Place 72 – Day 914: Vancouver, BC – GB WIN! 🇬🇧

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had to walk down to the office to get a laptop setup and sent out.

Curtis got to the office and got the laptop which, luckily, most of the work had been done for so there was a little less for him to do.

Whilst he was setting the laptop up, he had the Great Britain v Belarus game on in the background. GB ended up winning that game which was awesome to see!

Curtis got a bit of work done whilst still at the office and then he headed home.

After lunch, Curtis had a quick meeting to discuss a project and then did some tickets before having a meeting which was ran by the CEO.

There were a few discussions to have after this meeting and then the day was done.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a super interesting day today. She started by getting organised, sening out meeting invites, sorting out a few recruitment things and getting general admin done.

She then had attended a meeting IT things before joining a weekly recruitment meeting. For the rest of the morning Kim did some collaborative work with her teammate to clean up, reorganise and move information in their team folder structure. They then both joined a meeting that only they turned up to, so they worked on a few more things and Kim rescheduled the meeting for next week and on.

In the afternoon Kim had a call with a new starter to discuss their home office set up and needs. She then had a check in with a colleague before joining an interview. After the interview they had a quick chat and review. Kim then hosted a forecasting meeting with a department and doubled the meeting up as Q&A with a new starter.

In the evening Kim got a lot of admin done and she set up there laptops for new starters for next week. She was super happy with all the IT stuff she was able to set up and get sorted!

Evening

We had the remainder of the leftover mac and cheese and then Kim had to do some more work.

Once Kim was done with that work, then watched a bit of TV before heading to bed. It was around 00:00 by the time Kim was done!

Place 72 – Day 910: Vancouver, BC – Great Britain Hockey & Renewed Driving Licenses

Curtis was up at 05:45 to watch Great Britain play the first game of the world championships against Russia.

The game went about as you would expect, with GB losing 7-1, but they actually played really well.

Curtis went back to bed after hockey and then got another hour or so of sleep in before we got up.

Curtis had a homemade breakfast sandwich for breakfast and Kim had French toast.

We got ourselves ready and walked down to the driving license office to renew our licenses and health cards.

We got there early and were able to get it done, and it was nice and fast! We do need to call about our health cards, apparently, but that’s not a big deal!

Once we got that done, we got doughnuts and coffee and went for a little walk.

When we got home, we watched the F1 qualifying and then Curtis watched the next Leafs playoff game whilst Kim did some work she needed to get done.

After both of us were done, we had some leftovers for dinner and then used the rest of the evening to just relax.

Curtis is staying awake to watch Great Britain’s second game tonight, which starts at 02:15! Late one for him!

Place 72 – Day 431: Vancouver, BC – Autumn Is Here!

Curtis’ Hockey

Curtis’ team won their game last night, which was good, but there was controversy again!

The other team’s goalie pulled his groin at the end of the 1st period, so the other team had to get a player into the goalie gear and play him in net!

Curtis managed to get an assist and his team won 4-1, but felt bad for the other team a bit and hoped the goalie was ok!

Autumn Is Here!

We went out today for a walk to and around Stanley Park.

We walked a different way to get to an Italian coffee shop which we had some nice coffee from!

We had a long walk for a few hours and it was much colder due to it being autumn now. It was beautiful outside, but much colder.

Katsu

We got home and relaxed for a bit, playing some games, doing some research for our PR & watching some TV.

We then went out to do the shop at around 17:45, which felt much later as it was so dark!

We got the shop done and headed back home, where Kim made a chicken katsu curry.

The chicken was really good, but for some reason the sauce didn’t turn out ask expected, which was a little disappointing.

We chilled out for the evening, it was a little colder too than it has been, so it felt nice and cosy.

Place 72 – Day 194: Vancouver, BC – Fire! 🔥

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very busy morning!

A lot of tickets came in and he had a lot of replies on tickets, so he spent all morning sorting those.

He did also have a meeting to discuss some system administrator applications that the company has and how his team can use those.

There was a fire alarm around 13:00 and it was actually real! The fire department came and it turned out to be a burning fan coil causing a small fire 6 floors down from Curtis’ office!

