Place 72 – Day 872: Vancouver, BC – Our Own Offices

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ day was meant to start with an onboard orientation, but his Zoom wasn’t working right on his laptop for some reason, so he had to send the person some messages and convey all the required information that way.

Once he got that done, he got some admin done for a new hire he has to setup next week, and then he had a quick team meeting, which flowed into another meeting.

Curtis then had a demo to attend for a new piece of software that actually looked pretty cool.

After that, he did some more admin and some tickets before doing his Norwegian homework for a while and also some security admin work at the end of the day.

He then swapped over to the Xbox and played some games on his new 4K monitor, which looks beautiful!

He enjoyed his first day working in his own little office with a proper setup. Far easier now we both have a room to be in and we can’t hear each other during our meeting.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a really busy day, but didn’t feel like her brain kicked in until about half way through! She started by trying to catch up on emails and send our a few in response. During this Kim was asked to jump on a call to provide an update from her team to theirs. The only issue was Kim couldn’t remember what the answers for the questions should be, so she wasn’t much use there.

Kim then joined a weekly team meeting and it was during this meeting that she started being able to keep up with what was going on and have useful answers for some questions, so that was good! She then set up a quick meeting with a couple of people to discuss a new hire before joining them in a different recruitment meeting.

In the afternoon Kim had an interview then a quick catch up with the hiring manager. Then she helped with an IT order and made a plan for the next steps of a project.

For the rest of the day Kim prepared for an event tomorrow, did some paperwork and some research.

Evening

We went out to the old apartment to meet the agent there and do a final check up of the apartment. Nothing was wrong at all, so we walked back home, dropped off some items we left there and then went to the supermarket and bought some essentials we needed.

We were very hungry, so we had chicken wraps and Mac and cheese for dinner, then Kim had some more work to do and Curtis unpacked some more of the kitchen items and tidied up the kitchen counters a bit so there was actually room to use it.

We did that and then we finally relaxed and watched TV together.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started the day by changing someone’s name across all platforms which was actually very seemless and he was very happy with how it worked out.

After that, Curtis had his weekly team meeting which lasted last time than usual.

Curtis did a lot of tickets after this, and was working with an ongoing Zoom issue for someone.

Post lunch was much of the same. He eventually got the Zoom issue sorted and was able to do some other tickets, too.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by logging the responses she received from the survey. It looks like exporting the information is a paid feature, so Kim has a fair bit of data entry to do!

After this Kim put a link to a discount page for Grouse Mountain. This would have been very useful last week as this was the mountain Kim and Curtis went to on Saturday. Never mind! She then spent some of the morning drafting up a couple of options for the next phases track and trace log. She isn’t too sure which she feels it the best way so she made both and will see what other people think.

In the afternoon Kim went to Staples to get some mailing pouches that will fit the hoodies in them. She found the only box in the store and then went back to the office.

Once she was in the office Kim packaged up a hoodie and it worked perfectly! So she then took it to the post office to make sure that the postage the meter gave her is the right amount. Its a good thing she checked as it wasn’t! Its good to know now so that when she does the big send out she will just take them all to the post office and do it all there.

Kim then went through all of the stationary that she hadn’t finished organising and either put it away in the cupboard or got it ready to be donated.

Long Awaited Pro Haircut

Kim left work and walked home, dropped off her things and went to get her haircut!

She’d been waiting for a professional haircut for a long while and was very happy she was finally able to get one.

Once Kim was back from her haircut, we had pesto chicken pasta for dinner and watched some TV, as well as played some games.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did some tickets and then had a meeting to discuss some project work which lasted for about an hour.

He then had to ensure that users couldn’t change some certain settings on SharePoint, which took some time.

After lunch, Curtis helped with some more tickets and questions and then his team released a new security product, which people had a lot of questions about so Curtis spent time fielding those questions.

He did some more tickets in the late afternoon and then was done for today!

Kim’s Day

Today is the final summer party! Kim added the answers and media to the final quiz and then had a meeting with her colleague to triple check it and make some edits.

An hour before the party a friend and vendor popped by to water and look after the plants for the last time and handing over to her replacement. It was great to say hello, and Kim had to explain that she collected up the plants as backgrounds for the summer parties and that they are usually spread around the office a bit more!

Then it was time for the final party. Kim collected the few things she needed and then they got started. It went so well! They had someone host the cocktail masterclass, then Kim did the quiz and at the end everyone played a few rounds of Jackbox and it was so much fun!

After the party finished Kim and her colleague went to a rooftop patio to have a little snack and another cocktail, a nice little celebration to end the summer parties.

