Place 72 – Day 958: Vancouver, BC – Work Beach ‘Party’!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis continued doing project work for most of today again, around tickets and one meeting with his team.

A pretty productive day really, which he finished off by doing some Norwegian homework.

Curtis just played games whilst Kim was out in the evening.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim had a beach day at work! To get started for the day Kim did a coffee run and went to her colleagues home to her picked up by their teammate. They all then drove over to the beach and stopped by a shop to pick up some ice.

Once the three of them arrived at the beach they picked a great spot just behind a washed up log to set up the tent and be ready for people to arrive. They had a little while before people arrived and just hung out in the sun and enjoyed doing nothing.

Throughout the day various people came and went, bringing games, families and dogs. It was so wonderful to meet so many people in person for the first time. It was an effortlessly fun day with lots of laughing and fun!

Evening

Once Kim got home, we ordered some southern BBQ food and had a relaxing evening, which was needed after the amount of food we ate!

Curtis’ day was mostly getting tickets done as well as ordering some equipment for the office and also some licenses.

He did have one meeting in the afternoon which was nice and quick and then continued with some admin and tickets.

Kim’s Day

Kim got her official promotion to Operations Manager today!

After completing some admin in the morning Kim joined a meeting to discuss candidates who have applied for jobs. She then joined an interview and then had a catch up with the recruitment team she works with before joining the weekly recruitment meeting.

In the afternoon Kim joined another interview and then had a meeting to discuss the candidates and next steps with a few positions and candidates.

She then had a quick call with her family and it was so nice to say hello and catch up!

For the rest of the evening Kim worked through some paperwork and finalised a few things before hosting another games night. It was so much fun and everyone really managed to laugh and just enjoy the evening!

Evening

After Kim had her fun evening, she made egg fried rice and we ate that whilst relaxing for the remainder of the night.

Place 72 – Day 576: Vancouver, BC – Important Cocktail Company Party!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had some tickets to get some in the morning and then he had back to back meetings.

The first meeting was with his team, just a standard team meeting, followed by a requirements gathering meeting which was really great! The person that Curtis had to get requirements from was very forthcoming and understanding. It was a really good chat with them with some action points coming out of it for Curtis’ team.

Curtis then had more tickets and people messaging him before he walked down to Tacofino to grab us some lunch.

We ate lunch and then Curtis had a pretty quiet rest of the day, just getting some admin and other work done.

Curtis then watched hockey in the evening whilst Kim had her party.

Kim’s Day

In the morning Kim had planned to get a few things done, but today she spent so much of the day responding to emails and other messages.

In the middle of the day Kim joined a few meetings. The first was a really interesting meeting in regards to next steps on a few projects. The second was a catch up with a new starter who joined at the beginning of the week to see how things are going and just generally chat! It was such a nice call! She then joined a call with her manager to go over a few things for the next few weeks.

While Curtis was getting lunch Kim was able to send out a communication and order all the gift cards for the party! She then had a quick call with someone in regards to recruitment and long term plans.

They both then left the call to join the party Kim had been planning! It went so well! Kim had no agenda, she just wanted to create a space where people could hang out, drink cocktails, chat and have fun. So they did just that! Everyone just talked for a while and hung out before making cocktails and then watching a few demos from one of the teams. After all that the people who were still on the call played some games and it was wonderful!

Evening

We actually had a bit of a lay down and we were tired.

Once we did that, we still weren’t that hungry and didn’t know what we wanted for dinner, so we didn’t bother with ordering takeout today, instead we just had some stuff we had in the freezer and some leftover pizza.

We started Season 3 of F1: Drive To Survive which we were very excited for and we watched some other TV.

Place 72 – Day 548: Vancouver, BC – Another Fun Games Night!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a team meeting at 09:30 and then after that he had some tickets to get done.

At 11:00, he had a little training session which was ran by someone who is on his team. This was informative and very helpful!

Once this was done, Curtis had a call with somebody to get an integration setup which took longer than expected, but then after that, Curtis had lunch with Kim, which she went and bought!

