Place 72 – Day 338: Vancouver, BC – Pixel Buds

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ start to the morning was filled with admin and a lot of people messaging him questions and asking for help, so that took up his time until his 10:30 weekly team meeting.

The team meeting took an hour and then Curtis had new tickets to get sorted, as there were a lot that arrived during the meeting.

This took Curtis nicely to lunch time.

After lunch, Curtis was able to fix an issue for someone and then did some other work and admin which took him nicely to the end of the day.

During the day, Curtis received his Pixel Buds, his new wireless earbuds, which he is enjoying!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by handing out some post and then she joined a couple of colleagues in getting a coffee.

When they got back to the office Kim drafted and sent out some emails before making notes for an upcoming meeting. She also called a postal service to see if there have been problems delivering the post lately, but it doesn’t seem like there is.

Kim was due to have an hour long meeting with her colleague to go over some events happening over the next few months, but instead it lasted the rest of the day! Kim made a quick report just before the meeting and then they got stuck in. They spoke about vendors and each of their options, called a vendor, organised the budged, sorted the timeline of planning, arranged the day of events and made a game plan for the next few days.

After the meeting Kim drew up a schedule for the day of and made a guide for what each event is and how it will work. Kim also reached out to the vendors she had been talking to for further information. She then wrote up a to do list for tomorrow before heading home.

Teriyaki Chicken

Kim got home and marinaded some chicken in teriyaki and then we tried on some clothes that we got delivered.

We then took out the recycling and Kim finished off the dinner.

We watched some TV, played some mini golf and relaxed for the evening.

Place 72 – Day 303: Vancouver, BC – The Outside?!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did a lot of admin and tickets at the start of his day, but then had to pack up and head to the office!

The office is reopening with a lot of rules and restrictions as well as just a small number of people as of this week.

Curtis and his colleagues went in first to do the orientation and assist with some last few things around the office.

Curtis isn’t going back for a couple of weeks but wanted to help out.

It was a little strange for Curtis to be back in the office and everyone has to walk the same direction around the office which means it takes Curtis a long time to get anywhere!

Curtis did some more tickets and then had the orientation, learning what everyone can and cannot do and all the rules.

Curtis then helped fill some bottles with sanitizer, each person gets their own, and then he had a team meeting.

After the team meeting, Curtis cleaned the coffee urns which had coffee in them since everyone left…so you can imagine how disgusting they were!

After cleaning that, Curtis had some lunch and ordered himself something exciting!

After lunch, Curtis helped put up some tape around the office to shut areas. He then went to each desk that will not be occupied and put a ‘do not take’ sticker on each monitor just to make sure they don’t go missing.

Curtis left the office around 16:30 and walked home.

Once Curtis got home, he emptied the dryer and then Kim got back so we went right over to our old apartment.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent most of her day in the office, before she went in she caught up on emails and messages.

Once she was in the office Kim collected a few things that needed to be sent out and got them all set up. She then arranged a FedEx pickup and started to move onto the next FedEx package that needed to be sent out. Kim went to print the documents from the first package and it wouldn’t work, so while she was arranging the second package she called FedEx to send over the paperwork she needed. After and hour and a half of calls, speaking to 3 people she was told they couldn’t help and she would have to start again. So she resubmit the form online and went through the whole process again. She finally had them packaged up and ready to go.

Kim had a quick walkround with a colleague to check what needed to be done in the office and then moved some furniture around.

After lunch Kim set up a game of cribbage, this time its the final! Once of the teams is undefeated so that will be exciting. She then spent the rest of the afternoon making plans for the rest of the week and moving more furniture around.

All The Admin

We met with our old landlord to get our deposit back, but also had a long chat about the state of the world and everything that happening.

After we did that, we went and did the shop. We got a decent amount of stuff and popped to Canadian Tire too.

Today was the first time we had been outside in 2 weeks, so it did actually feel a little strange.

We got home and unpacked the shopping and then had more leftovers for dinner.

After that, we watched some comedy and some other TV and then went to bed.

We were very tired today as we didn’t sleep too great.

Place 72 – Day 292: Vancouver, BC – Homemade Butter Chicken!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a normal start to the morning. He was able to get some admin done but also had to answer some questions from people.

Curtis did a few tickets. Curtis helped get someone a license for some software, which took a bit of time to figure out how they want that setup.