Evening

Kim was home at a good time today and we played some mini golf, followed by some other games whilst dinner was cooking.

We had a ceasar salad with some corn on the cob on the side, as well as some homemade potato salad.

We watched Lucifer and then some YouTube videos.

We watched some more TV and went to bed.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis spent the whole morning in meetings.

He had a 1on1 to start the day and then went right into the weekly Zoom webinar.

After the webinar, Curtis had a team meeting to go over results from a monthly survey that everyone in the company completes.

Curtis had lunch and then did a bunch of tickets in the afternoon and was answering a few questions on Slack.

He also tested a few Zoom features that people were asking about.

Kim’s Day

Kim went into work a little early today to host the midweek catch up and again there were a fair few people so it was fun! After that she hosted the health and safety monthly call, with the offices being closed, there wasn’t too much to talk about.

To get her day properly started Kim called FedEx in the UK to arrange a pickup for an item as the original pickup was cancelled, but not by Kim. After 20 minutes of hold music, the automated person hung up on her, so that was great. She figured the best she could do would be to try to arrange another pickup and go from there.

As a result of the team meeting yesterday the document everyone was working on needed to be updated, so Kim drafted up some suggestions and sent them over to be reviewed and maybe added.

Kim and hee colleague spent the afternoon clearing out empty desks and collecting all the loose equipment from around the office. They also organised and planned where people will be able to sit.

After all the cleaning Kim started on her expenses and it was good she was paying attention as she noticed that something was wrong. Kim checked and it turns out that they had been triple charged for a delivery. So Kim called FedEx to look into it further and it turns out she was right and they will be organising a refund. The best part of that call was that the lady was nice, very helpful and did not hang up on Kim, a great way to end the day!

Evening

We had coconut chicken with corn on the cob for dinner and then we just relaxed and watched some TV for the evening.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did a lot of work on his Hackathon project today! It’s that time again, and he is in the same team as last time, which was the winning team, of course!

The idea has really got some legs now, thanks to multiple meetings during the day and the wonderful developer getting it built out.

Curtis did a few of the admin things for that and a few tickets around this. He also attended the weekly Zoom webinar.

Curtis did some work around some requested approvals and he also showed his team what to look for and how to approve these correctly.

Curtis did a bunch more work on the Hackathon and some more meetings for it and then was done for the day!

Kim’s Day

Kim woke up and then stressed thinking that she was 15 mintues late for the midweek catch up, this would have been the case on most days but it turns out that today Kim was 45 minutes late for a resilience and mindfulness webinar, so that wasn’t great! Luckily it was voluntary and recorded so Kim can catch up on it.

She then got ready for the midweek catchup and had a lovely chat with people from the Vancouver and Toronto offices. It was great!

Kim then spent some time catching up on emails and general admin. She also wrote some notes for upcoming meeting and plans. Mid morning Kim jumped on a call with a colleague to talk about the plans for the kitchen, Kim has already looked into getting a new dishwasher but they are also looking into replacing something else too. After this call Kim spent a while looking for things that are needed in the office.

In the afternoon Kim had her 1-1 and it went well. For the rest of the afternoon Kim continued shopping for things that they need in the office.

Hopefully The Last Deep Clean

We left home right after finishing work and went to the old apartment, with a stop at the liquor store and Home Depot for supplies.

We had a long list of things we needed to do, so we got right on it.

Most of it was easy stuff, but the one main thing that was a pain was the oven! It was just not getting clean! We tried many different techniques but none seemed to help. Due to this, we think we need to pay someone to come and clean it!

We got everything else done though and drove back home.

We showered when we got home and then ordered a McDonald’s for dinner as we were too tired and couldn’t really be bothered to make anything that late.

We ate that and then had some of the new whiskey we bought to wind down the evening with some TV.

Place 72 – Day 270: Vancouver, BC – The Final Packing & Dismantling!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very busy and productive day that went fast! After his usual admin, he joined Zoom’s weekly webinar which was very interesting and helpful. After that, and for most of the day around doing tickets, Curtis started and completed a part of his new project, which was to review some options and decide if the company should use the settings/policies to improve the security of the internal IT systems or not. After work, Curtis cleared out a few cupboards and got some things ready and packed.

