Place 72 – Day 1000: Vancouver, BC – Away We Go!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got a bit more sleep this morning and then he jumped on a call with a colleague to figure out some strange permission issues.

There was a team meeting and once that was done, he had some tickets to get done as well as having to call someone and get something fixed for them.

Throughout the day, when he had time, Curtis got the packing done and a few things around the apartment, like taking out the rubbish.

Kim’s Day

Kim left early-ish and took laptops over to the office she was working from during the day.

After that, she went and got some breakfast and even took Curtis a croissant and coffee!

She got some of the laptops sorted today and it was nice to be in an office with colleagues.

Kim left the office around 13:00 and went bowling! She organised this with people from her company and a fun company event!

After bowling, Kim headed back home.

Away We Go!

Off to the island we go!

After work, we drove out to the ferry terminal and took the ferry over to Vancouver Island! We have a fun 10 days planned and we’ll be visiting Kim’s great auntie Linda for the first time in quite a while.

We got some easy food on the ferry and then drove out to Port Alberni! We’ll arrive there super late, but then we’ll be up early tomorrow to do some exploring!

We’re super happy to have some time to travel around and see things, whilst being careful, of course.

Today is also DAY 1000 in Vancouver! Crazy.

Place 72 – Day 997: Vancouver, BC – Nearly Done!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went right to the office this morning. He had to get a laptop setup and sent out for someone.

Whilst he was doing this, another laptop arrived that he was waiting on, so he got that setup too.

Whilst he was there, he got a lot more of the remaining office tasks sorted out. He needed to add more monitor arms to some desks as well as order more monitors and cables ready for everyone to return to the office.

There was a pile of e-waste for Curtis to go through and take down the asset numbers to mark those as ‘disposed of’ so the records are correct.

He helped out some people in the office with moving some things and he also got some tickets done, as well as answering some messages from people.

The second laptop Curtis setup was being a pain, so he had to start again at 15:30! He managed to get it done before he finished for the day, though.

Curtis walked home and picked up coffee for him and Kim as Kim needed to work late tonight.

Kim’s Day

Kim mostly just had meetings today! She started with an interview and then went right into a 1-1 with her teammate to check in about projects.

Kim then gave her weekly update and the company wide meeting before joining a quick call to discuss the interview earlier in the day.

Towards the middle of the day Kim had a chat with her other teammate to help them build some templates, structure and a plan around social media and recruitment.

In the afternoon Kim had a couple of recruitment meetings. The first was to discuss the new plans for processes and the second and third were weekly team check ins to discuss the open roles.

To finish the day Kim joined another interview and had a quick chat after. She then spent the evening getting through some admin work. It was great to really sit down and get stuff done!

Evening

Kim worked for the evening, so Curtis played games for most of the evening, along with getting some other things around the apartment done.

Kim took a little break and we had some gnocchi and a tomato sauce for dinner. We watched a bit of TV before Kim went back to working for the rest of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 992: Vancouver, BC – More Office Setup & Meteor Shower!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis walked down to the office in the morning and got right into more office setup.

He and his colleague got all desks setup with montor arms (other than the ones that couldn’t be done as there were none left). Also, about 95% of desks now have monitors, other than the few that don’t due to running out of them.

Curtis spent most of the day doing this, as well as figuring out a few things he needed to figure out with his colleague about how desks will be setup. They got some permanent desks setup for people coming to the office full time, and then he sorted out some cables again and figured out which to keep and which to throw away.

Curtis walked back home in time to walk to get the car with Kim.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a really nice day today. It started with a 1-1 with a new employee and then a really interesting and useful chat with her manager and someone from the recruitment firm they work with. They caught each other up on work and bounced ideas off each other, it was great!

She then joined the weekly department check in and then finished a laptop at the same time. Then it was time for the regular weekly recruitment meeting. Kim also stole some time towards the end to discuss another role once everyone else has left.

In the afternoon Kim had a 1-1 with a manager to discuss a few of their new starters and how they are doing. Then she tried sorting out some charges from Apple, but had no luck!

She finished her day with a call with a teammate to see how they are doing.

Once she got back Kim managed to get a few quick wins done by sending emails and sending out an updated party invite. She then dropped some letters off to her colleague and stayed to play with the kittens.

Evening

We walked down to the garage to get the car, getting a coffee on the way, and once we picked that up we headed to the store to get something for dinner.

We got home and Kim did a little bit of work before going out to see a friend for a little bit.

We went to the gym at 21:00 for an hour which felt really good, and then when we got back up to the apartment, we had chicken ceasar salad for dinner and then we hung out and watched a bit of TV.

Kim went out at 23:00 to see her friend and drove out to a beach to look at the meteor shower that was happening today! She even managed to see a couple!

Kim headed home around 1:15am and then we went right to bed, after a little McDonald’s!

place 72 – Day 990: Vancouver, BC – Staying Away For Work!

Curtis’ Day/Night

Curtis had the croissant that Kim got him for breakfast and then he got himself ready and walked to the office.

He needed to get a couple of laptops setup and sent out, so he did that for the morning and then in the afternoon he did some office cleanup, which he is doing today and on Thursday.

