Place 72 – Day 176: Vancouver, BC – Kim Needs Glasses!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was up and into the office early to get the boardroom and conference room setup for a whole company meeting. Curtis just had to check that everything worked, do some testing and get a few other things setup.

The meeting went on for 1.5 hours and then Curtis had another meeting right after and then after that he had yet another meeting!

After all his meetings, Curtis got some tickets done and then had some lunch.

After lunch, there was just a couple of hours left of the day so he used them wisely and got a few more things completed.

Curtis left the office and walked home.

Kim’s Day

In the morning Kim worked on one of the new offices floor plan and spent some time moving people around to sort a room booking for someone.

At lunch Kim went to the opticians and had an eye test done. It went well but Kim will need reading glasses so soon she will be on the hunt for a pair of glasses! She also received a referral to go to the doctors in regards to the migraine she had back in September. Kim also had her eyes dilated for the exam and that was a wild ride!

As Kim couldn’t see all that much when she got back to the office she had some lunch and then cut up some fruit, carefully.

Kim spent some of the afternoon rebooking the meeting room from the morning as the booking is for March and not February.

The rest of the afternoon Kim worked on making a report for the catering requested since she started. This meant Kim went back through emails and messages and logged a the requests.

Evening

The evening was pretty eventless for Curtis. He just played some games and watched some videos.

The class Kim went to was good fun, she was only able to get one of the two moves but it was a great challenge!

Kim had an hours break before the open pole session so she relaxed in the reception area.

It’s often hit or miss with open pole and Kim, sometimes she manages a few good things and other times it is a total wipe out! Tonight’s training was brilliant.

She trained in a move from months ago and was even able to incorporate it into a combo. She was also able to practise moves she wants to use in her routine, which was brilliant!

Place 72 – Day 175: Vancouver, BC – Power Outage & ThinkTank Decommissioning

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and there was an issue with the Regina office’s power, meaning a lot of things were not working!

Curtis and his colleague, as well as 2 others from the office, went over to Gastown to visit the think-tank which the company is getting rid of.

There, they removed all of the IT equipment, TVs etc, and packed it all up.

This only took about 2 hours, which was a little quicker than expected, but they managed to get back in time for a debrief on the issues that had happened that morning.

After lunch, Curtis had a meeting regarding a software application to see what can be done from his team to assist.

After this, Curtis just got some tickets completed and then headed home.

Kim’s Day

This morning Kim took some time to look into courses to see what is available for her to take.

She then had a project meeting and they talked about where they got up to. It’s all going smoothly and is on the right track. After the meeting Kim added links and made changes here and there before redoing one of the floor plans and starting a plan to redo another, before starting a new floor plan for a different office.

During the work on the project Kim and her colleague had an impromptu meeting to go over the project, a few social things and a plan for the next few months. It was a really god catch up.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim worked on setting up things for a few social events that are coming up. She drew up some costs and looked into where everything would be bought from for each office.

Evening

Kim went out to do her energy exchange and then went to the drug store on the way home. Curtis watched the leafs game during this time.

Once Kim got back, we had some dinner and watched some TV.

Curtis has to be up early tomorrow as there is a meeting happening at 09:00 so he wants to be there before to ensure everything works as expected.

Place 72 – Day 168: Vancouver, BC – Dogs!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and right away someone grabbed him to assist with a visitor’s guest WiFi connection.

The fix was actually not that difficult, but it took Curtis and his colleague 30 minutes to realise what the actual issue was. Curtis’ coffee went cold whilst he did this too!

This quick start to the morning threw Curtis’ day off, so it took him some time to catch up.

Curtis had an onboard to complete, but before he could do that, he had a meeting with a potential software provider, so once he was done that, he got on with the onboarding.

The laptop was an absolute pain, so that took him some time, but he finally got it done and then had some lunch.

After lunch, Curtis caught up with some ticket work and did a few other things, such as reviewing policies and also some training for some new software.

Curtis met Kim and walked home.

Kim’s Day

Kim did a lot of the Wiki project throughout the day. The other things that cropped up were amazing!

Someone brought their bermesedoodle in and he was VERY well behaved and handsome. Another lady and her husband bought her two month old in a few times throughout the day so Kim had multiple cuddles and it was brilliant!

Some catering came over lunch and it looked amazing, so Kim spent some time setting that up and putting the fridge in the meeting room.

In the afternoon Kim popped across to the shop with her colleague and they picked up some flowers and decaf coffee as the coffee is the one thing that Kim forgot to order ahead of time!

The rest of the afternoon Kim was working on the Wiki project where she sorted through lots of old information to condense it down.

Easy Dinner

We got home and Curtis watched hockey. Kim then had to go out to do her energy exchange, so she walked up there and got a hot chocolate on the way!

