Place 72 – Day 979: Vancouver, BC – Planned For A Half Day…But No!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis slept a little bit this morning which was really nice. He woke up with quite a bit of pain but that subsided once he took some pills.

Curtis played games all day whilst Kim worked.

We were going to hang out for half of the day, but unfortunately Kim had to work and have meetings all day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a super busy and interesting day! She started with a mini team meeting with her managers to discuss plans for the next couple of weeks. They all then joined a meeting to start discussions about some really important and interesting things.

Kim then hosted a meeting, while setting up a laptop, to brainstorm how a team will work and build up. They then went into a meeting about the responsibilities within the team. Kim continued to set up the laptop and take stock of incoming laptops.

After the meetings Kim then also set up meetings for the new starter finished their laptop and sent it out. She also managed to get through other pop up admin while waiting for the laptop to update. She the. Had to call Lenovo to ask for support, so she did that while getting ready.

Once Kim was at the restaurant she said hello and had a wonderful couple of hours in two places for a couple of drinks with old colleagues.

Evening

When Kim finished with working, she went to meet some friends downtown at a bar/restaurant. Curtis drove her down and she had a really good time! Some people left shortly after she got there as they needed to head out, but some people stayed and Kim really enjoyed that.

Kim got home and we watched some TV and relaxed for the evening and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 958: Vancouver, BC – Work Beach ‘Party’!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis continued doing project work for most of today again, around tickets and one meeting with his team.

A pretty productive day really, which he finished off by doing some Norwegian homework.

Curtis just played games whilst Kim was out in the evening.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim had a beach day at work! To get started for the day Kim did a coffee run and went to her colleagues home to her picked up by their teammate. They all then drove over to the beach and stopped by a shop to pick up some ice.

Once the three of them arrived at the beach they picked a great spot just behind a washed up log to set up the tent and be ready for people to arrive. They had a little while before people arrived and just hung out in the sun and enjoyed doing nothing.

Throughout the day various people came and went, bringing games, families and dogs. It was so wonderful to meet so many people in person for the first time. It was an effortlessly fun day with lots of laughing and fun!

Evening

Once Kim got home, we ordered some southern BBQ food and had a relaxing evening, which was needed after the amount of food we ate!

Place 72 – Day 938: Vancouver, BC – FINALLY, Prawn Crackers!

We woke up a little too late, but we felt great! We had some breakfast and then got ready for the day.

We went out to the CORRECT French café today! We got a double chocolate cake to share and a cappuccino each, all of which were delicious!

We left here and drove to a lake which we thought had a part attached to it, but it didn’t, so we drop up the road a little to an actual park.

The park was more of a dog park and wasn’t actually that good, so we left and drove back towards home instead.

We got back home and relaxed for a bit before we ordered some Chinese food! We have a place opposite us which we don’t believe has been open very long and it sounded like they did good food, so we had to check it out.

The food was a lot like the Chinese food we used to get in England, which is a huge plus for us! They even had the same type of prawn crackers, which we haven’t had for a very long time.

Doesn’t look amazing, but oh it really was!

Once we ate, we went for a nice long evening walk to the beach!

There were a lot of gatherings around, including a band playing to a large crowd, so we made sure to stay away, though it did make a good atmosphere.

The sun was setting so we had some beautiful views and sunlight, which was lovely to see as we were walking.

We watched some TV when we got home and ate ice cream, which we got on the way back home.

Place 72 – Day 300: Vancouver, BC – Carribbean Food

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very quiet day in general.

He did a few tickets in the morning and had a call with someone to help free up some space and then it was lunch time.

After lunch was very quiet, besides having to investigate some phishing emails, which took about an hour but was interesting!

Curtis finished the work day with happy hour where he just had some drinks and chatted with a few people from the office.

Kim’s Day

This mornings first call was great! There were so many people on the call, a couple of people from the west coast too! Earlier in the week, during the quiz game Kim made she asked two questions about scones, the first how to pronounce it and the second was the big question – jam or cream first. The problem was it isnt something that is done in North America so no one really knew how to answer the cream / jam debate. So to settle it Kim did just those two questions to the UK call and it was unanimous for the UK people to pronounce scone NOT like phone and for the Jam to go on first. So that was a good giggle and everyone enjoyed that.

Kim organised some stuff for the cello recital in a few weeks and set up another FedEx pickup.

For the east coast call it was just Kim and someone from the Vancouver office on the call, so they had a good catch up and that was lovely.

In the afternoon Kim made a bunch of signs for in the office and she listened to all the voicemails she had.

