Place 72 – Day 456: Vancouver, BC – Applications Moving In The Right Direction!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had no meetings today which was great!

He started the day writing a script for something which took a bit of fighting with but he got it working.

Once he did that, he did some other tickets and some other work and then all of a sudden, it was lunch time!

After lunch, Curtis did a bit more work and then watched the new restrictions be announced for the province, which means no more hockey for at least 2 more weeks and also a few more restrictions like mandatory masks in public indoor spaces, finally!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by replying to a few emails about the facilities project and then updating the offer letter she put together yesterday. She spent the rest of the morning catching up on other smaller admin tasks.

At midday Kim hosted the social lunch hour. Only one employee joined so they just had a little chat and it was lovely. After this meeting Kim joined the recruitment meeting and provided a few updates on things there.

Kim then spent some time working on a couple of other Job Descriptions before joining the weekly team meeting. In this meeting Kim went over the updates for the facilities project and a few other things.

Everyone from that call went on to another call to have a chat with someone who will be starting shortly. It was so lovely to meet her and learn about some of the handover process.

For the rest of the day Kim looked into the new COVID restrictions here in BC and also worked on the facilities project.

First Application Submitted!

After work, Kim made a really nice roasted chicken tray bake, which had a Mediterranean taste to it, with some potatoes and a salad. It was pretty tasty!

We watched TV whilst we ate and then after we got both of our applications completed for the PR!

We are still waiting on some documents to come in, but we are hoping we can start the application process without the documents at the moment.

We submitted just Kim’s profile first, and then it was accepted right away! Due to this, Curtis submitted his and was also accepted right away!

Curtis then applied for the provincial nomination, which we couldn’t do until the other one was done, this helps to get a faster turn around as we have jobs! This way, we can get our bridging visa whilst the permanent residence is being sorted. (And need the bridging visa for May!)

Kim then went out to get herself an ice cream and we then were able to relax and watch some more TV and play some games together.

Place 72 – Day 455: Vancouver, BC – The Results Are In!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a short team meeting at 09:30 and then mostly did tickets all morning until a 1 on 1 at 12:00.

After that, he had a long team meeting at 12:30, which was followed by lunch.

After lunch, Curtis did some more tickets but also some practice tests for his Business Analyst exam.

Speaking of exams, we got our results for our English exams.

Curtis got (out of 12);

Listening – 8

Reading – 12

Writing – 10

Speaking – 12

He was hoping for better on listening, but it was all fine!

Kim did much better, getting 12 on everything, which was awesome!

Kim’s Day

To start her day Kim had a call with someone in regards to her facilities project. Then she moved onto drafting up some key points in a Job Description she worked on today.

Kim then had a call with the CEO to go over what we are looking for in an application. Then Kim got started and transferred some of those notes into key points for the job. She had another quick call in regards to the facilities project mid way through the morning.

For most of the day Kim worked on the job description, doing some research and converting the notes into things for the job description. She also decided to write up a template for ‘about the company’ and ‘why its great to work here’ that can go on every job description, so that was good and will save Kim a lot of time going forward.

Kim then worked on another job description and an offer letter for another role. Very interesting and exciting day!

To finish the day Kim worked on a little more research for the facilities project. Looked a few new things, added to the spreadsheet and made lots of good notes.

Evening

We forgot to take chicken out for dinner, so we had frozen pizza for dinner instead.

We watched some TV and played some games, but we also got our applications started for our visas, which we can now do as we got our English results! We still have to wait on our certificates for our previous qualifications to be certified by Canada, and then we should be able to do the test of the process, if we can’t do so before.

place 72 – Day 449: Vancouver, BC – New Job, Many Meetings!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very informative company wide meeting in the morning and then after that he worked on the issue from yesterday which was a lot of waiting for things to download but it did fix the issue, which was excellent!

Curtis then did tickets up to lunch time and after lunching he did a lot of training which involved reading and doing some practice tests.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a busy day today, there were a lot of meetings and a lot to get done! She started her day by getting a few final things written up to present to her colleague and manager in a meeting during the morning.

