Place 72 – Day 986: Vancouver, BC – Back To The Gym

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a much quieter day today.

He did some tickets and admin throughout the day, and did have one team meeting which he ran. He had to get updates on projects from his team and ensure it was all on track.

In the late afternoon, he did some team building with some people from his team and played some games with them until the end of the work day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a really great day and it was such a wonderful way to end the week! She started by waking up late and was really thankful for Curtis helping load the car up. She then drove to a nearby town to meet some teammates there to show them the laptop set up process.

Once she arrived Kim took all the laptops up to the board room in the office over a few trips. Luckily on the final trip Kim bumped into her teammate. Everyone got comfy in the room then Kim and her manager joined a call to discuss some IT stuff.

She then did a little admin before walking everyone through the laptop set up process. They all took a break to move their cars and then Kim had a quick chat to discuss a candidate, but most of the people weren’t able to turn up. So Kim took the time to work with her teammates to pack up!

They all then went to a nearby restaurant to meet two other teammates and it was so lovely! They all then left to head over to a nail salon for pedicures, ok the way Kim took a call to discuss the candidate that she wasn’t able to talk about earlier. She then had a wonderful break getting pampered and just relaxing.

Before everyone headed home a few people joined a call to discuss another candidate and the next steps there!

Evening

Kim got back home and we had some snacks pre-gym. We are finally able to head back to the gym after Curtis’ surgery, and having the time!

We did a 1 hour workout, but took it much easier than last time as Kim has been to pole a lot this week and Curtis didn’t take any breaks last time, and he really felt that!

After going to the gym, we undid all of our good work and ordered burgers for dinner! Curtis has been craving a burger since he had his surgery and now was his chance to have one!

We ordered from a place called Juice Joe’s which is a horrible name, but the burgers were really delicious!

We hung out for the evening and relaxed. We were meant to be going to an outside gathering with people from Kim’s work tomorrow but it’s meant to rain so that got cancelled.

Place 72 – Day 964: Vancouver, BC – Working Out Again

Curtis’ Day

Curtis continued the project he was working on yesterday at any spare moment today, but he did have some other things to do.

He had to do 2 contractor onboards, as well as some tickets. Curtis then had a couple of meetings throughout the day. One was a team meeting, the second a meeting with someone to discuss a potential project and some research Curtis had done and then the third was a one on one.

Curtis got more of the project done whilst he wasn’t in meetings and overall had a successful day.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with a three month check in to see how a new employee has been settling in. She then managed to have a quick call with her colleague before getting some admin done and then having a short surprise call with a manager. They both then joined the department updates meeting.

Kim went straight from the department updates meeting into the weekly recruitment meeting. Some great decisions were made and there are lots of great plans in process. That call overran but Kim had a spare fee minutes so jumped on the social call for a little while, guessed a charades round and left on a win!

After lunch Kim rushed back to get ready for an interview to realise that the interview was in 45 minutes rather than 15. So she used the time to chase the courier service for an update on the missing item.

Kim then joined the interview and it overran and she then joined a review call which took a while. There were some great conversations that spun off from the review and it was amazing!

In the evening Kim was able to get a fair few info pages up and running. She was so happy to get these things underway and set up for people to use!

Working Out!

Our gym in our building has opened now, and it must be booked by one household at a time. We could only book it for 10pm, but that was fine with us.

We had a small dinner before hand and then walked down to the gym to get some working out done, for the first time in a long, long time!

We felt pretty good after, but a little tired!

We relaxed for the remaining evening and then headed to bed.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a pretty busy and successful day!

It started with a call with someone who had some questions about email encryption, so Curtis and his colleague jumped into that and got those questions answered and helped with next steps.

Curtis then did a few tickets followed by a plumber showing up to fix a sink plug that wasn’t working.

Right after the plumber, the ‘window guy’ arrived to look at our dodgy window. It seems it actually either needs replacing or he needs to come back and try a few things to it.

Once the window guy left, Curtis had some other tickets to work on and then had some lunch.

Post lunch, Curtis had even more tickets to complete, as well as writing up a communication for the company.