He got a lot of things tidied but him and his colleague also added monitor arms and monitors to a lot of desks which took a few hours but a good chunk got completed!

More of that to do Thursday, as well as a few other things.

Curtis headed home and was alone all evening. It was a little weird!

Curtis mostly played games for the evening, but watched a few YouTube videos, too. He had some steak for dinner which was MASSIVE but really good.

Kim’s Day/Night

Kim went to get croissants for breakfast and then she left to drive down to drop off the car at the garage for a service.

Kim then got an Uber and was dropped off in town and she popped into a coffee shop and met her managers there! They got a few things sorted from there before heading to the hotel to get the day properly started.

They all then spent the day whiteboarding, making plans and talking a lot of things out. There were a couple of meetings that everyone joined. Kim gave the update in the weekly company meeting and then in the early afternoon Kim joined two recruitment calls.

In the evening they went out to a local restaurant for dinner. It was such a fun and interesting day, but there isn’t a whole much to share, we did a lot of talking, planning and whiteboarding!

Place 72 – Day 989: Vancouver, BC – Leftover Curry

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting right away in the morning, a new hire’s orientation. They were a really nice person so that was good!

After that, it was all tickets for the day. He had a couple of meetings with people to help them with things and he had to do some admin and organisation.

Curtis is going to be at the office all day tomorrow.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a no meeting start to her day so she was able to use the time to work through some smaller quick wins, which was awesome! She then had a call with her manager to plan the week before joining a call with a colleague to see how they are doing.

Kim then had two 1-1s to see how a couple of new starters have been settling in and how everything is going. She then had a team meeting before having a team training session and finishing the day with more 1-1s with new employees and managers.

Evening

Kim got home from pole and we had some leftover curry from last night, which was still incredible!

We watched some TV and relaxed, but Kim did have to do a little more work, too.

Place 72 – Day 985: Vancouver, BC – ‘Return To Office’ Planning Again

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a slightly less busy day today, though still busy enough!

He did some tickets and then did an onboard for a contractor which seemed to take a while to do.

Curtis then had a quick meeting about return to office things and a further discussion came from that.

The rest of the day was tickets and also Curtis changed someone’s name on all systems, which took some time but had no issues, which was excellent news.

Kim’s Day

Kim had another interview heavy day, she started with an interview then joined a biweekly meeting to discuss projects and other really interesting things. Kim took a quick call to help someone with an IT issue and then had a 15 min sit down with the other people in the interview to have a chat.

It was then time for interview number 2! She had another chat with a candidate and then ended up being late to the weekly department meeting. She gave her update and listened into what the other departments are doing. She then joined a recruitment meeting to discuss the status of a bunch of live roles.

In the afternoon Kim had interview 3 and 4 and their reviews before having a chat with a couple of the executive team to discuss how their interview went. Then to finish the day Kim joined another recruitment meeting to discuss next steps for a role and review the candidates

Evening

Curtis had some pasta for dinner and when Kim got home, we had a bit of time together and watched some TV. Yesterday, Kim ended up working quite a bit in the evening, so it was nice to get some relaxing time together.

Place 72 – Day 977: Vancouver, BC – Team Laptop Setups

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting at 09:30. This was a company wide meeting which was very informative!

After that meeting, Curtis had a team meeting followed by a 1 on 1 with his boss.

Right after that, there was a meeting about a project. Curtis then got hungry so had some lunch.

There was another 2 team meetings and then he had an external meeting for another project.

The whole day was basically meetings, but he got a few contractor onboards completed and finished the day by creating a guide for something.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a low meeting day planned as she went into the office to train a colleague on laptop set up. Her colleague said she would pop by between 8-8:30 so Kim was up and ready to go, as a result she was able to get some admin done before being picked up. Curtis helped her load up the car with all the laptops that need to be set up.

Once Kim and her colleague arrived at the office they dropped off the laptops and then made an important trip out for coffee! When they got back to the office Kim walked her teammate through the laptop set up process.

The plan was to not have meetings or to have a meeting light day to be able to support on the training of laptop set ups. This did not happen, unfortunately! Her first meeting was with a consultancy firm and she had a quick chat after to discuss the meeting internally. Kim then joined a 2nd round interview with a candidate to have another chat with them and dive more into their experience and interests in the role.

Kim then had a quick break where she and her teammate went to pick up lunch. Before they ate Kim had a quick connect with someone to help them plan their meeting. She then sat down and ate her lunch with her teammate before checking the laptops and closing down the office so her colleague could get home before she it crazy traffic.

Once Kim was home she joined an interview review meeting to discuss a candidate and next steps for the role. To finish the day Kim had a meeting with a department about processes and next steps in a few hiring pipelines. She then had a really long call with her manager to exchange information of the day and catch each other up on things and make decisions and plans for the next few weeks and projects.

Evening

after Kim finished her meetings we had some dinner. Kim had leftover lunch so she had that and Curtis had some soup.

We watched some TV together and then headed to bed. Curtis is at the office for the morning tomorrow.

