Place 49 & 53 – Day 228 & 19: Auckland & Wellington – There & Back In A Day!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis didn’t have to get up early and go to the office. Instead, he woke up when Kim woke up, had breakfast and chilled out. Curtis didn’t have to get to the airport until 10:30, so he didn’t need to leave until around 09:45!

Once Curtis eventually left, it was an easy and quick drive to the airport. There wasn’t much traffic at all.

Curtis got to the airport and went to the first car park he saw, which was the wrong one! Curtis was meant to to go to M but went to R instead. There isn’t a huge difference, but R is just a little more expensive as it’s under cover. As Curtis had already entered the car park he was unable to leave so he had to park there!

Curtis already checked in online so he went right to the gate. Curtis got a cappuccino and waited whilst doing some work.

Curtis boarded the plane and fell asleep during the flight which made it go fast!

Once Curtis landed in Wellington, he got an Uber to the client. When he got to the client, Curtis was give a large list of things to do/look at, of which he got most of it done.

Curtis had to leave the client just 2.5 hours after arriving to catch a flight back. He got to the airport and grabbed a small Subway and ate it before proceeding through security and to the gate.

Curtis’ flight home was uneventful and once he landed he paid for his car parking and drove home.

Kim’s Evening;

Kim went to the gym directly from work. Kim was there for a while and even did a 20 minute ‘run’ on the cross-trainer!

Kim stopped off at the shop on the way back to get some supplies.

Both of us;

Curtis still got home before Kim!

Once Kim got home, she showered and Curtis setup the TV and heated up our last portions of our pasta bake…

We watched an episode of Modus and then we were incredibly tired so just made lunches and went to bed!

The below link will take you to one of our best blogs yet! A great read about our (VERY brief) wander into North Korea.

Place 49 & 53 – Day 125 & 18: Auckland & Wellington – Last Flight Home from Wellington

Kim’s Day;

Kim had a doctors appointment in the morning. So she headed off, too early at 9:10, for that.

After she came home and had some breakfast and watched the final episode of queer eye! She then did a little research on flights and possible trips!

Kim then did all the boring housework, hoovering, dishes and all that fun stuff.

She then got ready and headed into work.

Once she arrived Kim started her day with a little back office stuff that took a few hours and then she prepared for a function that was on in the evening. She got herself well prepared!

The function went well, everyone was fed and happy, which is brilliant.
Kim then spent a bit of time setting up for the two functions that are on tomorrow!

She also then set up for breakfast service.

Kim then stopped at McDonald’s to grab some dinner to take home for Curtis and herself as the shops were closer so she couldn’t cook! What a shame!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis started the day with checking out. Curtis checked out and drove for his final breakfast at Carlton Cafe!

Curtis had pancakes with maple syrup, banana and bacon… There was far too much but it was delicious!

Curtis left here and drove to the client for the final time. He had to cover the helpdesk from 09:00-10:00 which was strange as he hasn’t had to do so for such a long time! Curtis got his teeth stuck into some problems from that and then went right back into finishing up for the client.

Curtis was sat in the ‘sunroom’ for the morning which gets all the sunlight and is very peaceful! That being said, Curtis got invaded by a lot of people so it ruined it a bit. Curtis then went and found another room.

Curtis didn’t have too much to do but had to write up a few emails to prepare the client for the future without him there and had to sort a few issues.

Just as Curtis was going to leave he got approached by a few people asking for help, which Curtis gave.

Curtis was able to get to the airport at almost a perfect time, having just enough time to grab a beer before the flight.

The flight was incredibly bumpy just after take off but much better after that and it even landed 15 minutes early!

Curtis got an uber home and then waited for Kim to come home from work.

Both of us;

Kim got home with our dinner, the finest McDonald’s, and we watched one TV show before heading to bed as Kim has work in the morning.

It’s nice for Curtis to be home… He’s home this whole week at least too!

Place 49 & 53 – Day 118 & 13: Auckland & Wellington – Really Busy Shift

Kim’s Day;

Today Kim had another late start so she relaxed in the morning and then headed into work.

Kim was on restaurant this evening. It was a very busy shift, mostly for the bar, we had a steady stream of diners but the bar area was absolutely packed!