After getting let back in, Curtis had lunch and then a meeting with regards to one of his Business Analysis projects.

Curtis did a couple more tickets and then finished the day off with some training.

Kim’s Day

In the morning Kim had a meeting with the cleaning company where they did a walk around. It was great to meet a new person from the team and have a chance to touch base after working with them for a few months.
Kim then spent a lot of the morning ordering loads of different stuff. She confirmed the pizza order for Friday that was placed the day before, she did the weekly shop and orgnaised a few things for someone who just had their baby!

In the early afternoon there were a couple of people in for interviews so Kim stayed on hand to help out there. Then she had a quick impromptu meeting with her colleague to go over a few things.

For some of the afternoon Kim managed to squeeze in some studying too, which was great!

Evening

Curtis got home and watched the leafs game, which was an important one and the leafs won!

He started to feel a bit unwell, for some reason, but he was alright.

Kim went off to training for a couple of hours and had a pretty fun time!

Kims first class went really well! She was able to do the full combo, it wasn’t pretty, but she managed it. Kim then had an hours break, where she studied again and then went in to work on her routine. It was a but of a flop, but at least she tried!

We had some food and Kim studied more and then we headed to bed.

Friday tomorrow already! Sneaks up every week!

Place 72 – Day 166: Vancouver, BC – Plant Based Spaghetti Bolognese

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ Day was a very busy one!

Curtis had his normal brief team meeting in the morning, but was so busy before hand that he didn’t manage to even plan his day (which is what is discussed in the meeting).

Curtis didn’t stop being busy after the meeting, helping a couple of people around the office but also in other offices.

Curtis started to write up a policy, which he actually did for most of the afternoon, and then got some feedback from that which meant he had to do some further research.

Curtis left and walked home, hitting every light perfectly and was able to get home in about 25 minutes!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by catching up on emails from over the weekend and then she went into a meeting about the Wiki project.

They went over the full plan and most of the required bits have been done.

After the meeting Kim made up some business cards and did a little more administrative work on the project.

After lunch Kim ordered some flowers and then had a quick catch up with a colleague for what the plan is over the weekend and where they will need support.

Kim spent the rest of the afternoon working on her Vancouver office floorplan and made great improvements to it. It’s not quite finished but it is a lot more useful and makes far more sense!

Hockey’s Back

Hockey was on again tonight, starting at 17:00, and it hasn’t been on for over a week as there was a break for the all-star game.

Curtis was happy it was back and was able to watch the whole game when he got home. The Leafs won, too, which was a bonus!

Kim got back home from work and relaxed until hockey was finished and then we made dinner.

We had plant-based mince meat in a spaghetti bolognese as Kim wanted to give it a go.

We watched some TV and just chilled out.

Place 72 – Day 159: Vancouver,BC – New Phone & Free Popcorn!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got a new phone today! He had been waiting until 10:30 as that was when it was meant to be delivered, but he didn’t receive it until 13:30.

Luckily, Curtis had a busy day and was able to take his mind off of it for a while.

Curtis eventually got it and was incredibly happy and excited! The phone he got, if you care, is a OnePlus 7 Pro.

Curtis had a bit of a break as it was international popcorn day, so the office had a gathering and ate a lot of popcorn together! Fun times.

Curtis was even busy, right up until around 16:30, which he used the last 30 minutes to get some admin done before he left for the day and met Kim to walk home.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent most of her day organising two things; Lunar New Year and the Wiki project.

Kim set up orders for the Toronto office and cancelled an order for the Vancouver office.

Kim also spent hours formatting and making changes to the Wiki.

In the early afternoon Kim was in a meeting with the team to see where the progress of everything is at. After this meeting Kim had a quick chat with another colleague about her desk set up.

Kim then spent the rest of the afternoon sorting out orders for the celebrations on friday.

Big Win

We got home, had some delicious chicken BBQ pasta which Kim made and then we headed off to hockey.

Curtis’ team won, 4-1, in a very physical, hard fought game. Curtis was +2 and had an assist, which was awesome! A fun one to play, but not to watch.

