Place 72 – Day 332: Vancouver, BC – Homemade Mac & Cheese!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got some admin and tickets done in the morning and then there was a company wide meeting with information about the company’s plans, financial information etc which he attended.

At the end of that call, he went to the office as someone was picking something up so he had to get that sorted for them.

Whilst at the office, Curtis took a shock take of the current laptops so the whole team knows what the Vancouver office has.

Curtis headed back home and had lunch when he got back.

Curtis didn’t have too much to do in the afternoon so he did some admin and some training.

Kim’s Day

This morning Kim started her day by researching stuff for events that are coming up and dealt with some other small admin tasks.

Kim the helped IT set up a new computer but before sending it out she compared FedEx to UPS to see how the prices differ and how easy the system is. The price was good so Kim tried UPS. She packaged up all the things and got it ready to go. She had an issue with part of the paperwork so had to redo that.

Just as she finished that Kim joined a call with two teammates to discuss processes that will be going in place over the next few weeks. It was very productive and needed as it was only meant to be 15 minutes, but lasted the full hour.

Before she left Kim set up a few meetings and sent out a few emails.

Homemade Mac & Cheese

Curtis ran out to get some milk and then when Kim got home, she made Mac and cheese! We bought smoked Gouda and some nice cheddar to use and it was excellent!

Kim did some pole dancing at home properly for the first time and loved it! She loves having the ability to do that!

We went out for another evening walk which yielded beautiful photos once again!

We watched some TV and played some games as usual and then went to sleep.

Place 72 – Day 320: Vancouver, BC – Thursday Is A Monday

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started the morning getting some information on how to fix an issue, which he managed to get good information on.

Curtis answered some questions and did some tickets for the rest of the morning.

After lunch, he walked into the office to fix the issue he was researching this morning.

The person had left him the laptop, which of course Curtis sanitised before and after handling. Curtis was able to get this fixed fairly quick, which was good as it was something new, and he then went back home.

Curtis got back home and did some more tickets and then an offboard.

Kim’s Day

Today is the last day to set up the office and Kim has very little to do. She printed and laminated the last few signs before moving on to putting signs on desks and meeting rooms. She did the smaller side of the building, where she put a sticker and tape on the table leg of desks being used, tape on the floor 6 feet from the chair, to show people the closest they can be. She also put the meeting room signs up and a few distancing reminders.

When Kim got into the kitchen she put up the last few signs and organised the leftover drinks for people to pick up off of a table.

Once she finished with the kitchen, Kim put a few signs up in the bathrooms before hosting a game of Skribbl while she had her lunch.

After lunch Kim and her colleague continuted to put signs on desks to show that they are being used and putting the notifications on meeting room doors.

Mid afternoon Kims manager came in to do a little paperwork and have a tour of the office, as it is totally different from when she was last in. She loved how the office looked, which was great!

After the meeting Kim and her colleague finished putting the signs up. Kim realised she forgot to print a couple of signs, so she made those and popped them up.

It doesn’t sound like a busy day, but Kim didn’t stop! It was a great day and the office is now ready to go! Kim is excited to have people back.

Weird Feeling Evening

We both felt weird this evening, and all day really, as it felt like a Sunday yesterday so today felt like a Monday even though it isn’t.

For dinner we had leftover pasta with a side of ceasar salad along with some homemade garlic bread which was the perfect addition!

We watched some during dinner and then we played a few more new games together which was fun but made time go too fast!

Kim had a bath in the evening as she felt like it and then we watched a thing or two after before sleeping.

Place 72 – Day 310: Vancouver, BC – Fixing Telephony

Curtis’ Day

All of Curtis’ morning was helping fix some telephony things.

There were some changes made but the team which broke a few things, so a bunch of Curtis’ team, including him, had to go through and click a few buttons on each user’s profile to fix it. This took all morning but it was good that it got fixed.

Curtis had his weekly team meeting at 13:00 and then ate lunch after.

After lunch, Curtis and to organise tickets for a bunch of computer checkups and then he had to contact each of the people to setup these checkups.

