Place 72 – Day 997: Vancouver, BC – Nearly Done!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went right to the office this morning. He had to get a laptop setup and sent out for someone.

Whilst he was doing this, another laptop arrived that he was waiting on, so he got that setup too.

Whilst he was there, he got a lot more of the remaining office tasks sorted out. He needed to add more monitor arms to some desks as well as order more monitors and cables ready for everyone to return to the office.

There was a pile of e-waste for Curtis to go through and take down the asset numbers to mark those as ‘disposed of’ so the records are correct.

He helped out some people in the office with moving some things and he also got some tickets done, as well as answering some messages from people.

The second laptop Curtis setup was being a pain, so he had to start again at 15:30! He managed to get it done before he finished for the day, though.

Curtis walked home and picked up coffee for him and Kim as Kim needed to work late tonight.

Kim’s Day

Kim mostly just had meetings today! She started with an interview and then went right into a 1-1 with her teammate to check in about projects.

Kim then gave her weekly update and the company wide meeting before joining a quick call to discuss the interview earlier in the day.

Towards the middle of the day Kim had a chat with her other teammate to help them build some templates, structure and a plan around social media and recruitment.

In the afternoon Kim had a couple of recruitment meetings. The first was to discuss the new plans for processes and the second and third were weekly team check ins to discuss the open roles.

To finish the day Kim joined another interview and had a quick chat after. She then spent the evening getting through some admin work. It was great to really sit down and get stuff done!

Evening

Kim worked for the evening, so Curtis played games for most of the evening, along with getting some other things around the apartment done.

Kim took a little break and we had some gnocchi and a tomato sauce for dinner. We watched a bit of TV before Kim went back to working for the rest of the evening.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went right to the office when ready in the morning (with a stop at a coffee shop, of course).

He was planning to get a laptop setup and equipment sent out to a new hire, but when he got there he got asked to do a few things by someone there.

He got those things sorted and then the laptop he was trying to setup was being a pain, so that took much longer than planned.

He eventually got all of that done and sent out and then he headed home to have some lunch and get ready to help someone in the early afternoon.

Curtis finished his lunch and then helped the person that needed some help. He did this for about 30 minutes, which was luckily shorter than he thought it would take.

He managed to get some tickets and other things done in the afternoon. Another very busy day!

Kim’s Day

Kim had an interview packed day again! She started at 830 with an interview and the review. She then took a little break to have some food before joining the second interview for the day!

Over the middle of the day Kim had 1-1 chats with employees and managers to see how things are going as well as booking in some interviews for candidates, which was interesting and not something Kim has had to do for a while!

To get started in the afternoon Kim joined a recruitment meeting where no one from the other team joined! So she had s really nice hangout and chat with her colleagues. She then joined a meeting to hand off a project to a new director as they are now the lead on it and it’s one huge thing off of Kim’s plate!

Kim then joined her final interview of the day and had a quick meeting in regards to recruitment and social media before having a review of the interview.

To finish the day Kim had a connect with an exec team member to align on their new employees onboarding process!

Evening

Kim went off to pole and Curtis played some games, as usual. Kim stopped by her CEO’s house to pick something up and ended up going on an impromptu dog walk! She got to see a lot of dogs!

When Kim got home, we watched some TV and had some food, before Kim went back to do some more work in the late evening.

Curtis’s Day

Curtis had a 09:00 onboard orientation with someone and right after that it was go-go-go all day!

Curtis had a few more meetings through the day and then a lot of the day was dealing with tickets and messages.

Not much of interest in terms of a blog write-up, but it was certainly a busy day!

Kim’s Day

Kim had a really interesting and busy day today! She started with an interview and then a review before having a 1-1 with her teammate. She then gave an update in the weekly meeting before joining a recruitment call to figure out how we want to build a team.

Kim then had another interview and review before she joined the weekly finance meeting. After lunch Kim joined two recruitment meetings. In one she got updates on the progress of roles and in the other she spoke with the team about the roles they might need.

To finish out the main part of the day Kim joined a third and final interview. She had a little break before joining a meeting just after usual work hours to finalise the exec RACI with the team. It was great to see it finished an ready to help us find the perfect people for their roles over the next few weeks!

Evening

Whilst Kim was out at pole dancing, Curtis made himself steak and a salad for dinner. He was really looking forward to having steak since he can eat proper food now!

Kim got back home and had some food and then we watched some TV before sleeping.

Place 72 – Day 976: Vancouver, BC – A Patio Lunch

Curtis’s Day

Curtis woke up and got ready and did some work in the morning, after a nice scrambled egg breakfast made by Kim!

Curtis then had a Norwegian lesson and right after that he walked down to the office.

Someone that works with Curtis but out of a different office was in Vancouver, so he got to meet them in person and the other people from the Winnipeg office that were doing work in Curtis’ office are still in Vancouver, so they all went out for lunch!

Curtis was able to actually eat some food, slowly, too! He had a blackened chicken rice bowl which was actually quite nice.

This lunch overran quite a bit but it was a lot of fun. Nice to sit and chat and feel a little normal, though it was a little weird at first.