Once he did that, Curtis got some statistics and usage information exported for someone, which also took some time as it is a bit of a mundain task, but had to be done.

Curtis got someone back up and running after helping them clear a lot of wasted space taken up on their laptop.

Once he did that, he got started with his newest project. He had to make a mock-up of a page but on 2 different platforms to see what looks best. This took the whole afternoon, but he did it!

Kim’s Day

Kim started tbe day by helping with one of the company wide calls. After this she spent some time working through some of the postal project she has ans she made a good amount of progress again, which is great.

She was then emailed by her manager to help with a quick task of finding the appropriate links for the list of sites she had. So Kim got that sorted and sent that back over. As a follow up to the meeting Kim update the Wiki and sent out an email for people to be able to find it.

Kim spent a lot of the afternoon working on the sales project. She managed to get one half of it done and thats great because she has really been neglecting it!

Homemade Butter Chicken!

Kim made butter chicken from scratch!

It was fairly simple to make, but very, very delicious! It didn’t take too long, she just had to marinate the chicken and then it was pretty much ready to cook.

Along with this, we made coconut rice and had some roti & poppadoms!

A great dinner made from scratch.

We watched some TV and played some games, but Kim has to be up earlier tomorrow so we went to bed early.

Place 72 – Day 228: Vancouver, BC – Plenty of Booze!

Curtis’ Day

We were going to go for a walk when we woke up, but right as we got outside, Kim realised she had a meeting at 08:00, so we went right back in!

Curtis did some admin and then some tickets before his team meeting.

After the meeting, another meeting he had got cancelled so he did some more ticket work and then finished off the morning with training.

After lunch, Curtis had a quick meeting with someone to show them how to do a couple of things and then did a bit of project work and research.

Curtis did some more training and then played some games with his team for team building!

Kim’s Day

Kim started the day with a week a midweek catch up that is open to all offices. There were a lot less people than last week, but it we still great to see people and have a chat!
After this, Kim joined the company wide meeting.

For some of the morning Kim worked on a few quizzes. She has a fair few ideas and it doesn’t look like this working from home situation will be changing anytime soon so she might as well add a few and use them as and when!

She also worked on her spreadsheet that logs the cribbage tournament. She made it easier to read and made the scoring sytem automated! She was very proud of this as she hasn’t used some of the formulas in years!

After lunch Kim joined on a catch up call with people in her team and who sit near by. It was great to see everyone and chat to them, she has missed them all!

Straight after this Kim watched the first game of the cribbage tournament and then updated the shiney new spreadsheet with the results.

Kim then spent the rest of the afternoon setting up games for in the future.

Plenty of Booze!

We did our workout which nearly killed us today!

After that, we walked up to the liquor store to get some wine, beer and pre mixed Moscow mules, just to stock up so we have plenty for any occasion.

We got back home and were hungry, so we had a big salad to start with and then leftovers from yesterday.

We watched TV and then played some mini sticks hockey at home, which was WAY more fun for us than it should have been, but was nice to get away from a screen for a bit.

Place 72 – Day 227: Vancouver, BC – No Queue?!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis woke up very awake this morning, which must mean he slept well!

We completed and our morning walk and then Curtis had a shower and some breakfast.

After breakfast, Curtis started work and had a meeting right away! He helped someone with some design work, doing some testing for them. It was also nice to check in with them and have a bit of a catch up.

Curtis then had a webinar about his helpdeesk software, which was a bit boring but did have some good information.

Curtis then got some tickets done and then had a wrap for lunch with Kim!

After lunch, Curtis did some tickets but for most of the rest of the day he looked into some project work for a project he has just started today.

Kim’s Day

For the rest of the week Kim has the early meeting again, so after that Kim went straight into scheduling to help her teammate.

Kim then started working on her next quiz and wrote up a few questions and did some research for it. This quiz is based around the TV show friends as that is another interest a lot of people in the company have.
At 1 it was go time on the Pokemon quiz and it went so well! People joined in, heckled and played along.

It was so much fun and at the end of the quiz Kim asked for themes and feedback so now she has other ideas of quizzes that people would want to play along with!

After lunch Kim spent her afternoon setting up the cribbage tournament. She managed to schedule a the first games for most teams and even a second game for some!

No Queue?!