Kim got back home after this and we didn’t know what to eat, so we just had sweet chilli chicken with rice and dumplings.

We watched some TV and went to bed pretty early. We were both feeling sleepy today!

Place 72 – Day 166: Vancouver, BC – Plant Based Spaghetti Bolognese

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ Day was a very busy one!

Curtis had his normal brief team meeting in the morning, but was so busy before hand that he didn’t manage to even plan his day (which is what is discussed in the meeting).

Curtis didn’t stop being busy after the meeting, helping a couple of people around the office but also in other offices.

Curtis started to write up a policy, which he actually did for most of the afternoon, and then got some feedback from that which meant he had to do some further research.

Curtis left and walked home, hitting every light perfectly and was able to get home in about 25 minutes!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by catching up on emails from over the weekend and then she went into a meeting about the Wiki project.

They went over the full plan and most of the required bits have been done.

After the meeting Kim made up some business cards and did a little more administrative work on the project.

After lunch Kim ordered some flowers and then had a quick catch up with a colleague for what the plan is over the weekend and where they will need support.

Kim spent the rest of the afternoon working on her Vancouver office floorplan and made great improvements to it. It’s not quite finished but it is a lot more useful and makes far more sense!

Hockey’s Back

Hockey was on again tonight, starting at 17:00, and it hasn’t been on for over a week as there was a break for the all-star game.

Curtis was happy it was back and was able to watch the whole game when he got home. The Leafs won, too, which was a bonus!

Kim got back home from work and relaxed until hockey was finished and then we made dinner.

We had plant-based mince meat in a spaghetti bolognese as Kim wanted to give it a go.

We watched some TV and just chilled out.

Place 72 – Day 212: Vancouver, BC – Charity Laptop Auction

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and had to fight with him Outlook just to get it to work, which took up about 15 minutes of his morning!

After that, he started setting up a new user that will be based in Denver. This also included setting up the laptop remotely, so that took quite a bit of the day.

Curtis’ whole team had a meeting with a vendor to get onboarded onto the software which the team are making a switch to.

After that meeting, Curtis was asked a lot of questions regarding the charity laptop auction that started yesterday.

Curtis’ company is allowing people that work at the company to bid on old, unneeded laptops in a silent auction, with the proceeds going to charity. Due to this, Curtis had to answer a whole host of questions about it.

Curtis’ afternoon was filled with the tickets he was unable to get to, as well as helping people with their migration as they hadn’t done it yet, but it’s due tomorrow!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by putting together a final fridge clean out of the year, it was a very silly sign and she is very proud of it.

Kim then went to the post office to send a letter quickly, it was great to get out of the office in the morning. When she got back she arranged catering for a colleague to arrive on Friday.

Kim then spent a while fixing up some forms. She took one apart and made it into 2 forms, making each form easier to process and read. She also updated the internal website with these forms so they are nice and easy to find!

It was then suddenly 2pm so Kim nipped out to grab some lunch, as Curtis said he was having mexican Kim decided she wanted tacos too, so she popped to tacofino and had some lunch!

After lunch Kim cut up the melon for slices and also made a fruit salad. She then spent the rest of the afternoon chasing things and adding to the holiday party decorations, they are coming together nicely now!

Helping at Pole & Hockey

Kim went right from work and took the train back home to get the car.

Kim was helping out at pole dancing today, again, so she drove out there to help.

Curtis got his gear ready for hockey and then when Kim was done and got back, we went right to the rink.

Kim went to Winners whilst Curtis got changed and bought herself a dress!

Curtis’ hockey game was another close one, with back and forth goals!

Curtis’ line got the 1-1 equaliser and then his team got the 2-1 goal!

The other team tied it and then scored with 2 minutes remaining to make it 3-2.

Curtis’ team pushed and also pulled the goalie for an extra skater, but were not able to get that extra goal.

Certainly a fun one!

Place 72 – Day 207: Vancouver, BC – Lunchtime, Gametime

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a busy start to the morning, having to help a whole company (that work within his company) setup their respective office boardrooms for a company wide meeting.

After that, Curtis spent the morning doing ticket work, and a small amount of project work, hoping to finish up a project soon.

Curtis’ team had a meeting at 13:00, which was to agree on projects to take on for the upcoming 2 weeks.

This meeting went on for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, which Curtis had lunch after.

After lunch, Curtis was able to get his project finished and start another project, which was a big success!

Kim’s Day

Kim got in and started on the shopping orders for the other two offices right away. She put all the orders together but ran out of time before her meeting room booking to actually place the orders. She really didn’t want to rush them and make a mistake.

Kim collected everything she needed for starting the table decorations and took them up to the meeting rooms on the 25th floor.