The highlight of Kim’s evening was when an adorable one year old waved at Kim and gestured for a cuddle. Kim then had a quick cuddle with the baby before setting her up a high chair. This little girl was so happy and smiley, she made everyone’s evening!

Kim then started winding down the staff members throughout the night as it steadily got quieter.

For dinner Kim had salad and chips! While she ate her dinner she sat with a couple of coworkers! It was a really good shift, nice and busy, but not out of control!

Kim then drive home to see Curtis! She was so excited! She missed him a lot this week!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis had eggs benedict for breakfast and then drove to the client.

Today was very chilled and not too busy, which is a good thing!

Curtis left the client at 14:30 and drove to the airport.

Curtis got to the airport, checked in and lounged around. Curtis then bought a Moroccan chicken bap.

Curtis went to the gate and eventually boarded the plane.

Once the flight landed, Curtis got his bag and waited for his uber.

There was a lot of traffic getting out of the airport so it took a while to get home. Once he did, he had a shower and then some of Kim’s risotto!

Both of us;

Once Kim got home, we shared some wine and watched some TV before heading to bed. We were both so tired!

Place 49 & 53 – Day 117 & 12: Auckland & Wellington – Some Sun? ☀

Kim’s Day;

Today Kim had a really late start of 4pm so had a nice long lie in. The treated herself to poached eggs and hash browns for breakfast.

The wifi was still down in the morning so Kim used her phone as a hotspot in order to watch some TV, it worked so well! This surprised Kim because she is usually bad at that sort of stuff.

Kim then paid the tax on her car, it was very quick and easy.

Then she headed out to give Tabitha a life how from the city. She popped across the bridge, picked her up and then dropped her off on the way to work.

Kim was covering for a couple of people tonight as it was meant to be her day off. She got in and spent most of the evening on bar. It was a really good shift where nothing terrible happened and we were busy enough to keep us ticking over, it wasn’t busy, it was just constant.

Kim then popped to the shop to grab some garlic bread to go with the leftover risotto from yesterday. Kim thought the if she gets some then there is enough food for her for tonight and Curtis for tomorrow.

She then got home, cooked the risotto and had a nice chat with Curtis. After this she curled up on the couch and watched some more TV. Just before heading to bed she called Curtis one last time, its the best way to end any day when he isn’t here!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis must have been tired because he slept through his alarms and woke up 15 minutes late. Luckily, he was still able to leave at normal time.

Strangely, the storm had all but gone and there was some sun!

He headed down for breakfast (he went for bacon and eggs this morning!) and then left to get to the client.

Curtis was able to sit down, relax a little and get 95% of niggling problems sorted. There were a few files that hadn’t migrated (again!) and so he had to deal with that too!

Before he knew it, the work day was over so he went back to the hotel.

When Curtis got back, it turned out he had to get some stuff done anyway, as well as finishing some of the migration.

Curtis chilled for most of the evening though and ordered some Mexican for dinner! Chips and dips and a BIG burrito bowl!

At least there was no fire today, eh?

Curtis works for the morning and then flies back to Auckland in the evening.

Place 49 & 53 – Day 116 & 11: Auckland & Wellington – Fire Brigade Called! 🔥 🌩

Kim’s Day;

Today Kim was on an early start and the storm from last night had not eased up! All of the traffic lights were working but it was freezing, windy and wet. During the night there were records of 230kph winds!
When she got into work there was a couple arriving at the same time looking to check in. So Kim went through all of that and then got on with the daily morning tasks. She helped the usual of set up the outside, except instead of putting the chairs to be sat at, they are stacked two per table, wedges between the wall and table to avoid flying chairs!
The morning consisted of invoicing and check outs.

At breakfast Kim sat down to a veggie eggs Benedict. It was delicious!

Then at midday Kim had a family of four check in so she helped housekeeping take a spare bed up to their room.
A little later on Kim helped housekeeping with putting a baby’s cot back down. She managed to figure out one but had no idea how to do the second!

After her shift Kim sat down to try the soup that the head chef made, it was a tasty pumpkin and coconut soup. It was wonderful.

