Place 72 – Day 214: Vancouver,BC – Holiday Party

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work quite early and that was good as he had a few tickets to get sorted, so that gave him time to do so.

Curtis had a few meetings today. One was regarding the helpdesk software that the team is moving to, and another was regarding an upcoming hackathon.

Curtis is helping out on a team with the hackathon, so he had to have a meeting to discuss their idea, which he thinks is great!

In the afternoon, Curtis did a few more tickets as well as some configuration setup of the new helpdesk.

He sat and had a few drinks with some colleagues before racing home to get ready.

Kim’s Day

Kim got to go to work a little later today, but her day was filled with setting up the venue for tonight’s holiday party.

Holiday Party

Curtis got ready for the holiday party and walked to the city, with a stop at a clothing store for Kim.

This blog is going up pre-party as it’ll be a late one, but Kim organised it so it should be amazing!

We will update you tomorrow with any interesting tid bits!

Place 72 – Day 210: Vancouver, BC – More New Moves!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and did his usual admin before his short team meeting.

A backup he had left over the weekend doesn’t seem to have worked, so he contacted a company to see if they can do what he’s looking to do, which has to be done by Thursday!

Curtis also did a few tickets, and a lot of new tickets came in today, too, so they took priority.

He did have a plan to start a project, but there wasn’t time for this anymore!

Curtis purchased some licenses today, as well as setup a replacement laptop for someone.

The day was pretty varied, which meant it went fast, too!

Kim’s Day

Kims days started with her ordering 2 sets of catering, one was pizza for today and another was sandwiches and salads for tomorrow.

She then spent most of the morning picking up random tasks and keeping on tip of emails. She did pop out at one point to pick up glue for the party decorations.

After lunch Kim saved a bunch of receipts she had lying around, which puts her way ahead of schedule in comparison to the past few months.
Kim had her biweekly 1:1 with her boss where they had a great catch up and went over some things coming up over the next dew weeks. During this meeting one of the hotels Kim works closely with popped by top drop off some chocolates as a holiday gift!

Kim spent a good amount of the afternoon catching up on voicemail messages. She also made up the main part of the little snowmen table decorations.

The fruit arrived towards the end of the day as Kim used a proper supermarket this time as they stocked a few extra things that Kim needed so it seemed silly to be paying for 2 deliveries.

More New Moves

Our humidifier died recently, so we had to get a new one.

Being an adult is fun and exciting.

We have to use a humidifier as we have the air conditioning from the hallway seeping into our apartment through some vents, so we have to have the humidity to counteract that.

At pole this evening, which was 2 hours long, Kim learnt a fair few moves. She wasn’t great at many, but she loved the doubles move that they tried and Kim nailed a move called hanglider which is cool!

Once Kim got back home, we watched a little TV and then went to bed.

We have a fun evening tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 206: Vancouver, BC – Interesting Network Things

Curtis’ Day

Curtis only had a few things planned for the day, but that soon grew!

A lot of tickets came in, which Curtis took and sorted for people.

Curtis had to deal with a possible security issue, which took up quite a chunk of the morning, but he did enjoy that!

Curtis went for lunch with two colleagues. They had Banh Mi and Curtis also got a vietnamese iced coffee.

After lunch, Curtis had a meeting, followed by doing a few bits of project work as well as discussing a new project with his team.

Curtis also did some network things with his colleague who is in town from Winnipeg. He learned a bit more, too, which is great and always welcome.

Kim’s Day

When Kim got in she set up for the day and sent out a reminder email about a building run holiday breakfast party happening in the lobby.

Kim and a few others went down to grab some food, there was also a live 2 person band playing festive songs.
When Kim got back she tool some time to compare 2 pizza places as she wanted to try ordering from somewhere new.

Kim picked a restaurant that she and Curtis have ordered from previously. It has a comparable price, larger pizzas, better quality and all the dietary replacements that are needed.

Kim then popped out to the dollar store to grab some cheap holiday chocolates and mini candy canes for the chocolate vase at her desk.

People were very happy when they saw it filled with festive treats! On the way back into the office she picked up a box of 6 chicken nuggets.

Kim then scanned and saved a few recipts before heading out on another little coffee date! This time they actually went for coffee!

Kim and another colleague went down to JJ Bean and had a wonderful chat about management, how they both ended up in Vancouver and languages.

When Kim got back she actually booked the pizza for delivery as she didn’t want to place the order earlier over lunch time, that seemed like a bad time to be placing a 16 pizza order!