We had that and then Curtis had a meeting to surprise a boss at work as they got a promotion!

Once that was done, Curtis did some more tickets and some admin and then was done.

Whilst Kim was having her games night, Curtis played some games with some colleagues.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by completing paperwork ahead of a meeting, she also arranged a few other meetings for the day. She then joined her first call where she went through paperwork with her colleague. Then they went into another meeting to complete other paperwork.

After the calls Kim popped out to pick up a laptop for a new starter. She also picked up some lunch on the way home.

After lunch Kim had a call with her manager to discuss budgets for some things. Then Kim had a call with her teammate to show her part of a process for new starters. They also went over a document that they are working on together.

Kim then popped out to a shop to see if they had any of the mailing things that she needs. She couldn’t find any, but was able to get an idea of the size of the packaging that she needs so went back and ordered it online.

Kim then hosted another games night. It was a smaller group of people but it was still so fun! At the end of the games night Kim ended up having a strategy chat with a couple of people in regards to hiring. It was really interesting and so useful too!

Evening

We had pizza from dinner as it is easy and also delicious.

We went to buy that and then chilled out together for the rest of the evening.

We played some more games and more card games as well as watching TV.

Place 72 – Day 546: Vancouver, BC – Virtual Dance Party!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had just one meeting planned for the day, and that was right at 09:30 for a team catch up.

Once that was done, Curtis spent 1.5 hours getting a document together to provide some information to colleagues around the company. He felt the document was good and should help a lot of people in the future!

After that, he did some tickets and also reached out to Microsoft to see if they could assist with removing a feature from some software.

Post lunch, Curtis had to do some more tickets but also review a document that a colleague had made and see if there was anything to change or add.

Kim’s Day

After getting a few things done in the morning Kim joined a meeting to review some quotes that had been sent in. She then worked on a few documents before meeting her colleague to collect a laptop from them.

At midday Kim joined a meeting with her manager to go over a few of the projects, get up to speed on a few things and ask a few questions. She went straight from this meeting into a webinar about remote working. It was so interesting!

Kim then hosted a dance off which ended up being a mini lesson on the night fever dance followed by a few people watching the clip from the movie and dancing along. It was so much fun and a great little wellness break! They also discussed the other wellness activities that have been going on and people asked for another games night. Kim was shocked! So she sent out the invites for the next few wellness things and the Friday games night.

After lunch Kim had a chat with her teammate to go over a few things they are working on together and then she had a call with another colleague to catch up on a few things.

For the rest of the afternoon and into the evening Kim finished a few admin tasks and then worked on contracts and job descriptions.

Evening

Curtis watched hockey after work whilst Kim did some more work.

Once hockey was done, Kim made some sweet chilli potato wedges and we ate those and watched some TV.

We watched more TV and played some card games for the remainder of the day.

Place 72 – Day 542: Vancouver, BC – Playing In The Snow

We woke up this morning to quite a bit of snow, and it was still snowing!

Kim went to Tim Horton’s to get some breakfast, which was very similar to the one was had in Iceland when we got engaged! Nothing particularly crazy, just a breakfast muffin with a hash brown, doughnut and coffee, but it reminded us of being there!

After breakfast, Kim got ready and met a colleague for some distanced playing in the snow. She took the boogie board we have and slid down a hill a few times. They also had a bit of a walk but it got a bit too busy, so Kim went home.

After Kim got back home, we watched a bit of TV and then it was time for more games with work people! Kim played a lot of games for a few hours and it was a lot of fun!

Whilst she did that, Curtis watched hockey.

After we were done, it was time to get some food for the week. We couldn’t be bothered to drive to the supermarket, especially with the snow, so we walked down to a downtown supermarket near us to get enough stuff for the week.

We got all our stuff and couldn’t find anything we wanted for dinner there, so we ordered Tacofino and picked it up on the way home.

We got back home and ate that, then we took down the recycling as there was quite a bit there!

We got back to the apartment and just relaxed for the remainder of the evening. It’s a long weekend this week so that’s awesome!