In the team meeting Kim went over a few events coming up over the next few weeks and got some direction and clarification for those. They also went over a few other projects that are going on.

After the meeting Kim hosted a social lunch call where she had a lovely chat with someone. It was one of the first non work calls she had been on, so it was nice to just talk and get to know them.

After lunch Kim joined a HR meeting. She didn’t participate too much, but she did take notes of things that need to be done and let the people on the call know of the few changes coming up over the next few weeks and the new processes that will be in place. After this Kim joined another call that was discussing the vendor relationship with the company. Again, kim did a lot of listening and took some notes for herself during this meeting.

Kims colleague asked for a quick chat to go over a few things coming up so they had a quick call before they both joined an interview. Kim took notes during the interview and her colleague and another person asked most of the questions, but its great for Kim to be a fly on the wall to take notes, learn and know what to expect when she starts interviewing.

Kim had a short break before a quick call with a vendor to go over setting up the account.

For the afternoon and into the evening Kim worked on the invite, sign up sheet, budget and timeline for the winter event coming up. She sent that over to her manager to ensure she is happy with the costs and plan for the day.

Evening

We had sausages and mash for dinner with peas and gravy!

That was pretty much our whole evening.

We didn’t really do anything else! We watched some TV and played some games as usual.

Place 72 – Day 443: Vancouver, BC – No Work on Friday!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ day was busy!

Curtis spent most of the day doing project work, which went really well! He did this with some colleagues and got this pretty much all done.

Along with doing the project, Curtis had a couple of team meetings which went on for a while.

The day was very productive and he was very happy with how it went!

Kim’s Day

Kims new job is mainly a 4 day work week! She can use a Friday as an overspill if she needs to, but the goal is to be more efficient. So Kim had a lazy morning before spending a bit of time researching more PR stuff and a little more about a software for work.

As she had an open afternoon Kim organised to meet an old colleague and good friend for lunch. Kim picked up the lunches and they met near the office, but walked down to the seawall to sit in the sun and have a great catch up. It was so fun and wonderful to relax and spend some time together.

On the way home from lunch Kim grabbed some coffees and then watched a bit of TV to warm up from outside.

Kim had promised her friend that she would being some homemade cookies to lunch but she forgot. So Kim popped back out to drop off the cookies. On the way home Kim stopped at a couple of shops to look around.

Evening

We ordered some Indian food for dinner, we haven’t ordered from there for a while, so we were excited! It was a great curry as always, so that was excellent.

We played some games and watched some TV this evening. We have some plans this weekend so that should be good, providing nothing gets closed due to COVID-19!

Place 72 – Day 422: Vancouver, BC – Meeting All The Friends

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting fairly early about a potential security risk, and then he had a team meeting right after which was about 30 minutes long.

Curtis did some tickets and then had a team meeting about laptops and the current amount each office has in stock and what they want to do with them.

Curtis did a few more things in the late afternoon and then was done for the week!

Kim’s Day

Kim had a busy day today! She went and met a friend for a long, mask wearing walk and it was amazing. She hasn’t seen this friend in a few months and they had so much to catch up on. On the drive over Kim watched a massive train go past for about 10 minutes, it just went on and on! It was huge!

After the walk Kim stopped by the pole studio to see another friend where they had a nice 2 meters apart chat and that was also lovely.

On her way back home Kim stopped at the shop to pick up a few things and she got a rolling pin. Kim really enjoyed making the naan breads a few weeks ago and will now try skillingsboller, or Scandinavian cinnamon buns. They are Curtis’s favorite sweet treat when in Bergen, so Kim is really excited to try to make these while Curtis is at hockey tonight.

Evening

Curtis has a hockey game tonight, so we had some simple chicken pesto pasta for dinner and relaxed, and then Curtis drove out to hockey.

(As usual, the score etc shall be on tomorrow’s blog!)

Curtis should get home at a fairly decent time, so we will watch a bit of TV and relax before going to bed.

Yesterday’s Hockey Game

Curtis’ hockey game went well!

His team won 2-0, though he didn’t really do too much, offensively.