To close the day Kim hosted the west coast call, but only one person joined for two minutes before their internet died so Kim called it a day and watched the office instead.

Takeaway Time!

We had a takeaway again tonight, as with every Friday.

We decided on Calabash Bistro which is a Carribbean place.

The food was really delicious! We got Jerk chicken rice with a sweet coleslaw and we got a big chicken curry roti wrap.

After we were in a food coma, we watched some TV and then a stand-up comedy show!

Place 72 – Day 251: Vancouver, BC – Back To Curry Again!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a company wide meeting right at 09:00 which lasted for an hour.

After that, Curtis had some admin work and research work to do, until 12:45 which is when he had his first of 2 laptop checkups to complete.

He did the first laptop checkup and then had another to do right after.

After lunch, Curtis had a project related meeting with his team, whilst doing an offboard, followed by some tickets and a zoom call with someone to help them out.

Curtis attended the office happy hour and then that was his work week done!

Kim’s Day

Kim started the day by hosting the UKs social talks, there were a couple more people than usual, which was great! She then started working on a few documents, working on The Wiki pages and making plans for next week.

Just before midday Kim had everyone who is doing a lightning talk join the meeting early to test their audio and slide shows. Then the talks went ahead, it was great to have so many people in the call ans enjoying something so normal for the company.

Straight after the talks Kim joined the east coast social drinks, but only for a little while as she had another meeting to get to. The meeting after was great! Kim was on a call with a few people and they were orgnaising stuff and making plans for the coming month as it is Mental Health Awareness month. Kim is very excited to be helping with this as its something she holds very close to her heart.

Kim went from that call to the next, a team meeting. It was so nice to hear from everyone, see how they are all doing and see what their plans for work are like for the next week or so.

Kim had a quick break after that call where she worked on another new Wiki page and added notes to all of the new ones she had started over the past few days.

To finish the day Kim joined the Friday drinks for the west coast people. It was so much fun and there were a great bunch of people on the call.

After the call Kim sorted out some scheduling for the Wiki tournament, next week is the final week of round robin games, in May Kim will start to set up the quarter finals!

Back To Curry Again!

We finished work and played a bit of mini sticks as we didn’t get a chance to do so today!

We ordered a curry, which we’ve gone back to after deviating last week, and then we played some Need For Speed whilst we waited for it.

We watched TV for the rest of the night and just chilled out. We barely stopped today!

Place 72 – Day 226: Vancouver, BC – 9 Years Together!

Curtis’ Day

We completed our daily morning walk and then Curtis had breakfast, showered and started work.

He had a meeting with his team to go over some project stuff which lasted 1 hour.

After this, Curtis did some tickets and admin and then some project work.

In the afternoon, Curtis had a quick 15 minute call with the whole company to test if Zoom would handle it fine and then he had lunch with Kim.

Once finishing lunch, Curtis had meetings for 1.5 hours and they were productive project meetings!

After those, Curtis got some tickets done and then the day was over.

It went really quick for Curtis!

Kim’s Day

Kim set up the teams for the online cribbage tournament and worked on getting a game set up. She had to updated the template of the invites too!

She then started looking into the process of scheduling for phone screens for a teammate.

As it had been a while since she had helped with that side of things they set up a call so her teammate could explain everything and show her the changes to the website.

Between setting all that up and the meeting Kim joined in with yoga. It was so much fun and another employee had their whole family join in from the UK! It was great!

After the meeting Kim spent most of the afternoon setting up phone screens. She also reached out to a couple of vendors to discuss plans for the next few weeks and months!

9 Years Together!

We have been together for 9 years today! Crazy!

To celebrate, we ordered some pizza, going old school with what we used to do, which was get pizza and watch some TV, so that’s what we did! But we did do some working out and stretches before hand, so it’s not all that bad!

Place 72 – Day 143: Vancouver, BC – Getting Stuff Done

Getting Stuff Done

We got up and had breakfast.

Once we ate, we spoke with Kim’s family to discuss our holiday with them and then Kim headed out to Richmond to go to a shop and return something.

Unfortunately, when she got there, they didn’t have what she was looking for (to swap the old item with), so she left.

Kim looked around this area for a bit but nothing really interested her, so she went to another place to look around.

Again, nothing was interesting, so after being out for a few hours, she went back home.

Curtis was watching hockey when Kim got back, but there wasn’t much left to watch, so we decided upon dinner!

We went with an Indian takeaway again, which was terrific as ever, which is very dangerous.

We watched a variety of TV shows and YouTube videos, as well as playing some more Crash Bandicoot.
