Place 72 – Day 991: Vancouver, BC – Beach, Drinks & Snacks!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a company wide meeting at 09:00 which unveiled some very interesting news!

After that, Curtis had a team meeting and then he talked a colleague through how to do something.

Curtis then had some tickets to do, followed by a meeting to help someone with something. The afternoon was mostly tickets and then he also did a bit of security work.

Curtis got some of his Norwegian homework done in the early evening, until Kim got home.

Kim’s Day

Kim had another busy and productive day! She woke up and got ready. Then she had breakfast and started whiteboarding with her managers. They managed to get into some really great topics and iron so much out.

In the early afternoon they left the hotel, popped things in the car and headed over to a nearby cafe to finish the day. Kim was able to get a few things done while everyone else was on a call and then they continued the discussions. Later on Kim did a mini presentation and tour of some research she had been doing and was really happy to know she was on the right track and getting stuff done!

Evening

We walked down to the beach and met a couple of Kim’s colleagues who were down there. We sat and chatted for a little bit but then needed to head to the hotel Kim was at last night to meet another colleague and friend of Kim’s there as they had some drink tokens for the bar! Curtis finally got to meet her after speaking with her a few times on Zoom but never in person.

We had a drink and a snack and had some really good chats. Overall, a pretty fun evening!

We stopped at our favourite Vietnamese place to get a banh mi for dinner.

We got home and watched a bit of TV together and headed to be fairly early, for us.

Place 72 – Day 961: Vancouver, BC – New Glasses!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a quick onboard orientation in the morning and then joined his team to use a new software for 2 weeks!

Curtis had to setup accounts for another new hire and then he got right into a team meeting followed by some project work, which lasted really for most of the day.

After work, Curtis got the remainder of his Norwegian homework completed and thrn played some games whilst waiting for Kim to finish up work.

Curtis’ new glasses arrived today, so he can actually see well again!

Kim’s Day

Kim went to start her day with a meeting just as it got moved. So she was able to get some admin done. She then joined a meeting about a research project that will start over the next week or so.

Around mid morning Kim joined the recruitment meeting that was pushed from earlier in the morning. It was interesting and involved lots of interesting discussions. She then joined three different one week check ins before also having a one month chat. Kim really enjoys interacting with new employees and seeing how things are going.

In the afternoon Kim joined a team meeting before having a quick break for lunch. She then joined another recruitment meeting for a department to see the new roles they may want to hire for over the next 12 months.

Kim then had a a while to get a bit of admin done before she had a chat with a few people about another new role and how one team is likely to look and be shaped over the coming months.

In the evening Kim worked on setting up some laptops. Two worked fine and the final one has been a nightmare. Kim has totally set it up yet it still isn’t working as expected. The plan is currently to leave it overnight and try again in the morning. If that doesn’t work she will have to factory reset and start the whole process again!

Evening

We had a delicious dinner! Kim had a mushroom sandwich with caramelised onions and relish whilst Curtis made a steak sandwich with caramelised onions and relish. Delicious! We were still a little hungry after though, so we had some salad.

Kim finished up a bit more work and then we went out for a night walk.

Place 72 – Day 582: Vancouver, BC – Informative Meetings

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a company-wide meeting to discuss what’s currently going in around the business and to get some updates on some things. These are always super interesting and informative.

Once that was done, Curtis had a few tickets to get done throughout the day and also he had quite a few discussions with his team and other teams about different processes, getting an order of laptops completed as well as getting some information about some onboards.

Curtis did some very interesting Norwegian homework to end the day and then watched hockey.

Kim’s Day

In the morning Kim had a fair few meetings! A couple were HR based and one was about recruitment. She also had some training on the benefits platform and how everything for that works too. The training was so great and Kim was so relieved to understand things a little more.

Just after midday Kim joined the weekly recruitment meeting and then she hosted the weekly dance off. This week they danced to Gangnam Style. Then Kim co-hosted an interview

In the afternoon Kim joined another recruitment call and then had two catch ups with people after the meeting.