We got back home, got some admin done and headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 211: Vancouver, BC – 2nd Ever Leafs Game!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis didn’t have much planned again today, but it soon added up!

Curtis did a lot of tickets and then his afternoon was taken up with starting a project in which he needed to contact a lot of users and ask them some questions and give them some advice and feedback, and then he needed to discuss with his team.

Curtis got a bit of reading done for his Business Analyst training done and then left work.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by catching up on some emails before heading into the remote workers quarterly social catch up. They had a great 30 minute catch up with new and older employees! It was wonderful!

After this meeting Kim spoke with the taco company from yesterday to complete the order for lunch for the other office. She then moved on to organising a FedEx delivery to go out.

Kim then set up the catering for a day long meeting and about an hour later cleared it away.

A while after this Kim had the monthly first aid meeting which went well, a lot of good questions were bought up and some great plans made for the new year!

2nd Ever Leafs Game!

We met after work and went out for some food.We walked past a Japanese place, which looked authentic and delicious so we thought we would give it a go.

We were not disappointed!

We both got chicken katsu curry and it was a huge portion and incredibly delicious. The chicken was excellent (maybe a little too fried, but still great) and the sauce was perfectly thick, combined with terrific rice. This filled us up perfectly!

We left here and walked to Rogers Arena to watch the Maple Leafs play against the Canucks.

This was our 2nd time watching the Leafs play, but this time, we went lower down in the seats to watch the warm up, which was amazing!

The game began and right from the start it was a pretty good one!

The 1st period ended 0-0, but there were some chances at either end.The Leafs took the 2nd period 2-0, with 2 pretty nice goals.

The leafs managed to seal the deal, after Vancouver made it 2-1, and the leafs got another goal and an empty net goal to get the win!

The leafs eventually won 4-1!

It was a really, really fun game to be at, and we loved every second!

After the game, we walked home.

Once we got back, we watched a little bit of TV and then went off to bed as it was 22:00 by the time we got back.

Curtis has a hockey game tomorrow, but probably won’t have the same amount of people watching it!

Place 72 – Day 198: Vancouver, BC – Helpin’ Out

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a lot of tickets to get done or chase up on today, so that kept him nice and busy, as well as a few new tickets he had to pick up.

Curtis had a call with a user and also an external support team to try and figure out an issue, which took about 45 minutes.

Curtis didn’t know how to do something he had seen a ticket for, so after he tested the boardroom to ensure it was working for a meeting, he did a 30 minute call with someone on his team so they could show him what to do.

After getting that done, Curtis had lunch and then after lunch, he had some project work to do, which was mostly just developing and writing up a process as well as creating a flow chart for it.

Once that was done, Curtis walked home.

Kim’s Day

Kim doesn’t really have much to report on today! She spent her her morning organising a meeting room for someone so had to kick people put of one and find others for them and talking with a hotel in regards to some local accommodation that needs to be booked.

For the afternoon Kim was talking with all the vendors for the holiday party and taking a fair few incoming calls. She also ordered the regular pizza for tomorrow.

That’s it in a nutshell really!

Helpin’ Out

Curtis got home crazy fast and watched the Leafs game, where they did very well!

As well as that, Curtis washed his hockey kit and folded and put away some laundry that we had out.

Kim got home briefly and then went back out again to go and help out at pole.

Kim went to the pole studio to help out at reception. This involved greeting people, handing out wrist bands and answering any questions when the receptionist was busy. As a result of helping, Kim now has a spare class!

After Kim’s pole help, she came home and had some dinner, then went up to the supermarket to get a few things.

We watched some TV and Kim ordered some things she needed for the holiday party.

Place 72 – Day 183: Vancouver, BC – Hot Chocolate Station & A Big Win!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and had his daily meeting.

Post-meeting, Curtis did a lot of ticket work, mostly on new tickets that were arriving after the long weekend.

At 11:30 he had a demo of some software with his team, which they got a small Q&A for too.

After that, Curtis jumped right into showing his team what to do with some software, with relation to a project.

