Place 70 – Day 34: Victoria, BC – Hot Stone Massage & Mattick’s Farm

Hot Stone Massage

We woke up after sleeping very early last night and felt very well rested.

We had some cereal for breakfast and Kim then went out for a hot stone massage! She really enjoyed it, actually. She felt like jelly!

Mattick’s Farm

Kim got back and we went out to Mattick’s Farm.

This was only about 20 minutes away and once we got there, it was coffee time!

They had a restaurant and tea room, so we went to the tea room and got ourselves coffee and snacks. Curtis got a cinnamon bun and Kim had a tuna and mayonnaise sandwich.

We left here and went to play mini golf! They had a mini golf place at the farm, so we took Linda to play her first round ever!

The game was pretty close, actually, with Curtis coming out with the win in the end.

We really enjoyed that, actually, and it wasn’t really in the sun either, which was good for us.

We drove back toward Victoria and on the way, we stopped at a supermarket which is known for really cheap fresh fruit and vegetables, so we got in there and got some produce there.

Delicious Dinner

We got back home and relaxed for an hour or so and then we went to a restaurant that Linda has been visiting for a long while.

Curtis and Linda shared a ceasar salad and Kim had a French onion soup, which was her first time trying! She really enjoyed it actually, though it was a lot for her!

Curtis had a steak which came with potatoes and veg and Kim had chicken marsala with mushrooms and veg, too.

We really enjoyed our dinner and were perfectly full.

We headed back home and had some strawberries which Linda bought at the veg store today.

Drinks With Another Friend

We went for drinks with a friend of Kim’s from work just down at the brown’s social house in Victoria.

Curtis hadn’t met her before and Kim hadn’t met her in person but we had a good chat and a drink before heading back home to Linda’s.

We’re heading out again tomorrow, so that should be fun!

Curtis’ Day/Night

Curtis had the croissant that Kim got him for breakfast and then he got himself ready and walked to the office.

He needed to get a couple of laptops setup and sent out, so he did that for the morning and then in the afternoon he did some office cleanup, which he is doing today and on Thursday.

He got a lot of things tidied but him and his colleague also added monitor arms and monitors to a lot of desks which took a few hours but a good chunk got completed!

More of that to do Thursday, as well as a few other things.

Curtis headed home and was alone all evening. It was a little weird!

Curtis mostly played games for the evening, but watched a few YouTube videos, too. He had some steak for dinner which was MASSIVE but really good.

Kim’s Day/Night

Kim went to get croissants for breakfast and then she left to drive down to drop off the car at the garage for a service.

Kim then got an Uber and was dropped off in town and she popped into a coffee shop and met her managers there! They got a few things sorted from there before heading to the hotel to get the day properly started.

They all then spent the day whiteboarding, making plans and talking a lot of things out. There were a couple of meetings that everyone joined. Kim gave the update in the weekly company meeting and then in the early afternoon Kim joined two recruitment calls.

In the evening they went out to a local restaurant for dinner. It was such a fun and interesting day, but there isn’t a whole much to share, we did a lot of talking, planning and whiteboarding!

Place 72 – Day 983: Vancouver, BC – Heavy Week Start

Curtis’s Day

Curtis had a 09:00 onboard orientation with someone and right after that it was go-go-go all day!

Curtis had a few more meetings through the day and then a lot of the day was dealing with tickets and messages.

Not much of interest in terms of a blog write-up, but it was certainly a busy day!

Kim’s Day

Kim had a really interesting and busy day today! She started with an interview and then a review before having a 1-1 with her teammate. She then gave an update in the weekly meeting before joining a recruitment call to figure out how we want to build a team.

Kim then had another interview and review before she joined the weekly finance meeting. After lunch Kim joined two recruitment meetings. In one she got updates on the progress of roles and in the other she spoke with the team about the roles they might need.

To finish out the main part of the day Kim joined a third and final interview. She had a little break before joining a meeting just after usual work hours to finalise the exec RACI with the team. It was great to see it finished an ready to help us find the perfect people for their roles over the next few weeks!