Kim’s Day

Today started with guided meditation as part of mental health awareness month. It was very interested and kim enjoyed it. She of thinking of adding into the odd yoga time. After meditation Kim hosted the mid week catch up. It was a fair few different faces which was good.Kim then headed into the office, really early for normal because she had a meeting. On the way she had a good catch up with her colleague. Once she arrived Kim got all of the marketing stock ready for her meeting. She then went through the stock that there is with the director of marketing and they started making loose plans for where it will live and who will be looking after it. After the meeting Kim set up another meeting to go over the stock with someone else from marketing and someone from HR to look into things further.Kim then went through emails and caught up with that. She also arranged a courier for someone for Friday. While she was organising her emails the people to do the renovations arrived, so Kim showed them around and left them to it as she had a call to join. After the call Kim updated her log for the mailing and tried calling FedEx but had no luck. Kim then had her 1:1 that was cut short due to Kim being needed in office for decisions with the renovations and the building maintenance came up to show Kim a few things about the kitchen area.Kim then called FedEx again and was able to get some help with a booking she was trying to make. Due to Kim not giving someone their charger when they picked up their new laptop earlier in the day Kim had to arrange to have it sent out, so she booked that and then organised a FedEx for a laptop going out to someone else.Kim kept herself busy by organising some things around the office while she waited for the courier to come by. After a while she called them and found out it was booked after the cut off time for today so Kim has arranged for it to be picked up from her home tomorrow morning before the move. It did mean that Kim was stalling working from the office for no reason which was a shame! So she dropped the other package off to FedEx and went home.

The Final Packing & Dismantling!

We spent all evening packing up and dismantling! We got the bed dismantled and then packed up everything from the cupboards and sides. We now have pretty much everything ready to throw in the Uhaul tomorrow and move in to our new apartment!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis for rest and then, with Kim, walked down to the city.

Curtis was the only one in his team with a specific key, so he had to go drop it off.

He got into the office, dropped off the key and left again.

On the way back, walking through the deserted city, which felt very strange, Curtis stopped at Mario’s to get a coffee. It was delicious and Curtis had a good chat with the owner, as well.

Curtis walked back home and went right into the weekly webinar from Zoom in which they discuss new updates and have a Q&A session.

Curtis finished that and then for most of the remainder of the day, he completed the project work he began yesterday!

After doing a couple of tickets, Curtis did some training and then that was his day done.

Kim’s Day

Today was a busy day! The midweek catch up was great, there were more people than normal and it was great to see some newcomers! Kim hopped straight into a cribbage game after the social call and lost the game. It was good fun, but the other team crushed it!

Kim walked with Curtis into work, it was so lovely to have a tiny bit of normality, even if downtown does look like a brightly and beautifully painted apocalyptic movie. All the shops are boarded up, but people are painting on all the boards, its really beautiful!

When Kim got into the office she started by emptying the remaining cupboards on one side of the kitchen. She managed to organise the drinks where they take up only three cupboards and fit all of the drinks that were stored on a flatbed away in the cupboards too!

Kim then helped IT set up a new user on a laptop. She called one of the guys, but his audio wouldn’t work, so Kim asked the questions and he had to type out the answers. It was strange but it worked!

Kim then went back in the kitchen and started collecting all the nicer biodegradable plates and cutlery into one place, rather than being in different parts of the kitchen. She created a catering cupboard and its great!

Kim found another cabinet in the office so she took that to make it a gaming station in the break out area. She also took the new bookshelf in the kitchen for the breakout area too. She managed to position the bookshelf and another larger cupboard in a way that has storage for the trolleys behind them. Its very aesthetically pleasing!

Kim then had a meeting with her colleague, where she went over the plan for the rest of the day and asked her opinion on a few of the office move things.

Kim then moved a desk so she could use the area as storage space. She collected up all the stuff lying around thay belongs to the team and put it in the new space. It now looks much more open where Kim is making the breakout area.

Mid afternoon Kim popped out to pick up some personal pizzas for her colleague and herself. When she got back one of her managers was in the office. It turns out that he was in to pick up the laptop. So Kim finished setting it up and collected a few things to go with it and passed the laptop over. It was great to have a chat and say hello too!

Kim then attempted to DYI make a cable run in the cabinet she stole earlier. Turns out that it is nearly impossible to drill into the material it is with the weak drill Kim bought a few months ago. There is now a fair amount of sawdust and a tiny hole in the cabinet. So that was relatively unsuccessful! After giving up on this Kim moved a few tables from one part of the office to another.

Just before she left Kim cleared up the massive mess she made in the kitchen and one corner of the office. She then called a courier to ask some questions for a colleague and then had to plug in the mail machine in order for her colleague to send some post! It was a very sucessful day!

No Workout Today

We didn’t really feel like working out today, and Kim got home a little later, so we just played mini sticks instead, until we got hungry.

Curtis had meatballs and Kim had chicken sausages for dinner, with a collection of vegetables and a really nice gravy/sauce.