Curtis went back to the office briefly and then walked home.

Once Curtis got home, he caught up and completed a few things he needed to do and then was done for the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a great start to her day! She had a meeting with a potential new hire and then she had a 1-1 with one of her teammates. She also gave the update in the weekly meeting before hosting a post interview review to see how it went and the next steps!

Towards the end of the morning Kim had a connect with her manager about a few things that needed to be sorted out before giving an update in the weekly finance meeting. After that call Kim had a couple of minutes to make some lunch so had a chat with her manager while she made and ate lunch.

Both Kim and her manager then went into a weekly recruitment meeting to discuss a lot of roles that are in process. She then had a quick meeting to do some event planning and give everyone updates on the couple of catch ups that are being hosted next month.

To finish the day Kim had an interview, a quick review and then she joined a meeting with a department leader to get them set up for interviews and iron out the phone screen questions they would want to have being asked in that stage.

Evening

Kim got back home from pole and we watched a bit of TV and relaxed together. Kim is going to an office to work all day tomorrow and Curtis has meetings all day!

Place 72 – Day 975: Vancouver, BC – Actual Food?!

Curtis’ Day

We started the day together, actually, and had a different breakfast! We are looking to get Kim eating breakfast, so we had a smoothie and Kim had some overnight oats! Something a little different, fairly healthy and easy to eat.

Curtis got ready for the day and then began work. He had a lot to catch up on but luckily, his mouth was feeling quite a bit better today.

He had some admin to do to catch up from his time off and then throughout the day he did some product work as well as some tickets that came in.

There was one team meeting to attend, so he attended that, and in the afternoon he was able to write up and send an email with regards to a project, which was the next big step.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a good day today! She started in a meeting reviewing job descriptions that are ready to send out to new starters soon before joining an interview. After the interview Kim assisted with a discussion about process and questions to ask that would make the screening process easier.

Kim was then able to make a couple of purchases and then join a product review to see if it is the right purchase for the company. She then joined the weekly team meeting to discuss projects and next steps.

To start the afternoon Kim had a quick hiring and planning meeting with a department to make sure that the current plan aligns with what they may need into the future. She also had a check in with a manager to make sure their new starter is settling in nicely.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim joined two interviews and their reviews. She ended the day with a call with her managers where they went into more detail on plans, projects and next moves for the department.

Evening

Once Kim finished work, we had some gnocchi with pesto and tomatoes for dinner. The first ‘actual’ food for Curtis since his surgery. It wasn’t super easy to eat and there was a little pain, but he managed it and was happy to have some solid food.

Kim did a little more work in the evening and then we watched some TV and relaxed.

Place 72 – Day 972: Vancouver, BC – Still No Pain & Blood Taken!

We woke up around 08:50 and Kim had a meeting and then Curtis woke up and led in bed relaxing for a whole. He still had no pain from his surgery, which is great! He took his pills during the night, which likely helped.

Kim went out to get her blood taken for something and whilst she did that, Curtis got out of bed.

Once Kim got back, she brought us coffee and then we hung out for a bit.

Kim did some more work, had an interview to conduct and a couple of meetings.

When it became the evening, Kim went to meet some work colleagues for pizza and drinks and had a really nice time! Just relaxing, chatting and pizza (which is the best bit, of course!).

Curtis stayed home and had some soup for dinner and played some games.

Kim got back home and we watched some TV before heading to bed.

It’s time for vaccine number 2 tomorrow at 12:45, which is exciting!

Place 72 – Day 970: Vancouver, BC – Rushed Equipment Shipping

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went to the office in the morning once he was ready as he needed to do a rushed equipment setup and shipping, so that it arrives this week.

Curtis got that done in the morning and helped a little around the office with a few of the upgrades that are being done there.

He walked home around 12:00 and picked up a coffee for us both. Once he got home, he was nice and busy answering questions and doing some tickets. This was what he did really for the rest of the day, with one meeting sprinkled in there.

After finishing work, Curtis played some games and then went to pickup some laptops with Kim.

Kim’s Day

Kim had three interviews today! She started her day with the first and had a quick review after before joining a check in with an employee finishing their first three months. Her second interview happened before the end of the morning and then she joined a call with a couple of her teammates to discuss the candidates and next steps.

Kim had a meeting with her other teammate to review an ordering process and align everything. She then had a meeting with a colleague to discuss the next few months and do some planning.

Before her final interview Kim had a great training session and discussion. It was so useful and interesting! She finished the day with an interview and a quick review.

Kim was super lucky that Curtis helped with the laptops! She joined a meeting when she got home and joined a really long, interesting and problem solving call with two wonderful colleagues!

Evening

Tonight is the last night for solid food for Curtis for a while! Due to this, we ordered some take out, so at least it’s a nice meal!

We are our food and relaxed. Curtis cannot eat or drink after 12:00, so he ensured he got enough water in him!

Tomorrow is surgery day… Curtis is incredibly nervous and he has to get an IV, which doesn’t work great with his fear of injections!

We’re sure all will go well.

