Place 72 – Day 865: Vancouver, BC – Viewing Is Cancelled

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was meant to have a meeting at 09:30 but that was cancelled, so he had a bit of time to get some tickets completed.

He used that time to find and order 8 tablets that were required. It took some time to find some at a good price that were not sold out, but he was eventually able to find some and get them ordered.

That took up a good hour of his morning and then he had a 30 minute team meeting.

He did some more tickets and then had a team discussion about a project for 1 hour before having some food.

After lunch, it was mostly just tickets but he did have a short team meeting, too, to discuss some random points.

Kim’s Day

In the morning Kim was able to get a fair bit of admin done. She was able to organise meetings, send emails and complete some paperwork. She then had a phone screen interview. After that she worked with a teammate on a few tasks before heading into a team meeting.

In the afternoon Kim worked with her teammate again to go through some paperwork and then Kim joined a post interview chat to discuss a couple of candidates. She then hosted another marketing meeting which was so interesting and some great progress has been made. She ended the day by getting more paperwork and admin done.

Evening

The viewing that was meant to happen here at our apartment was cancelled, so we had our evening to ourselves.

Curtis watched hockey and Kim used the time to have a nice nap which she felt much better after.

We made some cheese and pesto pasta for dinner and just hung out for the rest of the evening. We’re getting closer and closer to moving!

Place 72 – Day 555: Vancouver, BC – Recruitment

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting at 09:30 with his team and then had quite a few small tasks to do up until his one on one with his manager.

After having his 1:1, he had another long team meeting followed by lunch.

Post lunch, Curtis walked down to the office to get someone’s items from them as they were leaving the company. He had a nice chat with them.

Curtis left shortly after that and had to wait a while for the elevator as the building was done to just 1!

He got back home, did a little work and then wrapped up for the day.

Kim’s Day

Most of Kim’s day was related to recruitment! There were lots of interesting meetings, things to sort and figure out. It was a challenging, educational and interesting day, Kim really enjoyed it and enjoyed having the option to learn!

To start her day Kim had a chat with a friend to discuss a local vendor and see if they would be a good fit for Kim to use at her company. It was also really nice to have a little chat and say hello!

She then focused on doing the final set up of a laptop and arranging a pickup time. She then a few recruitment meetings towards the middle of the day and Kim went over some job descriptions with a couple of department leaders.

In the afternoon Kim had more recruitment meetings and she organised a few things for the event coming up. She also took some time to organise some training for a new starter joining on Monday.

Evening

Kim worked on making a spreadsheet for all the apartments we are looking at or interested in. This will help us keep track and note down the pros and cons of them.

We ordered some Korean chicken and ate that whilst relaxing for the evening.

We have some viewings to go to tomorrow and Curtis had a haircut, too.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis began the day with a meeting to go over some application settings and decide how it needs to be setup. He and his colleagues got through quite a bit before they had to stop and go to another meeting.

The next meeting was with the entire team to discuss some new project processes which should really improve how projects get done and get tracked.

Curtis was meant to have another meeting but that got cancelled, which game him time to do the rest of his tickets which were all about checking old user accounts and seeing if they are still needed or not. That took the rest of the day, with a few other tickets thrown in.

Kim’s Day

Today was had less meetings for Kim. She started her day by setting up a laptop, unfortunately she was greeted by an error message so the set up took a little longer than anticipated.

Kim joined a department lead to discuss a few job postings, Kim got some fantastic direction for the postings that she has been working on for the week. After this meeting Kim worked on the laptop for a bit before joining the weekly recruitment meeting.

At the beginning of the afternoon Kim dropped off a laptop to a new starter. It was lovely to give them a friendly, masked wave and say hello.

Once she got home Kim hosted a little dance party as a wellness break. Then she ran out to go and see a potential apartment. It was really lovely! The apartment building is further away from downtown than their current home, but it’s in a nice and quite neighborhood, it’s a smaller building and it’s closer to the beach! Kim and Curtis later submitted an application and are excited to hear back!

On the way home Kim picked up a couple of coffees and got some admin done before a small training session with her colleague.

Evening

We left at 16:30 and went to view an apartment. We had 3 back to back which was 4 in total for today!

The first apartment was a very strange layout but the realtor was very nice. We liked the space and the sizes of the rooms, as well as the large amount of storage, but the layout was just too strange for us.

The second apartment was alright but the lady was rushed and brought in another couple at the same time as us which stressed us out a bit so we left as you’re not meant to do that at the moment due to COVID. She also didn’t give us any attention whatsoever.

After that one, we went to one pretty close to home and the man was really nice. Unfortunately, the second bedroom was far too small and there were a few things wrong with the apartment that we couldn’t look past.

We got back home after a quick trip to the shop and made another Hello Fresh meal. This time, it was a deconstructed fajita which was alright but a little bland and dry.

Kim did a little more work, which ended up taking most of the night!

Day 72 – Day 535: Vancouver, BC – Another Nice Apartment

We woke up at 10:00 and got ourselves ready, then had some breakfast.

After that, we got the apartment all cleaned up and tidied for yet more viewings.

We went out to viewings of our own, to see 2 apartments. The first one wasn’t great, nor was the building manager showing us around, but the second apartment was nice, as was the realtor!

We then grabbed a coffee and made our way back home.