Evening

Whilst Kim was out at pole dancing, Curtis made himself steak and a salad for dinner. He was really looking forward to having steak since he can eat proper food now!

Kim got back home and had some food and then we watched some TV before sleeping.

Place 72 – Day 961: Vancouver, BC – New Glasses!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a quick onboard orientation in the morning and then joined his team to use a new software for 2 weeks!

Curtis had to setup accounts for another new hire and then he got right into a team meeting followed by some project work, which lasted really for most of the day.

After work, Curtis got the remainder of his Norwegian homework completed and thrn played some games whilst waiting for Kim to finish up work.

Curtis’ new glasses arrived today, so he can actually see well again!

Kim’s Day

Kim went to start her day with a meeting just as it got moved. So she was able to get some admin done. She then joined a meeting about a research project that will start over the next week or so.

Around mid morning Kim joined the recruitment meeting that was pushed from earlier in the morning. It was interesting and involved lots of interesting discussions. She then joined three different one week check ins before also having a one month chat. Kim really enjoys interacting with new employees and seeing how things are going.

In the afternoon Kim joined a team meeting before having a quick break for lunch. She then joined another recruitment meeting for a department to see the new roles they may want to hire for over the next 12 months.

Kim then had a a while to get a bit of admin done before she had a chat with a few people about another new role and how one team is likely to look and be shaped over the coming months.

In the evening Kim worked on setting up some laptops. Two worked fine and the final one has been a nightmare. Kim has totally set it up yet it still isn’t working as expected. The plan is currently to leave it overnight and try again in the morning. If that doesn’t work she will have to factory reset and start the whole process again!

Evening

We had a delicious dinner! Kim had a mushroom sandwich with caramelised onions and relish whilst Curtis made a steak sandwich with caramelised onions and relish. Delicious! We were still a little hungry after though, so we had some salad.

Kim finished up a bit more work and then we went out for a night walk.

Place 72 – Day 278: Vancouver, BC – Sandwiches & Midweek Admin

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started the day with a long company wide meeting and then a shorter team meeting, which meant most of the morning went pretty fast!

Curtis did some tickets and then it was already lunch time!

Curtis did a few more tickets and a bit of admin and then it was almost time to wrap up for the day, which was crazy!

Kim’s Day

Kim joined a call that she is helping with in the background. At the end of the call there was a quiz so Kim made note who got which questions right.

Kim went straight into the office after the call and organised everything from after the call. She uploaded the recording of the call and awarded points to those who got the quiz questions right.

Just before yoga Kim found a guided meditation video that they played before doing a shorter yoga video. She then spent some time reorganising the invites to recurring meetings, she reduced yoga down to once a week and to be on a Tuesday and she updated the invite for the lightning talks.

Kim then took some time to shop for things that they need around the office. She also set up an order on Staples.

She finished the day by following up on emails and finishing the toolbox clean up. She now has a lot of stuff to bin or recycle!

Sandwiches

For dinner, we had sandwiches. Curtis had a steak and mushroom sandwich, in which he cooked the steak perfectly, and Kim had a mushroom and cheese sandwich.

We then tried to get Kim’s address updated on a few things.

We then watched some TV to wrap up the evening.

Place 72 – Day 172: Vancouver, BC – Optometrist, Bakery & Sandwiches!

Optometrist

We were up a decent time so we could get ready to head into the city.

Curtis had an optometry appointment, so we had to get down there for 12:50.

We had muffins with egg and cheese for breakfast and then got ready!

We got there and were a little early so Kim booked an appointment for herself and Curtis checked in and then we had a look around at some glasses frames.

Curtis went in for his appointment and it was actually pretty quick.

Curtis got his pupils dilated. It was horrible…! Firstly, it stung a lot, and then Curtis couldn’t see anything close up and it was pretty strange.

Curtis has to get some slightly stronger glasses and contact lenses. He went with a different brand for the lenses after giving them a try.

Curtis then, with Kim, tried a few different frames and finally found a pair! They’re a little different style to what he usually wears, but he really likes them.

Bakery

After this, we went to a bakery called Breka.