Kim then headed home and on the way she stopped to buy stuff for dinner, a homemade chicken and mushroom risotto! Kim then got in and pottered around the house for a bit. Kim then went to sit down and enjoy some TV but could not connect to the internet. After calling Curtis (her on hand IT support person) and figuring out that it was probably something to do with the storm Kim headed out in the search for a new black hoodie.

Kim went to the warehouse and saw a sign for slippers! Now, anyone who has met Kim will know that she will always get very cold feet and WILL complain about it. This obsession with slippers even meant she wore slippers to the wedding! So Kim managed to find a nice cheap pair of slippers, a hoodie and a nice fluffy blanket. Kim will not be cold this winter. The blanket was a halfway house between proper winter bedding and a dressing gown!

Kim then got in and tried Cutis’ new idea for the WiFi. That didn’t work. Nicola got in while this happened and then called the provider who said it should be fixed 24-48 hours after the first call was logged (the night before) but that because it was such a big storm it could take a little longer. In a nutshell, they don’t know when it will be fixed!

Kim then made a start on dinner. Nicola and Kim then ate while watching some of he common wealth games. Just as they finished dinner the men’s 1m diving competition came on and Kim couldn’t not watch that! It was a brilliant way to spend the evening!

She then called curtis and went to sleep!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis went to have his usual panini at the usual cafe and then drove to the client, getting there for about. 08:45.

As soon as Curtis got there, he was given a list of things to sort, most of which were completed in the morning.

During the day, Curtis did a few more file migrations and sorted some more issues before heading back to the hotel at 15:00.

Curtis finished off some work and finished it by about 19:00 meaning he had most of the evening spare! Before this though, at about 17:00, Curtis ordered some Greek food!… Well… A lot of Greek food!

He has Moussaka, roasted vegetables, roast potatoes and pita bread. A feast!

Just after he finished work there was a big gust of wind, a lot of rain and then a massive flash, a big bang which sounded worse and much louder than thunder and then the fire alarm went off!

Everyone had to evacuate and wait for the fire brigade to arrive.

Apparently, the lightning hit the roof! What are the chances!

Eventually though, all was safe so back to his room he went.

He chilled out for the rest of the evening and spoke to Kim.

Place 49 & 53 – Day 115 & 10: Auckland & Wellington – All Day Storm ☔ 🍃

Kim’s Day;

Today Kim did actually start at two, so she had a nice relaxed morning! She watched the storm roll in over Auckland and saw a couple of flashes of lightning too!

On the drive into work a few of the traffic lights were not working, which made for a confusing drive!

When Kim got into work she took over from both managers so was working on reception and managing the restaurant. This meant that Kim had a lot of time to go through emails, confirm bookings, but also get up and help out on the floor.

The whole shift was relatively uneventful but it was still a good shift. throughout the evening the storm just got worse. Towards the end of the shift the hotel had the lights flicker in the restaurant a couple of times, on the last time the street lights outside all went off.

On the drive home there were patches of no street or traffic lights. There was also bits of tree everywhere, and not just the occasional small branch, there was a full chunk of tree in the road. Kim saw one wheely bin trapped under a massive clump of tree!

Kim came home, relaxed and then had a nice chat to Curtis before heading to bed.

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis woke up at 07:30 and got ready to leave the hotel. He left at about 08:00 and got to his favorite Cafe for breakfast!

Instead of the usual panini, Curtis got bacon and eggs on toast which hit the spot.

Curtis got to the client (thought it was very busy!) and got right to work. It turned out that some files hadn’t migrated so he had to work on that for most of the day as well as some other issues here and there.

Before he knew it, Curtis had done more than his 6 hours of support and headed back to the hotel.

Once he got back, he chilled for 30 minutes and then got back to work. He had to migrate some more folders and had to actually make sure they worked!

This was done by 22:00.

It hasn’t stopped raining since last night in Wellington so it’s fairly miserable as well as very wet and windy!

Curtis went to get some McDonald’s for dinner because he couldn’t be bothered to go anywhere else and had work to do!

Place 49 & 53 – Day 114 & 9: Auckland & Wellington – Wellington Pt. 3

We woke up together at the lovely time of 04:30.

Kim came with Curtis to the airport and then drove the car back home.