We watched the next episode of Tiger King and some other TV before heading off to sleep.

Building The Goals

Kim got home and used the stud finder as well as looking online to see if she can get a pole for home, and Curtis spent time building the two goals for mini sticks. We’ve now really upgraded our mini sticks setup!

Friend Chat

Kim and a chat with 5 other friends from pole dancing on Zoom! This was a nice conversation and gave the chance to chat with some other people.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was up and into the office early to get the boardroom and conference room setup for a whole company meeting. Curtis just had to check that everything worked, do some testing and get a few other things setup.

The meeting went on for 1.5 hours and then Curtis had another meeting right after and then after that he had yet another meeting!

After all his meetings, Curtis got some tickets done and then had some lunch.

After lunch, there was just a couple of hours left of the day so he used them wisely and got a few more things completed.

Curtis left the office and walked home.

Kim’s Day

In the morning Kim worked on one of the new offices floor plan and spent some time moving people around to sort a room booking for someone.

At lunch Kim went to the opticians and had an eye test done. It went well but Kim will need reading glasses so soon she will be on the hunt for a pair of glasses! She also received a referral to go to the doctors in regards to the migraine she had back in September. Kim also had her eyes dilated for the exam and that was a wild ride!

As Kim couldn’t see all that much when she got back to the office she had some lunch and then cut up some fruit, carefully.

Kim spent some of the afternoon rebooking the meeting room from the morning as the booking is for March and not February.

The rest of the afternoon Kim worked on making a report for the catering requested since she started. This meant Kim went back through emails and messages and logged a the requests.

Evening

The evening was pretty eventless for Curtis. He just played some games and watched some videos.

The class Kim went to was good fun, she was only able to get one of the two moves but it was a great challenge!

Kim had an hours break before the open pole session so she relaxed in the reception area.

It’s often hit or miss with open pole and Kim, sometimes she manages a few good things and other times it is a total wipe out! Tonight’s training was brilliant.

She trained in a move from months ago and was even able to incorporate it into a combo. She was also able to practise moves she wants to use in her routine, which was brilliant!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a busy start to the morning, having to help a whole company (that work within his company) setup their respective office boardrooms for a company wide meeting.

After that, Curtis spent the morning doing ticket work, and a small amount of project work, hoping to finish up a project soon.

Curtis’ team had a meeting at 13:00, which was to agree on projects to take on for the upcoming 2 weeks.

This meeting went on for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, which Curtis had lunch after.

After lunch, Curtis was able to get his project finished and start another project, which was a big success!

Kim’s Day

Kim got in and started on the shopping orders for the other two offices right away. She put all the orders together but ran out of time before her meeting room booking to actually place the orders. She really didn’t want to rush them and make a mistake.

Kim collected everything she needed for starting the table decorations and took them up to the meeting rooms on the 25th floor.

As she was spray painting Kim decided to go up to the roof so she can work in a meeting room wity a door that can open and allow fresh air in.She had the idea of using parts of the beautiful bouquet of flowers that Curtis got her for her birthday. She dried out the leaves and some petals and spray painted them sparkly or silver. This will look so pretty on the night scattered around the food.

She then cleaned up and headed back downstairs in time to start setting up for the lunchtime game. Kim moved some furniture and set out the pens and answer sheets for the game. Kim’s colleagues grabbed the pizza while she was setting up too!

The game this quarter was Guess the Song – Festive Addition.

It was great fun to watch people try to figure out what was playing and then the debates during the answers were great! Kim would not accept George Michael, it had to be Wham, but she was not insistent on the exclamation mark. She totally made the rules up as she went! It ended in a 3 way tie so there was then a few quick fire rounds until we came to one winning team! It was great fun!

Kim got back to her desk and then went through all the other offices orders and triple checked them before she completed them.

After this Kim sent 2 packages vis FedEx, which is great as she was worrying she was running out of time.

As she had bought some extra stuff for the table centrepieces yesterday, Kim wanted to do a quick improvement of the snowman she has made. It is now much cuter and better looking!

Kim then finalised the shop for the Vancouver office. It won’t be arriving until the afternoon on the Monday as Kim has tried a different shop!

As she has to order some extra things that the usual place is unlikely to stock.

Kim then sent and replied to a few emails before heading home!

Late Hockey Game

Curtis got home and sorted his hockey kit out and chucked that in the car.

Kim got home and we had some food. Curtis made himself some (way too spicy) Piri-Piri chicken with rice and Kim wanted to have a potato instead, so she did just that.

We watched some TV and then left the house around 21:00 to go to Curtis’ hockey game.

We will update you on how the hockey game went tomorrow!