The team is currently 2-0!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a few meetings today, eith the first being a project meeting in which he had to make a flowchart of a process, along with a couple of colleagues.

After that, he had a team meeting and then another meeting not too long after which was for another project, just to discuss how to do the certain things for the project which was something Curtis hadn’t done before.

Right after that, there was a meeting to discuss current updates for a project.

Curtis did some tickets and admin in the afternoon.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim went out to coffee with a friend from her old job and it was amazing! They met at a coffee place near the office and both ended up having doughnuts and having a great chat and laugh!

Just after Kim left the catchup she got an email confirming an interview for tomorrow morning! Its for the role that she had a phone screening for last week and ts a role that Kim is extremely excited for, so fingers crossed!

On her way home Kim picked up a celebratory coffee for Curtis and herself. Then she had a quick lunch before researching the company a little more.

In preparation for potential interviews Kim found someone selling a few pairs of shoes that she liked the look of, so she went and picked them up. When she got there, the lady included two more pairs! So Kim got 6 pairs for $15! The few that don’t fit Kim will take to the thrift shop down the road.

On that success Kim decided to change up something about the apartment. When Kim picked out the bed that they currently have she didnt realise it was longer than the mattress and that the headboard was at a reading angle and really stuck out at the back. So Kim has been secretly annoyed at the bed for a while as it takes up more room than it needs and Kim keeps kicking it when she walks around. So she decided to get another new bed. She was able to find someone selling one that they have only had for a few months and wanting to sell it this evening. So Kim agreed and listed the current bed and has a buyer thats super local that wants it!

Evening

We had some pasta for dinner as well as some ceasar salad.

Kim then went out in the later evening to get another bed as we wanted a slightly smaller one. We have replaced our bed often, but we want to try and get one that fits our mattress perfectly.

Once Kim picked that up we chilled out for the evening.

Place 72 – Day 399: Vancouver, BC – Incredible Katsu

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting right at 09:00, which was company wide. It wasn’t massively interesting, but it was informative.

Curtis had a some more checkups to do and then he had a team meeting.

After the meeting, Curtis needed to order some items for the office, so he got those together and ordered.

For the rest of the day, Curtis did some tickets and also had a 1 on 1 meeting.

Kim’s Day

Kim slept in! She has nowhere to be and most people said to take it easy for a few days and rest up, so she is. She woke up and went through some really lovely messages from friends, family and old colleagues all offering support, love and advice. She felt very lucky today!

She took a few phone calls in the morning, one about her insurance and they went over what happens next and the other wad about the car. The garage found the issue so hopefully they should stop having problems when its all fixed up.

For most of the morning Kim did nothing. She reached out to people to see if they would endorse her on LinkedIn and that was it!

In the afternoon Kim sat down and started doing something productive. She reorganised her LinkedIn page by changing her experiences to read a little better and make a bit more sense. Kim also added in a bit of info that explains the employment gaps for her trips around the world and the roadtrip in America last year! Now she has no employment gaps. She made a few notes to update her CV with her latest job, but decided that thats a tomorrow job.

Incredible Katsu

We watched a bit of TV after Curtis finished work but we got hungry, so Kim made some homemade katsu chicken curry.

We had leftover homemade sauce from a while ago and Kim lightly fried the chicken.

Kim also made a vinaigrette for a side salad, which we had with it. It was really, really good.

We ate this and then watched some more TV, including The Russell Howard Hour (a UK comedy show) and some YouTube videos.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis and a meeting at 09:30 which was to show someone around some software and see if he can help them with any questions they had.

After that, Curtis had his weekly team meeting which lasted for about an hour and then after that, the day got crazy!

Curtis did constant ticket work until lunch time, and then after that he had a meeting with his team to talk about some survey responses and statistics.

After that, Curtis had a bunch more work to do and had to reach out to some people, as well as ensure he didn’t have any work left for during his vacation for the rest of the week.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by working on some emails she plans to send out when she gets back from her leave for the rest of this week. In the morning she also set up an ad hoc visit for someone to work from the office, a return for a laptop and sent out a gift card.