Kim the popped out again to pick up some felt for the party declarations and picked up the multipack of beer and case of cider for tomorrows afternoon drinks.

Enjoyable Pole Training

Curtis got home and had no plans to do anything at all, so just sat around and played games!

Kim’s class tonight was great fun! She ended up learning a move she tried a few weeks ago. It took a few attempts but she finally nailed it on the last attempt! She also learned a very cool fake bendy move!

Kim got back home and we watched a YouTube video or two, followed by Silicon Valley.

Place 72 – Day 203: Vancouver, BC – Car Service

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and had a lot of emails!

He got messages from a few different people asking for some help, so he went off to each of those people and assisted them.

At his team meeting, he wore his new team T-shirt along with the rest of his team. During that meeting, the team surprised their boss by giving her a t-shirt as well which they had all paid for so she could have one too.

Curtis’ day was meeting heavy. There was a big debrief meeting after black Friday, so he had to setup for that as well as attend.

After that, there was another meeting for his team and in the morning he did have a brief meeting regarding some software they had all be trying out.

Curtis was able to try the new coffee that was added to the office collection today. They now have a (hot) nitro brew coffee on tap…one dark roast and one medium. It was incredibly smooth and delicious!

After lunch, there were no meetings, so Curtis had some time to get on with other things.

As well as this, he has a colleague that is visiting from Winnipeg, so he was chatting with him as well as learning some network things from him.

Kim’s Day

Kim left early and dropped the car off at a garage that is owed by one of the dancers she trains with. They had a lovely chat and then Kim took the bus into work.

When she got in Kim did a thorough check of the floor to ensure that everything was clean, as she had recieved a few comments lately about it. She took photos of things that she felt weren’t up to standard and sent them over to be looked at over the evening.

Kim then spent some time booking a meeting room and some catering for a meeting that is taking place tomorrow.

Kim then spent a fair amount of time going over invoices and making sure they are all sent to Accounts so she knows that they will get paid and everyone will be fed during the party.

In the afternoon Kim had a quick meeting with her teammate where they went over the plans for the next few weeks, as there is so much happening!

They have the quarterly new hire social lunch, a pot luck and the holiday party, all by next Friday. They agreed on ‘guess the song’ but a festive addition for the game for the social lunch, they went over what to order for the potluck and agreed to send out a chaser message to remind people and they went over the plan for the holiday party.

Kim explained the menus and rough plan for the room set up.
After the meeting Kim sent out the reminder and then spoke to people in regards to donating old brand backpacks to a Starbucks that is trying to collect 300 to make survival kits for homeless youths. The great thing is it was all approved and marketing even want to come along to take photos too! Its great for Kim to have the ability to help out in this way!

Kim then took 2 trains to go pick up the car. She left with a small list of things that certainly have to be done or may need to be done!

Chilli Chicken

We had some chilli marinated chicken in the fridge so it was time to eat that!

Curtis cooked it up with some more sweet chilli sauce, some soy & some ginger and we had that with rice.

After dinner, Kim went up to the shop to get a few things we needed.

We watched a bit of TV and then went to bed! Today went very fast.

Place 72 – Day 199: Vancouver, BC – Adding a Coat Rack

Curtis’ Day

Curtis didnt have much planned, but ended up having a very busy morning!

He had shook bwe interesting tickets which kept him busy and he had to investigate things, which he loves doing.

He had a 6 month check in and then had a meeting regarding a laptop auction his company is having for employees.

After lunch, Curtis worked on some revisions to a process he created yesterday, with the help of feedback from his team, and he got that all completed.

Curtis did some reading in the afternoon of his business analysis book and also had a beer with a colleague.

Curtis is in work from 06:00-14:00 tomorrow as he is being on hand for Black Friday.

Kim’s Day

When Kim got in she started with her emails as there were a few responses from vendors and hotels that she had been waiting for. She then called a hotel to confirm bookings for two people coming to the office in a few weeks.

As Kim was working away, she noticed a visitor had come in and then realised it was their hotel rep, a few moment later kims colleague walked around the corner and said she forgot to invite Kim to the meeting, but if Kim has time to come in. So Kim had an impromptu and important meeting where they ironed out a few things and made some great plans for the future.

After the meeting Kim spent the rest of her day organising still for the party. She made a guest list for the office party in Toronto that is happening tomorrow, finalised the food menu and drew up a drinks menu. It was a really productive afternoon!