Kim’s Day;

Once Kim dropped Curtis off at the airport she drove home, texted Curtis and her family for a bit before getting some more sleep.

Today Kim thought she started at 2, it turns out the this was not the case and Kim work up and then realised that she was meant to be at work! This meant that Kim had to get ready and get to work sharpish. Luckily Kim was only on admin until 2 so she didn’t cause anyone any issues.

When Kim got in she made a start going through upcoming events and filing the functions folder. It was really good to go through everything and get a better understanding.

Kim then had a meeting at 2 with someone who is planning a birthday party. Kim sat down and went through the room layout and their plans for the function. Kim really enjoyed this and might have even managed to sell a room or two to go with the function!

She then had some lunch and started to draw up a table lay out for the function and write up what they had discussed.

Kim then had a few check ins throughout the day and sent out a chaser for arrival times for all upcoming bookings for the whole coming week.

The dinner after work was absolutely perfect, it was a sweet lamb dish and salad. She sat and ate with Tabitha. Today was a productive and good day for Kim!

Kim then headed home and watched a bit of the Common Wealth Games with Nicola while eating a couple of late easter hot cross buns. She then sat down and called Curtis, the perfect way to end a day.

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis got into the airport and checked his bag. He then went and hot some breakfast from McDonald’s.

Curtis got through security and had plenty of time so decided he would get a coffee… Only to find out that the coffee shop was closed!

Curtis just sat at the gate waiting to board the plane.

During the flight, Curtis got a coffee and had a little nap before arriving in Wellington.

Curtis got his rental car (still not a Mustang) and drove to the client.

When Curtis got to the client, there was a lot to do and he didn’t stop for the whole time! He eventually left around 15:00.

Curtis got back to the hotel and ended up doing a bit more work before chilling for a bit and then doing MORE work!

Curtis had to migrate a lot of files and it wasn’t playing ball, so took most of the evening.

Curtis got some food from the hotel as it was raining a crazy amount outside before chatting with Kim for a bit before bed!

Place 49 & 53 – Day 111 & 8: Auckland & Wellington – Impromptu Dinner Date!

Kim’s Day;

Today was a day off for Kim! Woo!
She started her day as she meant to go on, doing nothing!

Kim didn’t manage to watch any TV last night so watched queer eye while eating breakfast and then spent a few hours just relaxing and doing nothing.

Mid afternoon Kim made a start on boring admin stuff. She had to do the banking and do tax stuff. This was time consuming and boring, but had to be done!

After this Kim treated herself to a game of fortnite.

Kim then headed out to help Nicola get another sofa for the living room. When she got there they tried fitting the sofa in her car but when that didn’t work they tried fitting it in Nicolas car, once through the boot and once through the door with the seats hidden away. No matter what they did they were not able to fit the sofa into either cars.

Nicola then called a friend for help and Kim set off to pick Curtis up from the airport. Halfway there she remembered that she was also giving Curtis work friend a lift too which meant she had to move the sofa cushions and back seats around in her car to fit everyone and their luggage in!

Kim then parked up in the pick up / drop off point and called Curtis because did not see her waving.
It’s nice to have him home again. Even if it is only for a few days!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis grabbed one of the incredible paninis again, along with a (XL) cappuccino! He then grabbed one coffee to go and got right to the client.

There were some issues to pickup but there were only a couple of things planned to do.

Curtis was given a room he could sit in and he worked through the items as well as sorting out the planned items.

Curtis had a Skype call with his new manager regarding his annual appraisal and then had to get to the airport.

Curtis got on his flight (with an upgrade to an exit row, again!) and got a free sandwich and coffee.

Both of us;

When Curtis landed, Kim came and picked him and Colten up.

We drove Colten home and had a chat with him and his girlfriend before heading to the city.

We stopped at Curtis’ work to get his car and for Curtis to get changed and then we walked to the city to find food.

We found a hotel restaurant which had incredible looking food for a decent price.

We both had the steak, which came with a jus, trio of carrot, baby kumara and a truffle butter. It was incredible.

We drove back home and moved a sofa upstairs to the living room before chilling out for the evening.

Place 49 & 53 – Day 110 & 7: Auckland & Wellington – Curry Night!

