Place 72 – Day 943: Vancouver, BC – It’s Gonna Get Warm!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis didn’t have a meeting right away today, nor did he go to the office, so he was up at normal time and had some time to get adjusted.

A lot of the day was project work, getting something ready for a launch, but it was very fun! Curtis found out about more new features and just really enjoyed getting it setup.

He got some Norwegian homework done and a lot of tickets until lunch time.

After lunch, Curtis had meeting which was about a new potential software and gathering some information around that.

After that, Curtis did some admin and then had an impromptu meeting about ANOTHER software and a project has stemmed from that.

Kim’s Day

Kim was in back to back meetings today, but they were all super interesting and productive!! The first was to discuss a role and the next steps as it looks like there might be a candidate that people really like! She then had a quick check on with her teammate and then joined the department weekly update meeting.

Kim then joined a meeting to discuss another candidate in a different role and the next steps there before joining the weekly recruitment meeting. Kim then had a couple of IT style meetings, one where she was learning some really interesting stuff and the other was helping a teammate with a couple of systems. She then joined another recruitment meeting to discuss a role and how it might change going forward.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim had check ins with managers and employees who were reaching various stages of their probationary period and she had a call with a vendor too. To finish the work day Kim had a weekly check in with her teammate before having a chat with another teammate to perfect a LinkedIn post for a new hire within her team!

In the evening Kim did a little planning for an event and had a check in with a manager about their employees.

Evening

Kim har pole, so Curtis played some games and then made dinner. We had couscous with chicken, vegetables and feta cheese. A perfect combo for a warm day! Very Middle Eastern!

We ate that, watched some TV and relaxed. Crazy that it’s Friday tomorrow, it’s meant to start getting VERY hot, too.

Place 72 – Day 895: Vancouver, BC – Double Curry

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a brief chat with someone at 09:15 and after that he had some security data work to do as well as some tickets and admin.

At 12:00, Curtis had a team building session with his team in which each person had to pick another and write out answers to questions on their behalf, to see if they could get it right. This was pretty entertaining.

Curtis then played a game of werewolf which was also pretty fun and funny.

Once that was finished, Kim picked up some chicken katsu curry for lunch as Curtis got a $40 lunch budget from work for the team building.

We ended up getting enough food for lunch AND dinner, which we can’t complain about. That being said, the food wasn’t even that good.

Curtis’ after then consisted of another meeting with his team to wrap up projects for the last couple of weeks and then he did some end of week admin and some more ticket work.

Curtis just played games whilst Kim was out window shopping.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a lazy day! She slept in and then had some breakfast while she watched part of a movie. She answered a few work questions while she watched the movie too. Then she popped out to pick up some lunch.

After having lunch with Curtis Kim finished her movie and then packed up all the things going to the charity shop. After dropping things off at the shop Kim had an afternoon of window shopping and walking around downtown! It was lovely

Evening

As mentioned, we had curry leftover for dinner, so we ate that and watched some TV together. Kim did need to get some admin done once she got back from the shops, so she did that before dinner.

Place 72 – Day 436: Vancouver, BC – A Virtual Team Lunch

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a company-wide meeting at 09:00 this morning so he sat through that. Once that was done, he did a lot of tickets and also had another meeting at 10:30.

At 11:30, Curtis joined a Zoom call with his team and everyone got to expense some lunch to have whilst everyone is chatting!

We got some food from a Lebanese place nearby and it was terrific food! Kim had some as well but obviously only Curtis’ food will be expensed.

It was a really nice non work related conversation and it went by pretty fast.

Curtis had to do an offboard after this and then some other tickets and admin for the afternoon.

Kim’s Day

In the morning Kim didn’t do much, she enjoyed the final lazy morning before she goes back to full time work on Monday! She is so excited! Just before lunchtime Kim went out and picked up the food.

After lunch Kim watched a little TV and then played a video game for a bit, it was really fun!

Kim spent the rest of the afternoon reading a document that explains part of the immigration process. As Kim and Curtis don’t have degrees they are hoping to use a provincial nomination program that will give them a better chance at getting Permanent Residency.

This avenue would also allow them to apply for a bridging visa as a placeholder for PR, which would then give them time to finish the application without leaving Canada. So Kim took a lot of time this afternoon to thoroughly read the document and research things she didn’t understand.

Kim has also been messaging someone who did the same process last year with the same level of education, and they have been a great help. Its so nice to have someone to ask about how long things took and rheir next steps and any bumps in the road they may have encountered! Kim has been worried about the tight time frame between now and when the Visa ends, so hopefully this process will help.