New Coat Rack

We both got home and watched a bit of TV and relaxed.

Kim went out to the shop to get some pasta and also to buy a coat hanger from Homesense.

Curtis ate pizza whilst Kim was out and then when Kim got back, we put up the new coat rack/shelf on the wall, which looks awesome!

We got that done and then Kim had tuna and pasta, whilst we watched Silicon Valley.

We watched one more show after we both got showered for tomorrow and then went to bed a little earlier than usual so Curtis can be up for 05:00!

Place 72 – Day 197: Vancouver, BC – First Goal in Canada!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a day full of tickets!

He began the day doing some admin and responding to some emails and getting tasks ready for the day.

Curtis had to put most of what he planned to the side as he got a lot of tickets requiring a bit of work, too, not just quick things, but that was great as it got him thinking.

He did do some project work in the afternoon and then setup a laptop right at the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent a good portion of her morning chasing people, from restaurants, to hotels and DJs for receipts and other information!

She then spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon drawing up a menu for the holiday party. She even managed to shave some money off the original quote, which is a win!

Kim then had the weekly 30 minute meeting to go over the plans for the holiday party, most of it was spent talking about the menu.

After this, Kim had another meeting with a different teammate where she also went over the menu and they crunched the numbers to make a few changes, still under budget but ordering more food! They also went over a few other questions or concerns that Kim had.

Kim fully updated the menu, added the linen on to the order to be sent across to the caterer once the meeting finished. With this email she lister about 7 questions and planning points to the caterer too!

She then spent some time making up a new photo strip, it was way better than the previous so she sent that out to the vendor to be made up.
Kim also emailed the other vendors with various questions.

After chasing in the morning Kim eventually got all the missing receipts and sent off the statement for approval!

Hockey Again!

Curtis got home and got his hockey stuff sorted as he had a hockey game tonight.

Kim was still at work at this point, so Curtis did a few things around the apartment and then played some games.

Once Kim got home, we watched some TV and had some spaghetti bolognese leftovers before leaving to head to the rink.

Curtis’ team won their hockey game, after going down 2-0! Curtis got one assist after falling and accidentally hitting the puck to a teammate and then scored an empty net goal, but they all count! It was a fun one, ending 5-2.

Place 72 – Day 196: Vancouver, BC – A Photo Centric Day

Curtis’ Day

Curtis set out his plan for the week, which was a bit more project work as some more are ramping up now, which he is glad about.

Curtis had 2 back to back long meetings, so couldn’t get too much done.

The end of his afternoon was a little better as he stated a couple of projects and then finally got to do a bit of training, reading a book he has to read to get a qualification.

Curtis walked home with a stop off somewhere to run an errand, then it was cleaning time!

Kim’s Day

Kim decided to start her day with some breakfast so she sat down and had some cereal!

Kim then went through all of the messaging channels to save photos from the past year and put them in a social folder. Kim then started to make a slideshow for these photos as a 2019 highlight reel.

Kim then sent out a meeting invite that she prepared last week for a holiday pot luck. She made a fee changes and added cookie decorating to the invite and sent it out! She is looking forward to eating all the tasty food!

Kim then started putting together a design for the photo strip for the photobooth.

Kim then popped out for lunch, she dicided to go and get the hoi sin wrap that she had a few months ago. It wasn’t as smothered in sauce so it wasn’t as tasty for Kim but she really enjoyed it still!

When she god back Kim sent out some packages via FedEx and she ordered some more supplies.
Kim then went back and made some changes to the photo strip before heading home.

Kim walked home and drove to the doctors as she had a follow up appointment from the visit last week. Everything seems good which is great news!

Cleaning, Cooking & Training

We both got home around the same time and got started on the cleaning, until Kim had to leave to go training.

Kim’s classes tonight were tough but she really enjoyed them! She learnt her first flip off the pole and watched everyone else do a really cool combo.

The most life changing thing to come out of this class is that Kim has learnt to properly climb today! Up until this point Kim has been hulking her way up and using too much energy, she has now been taught to use her elbow and climbing is now effortless.

This distracted Kim and she just spent ages climbing and not doing the combo, which is fine!

Curtis made dinner for us both, which was spaghetti bolognese, which turned out pretty well! After he was done making that, he did the vacuuming and that was the chores done for the evening, so he just relaxed.

Once Kim returned home, she had some of the spaghetti bolognese and we sat down to watch a couple of TV episodes and YouTube videos before sleeping.