Place 72 – Day 949: Vancouver, BC – Our End Of Work Week!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting with someone from the company early on in the day to ask them about a new software they are thinking of trying out, and seeing what would be required from Curtis’ team on that one.

Curtis finished that meeting and went right into a meeting with his team to discuss project work.

After that meeting, Curtis had to write up a project for the earlier meeting and then he had a 1 on 1 with his boss.

Curtis then had some tickets to do followed by creating some more things within a new software the team will be hopefully starting to use in a couple of weeks, which is exciting!

Curtis had two offboards to do after lunch and that took up most of the afternoon, but he did have a security incident to deal with too, which was interesting.

Kim’s Day

To start her day Kim had a meeting with a potential vendor and then she had a meeting with the finance team to go over a few upcoming costs and make some plans. After those Kim took a little break as the lack of sleep from the heat really started to get to her today.

After a mini break Kim had a chat with a consultancy firm to discuss next steps on a few things and make some plans for the next few weeks. She then had a call to go through a few things with a teammate and then she has a connect with a candidate for a new role to answer some questions they had.

In the early afternoon Kim joined a the weekly recruitment meeting that was on today instead as tomorrow is a day off. It was the same situation for the weekly team leaders meeting, they all met in the afternoon, gave updates and sorted out a few things too.

Kim then had two 1-1s! She had the first with a manager to discuss a new starter and then she had a one month check in with a teammate. Then to finish the day Kim worked with the recruiter and the development managers to finalise a couple of job descriptions.

A Little later in the evening Kim joined a games night too! It was so great as it felt like ages since the last games night

Evening

We have two days off coming up, or at least Curtis does, and Kim has a ‘be available’ day on Friday, so this is really our last working day before the weekend, so a nice 4 days off!

We celebrated with pizza, but from a different place! There’s a place that does thicker crust pizza and we had it a couple of times and really liked it, so we went to get that! It was a short walk away and we really enjoyed it.

We watched some TV together and then headed to bed. Kim hasn’t slept well over the last few days due to the heat, so she is excited to sleep!

Place 72 – Day 930: Vancouver, BC – IKEA, We Meet Again!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a busy day yet again!

He had some tickets to do right away in the morning and then he had a team meeting, followed by a meeting with an external vendor, which ended up leading into another meeting. The meetings were… frustrating…These settings actually brought up some more issues with the specific situation, but it was a bit enjoyable trying to figure out some solutions.

Once that was done, he had to talk someone through something which took less time than expected.

The remainder of the day was a lot of tickets and then Curtis made some niceties within the chat application at work, which make things run a bit better.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a super productive day! She sat down with her team and her manager to go through their RACI chart. Given that Kim is looking after a few teams, with just one member or less in each, it took forever! The meeting overran by about 2 hours, but it is 95% complete and it is so satisfying!

She then had a chat with her manager after to review it and write up a communication to send out to the company. They both then met with the COO ( Kim’s previous manager, and her managers new manager!) To present the RACI and discuss potential plans for hiring in the future.

IKEA

After work, we headed to IKEA so Kim could pickup her desk which she was able to order through work.

Seen as we were going there, we went in for a look around to see if there was anything else we could get.

We got ourselves some replacement glasses (as Curtis keeps breaking them, for some reason) and also some more mugs as well as some other random items and Swedish chocolate, of course.

We drove back home and on the way we picked up KFC to have for dinner.

The rest of the evening was relaxation and just watching some TV.

Place 72 – Day 929: Vancouver, BC – Making Lots of Plans!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started his day right at 09:00 with a meeting which lasted for about 1.5 hours. In this meeting, he set out a whole project and got it ready to start! This has been a long time coming, so it was good to get it all flushed out and ready to go.

After that, he had a quick meeting with an external provider who will be doing some workshops for the team.

Curtis then had a task to help someone through which actually took about an hour, though it did work at the end!

He had a meeting after this with regards to returning to the office and planning all the work that needs to be done for that.

The remainder of the day was busy with tickets and other things, and then Curtis did some of his Norwegian homework. Today was a busy day, but in a good way!

Kim’s Day

Kim had another long and interesting day today! It started with two interviews back to back, with a little time to chat between them. She then joined the department update and was able to do some admin during it too!

She then had time with her new teammate to see how they have been doing, give them direction and assigned some new tasks too. They both then joined the weekly recruitment meeting.

After a quick lunch Kim had a 1-1 with her other teammate and they went over goals, plans and things coming up. It was a great chat! Then towards the end of the day Kim had two 1 month check ins sandwiching an end of day catch up with two managers.

She then popped out to pickup a new laptop and on the way she stopped at her hair salon to exchange a product she bought for some that will work better for her hair.

Once she was home Kim accidentally worked on a bunch of mini projects and fun tasks. Then after dinner she had a call with an exec to discuss an onboarding plan for a new starter while she set up their laptop. A successful day?

Evening

Kim worked fairly late, so we just had frozen pizza for dinner.

We were going to have a walk but then Kim had to do some work and ended up having a chat with someone from work and then it got too late for a walk! She got some stuff done that she needed to, though!