We finished up with work and got back to working out!

We finished our workout, got showered and Kim did some stretches and then we did some cleaning!

We did the usual emptying the recycling, cleaning the counters and vacuuming.

After that, we went out to the supermarket to get a bunch more stuff that we need for the week.

We were expecting a queue as it’s been for the last week or so, but it turns out that there was no queue at all, which made it far easier!

We did the shop fairly quick and headed home for some dinner.

Kim made a terrific creamy chicken and mushroom pasta which was really great!

We ate that and watched some TV, by the time we ate it was already 20:00!

Place 72 – Day 222: Vancouver, BC – So Much Stretching

Curtis’ Day

After we went for our standard morning walk, we both got to working.

Curtis had a lot of meetings during the day, around 4 or so, and all were a mix.

One was for a project, one was the normal daily team meeting and another couple were getting some assistance from team members.

Curtis had a fairly quiet afternoon, but got some tickets done and then did a bit of training in the late afternoon.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with another company meeting, they are happening every morning other than Mondays!

After the meeting Kim went and took her her to a local ford garage, the power has been dropping mid drive. So its great to get it fixed. On the way back Kim even managed to pick up some toilet paper. So thats now something to get excited about apparently.

When she got back Kim did a little research into stuff like games for people to play and other activities.

On Thursday’s Kim has organised yoga, so she joined in on that.

For the afternoon Kim worked on her little projects, she started making a list of all the vendors, she worked on some stuff for the winter party and she worked on some of the first aid stuff. It was a very successful day!

So Much Stretching!

We finished up with work and then we did our workout! It was a tough one, but we got through it.

We did a bit of stretching after and then Curtis was done, but Kim did another hour or two of stretching!

She did some from an app she has, an hen just as she finished her stretching Kim got a text saying she should join in on an exercise livestream. Tantra, the pole and aerial studio Kim goes to is holding online classes.

The class today was sexy flexy and it was amazing! It was a good stretch class that also leans into the basics of some dance moves. Now Kim usually hates stretching but she loved this class. It was absolutely amazing, interesting stretches and it was fun!

We had the last of our leftovers for dinner and relaxed for the last few hours of the day.

Place 72 – Day 205: Vancouver, BC – Homemade Lemon Chicken!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very busy day, especially compared to last week.

There were a lot of tickets coming in all day and Curtis took as many as he could to keep himself busy.

Curtis had a team meeting at 13:00 which lasted an hour.

Once that was done, Curtis had some lunch.

Post lunch, Curtis went to ask someone a question and ended up staying with them for an hour, testing some user experiences and answering questions on it, as well as giving opinions.

Curtis finished the day up with some admin and some final tickets.

Kim’s Day

Kim started a new Wiki page today, she isn’t sure about this one so she didn’t put too much time into it, but she did put an overview in and make a few notes. The delivery then came in so she put away all the shopping.

Kim had a meeting with her manager and it went really well! They went over a few things about the office that Kim is planning on moving around and spoke about events that will be coming up. After this meeting Kim spent the rest of her morning saving invoices.

Before lunch Kim put the dishwasher on because her colleague ordered new bowls and forks!

A colleagues nephew was in the office and was there to help out, Kim had been asked if there were any administrative tasks that he could help with. She had to remove all of the old and unused table legs from the storage room and chuck them in a recycling bin. It took one trip with two trolleys to empty all the legs from storage and now there is so much more room!

Kim spent a bit of the afternoon setting up a gaming console that she found and answering emails.

More Mice!

We got back home after work and saw a mouse scuttle past in front of us as we walked in!

We couldn’t find it anywhere, so assumed it went back to its little cave.

Kim walked up to the shop and whilst she did that, Curtis got his hockey stuff sorted for tomorrow’s game, as well as fitting his new hockey visor which finally arrived…it was the perfect size and fit!

Homemade Lemon Chicken

We made homemade Lemon Chicken with homemade egg fried rice.

This was incredible!

The sauce was incredibly sticky and flavourful and then chicken was friend to perfection.

We will be making that again!

Kim went out to the hot tub and then hopped in the shower.

We watched a little more TV and then went to bed early.

Place 72 – Day 175: Vancouver, BC – Power Outage & ThinkTank Decommissioning

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and there was an issue with the Regina office’s power, meaning a lot of things were not working!