In the afternoon Kim set up a couple of hot desks, just in case someone wants to come in while she is away. Then its all set up and someone else doesn’t have to do it! Then for the rest of the afternoon Kim sorted her expenses.

Evening

Kim got back home as Curtis was just finishing off our baked potatoes for dinner.

We ate those and watched some TV and then we went down to 7-Eleven and Kim got an ice cream there.

We got home and Curtis ate the remaining ice cream we had at home and Kim ate her ice cream.

We did some packing to be ready to leave tomorrow and we got a few things sorted throughout the evening, such as vacuuming and ensuring all the dishes were done etc.

We aren’t up too early tomorrow and we have a few things to get done then we’re off for a brief drive!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ day was pretty busy!

He had a quick meeting in the morning to discuss some changes that need to happen at the office.

After that, he had a couple of team meetings. The first was his daily meeting and then after that he had a discussion about a few different things with his team.

He did some tickets and then after lunch he had a project meeting followed by his bi-weekly team planning meeting.

After that, Curtis had some free time but he did some tickets and also met a colleague outside the apartment to collect some keys.

After that, Curtis did an onboard but stopped part way through to meet Kim to take her bag home for her.

After he did that, he got back home and finished the onboard to finish up his day.

Kim’s Day

Kim took her call for the day from home. She had a great chat with a new starter in the UK and it was lovely!

Once she was in the office she had to slowly remember what it is she is meant to be doing on a day to day basis. She started off by cancelling the social events for the day as people had summer parties this week and no one signed up for the social talks. After that Kim sent out invites to all the social events going forward to all the new starters.

A colleague popped into the office to pick a few things up late in the morning. So Kim helped her with finding and getting the things she needs to her car. After that Kim worked on tallying up all the scores for the east and west coast parties to find the overall winners. It was a lot of copy and paste, but totally worth it.

Kim had two sets of visitors in the afternoon. Two colleagues came in to pick up items and one person dropped off their laptop. She helped with finding the furniture they need and getting it down to the loading bay.

Kim finally managed to get round to sorting the post from the past few days.

After work Kim booked in for a massage and it was so lovely! It felt very safe and clean. She wore a mask the whole time, it was optional, but Kim felt better with it on. As the facilities are currently closed Kim was offered a glass of wine! So she sat in the lounge area and just chilled out.

Evening

Kim went for her massage and on her way back she ordered some food.

The food took a while to arrive, but we ordered from a place called The Union which is a South East Asian place which sounded great!

We got some chicken gyoza which were just fine and Kim got Nasi Goreng and Curtis got the peanut noodle bowl.

Kim’s food was way too spice and just OK tasting, but Curtis really enjoyed his.

We watched some YouTube and Lucifer and just chilled for our Friday evening.

Place 72 – Day 375: Vancouver, BC – Vancouver Office Fun Day!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a quick chat in the morning with a colleague to go over something and do some testing.

After that, Curtis has a 1 on 1 which was quick, and then he had his daily team meeting.

When that meeting was done, Curtis had some tickets to do and then he had some lunch.

Once lunch was done, the afternoon was very quiet.

Curtis was able to get some admin done and he did a few tickets as well.

Kim’s Day

Kim went through and made some changes to the quizzes and added better answer options.

Later in the morning Kim and her colleague popped out to pick up some ice and snacks for the summer party later. They then had a quick check of a few questions and other things. Then her colleague had the great idea of making fun backgrounds using the plants in the office. So Kim grabbed all the plants and they both decorated them and they looked amazing!

Then the party started! Kim followed along with the cocktail making and made a lovely mojito. After that they went straight into the quizzes. Same for rounds, in the media, in the news, company history and our people. There were a few times where people werent happy that their answer didn’t get accepted or autocorrect changed it, but it was so fun!

Then into the evening a few people played a few rounds of jackbox before just having a chat. After that Kim made most of the our people quiz for the final party, she just has to add a few answers for 6 rounds, so thats nice and easy!

Evening

Kim was home late, again, as expected, but today we had some leftovers that we defrosted.

We watched a bit of TV again and then headed to bed.