Place 72 – Day 376: Vancouver, BC – The Final Fun-Day!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did some tickets and then had a meeting to discuss some project work which lasted for about an hour.

He then had to ensure that users couldn’t change some certain settings on SharePoint, which took some time.

After lunch, Curtis helped with some more tickets and questions and then his team released a new security product, which people had a lot of questions about so Curtis spent time fielding those questions.

He did some more tickets in the late afternoon and then was done for today!

Kim’s Day

Today is the final summer party! Kim added the answers and media to the final quiz and then had a meeting with her colleague to triple check it and make some edits.

An hour before the party a friend and vendor popped by to water and look after the plants for the last time and handing over to her replacement. It was great to say hello, and Kim had to explain that she collected up the plants as backgrounds for the summer parties and that they are usually spread around the office a bit more!

Then it was time for the final party. Kim collected the few things she needed and then they got started. It went so well! They had someone host the cocktail masterclass, then Kim did the quiz and at the end everyone played a few rounds of Jackbox and it was so much fun!

After the party finished Kim and her colleague went to a rooftop patio to have a little snack and another cocktail, a nice little celebration to end the summer parties.

Evening

Kim was home at a good time today and we played some mini golf, followed by some other games whilst dinner was cooking.

We had a ceasar salad with some corn on the cob on the side, as well as some homemade potato salad.

We watched Lucifer and then some YouTube videos.

We watched some more TV and went to bed.

Place 86 – Day 1: Comox, BC 🇨🇦 – Travel, Forest Walk & Evening Get Together

Travel

We were up early, around 06:00, and hopped in the car and headed up to horseshoe bay.

We got to the ferry port and had a little nap on the car until we boarded.

We got onto the boat and got a coffee for the crossing.

We got to the other side and drove from Nanaimo to Comox, where our friend lives!

We met him at his house and had some lunch which his mum prepared for us.

Forest Walk

Brody took us our for a walk around and to a town up the road for a walk around the forest!

There was some very large trees and beautiful views. This was a great relaxing walk, exactly what we needed!

Evening Get Together

We went and had a beer at a local brewery and then we went to meet Brody’s friends out at a beach so they could walk their dog.

We walked the dog and then headed to the supermarket to get some food and snacks.

We went to Brody’s friends house and took a lasagne that Brody’s mum made.

We all chatted and met a bunch of people and had a bunch of really good food, from salads to pasta to the lasagne!

We just hung out at this house and had some really good chats and a really good time.

What A Party!

We woke up at 12:00, after getting home for around 03:00 this morning!

We stayed to help tidy last night, after Kim’s holiday party, which she organised excellently!

We had a great time, and got to dress up which was fun.

McDonald’s

After we woke up, Curtis went up to McDonald’s to get us some breakfast.

Sleep Recovery

We do not over exaggerate when we say we didn’t do anything today.

We watched TV, Curtis watched hockey and that was entirely it!

For dinner, Kim had soup and Curtis had tortellini with a homemade tomato sauce.

And that was our day. Not all all exciting, but we were very tired (not hungover, though!) From the party last night.

Early Training

Kim got up early(ish) to head out to pole training.

She enjoyed the session, but it was a little early!

She headed back and when she got back, we planned to go out for breakfast.

Out For Breakfast…Or Not!

We walked up to a place we had been before, called Yolk, but when we got there, it was a 1 hour wait, so we changed our mind and walked home, with a stop at Starbucks so Curtis could try a gingerbread latte (which he liked!) And at the supermarket.

We got home and made some scrambled eggs with ham and cheese and some toast.

Leafs & Winners Shopping

Curtis watched the leafs game and whilst doing this, Kim went up to Winners to find a few things she needed for our kitchen and apartment.

Hockey

Curtis had another hockey game today, at 20:30!

We left at 19:15 to get there at a good time.

Curtis’ hockey game was awful and they lost 4-0!

Housewarming

We were invited to a housewarming party out in New Westminster, but couldn’t go for 19:00 as we had Curtis’ hockey game, so we went after!

We were there from 22:00 something and had a good time. This was for someone that Kim met through pole dancing. It was a nice house, too!