There was also a couple of tickets for Curtis to get to at the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her week at home and caught up on emails. At mid morning she had organised another cello recital and it was amazing. She recorded it and uploaded both recordings to the Wiki.

After that Kim headed into the office and made some more progress on her signs before having a meeting a catch up with her colleague.

After lunch Kim had a meeting with her team which went well. Then her she went out to a few shops with her colleague to sort a few things out.

When she got back to the office Kim worked on the signs a little more and ordered flowers for the cellist from today.

Homemade Curry, Again!

Kim made the marinade for a curry last night, so it was pretty much good to go today, she just had to make the sauce and some coconut rice!

When Kim got home we made that and homemade naan too!

We watched some TV and relaxed for the evening.

We both had a busy day, so were pretty tired!

Place 72 – Day 304: Vancouver, BC – Long Awaited Walk

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a slow day today.

He reviewed some of the security notifications that his team received for a bit and then did some tickets.

Curtis had a meeting to show the final product of something he was working on and that went really well.

He had lunch shortly after that, followed by a meeting to discuss the possibility of using some apps for automating some things, but they weren’t up to scratch.

After that meeting, Curtis spent the rest of the day fighting with some mailboxes that weren’t doing what he wanted them to do.

Kim’s Day

As Kim had to call a company in the UK today she got in a little early to sort that.
After that call Kim had a donut catch up with someone in the UK and it was so lovely, they talked about their families and everything thats going on in the UK at the moment. It was a very easy going call which was brilliant.

After that Kim had a short while to organise a few things around front desk, she out away some of the deliveries that have come in over the last few days and had a general tidy up.

As Kim finished her sales project she had a quick call with the person who tasked it to her to hand it back. It was only a 10 minute call but it went well!

After that call Kim got stuck into organising the office, she set up the kitchen and sorted our the lounge are to be functional spaces. She then worked on drafting up more signs.

After lunch Kim spent the afternoon in a team meeting where they did a walk around of the office and Kim explained the methods to her madness!

Long Awaited Walk

We took the recycling out when Kim got back home and then had pizza for dinner.

After dinner, we had a quick nap as we didn’t sleep well last night, and then we went out for a walk which we haven’t been able to do for a couple of weeks!

We walked down to the seawall and got a great view of Granville Island.

We watched some TV for the rest of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 303: Vancouver, BC – The Outside?!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did a lot of admin and tickets at the start of his day, but then had to pack up and head to the office!

The office is reopening with a lot of rules and restrictions as well as just a small number of people as of this week.

Curtis and his colleagues went in first to do the orientation and assist with some last few things around the office.

Curtis isn’t going back for a couple of weeks but wanted to help out.

It was a little strange for Curtis to be back in the office and everyone has to walk the same direction around the office which means it takes Curtis a long time to get anywhere!

Curtis did some more tickets and then had the orientation, learning what everyone can and cannot do and all the rules.

Curtis then helped fill some bottles with sanitizer, each person gets their own, and then he had a team meeting.

After the team meeting, Curtis cleaned the coffee urns which had coffee in them since everyone left…so you can imagine how disgusting they were!

After cleaning that, Curtis had some lunch and ordered himself something exciting!

After lunch, Curtis helped put up some tape around the office to shut areas. He then went to each desk that will not be occupied and put a ‘do not take’ sticker on each monitor just to make sure they don’t go missing.

Curtis left the office around 16:30 and walked home.

Once Curtis got home, he emptied the dryer and then Kim got back so we went right over to our old apartment.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent most of her day in the office, before she went in she caught up on emails and messages.

Once she was in the office Kim collected a few things that needed to be sent out and got them all set up. She then arranged a FedEx pickup and started to move onto the next FedEx package that needed to be sent out. Kim went to print the documents from the first package and it wouldn’t work, so while she was arranging the second package she called FedEx to send over the paperwork she needed. After and hour and a half of calls, speaking to 3 people she was told they couldn’t help and she would have to start again. So she resubmit the form online and went through the whole process again. She finally had them packaged up and ready to go.