Having done a little more reading and asking of questions, a lot of Kims concerns are now slightly less daunting, which is great!

Evening

We went for a little walk in the late evening just to stretch our legs and also to get some food.

We got a chicken pot pie each from Urban Fare as Kim has had them before and said they are good.

We ate those when we got home and watched some TV for the evening, including Truth Seekers, the new show from Nick Frost & Simon Pegg.

Place 72 – Day 395: Vancouver, BC – We’re Back

We woke up and had a nice big cooked breakfast and watched a bit of TV whilst eating.

We eventually got ourselves ready and made our way out of the apartment to get the weekly shop done.

It turns out, we chose the worst time to do this as there were far too many people and it was awful!

We got back home and then went out to get a coffee.

We came back home and watched some TV, played some games and then Kim made some dinner, which was something homemade which we obviously didn’t have whilst in Whistler!

Kim made egg fried rice with fried chicken which was terrific!

We ate that and watched some TV for the evening. We don’t plan on doing much this weekend, just relaxing from the week just gone.

Place 72 – Day 349: Vancouver, BC – A Psychological Thriller

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did some tickets and also a decent amount of security work to start off the day.

After his team meeting, Curtis did some more tickets and learned how to do something new! Once he learned that, he made a guide for it so others will know, too.

Curtis then had lunch and post lunch, he had a long team meeting to discuss project work from the last 2 weeks.

After that, Curtis’ laptop started being a bit temperamental, so Curtis ran some fixes on it.

Once the laptop decided to work, Curtis did another couple of tickets and then was done for the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim took the earliest social call from home, it was just her and one other person from one of the UK offices and it was lovely!

As she got to the office Kim met someone who started a few weeks ago to swap their laptop. While they were in the office she also gave them a quick tour and introduced them to a few people in the office.

After this Kim did a comparison on the shipment services available and set up a package to go out. She also spent some of the morning sorting a team booking and updating a few documents.

At lunch, Kim and a friend went and grabbed tacofino, bought it back to the office and had lunch together. It was really great as its his last day and he is a good egg!

Just as Kim finished lunch she joined the east coast social call, but it was just her and one other person, so they called it quits after 15 minutes. Then a little while later Kim noticed that people had joined the call so she jumped back on! It was great to catch up with those great people.

A short while after, eveyone in the office had a quick catch-up and a cheers to the guy leaving. It was a lovely little, distanced, get together before the long weekend.

Kim worked on the quizzes and then started the West coast social call a little earlier. She had it on in the background while she was working away, but after 45 minutes Kim decided to call it a day and head home!

Korean Chicken!

We had seen a Korean chicken place whilst we were walking the other day and so we thought we would try it out for dinner!

We each got some Korean chicken and Kim’s came with rice whilst Curtis got some Kimchi with his.

We had a nice beer with it and watched a bit of TV.

We relaxed for the evening and watched the film The Invitation which was a phycological thriller. We enjoyed it, but it did take some time to get going.

Place 72 – Day 337: Vancouver, BC – Long Beach & Park Walk

We had a pretty relaxed morning after a not so good sleep last night.

Kim made some incredible crepes for breakfast, Curtis had syrup, cinnamon and strawberries whilst Kim had melted chocolate with strawberries.

We watched a bit of TV and then decided to get up and get ready.

We left the apartment all ready for a nice long walk, but first, coffee!

We stopped at Starbucks and grabbed some nice, cold, coffee to walk with.

We then walked down to English Bay, where we walked on the beach, dipped our feet into the water, but then kept walking on.

We walked all the way through to ‘third beach’, which is the third of three beaches, named ‘first beach, second beach & third beach’…Very inventive names!

We walked all the way across the seawall until we got to Stanley Park.

We walked through Stanley Park, which was great as we didn’t have the sun beating down on us for a bit.

We walked for a while through the park and then we turned around and started to walk back home, which was a while away!

We headed back home but with a stop to grab Kim an ice cream! It was very tasty, but melted VERY fast, so she had to sit down and eat it quickly in the shade, but that did give us time to watch some people play beach volleyball which was entertaining!

We eventually got home, very tired and very warm, excited to have a glass of water!

We had showers and relaxed and then played some mini golf on the Xbox for a bit.

Kim then made some Nandos-style chicken burgers and a salad for dinner which was so incredibly delicious!

We then watched some movies and TV!

All in all, a pretty great weekend!