Kim’s Day;

Today Kim had planned to head into work for 11, but woke up to a message that we had a person over to fix the fridge for 10:30-11. Kim then arranged to be in work a little later, at this point everyone just wants a working fridge!

The guy came by to fix the fridge and it took him 10 minutes to locate the issue, a snapped sire in between the wire holder, and fix it. After he had done this he ran a few tests to ensure that everything was running smoothly. The whole thing still cost less than it would for the official company call out fee!

Kim then headed into work about 30 minutes late. It was a good thing that Kim was in early for admin as her colleagues child wasn’t feeling well so needed to be picked up from school This just meant hat Kim manned reception for an extra few hours.

In the time between Kims proper reception shift at 2 Kim got a bit of admin done, this was mainly getting things ready for the power outage that is due to happen in the evening.

Come 2pm Kim was ready to go on reception and look over as restaurant manager too. Just before three she sat down for some lunch, it was a veggie and chorizo pasta.

Kim then spent the most of her afternoon balancing admin, check ins and restaurant. Luckily the restaurant wasn’t too busy so Kim was able to get a lot of admin done and just jump on bar when needed.

It was a nice and quiet shift where people either went home early or on time. Just before the end, Kim closed a little early and then was on shift all alone, waiting to hand over to the night porter. She then sat down and ate her dinner with her boss, which was nice.

Kim then got home and had a nice long chat with Curtis before watching an episode of queer eye.

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis went to the Cafe for breakfast again and then went right to client, getting there for around 09:00.

Curtis had some things to do from yesterday but got them sorted as well as speaking to a few people.

Once that was done, there were a few more areas left that needed to be migrated and the majority got completed today. It was a pretty productive day!

Curtis left at around 16:30 (having not had lunch!) and went back to the hotel and worked from 18:30-20:30 and then went out for dinner.

Colten and Curtis decided to get Subway again, but smelled an Indian place on the way so had a curry instead. Curtis thinks it was one of the best curries he’s had!

Place 49 & 53 – Day 109 & 6: Auckland & Wellington – Fridge Goes From Bad to Worse!

Kim’s Day;

Today Kim was on the morning shift again!

She did the usual set up and got on with her day. Kim spent most of her day getting the regular admin done. During the mid morning Kim did an accidental and impromptu coffee lesson for one of the guys she works with. It was good fun to try to see how much in depth stuff Kim remembered from being taught many years ago when she started work at The Redbridge. It turns out it was quite a lot!

Kim took a phone call for a possible large booking which is very exciting!

At the end of her shift, Kim hung around for someone who got caught up in some traffic, those are the joys of one road in and out!

When Kim got home she relaxed and it was perfect! She was then texting a friend about a dessert that they had made and wanted Kim to try and then a few minutes later they had made dinner plans and she was on her way!

One she got there, Kim started dinner, just a simple pasta and meat sauce, nothing too exciting!

She bought over the wonderful dessert and a cider each! So the two of them just sat and talked for hours.

After a little while Nicola came home and joined in on the chatting! It was such a brilliant evening, nice and relaxing.

Nicola and Kim decided to try to give the fridge another go. It started up perfectly and was silent. Then 30 seconds later the beeping started again! Kim then started looking for parts for what they assume is broken where she came across a helpline. Kim called the helpline with the hope of being able to get them to listen and tell us which part needed to be replaced, unfortunately this was not the case and they have had to arrange for a technician to come out. The worst part is that won’t be until next Tuesday! This puts us all back in the same position of being fridge-less! At least we are making progress with getting it fixed!

Kim then relaxed a little more and had a chat with Curtis before heading to bed!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis started the day right with one of the bacon and egg paninis from the Cafe down the road and got right to work when he arrived at the client.

There was some things to finish up from last night and then a while large team to migrate, so that was the main focus.

Curtis sat with someone for 2 hours to answer done questions and then get on with the migrations.

For about an hour in the afternoon, Curtis got through some of the teething problems and then he and Colten went for ‘lunch’ at 17:00!

Curtis got a Subway again and then went back to the hotel and chilled out until 19:00 at which he started to work again, but not doing too much!

Tomorrow should be a less busy day but still busy none the less.

Also, there was a beautiful sky this evening in Wellington!