As she was spray painting Kim decided to go up to the roof so she can work in a meeting room wity a door that can open and allow fresh air in.She had the idea of using parts of the beautiful bouquet of flowers that Curtis got her for her birthday. She dried out the leaves and some petals and spray painted them sparkly or silver. This will look so pretty on the night scattered around the food.

She then cleaned up and headed back downstairs in time to start setting up for the lunchtime game. Kim moved some furniture and set out the pens and answer sheets for the game. Kim’s colleagues grabbed the pizza while she was setting up too!

The game this quarter was Guess the Song – Festive Addition.

It was great fun to watch people try to figure out what was playing and then the debates during the answers were great! Kim would not accept George Michael, it had to be Wham, but she was not insistent on the exclamation mark. She totally made the rules up as she went! It ended in a 3 way tie so there was then a few quick fire rounds until we came to one winning team! It was great fun!

Kim got back to her desk and then went through all the other offices orders and triple checked them before she completed them.

After this Kim sent 2 packages vis FedEx, which is great as she was worrying she was running out of time.

As she had bought some extra stuff for the table centrepieces yesterday, Kim wanted to do a quick improvement of the snowman she has made. It is now much cuter and better looking!

Kim then finalised the shop for the Vancouver office. It won’t be arriving until the afternoon on the Monday as Kim has tried a different shop!

As she has to order some extra things that the usual place is unlikely to stock.

Kim then sent and replied to a few emails before heading home!

Late Hockey Game

Curtis got home and sorted his hockey kit out and chucked that in the car.

Kim got home and we had some food. Curtis made himself some (way too spicy) Piri-Piri chicken with rice and Kim wanted to have a potato instead, so she did just that.

We watched some TV and then left the house around 21:00 to go to Curtis’ hockey game.

We will update you on how the hockey game went tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 204: Vancouver, BC – Backpack Donation

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ day, whilst very productive, was pretty same, same!

He had to get 2 onboards setup, but they are to be based in Denver, which takes a bit more work.

Curtis had to get into the laptop that was in Denver, which always takes a while! He eventually got into both, but it did take up some time.

Curtis setup the user accounts, and had to do a lot extra with the phone setup, which took an hour in itself!

Curtis finished setting up both by around 15:30, when he had a quick meeting/chat with someone from the legal team with regards to a project he wanted to get started.

The rest of the day was Curtis catching up on tickets.

Kim’s Day

While Kim was setting up the catering for the day long meeting arrived, which is great because she had completely forgotten that it was arriving. Kim set that up in the meeting room ans then went to make a coffee pot. While the coffee was brewing, Kim organised everything to go with it, milks and sugars. As she went to take it through, she realised she had brewed a whole pot but didn’t put any beans in the filter, she just brewed hot water. Not ideal! She sorted it all out and took it into the meeting.

Kim spent most of the morning on ad hoc tasks like looking into ordering food and starting all of the weekly shops!

The cleaning supervisor came in again to check up on the things that had been listed, a fair few of the items had been done, so they had a walk around to check in.

After her lunch Kim and the marketing team headed to Starbucks! They took all 22 bags, 20 from the company and 2 donated from someone else, to Starbucks to go towards their 300 backpack goal.

Kim also reached out to the charity directly to see if they would accept donations at a later date as some people would love to help but aren’t in the office until later in the week, so fingers crossed they will be able to help out a little more.

For the social new hire lunch Kim is orgnaising the festive addition of Guess the Song. So she drew up the team answer sheets and made a brilliant playlist of Winter, Christmas and Hanukkah songs!

There also may or may not be a Disney song included also! She is now even more excited for the event now that the playlist is put together!

Kim then spent the rest of the afternoon drawing up the slideshow that captures the last year at EP, its coming together nicely and Kim has managed to make it nice and fully automatic so it will just run in the background!

Lock Problems

Before Kim went off to training, we went to move the tyres from inside the car to our storage locker.

When we got to the storage locker, we were unable to unlock it! The combination was what it has always been, but it just would not unlock.

After some time, Curtis managed to get it to open and it turns out that it somehow changed the combination, which is suspicious!

That meant that we could get the tyres put away, but it was just a strange situation.

Kim went off to training and Curtis relaxed at home.

Today was Kim’s first class in the next level up at pole training!

She was so nervous but realised that she had already learnt a few of the moves back in the UK, so it was a great lesson to start on.

Kim is really looking forward to the challenges that this class will bring! She loves the new teacher and has been in a few classes with her and having her as a teacher, so its a really easy transition into this class!

When Kim got back home from training, we watched a bit more TV and then went to sleep at a good time.

Curtis didn’t sleep well at all last night, for no apparent reason, so it was a good idea to sleep early.