Kim had a quick walkround with a colleague to check what needed to be done in the office and then moved some furniture around.

After lunch Kim set up a game of cribbage, this time its the final! Once of the teams is undefeated so that will be exciting. She then spent the rest of the afternoon making plans for the rest of the week and moving more furniture around.

All The Admin

We met with our old landlord to get our deposit back, but also had a long chat about the state of the world and everything that happening.

After we did that, we went and did the shop. We got a decent amount of stuff and popped to Canadian Tire too.

Today was the first time we had been outside in 2 weeks, so it did actually feel a little strange.

We got home and unpacked the shopping and then had more leftovers for dinner.

After that, we watched some comedy and some other TV and then went to bed.

We were very tired today as we didn’t sleep too great.

Place 72 – Day 282: Vancouver, BC – Water Shutoff

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did not need to get up early today, so that meant a little bit of a lay in!

Curtis had a pretty busy morning, with a few meetings. He had his standard daily team meeting, did some tickets and then had his weekly team meeting after a project meeting.

Curtis then was able to have some lunch, then he did a bit of admin, both for tickets and projects.

Our water Was off for most of the day, but luckily for Curtis he had pre-planned for that so he was able to have coffee! (There was a building wide shutdown of water for maintenance work).

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by catching up on some emails and making a plan for her week. Once she got into work she said hello to the few people who had come in and then joined a team meeting.

After the meeting Kim started to sort some things around the office the first being a box full of high vis jackets. She emptied it and kept a few before organising the rest to go back to the building. Kim was generous with the ines she kept and still had 18 spare jackets!!

She then spent most of the afternoon working on emails and doing some research for a few projects that she is working on. Kim also sent out an invite to a games session later in the week as part of the take a break activities for May.

Kim left work a little early to head to the doctors for a checkup and everything is great! When she then got home Kim reorganised a cribbage game and read a document from the building.

Evening

Kim got back from her appointment and did a little bit of work before making dinner.

Curtis took the recycling down to the recycling room, which was pretty much empty, so that made it easier!

We ate our dinner which was a take on phó and it was very delicious!

We watched some TV and that was that.

Place 72 – Day 276: Vancouver, BC – A Bin, More Storage & A Lamp

Curtis’ Day

Curtis is starting early this week, 1 hour early, so that he can catch up with the time he missed Friday.

It was a slow start, but then Curtis got some tickets and some other things to do throughout the day.

He was able to start and finish one project work, which was a success!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with a donut catch up with a new starter from one of the UK offices. It was great to meet them and have a chat. After the call Kim caught up on some emails and set up a courier to pick something up and deliver it to the office. She then packed up and headed into the office, once her computer had finished an update.

Once she got into the office Kim had a meeting with HR and Marketing to divide up the current stock that we have and make a plan for swag going forward. It was a great meeting and gave Kim a lot of direction for the office clean up. She then went through the stock and starting figuring out where it will all be stored.

Kim then spent some time working on some smaller projects, she tried t order a gift card for someone in the UK again and it still didn’t work. She also started setting up some of the next round of cribbage games.

In the beginning of her afternoon Kim was working with IT finding laptops for people and trying to help set them up, one didn’t want to play ball and Kim couldn’t find the other style of laptop that they needed.

She then sent out more invite for cribbage and then finally started to tackle the tool box. It was full of stuff that Kim didn’t think they needed and there were so many loose screws. So Kim collected up losses screws and organised what was in the box.

A Bin, More Storage & A Lamp

Kim finished work and when she came home she changed her address for her driving license and a few other things.

She then went out to pickup and pay for a new bin, so we have a taller and bigger one.

Kim made some form of Asian style noodles with chicken for dinner which was very tasty!

We watched a bit of TV and then Kim went out again to pickup some more clothing storage for the apartment as well as a lamp!

Once she got back, we finally relaxed for the evening.

Place 72 – Day 272: Vancouver, BC – Handy Man!

Curtis’ Day

As the internet was down, Curtis couldn’t really work.

He did check his emails and messages every so often, but there wasn’t much he could do.