Kim’s Day

Kim was in the office nice and early today to meet the people coming in for the renovations, shortly before they were due to arrive she got a call telling her they will be late. So Kim hopped on the midweek catchup call and had a great time talking with everyone.

After the call Kim played the undefeated champions of the cribbage tournament. At the end of the game they were still undefeated! It was also the last game of the round robin part of the tournament. Kim then worked out the pairing for the next round and updated the spreadsheet.

While Kim was updating the spreadsheet the renovations person turned up and ended up only being able to do one small part of the project as the filler had to dry before the wall can be painted and the TV mounted. So they will arrange for a day next week where two people can come in to finish the project.

For a lot of the morning Kim went through all of the marketing stock and made notes of what there is and in what quantities. It was great to get the area organised and have a better idea of what there is.

In the middle of sorting through the stock Kim had a meeting with a colleague in regards to mail and general plans for the offices.

As a friend of Kim’s works in town, they met up for lunch and sat 2 tables apart in the kitchen. It was so amazing to see her and have a great catchup in a nice and safe environment.

After lunch Kim wrote up her notes from the meeting earlier and made a good plan of what she has to do. She also made a proper log of the marketing stock to send over to the team.

Non-Apartment Hunt Evening!

We didn’t have any apartments to look at today and noone came to look at ours, so it was a fairly standard evening.

We went to the supermarket and there was no line which surprised us.

We did the shop quickly and then came back home to do our workout!

We finished our workout which felt like the first one in a while and then had a quick dinner.

We then relaxed and watched some TV, followed by mini sticks and Need For Speed!

Curtis’ Day

The weather outside was wonderful this morning when we went for our walk, so Curtis felt refreshed and ready to start the day.

After he showered and had breakfast, Curtis did some admin and then had another computer checkup to complete at 09:30, so he did that and then did some security work.

After that, he had his daily team meeting, followed by some project work and then he had another checkup to do.

Curtis got his project work completed and then had his weekly team meeting.

After that, he actually ended up having a busy afternoon, which he wasn’t expecting, as he had some people reach out about some issues, and that lead him perfectly to the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim got herself ready to play a game of cribbage, earlier than she would usually start working. So she got orgnaised, joined the call, and then realised it wasn’t her game! So she left and then did a test of a bunch of light bulbs in the apartment and made a bin pile and replaced some of the dead lights in the kitchen.

When she started work at the proper time she reached out to someone she is meant to be arranging a phone screen for as they had not been in contact.

Kim then spent most of her day working on righting a wellness and ergonomics document for the Wiki. It was something that her manager said would be a good thing to have for people to refer to while working from home. So Kim did her research and spent most of the day making the document to be a interesting and informative!

She also joined yoga at midday and in the afternoon updated the cribbage tracker to account for the games that took place today. Towards the end of the day, she aldo heard back from the candidate and booked them in for their phone screen.

Back To Working Out

We worked out after Kim got back from the office.

We played some mini sticks first as a warm-up, of course, and then did our working out which felt great.

We both showered and then we had chicken pesto pasta for dinner as it was almost 20:00 and we were hungry, so it was nice and quick.

We watched travel man whilst we ate and then watched some TV, played some games and played more VR…We are definitely addicted to VR!

Curtis’ Day

We got our walk in this morning before work and then Curtis started his day.

Curtis was able to get some admin sorted and then he had some tickets to complete.

After these tickets, he started looking at some of the tickets that his team had automatically created with relation to the last time the laptops have been connected to the company network.

Curtis sorted through these for a lot of the day and removed any that weren’t required.

Curtis had a team meeting in which they had to discuss projects and ensure they were planned out correctly. This was his only meeting of the day!

As mentioned, he looked through the automatic tickets and helped a few people out in the afternoon and then ended the day with 30 minutes of reading.

Kim’s Day

This week is the second to last week of the company wide meetings in the morning and it was a shorter meeting too! Kim was due to have a hack team meeting after it, but because the hack day has been delayed, they cancelled the meeting and will revisit in in a few weeks.

After the meeting Kim set up her donut catch ups, she had been lazy and didnt set one up for her last person and everyone has been allocated new people and Kim has been paired up with the big boss of the company! So Kim organised the older one and reached out to the bog boss for their catch up, she and the PA organised it and set everything up!

