Place 72 – Day 997: Vancouver, BC – Nearly Done!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went right to the office this morning. He had to get a laptop setup and sent out for someone.

Whilst he was doing this, another laptop arrived that he was waiting on, so he got that setup too.

Whilst he was there, he got a lot more of the remaining office tasks sorted out. He needed to add more monitor arms to some desks as well as order more monitors and cables ready for everyone to return to the office.

There was a pile of e-waste for Curtis to go through and take down the asset numbers to mark those as ‘disposed of’ so the records are correct.

He helped out some people in the office with moving some things and he also got some tickets done, as well as answering some messages from people.

The second laptop Curtis setup was being a pain, so he had to start again at 15:30! He managed to get it done before he finished for the day, though.

Curtis walked home and picked up coffee for him and Kim as Kim needed to work late tonight.

Kim’s Day

Kim mostly just had meetings today! She started with an interview and then went right into a 1-1 with her teammate to check in about projects.

Kim then gave her weekly update and the company wide meeting before joining a quick call to discuss the interview earlier in the day.

Towards the middle of the day Kim had a chat with her other teammate to help them build some templates, structure and a plan around social media and recruitment.

In the afternoon Kim had a couple of recruitment meetings. The first was to discuss the new plans for processes and the second and third were weekly team check ins to discuss the open roles.

To finish the day Kim joined another interview and had a quick chat after. She then spent the evening getting through some admin work. It was great to really sit down and get stuff done!

Evening

Kim worked for the evening, so Curtis played games for most of the evening, along with getting some other things around the apartment done.

Kim took a little break and we had some gnocchi and a tomato sauce for dinner. We watched a bit of TV before Kim went back to working for the rest of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 989: Vancouver, BC – Leftover Curry

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting right away in the morning, a new hire’s orientation. They were a really nice person so that was good!

After that, it was all tickets for the day. He had a couple of meetings with people to help them with things and he had to do some admin and organisation.

Curtis is going to be at the office all day tomorrow.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a no meeting start to her day so she was able to use the time to work through some smaller quick wins, which was awesome! She then had a call with her manager to plan the week before joining a call with a colleague to see how they are doing.

Kim then had two 1-1s to see how a couple of new starters have been settling in and how everything is going. She then had a team meeting before having a team training session and finishing the day with more 1-1s with new employees and managers.

Evening

Kim got home from pole and we had some leftover curry from last night, which was still incredible!

We watched some TV and relaxed, but Kim did have to do a little more work, too.

Place 72 – Day 986: Vancouver, BC – Back To The Gym

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a much quieter day today.

He did some tickets and admin throughout the day, and did have one team meeting which he ran. He had to get updates on projects from his team and ensure it was all on track.

In the late afternoon, he did some team building with some people from his team and played some games with them until the end of the work day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a really great day and it was such a wonderful way to end the week! She started by waking up late and was really thankful for Curtis helping load the car up. She then drove to a nearby town to meet some teammates there to show them the laptop set up process.

Once she arrived Kim took all the laptops up to the board room in the office over a few trips. Luckily on the final trip Kim bumped into her teammate. Everyone got comfy in the room then Kim and her manager joined a call to discuss some IT stuff.

She then did a little admin before walking everyone through the laptop set up process. They all took a break to move their cars and then Kim had a quick chat to discuss a candidate, but most of the people weren’t able to turn up. So Kim took the time to work with her teammates to pack up!

They all then went to a nearby restaurant to meet two other teammates and it was so lovely! They all then left to head over to a nail salon for pedicures, ok the way Kim took a call to discuss the candidate that she wasn’t able to talk about earlier. She then had a wonderful break getting pampered and just relaxing.

Before everyone headed home a few people joined a call to discuss another candidate and the next steps there!

Evening

Kim got back home and we had some snacks pre-gym. We are finally able to head back to the gym after Curtis’ surgery, and having the time!

We did a 1 hour workout, but took it much easier than last time as Kim has been to pole a lot this week and Curtis didn’t take any breaks last time, and he really felt that!

After going to the gym, we undid all of our good work and ordered burgers for dinner! Curtis has been craving a burger since he had his surgery and now was his chance to have one!