That being said, he had breakfast and then went to take Kim her lunch as she forgot it.

Once he got back, he setup the Xbox and then did some handy work!

He first made it so that the toilet paper doesn’t fall off the holder, he just had to twist it a bit to make it straight.

Once he did that, he wanted to figure out how to fix the toilet seat as it was wobbling quite a bit.

After a bit of googling, he figured it out and fixed it! Pretty successful.

Once that was fixed, he vacuumed and did a clothes wash.

The internet eventually came on at around 12:30, so Curtis was able to work from then!

Speaking of work, Curtis got online right in time for team building in which they played a games called Magicka 2.

Once that was finished, Curtis got a bit more work done and then had Zoom happy hour with people from the office.

Kim’s Day

Kim moved the UKs social catchup a little earlier as there was a company wide meeting over the time it usually ran. So she hosted that and had a great time talking with a couple of people there and then joined the meeting.

After the meeting Kim went to FedEx to pick up a box to mail stuff out. Curtis also met her to drop off her lunch as Kim had forgotten it. When she got back to the office Kim had a call with a couple of friends, she loved it! It was so great to speak with them!

Kim then spent some time trying to get a payment to process, but with no luck. She also updated her mailing log with items that have made it back to the office.

At lunch Kim had a friend stop by and they sat very far apart again. It was great to see her and have a quick chat! Its also just nice to see someone in person!

After lunch Kim hosted the east coast catchup, it was quite short and sweet as only a couple of people joined and they didnt stay for long. Kim gathered the FedEx box she picked up earlier, filled it up and set up a FedEx pickup.

As her 1:1 was interrupted earlier on in the week, Kim had moved it to Friday. They had a good catch up and spoke about the office renovations and clean up along.

Straight after that call Kim joined a call with her teammates to have a chat. It was lovely to see how everyone is doing and have a catchup before the long weekend.

Before the west coast catchup Kim sent out an invite for an event next week and organised her calendar for next week. She then hosted the social call and it was lovely. This was the busiest one of the day and it was great to see everyone.

Homer St Cafe

We we hungry when Kim got home so we got some food! We live right by Homer St Cafe now, so we had to try it out.

Kim had pasta with chicken, mushrooms and vegetables while Curtis had boar & beef pasta. Very delicious.

We ate dinner and then watched a bit of TV. Kim then figured out how she wants the fridge layout to work and then she went out to the drug store to get some things.

Once she got back, she had a nice long bath in our new tub!

We watched some more TV and chilled out for the rest of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 263: Vancouver, BC – Non-Apartment Hunt Evening

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a pretty busy and successful day!

It started with a call with someone who had some questions about email encryption, so Curtis and his colleague jumped into that and got those questions answered and helped with next steps.

Curtis then did a few tickets followed by a plumber showing up to fix a sink plug that wasn’t working.

Right after the plumber, the ‘window guy’ arrived to look at our dodgy window. It seems it actually either needs replacing or he needs to come back and try a few things to it.

Once the window guy left, Curtis had some other tickets to work on and then had some lunch.

Post lunch, Curtis had even more tickets to complete, as well as writing up a communication for the company.

Kim’s Day

Kim was in the office nice and early today to meet the people coming in for the renovations, shortly before they were due to arrive she got a call telling her they will be late. So Kim hopped on the midweek catchup call and had a great time talking with everyone.

After the call Kim played the undefeated champions of the cribbage tournament. At the end of the game they were still undefeated! It was also the last game of the round robin part of the tournament. Kim then worked out the pairing for the next round and updated the spreadsheet.

While Kim was updating the spreadsheet the renovations person turned up and ended up only being able to do one small part of the project as the filler had to dry before the wall can be painted and the TV mounted. So they will arrange for a day next week where two people can come in to finish the project.

For a lot of the morning Kim went through all of the marketing stock and made notes of what there is and in what quantities. It was great to get the area organised and have a better idea of what there is.

In the middle of sorting through the stock Kim had a meeting with a colleague in regards to mail and general plans for the offices.