For the rest of the morning Kim worked on a few things here and there, updating lists that she has and going through her mailboxe to tick off all the older items.

After lunch Kim resent out the weekly social catch ups to go into mid may and move the UKs to a better time. She also decided to invite everyone to all of the social catch ups, that way people can dip in and out when they want and people from across the time zones can chat!

Kim worked on a few quizzes in the afternoon and finished her day with some scheduling!

Shop Again, Workout & Chicken Cobb Salad

Once we finished work, Kim went to the shop to get a few things she forgot yesterday.

When she got back, we did our usual workout which felt really good and then Kim made a really tasty chicken Cobb salad.

Kim also made a vegetarian chilli after we finished eating, in preparation for tomorrow!

We played some Need for Speed and then watched a bit of TV, but it was already quite late by this point, so we didn’t stay up much longer.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was the only one of us working today, due to Kim having the day off as her company has a UK office and they have today off, so Kim does too!

Curtis had a meeting right at 09:00 with his team to discuss about the projects for the last 2 weeks and then after that, Kim was up and we went for our walk around 10:00.

We did our usual walk and then when we got back home, Curtis started working on a SharePoint site which he accidentally spent a couple of hours on, but it was worth it in the end and he got some really good feedback on that.

After lunch, Curtis had a meeting with his team which ended up being very short and then after that meeting he had a project meeting.

Curtis spent the last 2 hours of the day doing tickets and doing some training.

Kim’s Day

Kim got to sleep in a little and then once she got up she went for a walk with Curtis.

Once Kim got back, she got showered and ready to head out to the shops!

Kim was out for around 2 hours, heading to a variety of shops she needed to go to, including the drug store, supermarket and a couple of other stores.

Once Kim got back, she led in bed and watched some of the Babies Netflix show.

Evening

We did our workout and Kim did some stretching and then we did some laundry.

For dinner, Kim made tomato and mushroom with spaghetti and it was excellent!

We watched the first episode of The Mandalorian and then some other shows, including finishing Borderliner.

We played a bit of Need For Speed and then headed to bed.

Neither of us slept very well last night, so we’re hoping for a good night’s sleep.

Curtis’ Day

We didn’t go for a walk this morning, so Curtis got to sleep in!

Curtis had a meeting at 09:30 with his team and 1 other person, to get team specific feedback on a survey the team had answered.

After that, he had his general team meeting, followed by 2 project interview meetings.

That was already the morning done and we went for a lunchtime walk.

Curtis’ afternoon was all tickets, which took up his whole afternoon which was good.

Kim’s Day

Kim hosted the midweek catch up, it was great to talk to a few people, some who hadn’t joined before!

She then spent most of the day working on the presentation. She has made a cool theme and designed the slides around that. She took some time to get some information on there, make sure the slides work and tried to make it as interesting and captivating as she can.

Midway through the morning she had a department catch up, it was so nice to see people she hasn’t seen for weeks!

For the rest of the day Kim did the slideshow. She also did a little scheduling and towards the end of the day she started to read a document that her colleague sent over, but she has made that a future Kim problem, it wasn’t something to start at the end of the day!

Homemade Workout

We did our homemade workout, which was our favourite elements from the workout we had been doing, but all put together in the style we wanted.

This was great!

Kim did a few stretches and then we did the cleaning for the week.

After the cleaning, we had leftover vegetarian spaghetti bolognese, which was terrific.

After dinner, we played some mini sticks for a while, and then played some Need For Speed, followed by a bit of TV.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got right to work after our walk and breakfast.

Curtis had a meeting at 09:30, but this was just with a team member regarding a project.

After that meeting, Curtis had his team meeting, followed by completing some tickets.

After that, he had another project meeting which was very useful.

He had a catch up with the Project Manager for the project and then had lunch.

After lunch, Curtis had a 1:1 and then did some tickets and some training for the rest of the afternoon.

Kim’s Day

After the company meeting Kim joined a meeting with her hack team to discuss the plan. It looks as though they have decided on a plan, Kim is on presentation so she has taken on the PowerPoint. Kim is not entirely sure what is going on but she will help as much as she can!

