Oslo

Place 93 – May 21 2022 & May 22 2022: Oslo 🇳🇴 – New Favourite City?

Day 1

We woke up for our last day at the farm and we were made some waffles for breakfast!

We went to see one of the kids’ gymnastics performance nearby. This was great to see all of the kids having fun.

Unfortunately we had to leave before it was done and drive to Oslo! We had never been so we wanted to see what it was like so we drove there to stay for our final night in Norway. We stopped in Kongsberg for snack and coffee, of course!

We got rid of the car, which wasn’t super easy to find and it was actually in a parking structure but maps took us to a different location! Once we did that we got ourselves checked in to our hotel which was right on one of the main streets.
We had a shower and freshened up before walking for some dinner.

We walked fairly far to get a burger for dinner but it was great as we got to see a lot of the city.

Once dinner was done, we continued our long walk around Oslo and all of the different areas! We also went to the cool looking opera house that they have in Oslo.

For the evening we had a nice relaxing time with snacks in bed and watched some TV.

Day 2

We had free breakfast at the hotel but it was a nightmare! Far too busy for such a small spot.

We walked to the King’s castle and we walked around the park that is attached to the castle. It was such a peaceful place to walk around and the architecture, as is Europe, was beautiful.

We went to ‘Frognerparken’ which is the famous park with a lot of nude sculptures in it, which is one part of it but also it’s a nice park and the sculptures look cool!

We walked to find ourselves a coffee and then walked to Askerhus festing, which is an old castle/military fort.

We walked quite far from here to ‘Gamle Oslo’ which is the old part of town which also has a very new part just around it. We wanted to check this out and we loved it.

We went back to the hotel to get ourselves sorted and then headed to catch the train to the airport.

We flew back to the UK to spend a couple more days there.

Kim’s dad, Tom, picked us up from the airport and we had a McDonald’s for dinner on the way home, of course! It was time to sleep once we got back.

Place 72 – Day 14: Vancouver,BC – Many Interviews & Night Snacks

Rushed Start

We woke up around 08:30 for Kim to have a phone interview at 09:00.

The interview didn’t last too long, but after it we realised we didn’t have much time to get ready!

We had breakfast and then both of us showered and got dressed into interview clothes.

We rushed down to the train station and got to where we needed to be with just a few minutes to spare!

Curtis’ Interview

Curtis is very interested in this role, so was looking forward to the interview.

He had to go to the 12th floor of a very nice building and the office was just as nice!

Curtis felt the interview went well and still has big hopes for the role.

Kim’s Interview

Whilst Curtis was having his interview, Kim realised her shoes were very uncomfortable and a bit painful, so she found some cheap alternatives that don’t hurt her feet so much.

Kim had her interview about 1.75 hours after Curtis’ finished, so we went to get some lunch before she went there.

We just grabbed a Subway and relaxed there for a bit and then we made our way to the building Kim was interviewing in, which was also a nice building.

Curtis grabbed a coffee whilst Kim had her interview.

Kim’s interview also went well and she is very interested also…and a lovely office! Neither of the offices are far from each other, either, which is nice.

Same Dinner Again

We got home and relaxed a bit and then for dinner we just had the same as the last few nights. The plan was to eat cheap and we have a lot of the pork, vegetables and rice left anyway.

Night Time Snacks

We got quite hungry around 22:00 so we walked just 4 minutes down the road to a place called off the grid which is a waffle shop.

Curtis got a strawberry milkshake, which came with a waffle stuck in it and Kim got a chocolate ice cream and brownie cup with waffle, too.

Kim also got a hot chocolate to take home.

Place 72 – Day 6: Vancouver, BC – Just A Walk & Chinatown

No Plans

We had no plans this morning, but we got up earlier than we have been and took a random walk.

We left the apartment and went to a waffle house for breakfast.

Waffles

We each had a waffle and a cappuccino.

Curtis had whipped cream, strawberries and chocolate and Kim had chocolate mousse, strawberries and chocolate sauce.

Our cappucinos were more like lattes, but they were very tasty!

We walked down to the conference area, which is where both the ice rink and football stadium are and had a look around.

We then walked across a bridge to another place which just so happened to be Chinatown, which we didn’t even know was there!

Chinatown

We walked around Chinatown for a while, just going down each street. There wasn’t many food places, which is what we usually think of when we think Chinatown, but it was still a cool looking place.

We saw a cool looking place, which was a ‘Chinese Culture Centre’.

Next to this, there was a small entrance way. This led to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese park.

We entered the park and it was incredibly tranquil as soon as we entered. It got us right out of the hustle and bustle of the city into a calm, peaceful park.

Across the way, there is a Chinese Garden, but we couldn’t find the entrance so we didn’t go in there.

We left Chinatown and went for more of a walk and got a bottle of drink before we walked back to the apartment.

Apartment Viewing

We went to view an apartment for if we come back to Vancouver.

It was alright, but wouldn’t be our first choice.

Leftovers

We had leftover pizza and well as more chicken, potato smilies and salad.

We watched a few different TV shows and then went to bed.

We had an awesome day planned tomorrow…well, more like evening.

Kerikeri

Place 68 – Day 4: Kerikeri – Clean Caravan, Stone Store & Delicious Lamb Leg

We woke at 08:00 and had a bit of breakfast before getting back out to do the weeding, continuing from yesterday.

We stopped a couple of hours in to have a break and one of the kids here made us some amazing waffles!

We went back out to do some weeding, and did another hour or so and we are nearly done with that. We had a supervisor with us, too.

We finished up and had an hour or work remaining, so we set on the next job which was to clean the outside of the caravan as the family will be taking this away this weekend.

We spent a while on this, using all sorts of tools and we got rather drenched but it was certainly fun and it also looks much better.

We finished up, showered and got dressed to go out. We wanted to do something this afternoon.

We had a sandwich and then jumped in the car. We went to the shop first to get cold supplies as we both have colds now!

We then drove out to an area here which has multiple walks, an amazing water area and some old buildings.

Firstly, we got an ice-cream at the cafe. The most important stop.

After this, we looked around the old stone shop which had been trading since the 1800s. Everything was old and the building was stone. It was pretty cool.

We then walked up to a hill which was a former Maori fortification, but there is nothing left there now, but there was a great view.

We had a little walk in the lake and we saw a baby duck!

We got home and sat outside doing some admin and admiring the incredible view from the house!

We then had a terrific leg of lamb which was their former lamb, too. This was paired with a couscous and vegetable salad and, of course, gravy.

We cleaned up, washed up and had a brief chat with our hosts before we left them to sort out things for their trip and we went to bed and chilled out.

This time last year!