We ordered from a place called Juice Joe’s which is a horrible name, but the burgers were really delicious!

We hung out for the evening and relaxed. We were meant to be going to an outside gathering with people from Kim’s work tomorrow but it’s meant to rain so that got cancelled.

Place 72 – Day 984: Vancouver, BC – Impromptu Dog Walk

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went right to the office when ready in the morning (with a stop at a coffee shop, of course).

He was planning to get a laptop setup and equipment sent out to a new hire, but when he got there he got asked to do a few things by someone there.

He got those things sorted and then the laptop he was trying to setup was being a pain, so that took much longer than planned.

He eventually got all of that done and sent out and then he headed home to have some lunch and get ready to help someone in the early afternoon.

Curtis finished his lunch and then helped the person that needed some help. He did this for about 30 minutes, which was luckily shorter than he thought it would take.

He managed to get some tickets and other things done in the afternoon. Another very busy day!

Kim’s Day

Kim had an interview packed day again! She started at 830 with an interview and the review. She then took a little break to have some food before joining the second interview for the day!

Over the middle of the day Kim had 1-1 chats with employees and managers to see how things are going as well as booking in some interviews for candidates, which was interesting and not something Kim has had to do for a while!

To get started in the afternoon Kim joined a recruitment meeting where no one from the other team joined! So she had s really nice hangout and chat with her colleagues. She then joined a meeting to hand off a project to a new director as they are now the lead on it and it’s one huge thing off of Kim’s plate!

Kim then joined her final interview of the day and had a quick meeting in regards to recruitment and social media before having a review of the interview.

To finish the day Kim had a connect with an exec team member to align on their new employees onboarding process!

Evening

Kim went off to pole and Curtis played some games, as usual. Kim stopped by her CEO’s house to pick something up and ended up going on an impromptu dog walk! She got to see a lot of dogs!

When Kim got home, we watched some TV and had some food, before Kim went back to do some more work in the late evening.

Place 72 – Day 978: Vancouver, BC – In Office Organisation

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went to this office when he was ready this morning. He woke up with pretty bad pain again this morning from his mouth, so he booked an appointment to see the dentist to get everything checked out.

He got to the office and emptied out the IT storage room. He then built a few shelves and put them in there, so there is more storage areas!

The next step was to start sorting everything into boxes. Curtis had to leave part way through this and head to the dentist.

Curtis actually had a bit of dry socket on one side so the dentist cleaned it up and put some fluid in there that numbed it and it had some meds in it too, which should help. It was good that Curtis went in today as it was just the start of the issue, so all should be good now!

Curtis got back home and did some work and then had some lunch with Kim.

Curtis had a quick team meeting that was meant to last much longer, but didn’t.

He finished the day completing an offboard which seemed to take a while!

Kim’s Day

To start her day Kim had a donut chat with someone she hadn’t met before! It was so great to say hello and get to know him. She then had a meeting to see where she can provide support.

Kim then joined a meeting to go over any questions a candidate may have about their offer. It was an enjoyable call and then right at the end the person let Kim and her colleague off the hook and confirmed that they would be signing and joining the company. It was such wonderful news and everyone was over the moon!

Kim then joined the weekly departments meeting, but she also built her new chair while some discussions were going on. After that call Kim joined the weekly recruitment meeting.

In the early afternoon Kim joined an interview and then the post interview chat to discuss next steps and then to finish the day Kim had a couple of calls with different teammates. It was a great way to end the day.

Evening

Kim went to pole dancing in the evening and once Kim got back home, we both had some food and then hung out for the rest of the night! We watched the Bo Burnham special, Inside, on Netflix which was good!

Curtis has tomorrow and Monday off, so nice relaxation time. Kim will be working a bit tomorrow but not Monday!

Place 72 – Day 970: Vancouver, BC – Rushed Equipment Shipping

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went to the office in the morning once he was ready as he needed to do a rushed equipment setup and shipping, so that it arrives this week.

Curtis got that done in the morning and helped a little around the office with a few of the upgrades that are being done there.

He walked home around 12:00 and picked up a coffee for us both. Once he got home, he was nice and busy answering questions and doing some tickets. This was what he did really for the rest of the day, with one meeting sprinkled in there.