Kim had a chocolate mouse cake thing and Curtis and a lemon crumble slice which was tasty!

Curtis had a cappuccino which was ‘eh’ and Kim had a salted caramel mocha which she liked.

We walked to Urban Fare from here to get a few things for dinner tonight and for lunch for the week.

Costco

We stopped in at Costco on the walk home to get some chicken and cheese, as well as a couple of other things.

We walked back home and relaxed for a second, before Kim had to go up to the shop to get some things, too.

Sandwiches!

We each had a great sandwich for dinner! Kim had a two cheese sandwich with brie and cheddar and Curtis had a steak sandwich!

Each sandwich had mushrooms, onions, cheese an balsamic vinaigrette.

We ate these and has some wine and then watched some TV for the rest of the night, whilst also getting ready for work tomorrow.

Place 70 – Day 27: Victoria,BC – Surprise Birthday Breakfast!

Surprise Birthday Breakfast

We were up nice and early at 08:00 to get ourselves ready. We were having breakfast at the hotel next door with one of Linda’s friends, who arrived to the apartment around 09:00.

We walked across to the hotel and when we got there, all of Linda’s friends were there as a surprise! We knew about this, but Linda did not so it was a good surprise.

We had some big, delicious breakfasts and chatted for a long while.

We eventually walked back home and relaxed for a bit.

Coffee & Shopping

We got out of the house by getting a coffee and doing some shopping.

We stopped in at a really nice coffee shop we had been to before and people watched for a while whilst drinking some great coffee.

We went for a bit of shopping, nothing crazy but mostly just looking around. Nice to get out for a bit.

Handy People

We got back and had a couple of hours to kill.

We relaxed and then helped Linda with a couple of things.

We put up some curtains, which was pretty simple, but then we moved onto the next task which was to change a bulb, which was simple enough.

Shortly after this, we went back out again, this time down to the Steamship to get some dinner.

SteamShip Dinner

We have been here a few times, so Curtis wanted to try something else. He had the garlic mussels along with some bread and fries. They were pretty delicious, though needed more broth.

Kim and Linda both had a filet steak, which were also great.

We topped it off with dessert, Curtis and Linda having a key lime pie each and Kim had a chocolate torte.

Street Performer

We went to see if there were any street performers and there was someone that we had all seen before (who had been doing it for 25 years!).

We stayed and watched it all anyway as it was good fun and something to see and do after dinner.

Kim was saying how she was never chosen for helping at street shows, but she got thrown a hat to collect money around where we were stood, so she was over the moon that she got to help out.

Old Photos

We finished with the show and came back home to relax.

Kim looked through some photo albums of Kim and her family, as well as Linda and other photos. She had a great time doing this!

We sat and got a great view of the sun setting, which was great to see.

Place 72 – Day 66: Vancouver, BC – Housework Mondays!

Curtis’ Day

The weather was perfect for walking to work today.

Curtis got to work, grabbed a coffee and got right to work. He had a few things planned to do from last week, so he did those and he also had a couple of messages from different people with either follow up questions or new questions he had to answer.

Some new tickets came in and Curtis sorted those out.

A delivery of cans of drink came in and Curtis just so happened to be getting coffee at the same time, so he put them away to help out.

After lunch, Curtis continued with some work and was quite busy. He had to order a new Macbook for someone and then it was already 15:00!

Curtis had a bit more to do, namely trying to resolve the wifi issues happening in the office in Charlotte.

It slowed down around 15:45 and Curtis did some project work to pass the time.

Kim’s Day

Kim got in and started on catching up on emails and just generally starting her week.

A little bit into the morning Kim decided to put a few orders in for some things like cutlery and printer stuff.

Kim then sat down with a colleague and organised some interviews and run through that process. It was good to have the refresher.

After scheduling the interviews Kim decided today was the day to clear our her desk, clean it and reorganise the whole thing! She emptied the top 2 draws and pulled everything off the desk. Then she went through everything, binned all the old things and things she didn’t need. She also put loads of stuff back in the stationary cupboards.

