared it broken, there was a hidden power button to flip!

Just after lunch, Curtis helped a team with a bit of user testing and then got back to doing some work.

For the last part of the work day, Curtis offboarded someone who left today.

At 16:30, Curtis walked to Microsoft with a couple of colleagues for a talk!

Once they got in, they were given visitor lanyards and got some food and drink waiting for the talk to start.

The talk was about the ethics of AI and there was someone that worked in healthcare, head of AI at Microsoft and an Intellectual property lawyer.

The discussion was quite interesting, but not as good as the last one.

Curtis walked home and waited for Kim to get back from her training.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with some holiday party planning, as we are getting closer and closer there will always be something that needs to be done. Today Kim asked the venue for some information for the band aet up and coordinated with the band for their requirements.

Once Kim had worked on the holiday stuff for a few hours she decided to head out to return a flipchart that they bought a few weeks ago as it was missing a piece. Kim went to the staples to return it however the shipment date associated with the online delivery stated it was sent in 1997. This then meant a simple return took about 30ish minutes as the wonderful gentleman behind the counter had to call support. Eventually they got to the end of it and Kim had a good laugh with the guy in the store, he was very helpful too!

Kim came back to both orders of pizzas having been delivered so she put those into the right meeting rooms. She also had a wonderful catch up with they lady who comes in to water the plants. Kim gets on super well with this lady and was away in Vegas for her last visit to the office so it felt like ages since they had a chat!

They decided to arrange to catch up outside of work and have a proper sit down and catch up! Kim is turning into quite the social butterfly these past few weeks, its really lovely!

Someone within the office knows of a new pizza place that recently opened, so they arranged for a free trail to come in to see if the pizza is any good and if it would be a contender for somewhat regular orders.

A few people came in to try the pizza and the general consensus is that it is pretty good!

Kim then did a little planning for this weeks Friday social drinks as it is baby shower theme for one of her colleagues who goes on maternity leave this Friday. Kim drew up a mocktail menu and then went out to pick up some juices. While she was out she picked up the regular alcoholic drinks too!

Kim then focused on the holiday party for a while when she got back. Then Kim made place cards for the mocktails so they were easy to figure out which is which and what they include.

Kim is very excited to put everything together tomorrow.

Kim’s Training

Kims first hour of training was open pole and she really struggled. She thought it was fatigue but found out after the class that the pole was slippery.

Before the next class, Kim claimed a different pole but still struggled with the first move as none of it was anything she has experienced before.

She learnt a new invert, into a new rest position into a new hold position, so it was quite challenging!

The second move was a regular invert into a superwoman to a kind of stand up pose, which was very cool! It was hard to get into but Kim somewhat managed it 3 times, so she left training having achieved something and on a bit of a high.

Late Evening

We were both home later than usual, so didn’t have as much time.

We watched a couple of TV shows and then hit the hay.

Place 72 – Day 184: Vancouver, BC – Back to Pole Training

Curtis’ Day

Curtis actually got to work at the perfect time, but then emptied the dishwasher which took him perfectly to his daily meeting.

After the meeting, Curtis spent all morning doing ticket work and it was perfectly busy!

At 12:00, there was a demo for some antivirus software which was very interesting, so he really enjoyed that.

After lunch, Curtis had to figure out who owned a software as someone was leaving and someone new had to take it over. Once he figured that out, he started the setup for that.

Once he got that done, he had time to look over a few different helpdesk software and compare them to see which is the best and which his company should start using.

Curtis walked home and watched the leafs game.

Kim’s Day

When Kim got in she decided to start getting into the habit of having something to eat before starting to work. She grabbed her cereal and sat down, just after it dawned on her that she has a visitor coming in for someone at 9 so she hid her cereal ans waited to greet the guest. Once the guest was in Kim pipped back to the kitchen to have her cereal.

Kim then spent a while trying to get hold of someone who would be able to send across the missing receipt from a hotel. In total it took over an hour, many calls to different numbers! It was a whole kerfuffle!

She then went into a meeting to have a chat about the upcoming winter party. Kim and her colleagues agreed on decorations and a plan for cracking on with the to do list.

After the meeting Kim sent out a few emails asking a vendor for some information and updated the spreadsheets with new RSVPs.

Just before lunch Kim went out with a friend so that she could grab her colleague a birthday cake and so Kim could grab nappies for a baby shower themed Friday afternoon drinks. Kim will also be making mocktails!

Kim spent some time ordering pizzas and creating templates for possible Congratulations cards for winter party prizes.

Then Kim went into another meeting with one of the ladies from earlier to discuss plans for the social side of the quarterly new hire meetings. They discussed possible dates and games that could work.

Kim then worked through more party stuff by emailing the venue for some info and finally making an RSVP list for the people in the UK office.

Back to Pole

Curtis finished watching hockey and then went up to the shop to get some ham for lunches.

Once Curtis got back, Kim left to go to pole training for the first time since her competition.

Kim loved going back to class today as she learned a crunch spin, which will be great on other combos and a shoulder dismount, which hurt but again is very useful!

Kim went for a swim and to the gym when she got back home. After that, we watched some TV and then went off to bed.