Curtis and his colleague, as well as 2 others from the office, went over to Gastown to visit the think-tank which the company is getting rid of.

There, they removed all of the IT equipment, TVs etc, and packed it all up.

This only took about 2 hours, which was a little quicker than expected, but they managed to get back in time for a debrief on the issues that had happened that morning.

After lunch, Curtis had a meeting regarding a software application to see what can be done from his team to assist.

After this, Curtis just got some tickets completed and then headed home.

Kim’s Day

This morning Kim took some time to look into courses to see what is available for her to take.

She then had a project meeting and they talked about where they got up to. It’s all going smoothly and is on the right track. After the meeting Kim added links and made changes here and there before redoing one of the floor plans and starting a plan to redo another, before starting a new floor plan for a different office.

During the work on the project Kim and her colleague had an impromptu meeting to go over the project, a few social things and a plan for the next few months. It was a really god catch up.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim worked on setting up things for a few social events that are coming up. She drew up some costs and looked into where everything would be bought from for each office.

Evening

Kim went out to do her energy exchange and then went to the drug store on the way home. Curtis watched the leafs game during this time.

Once Kim got back, we had some dinner and watched some TV.

Curtis has to be up early tomorrow as there is a meeting happening at 09:00 so he wants to be there before to ensure everything works as expected.

Place 72 – Day 162: Vancouver, BC – Roasted Peppers & Cous-Cous

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very busy day! He did an onboard for half the day and then setup the desk for that person too.

Once he did that, and whilst he was doing that, he kept getting questions left right and centre from people, as well as tickets, so he had more than enough to for to the day.

He had a call with someone to try and get some stuff fixed for them, which he was able to!

Curtis left and was able to meet Kim at sportchek where she was returning an item.

Kim’s Day

This morning Kim worked on the Wiki project and cleared up in the office. With the Wiki Kim really made good process on the project and put together all the things she had to do! She also tried securing the shelving unit to the wall, but had no luck.
Kim sat with her colleagues for lunch. After this, Kim spent a while trying to figure out why the xbox isn’t working, but with no luck!

Then in the early afternoon went out with two people to get a hot chocolate as Vancouver is currently having a Vancouver hot chocolate festival.

Kim then placed the food order for next week and then continued the tidy up by folding up a bunch of unused, branded tops.

Roasted Peppers & Cous-Cous

We got home and Curtis got some cleaning done, whilst Kim went out to training.

Tonights class was brilliant. Kim finally nailed a move that she has wanted to do forever! Its not even a difficult move, she just couldn’t get her head around it. The main focus of the class was a beautiful and brilliant combo that Kim really enjoyed.
After class Kim went to home depot and a supermarket to get stuff for work and then dropped it off at work!

After training, Kim had some stuff to buy for work, so she went to get that and then had to also needed to do a couple of other things, all of which she got done so she was very happy with that!

When Kim got back home, we had roasted garlic and tomato cous-cous inside grilled peppers…delicious!

We ate that and then watched some TV.

Place 72 – Day 161: Vancouver, BC – Moving The Coat Rack

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got a lot of ticket work done but nothing much more beyond that.

At 14:00, he walked with a couple of people to the think-tank, which is a space for off-site meetings and working etc.

The company is getting rid of this, so Curtis had to scope out the area and see what needs to be taken down and moved back to the office, so he did that for around an hour.

He got back and did some more ticket work and then was able to leave at a good time.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent a lot of her morning going through emails and setting up meeting room bookings. After this, Kim went through and reconciled some transactions.

In the early afternoon Kim went through and set up three different catering requests and also drew up a plan for the large pizza order she will place the following day to arrive on Friday.

Kim then swapped the bookshelves around from her desk and the kitchen. This will give Kim more space at front desk and make the book swap and games shelves look less empty.

Kim then reorganised and tidied up around front desk.

Moving The Coat Rack

We got home and Kim had decided it was a good idea to move the coatrack we have on the wall, for 2 reasons. The first being that it was too close to other things and then second being that we believed it wasn’t in studs, just in drywall, which isn’t as safe.

We moved that when we got back home, or at least started to, and then Kim went out to help at her pole studio.

Once she got back, we finished sorting it out and now it’s in the perfect location and safe!

We had some time in the evening so we watched some TV.