As a friend of Kim’s works in town, they met up for lunch and sat 2 tables apart in the kitchen. It was so amazing to see her and have a great catchup in a nice and safe environment.

After lunch Kim wrote up her notes from the meeting earlier and made a good plan of what she has to do. She also made a proper log of the marketing stock to send over to the team.

Non-Apartment Hunt Evening!

We didn’t have any apartments to look at today and noone came to look at ours, so it was a fairly standard evening.

We went to the supermarket and there was no line which surprised us.

We did the shop quickly and then came back home to do our workout!

We finished our workout which felt like the first one in a while and then had a quick dinner.

We then relaxed and watched some TV, followed by mini sticks and Need For Speed!

Place 72 – Day 256: Vancouver, BC – Sneaky Office Visit

Curtis’ Day

Curtis for rest and then, with Kim, walked down to the city.

Curtis was the only one in his team with a specific key, so he had to go drop it off.

He got into the office, dropped off the key and left again.

On the way back, walking through the deserted city, which felt very strange, Curtis stopped at Mario’s to get a coffee. It was delicious and Curtis had a good chat with the owner, as well.

Curtis walked back home and went right into the weekly webinar from Zoom in which they discuss new updates and have a Q&A session.

Curtis finished that and then for most of the remainder of the day, he completed the project work he began yesterday!

After doing a couple of tickets, Curtis did some training and then that was his day done.

Kim’s Day

Today was a busy day! The midweek catch up was great, there were more people than normal and it was great to see some newcomers! Kim hopped straight into a cribbage game after the social call and lost the game. It was good fun, but the other team crushed it!

Kim walked with Curtis into work, it was so lovely to have a tiny bit of normality, even if downtown does look like a brightly and beautifully painted apocalyptic movie. All the shops are boarded up, but people are painting on all the boards, its really beautiful!

When Kim got into the office she started by emptying the remaining cupboards on one side of the kitchen. She managed to organise the drinks where they take up only three cupboards and fit all of the drinks that were stored on a flatbed away in the cupboards too!

Kim then helped IT set up a new user on a laptop. She called one of the guys, but his audio wouldn’t work, so Kim asked the questions and he had to type out the answers. It was strange but it worked!

Kim then went back in the kitchen and started collecting all the nicer biodegradable plates and cutlery into one place, rather than being in different parts of the kitchen. She created a catering cupboard and its great!

Kim found another cabinet in the office so she took that to make it a gaming station in the break out area. She also took the new bookshelf in the kitchen for the breakout area too. She managed to position the bookshelf and another larger cupboard in a way that has storage for the trolleys behind them. Its very aesthetically pleasing!

Kim then had a meeting with her colleague, where she went over the plan for the rest of the day and asked her opinion on a few of the office move things.

Kim then moved a desk so she could use the area as storage space. She collected up all the stuff lying around thay belongs to the team and put it in the new space. It now looks much more open where Kim is making the breakout area.

Mid afternoon Kim popped out to pick up some personal pizzas for her colleague and herself. When she got back one of her managers was in the office. It turns out that he was in to pick up the laptop. So Kim finished setting it up and collected a few things to go with it and passed the laptop over. It was great to have a chat and say hello too!

Kim then attempted to DYI make a cable run in the cabinet she stole earlier. Turns out that it is nearly impossible to drill into the material it is with the weak drill Kim bought a few months ago. There is now a fair amount of sawdust and a tiny hole in the cabinet. So that was relatively unsuccessful! After giving up on this Kim moved a few tables from one part of the office to another.

Just before she left Kim cleared up the massive mess she made in the kitchen and one corner of the office. She then called a courier to ask some questions for a colleague and then had to plug in the mail machine in order for her colleague to send some post! It was a very sucessful day!

No Workout Today

We didn’t really feel like working out today, and Kim got home a little later, so we just played mini sticks instead, until we got hungry.

Curtis had meatballs and Kim had chicken sausages for dinner, with a collection of vegetables and a really nice gravy/sauce.

We watched the next episode of Tiger King and some other TV before heading off to sleep.