Later in the evening Kim joined a call to discuss a design project that she might be helping with. It was really interesting and she can’t wait to help out!

Evening

Once hockey was done and Kim finished work, we made baked potatoes and watched some TV for the evening, as well as playing some games.

Place 72 – Day 143: Vancouver, BC – Helping Strangers

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and there were a lot of new tickets, so he went through those and started fixing stuff!

He did that for a while and then looked into purchasing laptop for someone, which took way longer then expected.

After lunch, Curtis spent all afternoon seeing how his project would work on a mac as he forgot to do that!

Once he figure it out, he took some screenshots and put them into the guide.

On the way to meet Kim wwhilst walking home, Curtis was stopped by two girls who said they had a school project and wanted him to help them.

They played him some music and asked him what language he thought it was (it was Persian) and what he thought of the song. Random but something interesting!

Once Curtis finished that, Kim showed up and we walked home.

Kim’s Day

This morning Kim had the socil team meeting, so she spent a bot of time preparing for that by organising the minutes from the last meeting and arranging the talking points for today’s. Other than that Kim took calls and ad hoc tasks for some of the morning.
The meeting went really well, Kim divided up a few of the action points rather than trying to take them all on herself. Mainly because she isnt around for Halloween and thats where a fair amount of the focus went. They set up some good ideas for further into the future too!
When Kim got back to her desk she made a few amendments to the quiz she has made for the other office. This will reduce the amount of potential cheating and gives us the opportunity to do the whole quiz again in a few months if there is a want!
Kim then sat down for a quick lunch. When she got back to her desk Kim made a good start on the holiday party invites. She made a base template and had a section that is customisable per city location.
Kim then had a little impromptu catch up with her manager for about 30 minutes which was nice.

After this Kim looked at some options for the holiday party for the UK office and then caught up on emails before heading home.

Evening

We got back home and Curtis made his dinner, which was the same as yesterday.

We watched a 45 minute YouTube video and then Kim got ready to head out to exercise.

Kim’s class was fun. Its was the class closes off the month where she put all the moves she learnt into nice little combos!

Once Kim got home, she showered and we watched the next Great British Bake Off episode.

Place 72 – Day 81: Vancouver, BC – Hockey Kit!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ day was very quiet!

Curtis had some admin to do when he got to the office and then he completed a laptop setup for a laptop he started configuring yesterday.

Once that was done, Curtis had a meeting but it was interupted by needing to help people in the boardroom with the meeting they were having.

Curtis completed his meeting after helping people and then did a bit of project work.

Curtis got another laptop setup and then it was the end of the day!

Curtis received his hockey equipment at work so had to walk that home.

Kim’s Day

Today in the course they focused on Airway Management. At the beginning they went through patient positioning, this covered how you would manoeuvre a person from standing to lying on their back. From lying on their stomach to their back and finally from lying on their back to lying in the recovery position. Then there was a quiz to go over everything that had been taught so far.

The rest of the morning covered airway and breathing on a conscious person. In this they covered both partial and complete airway blockages and how to dislodge a complete blockage through hitting the patients back, using the abdomonal thrusts and chest thrusts. In this section they also covered CPR and the use of an AED / defibrillator. With each new skill there was a demonstration and then everyone got to practise.

In the afternoon everyone covered airway and breathing for an unresponsive patient. There were also assessments with scenarios where people would be called upon to preform CPR on a dummy alone while being watched by the instructor. The instructor said Kim did well!

Hockey Kit

Curtis got home and tried on his hockey kit. It all fit perfectly, which was excellent!

He got all of the equipment together and went down to the garage to put it there.

Kim did a bit of homework and studying for her first aid and Curtis made sloppy joe’s for dinner.

We watched some videos and then Kim did some more research.

We finished the evening with a bit of TV and then went to sleep.