Curtis’ afternoon involved helping someone with some OneDrive issues via a screen share and then he used the quiet afternoon to wipe and setup two old laptops.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by calling a hotel who they are missing a receipt from.

It took 4 calls and a lengthy conversation to track down the transaction in question and then the hotel never even emailed it across meaning Kim has to do it all again tomorrow!

Just as Kim was about to walk into her weekly catch up with her teammate where they had a good catch up on everything winter parties, first aid and all the other other small things that get pushed to one side.

Kim then spent the rest of the morning sorting through RSVPs for one of the other offices and reminding other offices to respond too.

Just before lunch Kim made a hot chocolate station as the cream was due to go past its sell by date at the end of the day. So she steamed up some cream and put out cinnamon, hot chocolate powder and vanilla flavour for people to help themselves!

Kim then sat down to a quick lunch before heading into the monthly health and safety meeting.

In this meeting they watched some instructional videos on their specific AED that they have. They also handed out action items for everyone to do. Its one thing Kim is trying to work on, hand work out and not hold it all!

Kim then went through the responses from the Vancouver winter party and drew up a spreadsheet for this office too.

Big Win!

Curtis had a hockey game at a really good time of 20:30.

They got there and it was Curtis’ team’s first time wearing their dark jerseys, which look amazing!

The game went really well, especially for Curtis. He got two assists, one was a really lovely saucer pass and the other was after whacking away at the puck and a teammate came in and finished it.

Curtis also got a boarding penalty, which he didn’t mean to do!

His team won 4-1, again the leading team and it was a really great feeling game!

We got back home, cleaned a few things we neglected earlier today, made some lunch for tomorrow and that was that, bed time. Which we are looking forward to as we are very tired after a lack of sleep last night!

Place 72 – Day 149: Vancouver, BC – A Winning Lunch!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis spent most of the day doing project work, which was all positive and its heading in the right direction!

Not too much more to speak about with that, but lunch was interesting.

As Curtis and a couple of his colleagues won a card building competition, they won a free lunch! They decided upon sandwiches from Chachi’s.

The sandwiches were excellent! Curtis had a smoked meat sandwich which was tender and delicious. It had pickles and some kind of mayo inside.

Chachi’s | Vancouver, BC

Rating:- 8/10

After lunch, Curtis completed some more project work and did some testing for it.

Right when he was about to leave, he got an email from someone asking for something from someone that has left the company, which makes it difficult.

Curtis did some investigation to see what could be done, but it seems not much was the answer.

Curtis walked home and just played some games for a bit until Kim arrived back.

Kim’s Day

To make time for training Kim is going in to work earlier so she can attend and open training time slot.

Kim got in and started her day by catching up on emails and preparing emails to send out to today’s new starters, as there are 3 today!

When the first arrived later in the morning Kim did the full new hire tour, including showing her the facilities like the gym and the too floor of the building.

For the rest of the morning Kim was working on the invites again and made some good progress. Just before lunch Kim had to nip out and pick up some milk alternatives as she forgot to order some. She also picked herself up some lunch while in the shop.

Mid afternoon the other new starter arrived so Kim did a tour of the office floor and that was it. After this Kim had a chat with her colleague about their plans for upcoming meetings and the timings that would work for them.

Kim started making the bookings before getting distracted by ad hoc requests from people coming to her desk. So she made a note of it all before she left and went to her first training session.

Session 1

Kim’s first training session went well. Kim trialled a new song to see if it worked better and it really did! She was able to take the few pieces from the other routine and easily transfer it into this song. It was so easy it in fact worked better with this song!

Session 2

Once Kim got back from her first set of exercise, we watched a little bit of TV and Curtis had some leftovers.

Kim went off to her exercise and Curtis played a few more games and got some admin completed.

Kim’s second training session was very much the same thing but at the location closer to home. Kim.was able to do a full run through with around and record it which is amazing!

As the routine is just over a month away and Kim is missing a whole week of training across 2 weeks, she was starting to stress. She is much happier and confident now.

Kim got back home and we watched a little more TV before sleeping.
