Place 72 – Day 975: Vancouver, BC – Actual Food?!

Curtis’ Day

We started the day together, actually, and had a different breakfast! We are looking to get Kim eating breakfast, so we had a smoothie and Kim had some overnight oats! Something a little different, fairly healthy and easy to eat.

Curtis got ready for the day and then began work. He had a lot to catch up on but luckily, his mouth was feeling quite a bit better today.

He had some admin to do to catch up from his time off and then throughout the day he did some product work as well as some tickets that came in.

There was one team meeting to attend, so he attended that, and in the afternoon he was able to write up and send an email with regards to a project, which was the next big step.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a good day today! She started in a meeting reviewing job descriptions that are ready to send out to new starters soon before joining an interview. After the interview Kim assisted with a discussion about process and questions to ask that would make the screening process easier.

Kim was then able to make a couple of purchases and then join a product review to see if it is the right purchase for the company. She then joined the weekly team meeting to discuss projects and next steps.

To start the afternoon Kim had a quick hiring and planning meeting with a department to make sure that the current plan aligns with what they may need into the future. She also had a check in with a manager to make sure their new starter is settling in nicely.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim joined two interviews and their reviews. She ended the day with a call with her managers where they went into more detail on plans, projects and next moves for the department.

Evening

Once Kim finished work, we had some gnocchi with pesto and tomatoes for dinner. The first ‘actual’ food for Curtis since his surgery. It wasn’t super easy to eat and there was a little pain, but he managed it and was happy to have some solid food.

Kim did a little more work in the evening and then we watched some TV and relaxed.

Place 72 – Day 177: Vancouver, BC – The Catch Up

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was actually looking forward to going back to work.

Curtis got to work and got caught up, but had a meeting right when he got in, too, so he went into that and then after he spent the whole morning just chatting with colleagues and getting the low down on what’s happened whilst he was away.

Once that was done, Curtis got some tickets done in the afternoon, with a little bit of project work thrown in, but mostly ticket work, which was perfect.

Curtis left for the day and walked home (in the dark!).

Kim’s Day

Kim was greeted with a very warm welcome! Apparently there had been a lot of travel to book while Kim was away and her teammate who covered hadn’t been on front desk for that long for 2 years!

She also had a warm welcome from emails and messages. It took Kim a while to go through them all and was catching up with people at the same time.

She then went into the social team meeting and made plans for the next couple of weeks.

After the meeting Kim had a bit of time before heading out with 2 teammates to look at the holiday party venue and go over a few of the logistics for there.

When they got back Kim had some lunch and then started writing up some notes from the social meeting.
Then she spent some time updating the social calendar for November and moving furniture in the kitchen for an event that is happening in the afternoon.

They moved tables and chairs to make room and 3 group areas.

Kim then spent some time organising catering and looking up signature cocktails for the winter parties.

Kim is trying to link them to each theme!

She also then took some time to process some of the invoices and attempt to catch up on some of that towards the end of the day!

Relaxed Evening

We had a relaxed evening, just had some tuna pasta for dinner and watched a few videos, nothing strenuous.

Place 72 – Day 87: Vancouver, BC – Playing Catch Up & 500lb Boxes!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a productive day today, especially in comparison to the end of last week!

After getting some new tickets completed, as well as some from last week, Curtis had a meeting planned with a colleague to discuss and create a guide/cheat sheet for how to use the polycom systems in the meeting rooms.

As the meeting was going on, Curtis was told a man had arrived to drop off so.e packages but needed help to bring it upstairs. Curtis went down to the truck with him to see what was there and it was some batteries he was expecting but they were so heavy…All the boxes together weighed 500lbs (227kg)!

Curtis helped the guy get them upstairs and then briefly continued his meeting, followed by lunch.

After lunch, Curtis finished off the document and printed it out to get it in the meeting rooms to see if people use it.

Curtis did a few admin tasks for the rest of the day and cleared some old tickets that were no longer required.

Kim’s Day

It was back to work for Kim today! It was nice to be back in the office again.

Kim started by going through her emails and responding to the smaller and easier emails as she went. It was then a case going back through the more important emails that required a little more thought.

As it is Vancouver Pride this Sunday Kim is putting on a Pride themed bake off so she sent out an email about that and created a sign up sheet.

Kim then spent some time going through other emails and saving things like invoices and what-not, the less fun things came last!

There is also a National relaxation day coming up in August so Kim spent some time going through some.options we have available to celebrate this!

In the morning Kim also made arrangements with another hotel to grab lunch later in the week and grab a coffee in the afternoon which was very exciting.

Kim spent most of the afternoon continuing with her end of month finances that need to be sorted.

At about 2.45 the gentleman from the hotel arrived with a big box of doughnuts! So Kim made some coffee and they sat down and had a nice chat. The funny thing is that both he and Kim both started their roles within a month of each other. This can be both good and bad, but they are both finding their feet and starting the new relationships togther which is exciting!

After he left Kim went through some more emails and end of month processes for the rest of the afternoon.

Returning A Fan & Shopping

We got back home, got changed into more comfortable clothing, packed up the fan we bought and walked up to the shop.

We returned the fan as it wasn’t really what we were looking for and planned to get something else, but we did the weekly shop first.

After, we went in and bought the right fan and then lugged it home.

Once we got home, we had dinner. We tried veggie ‘meat’balls, and they were just ok.

We sat and watched some TV, including a Norwegian TV show and an episode of Vikings.