Kim then did a little scheduling and other smaller tasks for the rest of the morning.
After lunch Kim updated the cribbage scores and held an open game of Skribbl for people to join. She is trailing having games for people to drop in and out of once a week, next week she is thinking Taboo! Kim loves the fact that she is able to put events on virtually and give people a place to hang out and switch off for a bit.

For most of the rest of the afternoon Kim worked on the Easter quiz. Towards the end of the day Kim had an idea for the first slide of the PowerPoint, so she put it together!

Back To Pole

In the evening, Kim went out to pole!

Kim decided to rent the pole studio this evening, and it was a great decision. She walked up, avoiding the busier streets and was let into the studio. Kim only rented it for an hour, but it was amazing to just play and enjoy dancing and listening to the music. It did Kim the world of good to have a little normality back. She even spoke to another person (from at least 2m away) Very exciting stuff!

We did our workout when Kim got home and then Kim did some stretches.

We took out the bins after Kim’s stretches and that was followed by a delicious dinner!

Sweet Potato Salad

We made a sweet potato salad for dinner which was SO GOOD! Light yet delicious.

We finished up with dinner and did the usual…playing some games and watching TV.

Curtis’ Day

Post morning walk, Curtis got showered and was actually very awake and ready to start the day.

He did his usual admin and then did a little more admin which is something exciting, which should come to fruition in a couple of weeks!

After that, Curtis did a ticket or two and then had his team meeting.

Just after the team meeting, Curtis had a project interview, followed by another!

After that, he got a couple more tickets done and then had another team meeting.

Curtis had lunch with Kim and then had another project interview meeting.

After that, Curtis got some admin done and a couple more tickets, before finishing for the day.

Kim’s Day

Kims company is doing a hack day soon and her team had their first meeting about it today. She isnt entirely sure whats going on, but she is helping with logistics and having a great time! The rest of the team thing we have a good idea, so Kim is happy with that!

After that meeting Kim sent out a company wide email to notify people that there is a bank holiday coming up. She also started on some scheduling for a different role and after she had done yoga she realised that a few had been messed up. Kim took a look into it and couldn’t figure it out, so she had some lunch and came back to it after, then she was able to find the issue, fix it and reach out to people to give them the correct times for their phone screen!

Kim updated the cribbage tournament status page with the results from todays game.

She then cancelled the social drinks for Friday and drafted ip a few communications for challenges and games for people to play.

Mini Sticks, Workout & Splits!

We played a bit of mini sticks and then we got back to our workout!

We liked the workout today, it felt good.

After that, Curtis was done with exercise but Kim continued!

She had a splits training class online, which really helped her and it was the same company she does pole dancing with, so it was good to support them.

We had the remainder of our roasted vegetables for dinner and watched some TV.

We played Need For Speed, probably for too long, and then watched some more TV.

Curtis’ Day

We completed our daily morning walk and then Curtis had breakfast, showered and started work.

He had a meeting with his team to go over some project stuff which lasted 1 hour.

After this, Curtis did some tickets and admin and then some project work.

In the afternoon, Curtis had a quick 15 minute call with the whole company to test if Zoom would handle it fine and then he had lunch with Kim.

Once finishing lunch, Curtis had meetings for 1.5 hours and they were productive project meetings!

After those, Curtis got some tickets done and then the day was over.

It went really quick for Curtis!

Kim’s Day

Kim set up the teams for the online cribbage tournament and worked on getting a game set up. She had to updated the template of the invites too!

She then started looking into the process of scheduling for phone screens for a teammate.

As it had been a while since she had helped with that side of things they set up a call so her teammate could explain everything and show her the changes to the website.

Between setting all that up and the meeting Kim joined in with yoga. It was so much fun and another employee had their whole family join in from the UK! It was great!

After the meeting Kim spent most of the afternoon setting up phone screens. She also reached out to a couple of vendors to discuss plans for the next few weeks and months!

9 Years Together!

We have been together for 9 years today! Crazy!

To celebrate, we ordered some pizza, going old school with what we used to do, which was get pizza and watch some TV, so that’s what we did! But we did do some working out and stretches before hand, so it’s not all that bad!