After finishing work, Curtis played some games and then went to pickup some laptops with Kim.

Kim’s Day

Kim had three interviews today! She started her day with the first and had a quick review after before joining a check in with an employee finishing their first three months. Her second interview happened before the end of the morning and then she joined a call with a couple of her teammates to discuss the candidates and next steps.

Kim had a meeting with her other teammate to review an ordering process and align everything. She then had a meeting with a colleague to discuss the next few months and do some planning.

Before her final interview Kim had a great training session and discussion. It was so useful and interesting! She finished the day with an interview and a quick review.

Kim was super lucky that Curtis helped with the laptops! She joined a meeting when she got home and joined a really long, interesting and problem solving call with two wonderful colleagues!

Evening

Tonight is the last night for solid food for Curtis for a while! Due to this, we ordered some take out, so at least it’s a nice meal!

We are our food and relaxed. Curtis cannot eat or drink after 12:00, so he ensured he got enough water in him!

Tomorrow is surgery day… Curtis is incredibly nervous and he has to get an IV, which doesn’t work great with his fear of injections!

We’re sure all will go well.

Place 72 – Day 965: Vancouver, BC – A Chair Adventure

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had more of his project to do, which he did in any spare time he had today. He actually found more work to do for it, again, but he did make progress.

He had quite a lot of tickets to get done today, so he did those around his project and the meetings he had.

Curtis had a team meeting followed by a discussion about a project.

Once that meeting was completed, he got more tickets and project work done before having lunch.

After lunch, Curtis had a team meeting to discuss the previous set of projects they got done and then after that he did some tickets and part of an offboard.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a wonderful day today! She started with a recruitment meeting and was able to work with the exec team and recruiter on four roles to get them ready to go live next week! She then joined a planning and storm session with a big group of people and really enjoyed it. It’s so interesting to see how people want to tackle big and difficult hurdles.

Kim then joined a product demonstration and had a quick discussion after about it. She then joined a 1-1 with a manager to discuss how things are going with their new employee. To then finish her ‘in office’ part of the day Kim had a 1-1 with one of her teammates.

The first errand Kim tackled was to send a laptop out to a colleague. She met a teammate at the courier drop off, they sorted that out and then went to Apple to pick up an order, then they picked up coffee.

Kim dropped her friend / colleague at their home and went to go and pick up another colleague to run an errand with them. They then went to that person’s old apartment to pick up a deliveryof a chair that ended up at the wrong address and on the way home popped by the CEOs house to pick up a TV that was leant to them by Kim’s friend / colleague.

She then dropped her colleague and their new chair off at their house and then she popped by her friends house to return the TV. She also stopped by to day hello to the kittens. After all of that Kim went home!

Evening

Once Kim got home, we ordered ourselves some Chinese food and watched a quiet place II.

We relaxed for the evening and were very excited to do some sleeping tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 964: Vancouver, BC – Working Out Again

Curtis’ Day

Curtis continued the project he was working on yesterday at any spare moment today, but he did have some other things to do.

He had to do 2 contractor onboards, as well as some tickets. Curtis then had a couple of meetings throughout the day. One was a team meeting, the second a meeting with someone to discuss a potential project and some research Curtis had done and then the third was a one on one.

Curtis got more of the project done whilst he wasn’t in meetings and overall had a successful day.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with a three month check in to see how a new employee has been settling in. She then managed to have a quick call with her colleague before getting some admin done and then having a short surprise call with a manager. They both then joined the department updates meeting.

Kim went straight from the department updates meeting into the weekly recruitment meeting. Some great decisions were made and there are lots of great plans in process. That call overran but Kim had a spare fee minutes so jumped on the social call for a little while, guessed a charades round and left on a win!

After lunch Kim rushed back to get ready for an interview to realise that the interview was in 45 minutes rather than 15. So she used the time to chase the courier service for an update on the missing item.

Kim then joined the interview and it overran and she then joined a review call which took a while. There were some great conversations that spun off from the review and it was amazing!

In the evening Kim was able to get a fair few info pages up and running. She was so happy to get these things underway and set up for people to use!

Working Out!