Place 72 – Day 329: Vancouver, BC – First Haircut in Months & Indoor Mini Golf!

First Haircut in Months

Curtis has had a couple of haircuts from Kim over the last few months, but his barbershop opened up a few weeks ago so Curtis thought it may be time to go there and get them to sort his hair out.We woke up and had a quick breakfast and then got ready for the day.Curtis walked down to the barbershop and it was empty, so he was even able to go in early.Kim did some things around the apartment and got ready for today while Curtis got his haircut.

Fancy Lunch

Curtis was very happy with his haircut and walked back home. On the way home, it began to rain and we had planned to go to outdoor mini golf, which the rain would ruin, so we found an indoor place instead and booked an appointment for 20:15.When Curtis got home, Kim had gone to Small Victory Bakery again and got a coffee each along with a nice Italian sandwich to share which was a perfect, fancy, lunch! We played games and watched some TV before heading out to the golf place.

Indoor Mini Golf

We drove out to Richmond to an indoor mini golf place to get there for around 20:15.We actually had a very great time! It wasn’t a particularly exciting or pretty course, but a full 18 holes and lots of fun was had!

Kim won in the end, by 7, but we had some fun for a bit!We came back home and had leftover Chinese for dinner and watched some TV.

Place 72 – Day 323: Vancouver, BC – Sun, Ice Cream & Lemon Drizzle!

Chat

We had a chat with Curtis’ family eight when we woke up!

It was great to catch up with them and see what they’d been up to and their plans for the next little while, as well as update them on us.

Sun & Ice Cream

The weather was so nice today that we went out for a bit, but first, we did a shop.

Once we finished the shop and unpacked it, we went out for a walk around the area and popped into Yaletown Gelato for an ice cream!

We each got one scoop, Curtis got dark chocolate and Kim got salted caramel.

Our ice creams were perfect, and we walked around the seawall on what felt a lot like a ‘normal’ weekend day, which was odd.

We stopped in to get a cold coffee each from Starbucks and then walked back home.

More Games & Lemon Drizzle

We got home and played some more games, which we are really enjoying doing now, and then it was probably a good time to do some laundry and make dinner.

We had a jar of carbonara sauce to use up so we had chicken and mushroom carbonara for dinner.

As well as making that, Kim made a lemon drizzle cake as well as some small lemon drizzle cakes, too.

We watched some TV and played some more games for the rest of the evening, but overall had a really great day and weekend!

Place 72 – Day 231: Vancouver, BC – Family Games & Long Drive

Lazy Morning

We had a lazy morning, as per usual on weekends, having breakfast, watching a bit of TV and relaxing.

Family Games

Once we got ready in the afternoon, we called Kim’s family and played some drawing games!

We used Skribbl.io to go against each other, having to draw whatever item we were given and everyone had to guess.

We had good fun for around an hour doing this and then they went to sleep so we said goodbye.

We chilled out for an hour or two more after this and then went for a drive!

Long Drive

We just wanted to get out but didn’t want to contend with other people, so we went for a drive.

We ended up drive for a while and got to an affluent area with a lot of horse stables and the such.

We turned around and just started driving in the general direction of home and overall the drive took us 1.5 hours once we got back.

It wasn’t as nice as going out for a walk, but we didn’t have to worry about physical distancing!

Films, Mini Sticks & Games

Our evening consisted of watching TV, a film (hotel Transylvania 2, which we think we may have actually seen before!) And then playing some mini sticks!

After Kim won the mini sticks game, which was incredibly fun and competitive, we played a bit of Need For Speed before browsing some houses in Norway whilst drinking wine, because why not?

Place 72 – Day 204: Vancouver, BC – Even More Training!

Even More Training!

Kim left early(ish) again to go to do even more training!

When she did this, Curtis got ready and went up to the pharmacy, followed by the supermarket.

Kim went to open pole and attempted training but really just sat about and did a few tricks. After the class she did some handstands and tried a few moves that someone quickly taught on the pole in reception!

Kim popped to a shop before heading home to have some lunch.

After lunch Kim went out to a feedback session with 3 coaches who provided some great feedback. It was great to get good criticism where it was needed and a few compliments on combos that worked and were worth keeping.

She then drove back to the studio closer to home with a friend and they went to a semi private lesson and worked on the comments from the feedback session.

Kim returned home and went in the hot tub for a little bit and then we had some food!

We ate a baked potato each with tuna, but weren’t quite full yet so we had some Mac and cheese!

We watched some more TV and then had an early night.

We hit 27000 blog views today! Thank you to everyone!