Place 72 – Day 970: Vancouver, BC – Rushed Equipment Shipping

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went to the office in the morning once he was ready as he needed to do a rushed equipment setup and shipping, so that it arrives this week.

Curtis got that done in the morning and helped a little around the office with a few of the upgrades that are being done there.

He walked home around 12:00 and picked up a coffee for us both. Once he got home, he was nice and busy answering questions and doing some tickets. This was what he did really for the rest of the day, with one meeting sprinkled in there.

After finishing work, Curtis played some games and then went to pickup some laptops with Kim.

Kim’s Day

Kim had three interviews today! She started her day with the first and had a quick review after before joining a check in with an employee finishing their first three months. Her second interview happened before the end of the morning and then she joined a call with a couple of her teammates to discuss the candidates and next steps.

Kim had a meeting with her other teammate to review an ordering process and align everything. She then had a meeting with a colleague to discuss the next few months and do some planning.

Before her final interview Kim had a great training session and discussion. It was so useful and interesting! She finished the day with an interview and a quick review.

Kim was super lucky that Curtis helped with the laptops! She joined a meeting when she got home and joined a really long, interesting and problem solving call with two wonderful colleagues!

Evening

Tonight is the last night for solid food for Curtis for a while! Due to this, we ordered some take out, so at least it’s a nice meal!

We are our food and relaxed. Curtis cannot eat or drink after 12:00, so he ensured he got enough water in him!

Tomorrow is surgery day… Curtis is incredibly nervous and he has to get an IV, which doesn’t work great with his fear of injections!

We’re sure all will go well.

Place 72 – Day 969: Vancouver, BC – In Person Colleagues!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis woke up with no plan to go to the office until later, but he has some colleagues who are in the Vancouver office from the Winnipeg office, so he went in to see them and help them out with some stuff.

Curtis got there and then started setting up a laptop he needed to setup and he helped out his colleagues with the things they were doing, and he did a lot of tickets, too.

Once he did the tickets, he helped a colleague with some account set ups, and then he finished up the laptop setup.

When the setup was done, he did more tickets and had a quick meeting to discuss a software integration.

The late afternoon was taken up by getting a laptop of an old employee setup for someone to login to and then he started setting up another laptop for someone, which he needs to finish tomorrow.

After finishing work, Curtis went to pick up a package and then walked home.

Once he got home, Curtis played some games whilst Kim went out to an appointment.

Kim’s Day

Kim had another really interesting day! She started by turning up to a meeting with the executive team, so that was better than yesterday! They reviewed a few job descriptions and sorted a couple of other things out.

Kim then had a couple of 1-1s. Her first was to discuss a new hire and how things are going and the second was with her teammate to discuss projects and next steps. She then provided the weekly update to the company before joining a call with another teammate to update a few accounts and get some IT stuff done.

Kim then had a meeting to discuss a couple of processes and then she joined another meeting to give a quick update and get approval on a couple of things. After those Kim joined a meeting about non development hiring and the next steps there before joining an interview. After the interview Kim had a review and a quick mini team meeting for most of the afternoon. It was great!

Evening

After Kim got home from her appointment, we had homemade chicken burgers for dinner and relaxed for the evening. Just a couple of days now until Curtis gets his surgery!

Place 72 – Day 962: Vancouver, BC – People In The Office?!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had some tickets and other things to get done in the morning and then he had his Norwegian lesson which went really well.

After that, Curtis walked to the office and once he got there, he had to setup a laptop for someone in Denver.

There were quite a few people in the office to pickup things from their desks. It was a little weird being around so many people!

He setup the laptop and then sent it out to Denver, which he and to figure out!

Curtis then had to check some stock and see what he had there and then he walked back home.

It was fairly late in the day, but Curtis had lunch and then had to catch up with tickets and a few other things.

Curtis then played games for the evening whilst Kim was at pole.

Kim’s Day

To start the day Kim had a call with a colleague so they could rearrange a couple of reccuring meetings so that everyone can attend and it doesn’t cause complications for people. She then was able to focus on some admin. The first task was to call a courier service to find out where a delivered package is as Kim never received it. She also had to make a purchase and sent out some packages via a different courier service.

In the weekly company meeting Kim have everyone the update and joined in in singing happy birthday to someone. It’s such a great call to be involved with every week.

Kim then hosted a mini team meeting to discuss all of the hiring for the company and the approach to take for the next few months. She then joined the finance meeting to give an update, then Kim had some lunch before joining a weekly update call about new roles.

In the early afternoon Kim had a couple of team meetings. The first was to look at a Notion page her teammate had put together and it was absolutely beautiful. They also took some time to work out a few other things and it was great. They all stayed on a call to do a recap of candidates who applied to join the team too! It was wonderful as there are a couple of candidates who look fantastic.

A few people from the team then joined a biweekly meeting with a department head to discuss their hiring and the career progression within the teams. To finish the day Kim joined a planning meeting with her managers. It was such a great call and it was wonderful to get aligned and a better understanding of a few things.

Evening

Once Kim got back home, we had some dinner and relaxed.