Our gym in our building has opened now, and it must be booked by one household at a time. We could only book it for 10pm, but that was fine with us.

We had a small dinner before hand and then walked down to the gym to get some working out done, for the first time in a long, long time!

We felt pretty good after, but a little tired!

We relaxed for the remaining evening and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 963: Vancouver, BC – Plums!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis spent the entire day getting a project sorted. He was unable to get it fully done, but made some more really good progress on it.

For the project, he had to contact a few people and ask them if they still need something and if so, he had to talk them through what to do.

That was the entire day, as well as a few tickets here and there, some admin and 2 team meetings.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day earlier than usual and met a colleague who had load of plums for Kim to give to other employees! So she collected all the plums then grabbed a coffee on the way home. Once she was home Kim managed to get a lot of admin done! She sent out reminders and notifications to the company as well as added to info pages.

She then had a connect with two of her teammates to discuss a bug batch purchase of stuff over the next few weeks. It was really helpful to have other people check that what Kim thinks needs to be ordered is in line with what they think would be a good idea. For the rest of the morning Kim was on a call to discuss policies, plans and other really interesting things.

Kim then had a 1-1 check in with a new employee to see how their first few weeks have been for them. It was such a great chat. She then popped out to a shop to pick up a few things ahead of a really interesting meeting.

For most of the afternoon most of the company joined a workshop on diversity, equity and inclusion. It was a hard workshop and required a lot of inward looking but it is was also so beautiful. People asked questions, interacted with each other and really got involved with discussion, it was a really amazing experience. They also spent a lot of time discussing hiring and how that can be made more equitable, which was obviously fantastic for Kim’s team! Kim feels really lucky to work with such amazing people who want to learn, do better and be better. After the call there were several messages stating that the call was amazing and Kim was really pleased to hear that people know the value in workshops like these and are excited to attend.

Kim then drove into the office where she met people throughout the evening to give them plums! She also joined a meeting once she arrived to discuss hiring and changes there withing a department. It was such a brilliant meeting. She then stayed on the call with just her teammates and they went over some of the amazing points from the training call earlier in the day.

While Kim waited for people to pick up plums she managed to get the laptop that crashed partially set up. Once all the visits were completed Kim met Curtis to exchange laptops for the remainder of the plums and she dropped them off at someone’s house. When she got back Kim cooked dinner while on the phone with a colleague, sent over an estimation to the finance team and then managed to finish the laptop and arrange a pickup. It was a good end to a really good day.

Evening

We had homemade veggie lasagne for dinner and watched a little TV before sleeping.

Place 72 – Day 961: Vancouver, BC – New Glasses!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a quick onboard orientation in the morning and then joined his team to use a new software for 2 weeks!

Curtis had to setup accounts for another new hire and then he got right into a team meeting followed by some project work, which lasted really for most of the day.

After work, Curtis got the remainder of his Norwegian homework completed and thrn played some games whilst waiting for Kim to finish up work.

Curtis’ new glasses arrived today, so he can actually see well again!

Kim’s Day

Kim went to start her day with a meeting just as it got moved. So she was able to get some admin done. She then joined a meeting about a research project that will start over the next week or so.

Around mid morning Kim joined the recruitment meeting that was pushed from earlier in the morning. It was interesting and involved lots of interesting discussions. She then joined three different one week check ins before also having a one month chat. Kim really enjoys interacting with new employees and seeing how things are going.

In the afternoon Kim joined a team meeting before having a quick break for lunch. She then joined another recruitment meeting for a department to see the new roles they may want to hire for over the next 12 months.

Kim then had a a while to get a bit of admin done before she had a chat with a few people about another new role and how one team is likely to look and be shaped over the coming months.

In the evening Kim worked on setting up some laptops. Two worked fine and the final one has been a nightmare. Kim has totally set it up yet it still isn’t working as expected. The plan is currently to leave it overnight and try again in the morning. If that doesn’t work she will have to factory reset and start the whole process again!

Evening

We had a delicious dinner! Kim had a mushroom sandwich with caramelised onions and relish whilst Curtis made a steak sandwich with caramelised onions and relish. Delicious! We were still a little hungry after though, so we had some salad.

Kim finished up a bit more work and then we went out for a night walk.