While Kim was doing this, the pizza arrived for a meeting so kim set that up and then set up for her other catering that was due to arrive around the same time. The meeting was being held on a differnt floor so Kim was asked to bring up some drinks. Midday rolls around and the food hadnt yet arrived, but sometimes people can be a few minutes late do Kim kept organising things but by 5 past she had to call as she was being chased by people who want their lunch. She called and was informed that the lunch would be another 25 minutes from then, making it roughly 40 minutes late. Kim kept herself busy but near the desk and once the food arrived she took it upstairs.

Kim then went on her lunch and when she got back from her lunch she started clearing out the stationary cupboard. It as super organised already, but reorganising gives Kim a good understanding of what should usually be in there and what needs to be ordered now.

Kim then started to draft up a stationary order alongside little random tasks.

Housework Monday

We got home and had some housework to do.

Curtis started by taking out the recycling and the organic waste. When he got back, we both decided we were hungry so we waited on the housework and made dinner.

We had a steak & sweet potato salad, which was pretty tasty but the steak wasn’t good quality.

After finishing dinner, we did the rest of the housework such as cleaning the kitchen and vaccuuming.

We played some games, watched some YouTube videos and some TV before hitting the hay.

Place 72 – Day 51: Vancouver, BC – The Richmond Centre Shopping

Shoe Return & More Shopping

We wanted to go and do something fun today, but the weather wasn’t going to be too good, so we thought we would get some things sorted that we needed to do.

We decided we would go to a shoe warehouse to get new shoes as Curtis’new Vans are not very comfortable, so he wanted to take them back and get some others.

We took the Canada Line train from our home all the way to Richmond.

We first went right to the shoe warehouse and Curtis very quickly found some perfect shoes at a great price! Kim also managed to find some really good flip flops, so we achieved!

We then headed to the Richmond Centre where we returned Curtis’ Vans and then went to a few shops and both bought some clothes we needed.

Steak

We came home, dropped off everything we bought and then went up to Whole Foods to get some nice steak.

We got what we needed and came home to make it.

Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out to be a nice piece of steak, but it was still pretty good!

We ate our steak and then our landlord came to see of he could setup our intercom, but that didn’t work unfortunately.

We watched some lucifer with some lemon pie for our evening!

Place 72 – Day 30: Vancouver,BC – Move In Completed!

Table & Chairs

We just had the table and chairs to build today, so after we got ready, Kim got onto that.

Whilst Kim did that, Curtis collated all of the rubbish into the required piles and then took out the paper pile and put it out in the bin.

Once Kim finished the table and one chair, we ate our leftover Chinese food from last night for lunch.

Internet Install

We should have been getting a technician from Shaw cable coming to install internet into the apartment, but we got a call during lunch saying that they would not be able to come today, so it has to be rescheduled.

As we are both new at work, we said we cannot do during the week but settled on tomorrow at between 18:00-20:00, which means Curtis will sort that out after work!

We finished our food and went out to the shops to get some more things. We got a recycling bin, some more cleaning supplies and a very nice cordless vacuum, which Kim is in love with!

We got a coffee from Starbucks whilst we were out, but Curtis had to wait for over 20 minutes for his as they forgot about him!

Last Chair!

We got the remaining chair built whilst the maintainance people for our apartment building installed blinds in our apartment.

We finished that and then everything was built!

First Food Shop

We got our first food shop done, getting a lot of spices and meat as well as sauces.

We bought a lot but it wasn’t too expensive.

Final Touches & Steak!

We got everything in the kitchen cleaned and put away in the correct place as well as figured out locations for everything else.

We vacuumed and got the place looking good! We then moved the sofa and TV to get them both in the perfect place.

We had already taken all the rubbish out and some things to our storage unit, so we were all ready and it was looking and feeling more like a home.

We had steak for dinner, but unfortunately it wasn’t a very good steak. We had great sides with it though and Kim made an incredible sauce, so it was pretty good. It was our first meal at our new table!

Hopefully Shaw come to install our internet tomorrow and then we are sorted. Kim starts work tomorrow too, and we plan to walk to work together!