We got back and had a brief chat with the realtor here and then relaxed for a little whilst we drank our coffee.

Kim then had work to do, so she did that whilst Curtis watched hockey.

After hockey, we went out to the supermarket to get some food for the week.

Once we were back, Kim made some marinated chicken which we had with rice for dinner.

We watched TV and just relaxed for the remainder of the evening, with very little plans tomorrow.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a few tickets to do in the morning, as well as a some admin and then he had a team meeting for around an hour.

Once that was done, Curtis did some tickets and his Norwegian homework right before lunch.

After lunch, Curtis worked on getting something working that he was trying to get some last week and he actually managed to make progress, thanks to a colleague having a second pair of eyes.

Once that was mostly finished, he did some cleaning around the apartment to get it ready for the apartment viewing this evening.

Kim’s Day

Kim pretty much spent the whole day in meetings. In the morning she also on-boarded a new team member, which was exciting. In the afternoon Kim took a break from meetings to help clean the apartment ready for viewings. It doesn’t make for an interesting sounding day but Kim was really busy and had a very good and productive day.

Evening

We had what we hope are the final viewings of the apartment this evening, so we went out for a walk for the 1.25 hours that the viewings were on for. It was quite nice to get out in the evening after a busy day.

We went to Starbucks and got a hot chocolate and went for a walk around the sea wall and surrounding areas.

There weren’t many people around and the weather was mild with no rain, so it was perfect.

We got back and waited a little in the lobby for the showings to be done and then headed back up.

Luckily, we had leftovers from last night which meant we didn’t have to do much for dinner.

We ate our dinner and watched some TV and got our apartment back to how we had it. There’s a chance there will be some viewings tomorrow, but we shall see!

Place 72 – Day 529: Vancouver, BC – Apartment Browsing

We woke up a little later today as we really had no plans.

We woke up and had some crepes for breakfast.

We slowly got ourselves ready and then went out for a walk, in the rain, to get out for a bit, but also to get another hot chocolate for Kim to try.

We went to an Italian cafe for the hot chocolate today, it was a salted caramel hot chocolate and Curtis had a cappuccino.

The hot chocolate was really nice but the cappuccino was a little disappointing.

We walked for a bit but it started to rain a little heavier, so we headed home.

Once we got home, we watched a bit of TV to relax for a bit, then Kim had some things to do for our PR, so she did that and then we took a look at some 2 bedroom apartments online as we are thinking of getting ourselves some more space! We even booked in to see one in the same building we are currently in, for Tuesday, just to see how it is.

We then made a veggie roast for dinner, which we were very excited for!

We ate that, and were stuffed, so the remainder of the evening was a lot of relaxing.

We have what is hopefully the last apartment viewing of our apartment tomorrow evening.

Place 72 – Day 527: Vancouver, BC – 2 Days, 2 Takeaways!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a fairly quiet day, especially compared to the rest of the week.

He did some tickets and some admin in the morning and then had a long team meeting in the afternoon.

Once the meeting was done, Curtis had some lunch and then in the afternoon he had to chase a few people to do some things which were security related and then he did some more tickets.

Kim’s Day

In the morning Kim was getting ready when she received a phone call saying that the delivery driver was there and ready to pick up the laptop. She had totally forgotten! So she quickly wrapped it up and then Curtis took it downstairs to the courier.

Once Kim was ready she joined a meeting to go over some plans with a colleague and talk them through a few processes that they might need. Then Kim joined a meeting about a facilities project that is going on. In the meeting they picked a vendor and Kim reached out to them after.

Kim then had a bit of time before her next meeting so she popped out to get a coffee! After staying home all week stressing it was lovely to take a little walk midday and feel more normal. Kim came back to join a meeting with a couple of the executive team to go over some paperwork. It was so interesting and Kim is really enjoying helping with this process.

For the afternoon Kim worked on writing up a couple of job postings. She is really enjoying this aspect of her job!

Evening

We had a takeaway yesterday, but we are still out of food as we’ve not made it to the supermarket yet, plus, Friday is takeaway day, so we went up to La Cantina and ordered a takeaway!

We had this first in Whistler so we got it again here! We had ordered from the one here before but Curtis tried something different and wasn’t that impressed, so he had the same thing he had in Whistler today and it was delicious.

We watched some TV, played some games and did some cleaning/tidying as the viewings are happening again tomorrow.

Place 72 – Day 521: Vancouver, BC – First Apartment Viewings

We woke up at a really good time, got ourselves showered and had a bit of breakfast.

Right after that, we got right into doing the final clean and tidy, which took us a couple of hours.

We felt the apartment looked incredible once we were done, and the realtor felt the same, which was great!

Curtis welcomed the realtor and showed her to the storage and parking, and then we left and let her do her thing.

We went first to get a coffee/hot chocolate from a place down in Gastown.

The hot chocolate was part of the festival again and was a malt-style hot chocolate. It was nice, but not exactly what Kim was expecting. Curtis got an Americano from there too which was fantastic.

We left here and walked for a bit towards Curtis’ work.

We had a gift card from his work building for the food court next door, so we went there to get some lunch. Unfortunately, the card didn’t work, but we still got the food and went to find a place to eat it.

Whilst we were finding a place, we noticed that Jack Poole Plaza was slightly different with a lot of new random signs around etc.

It turns out, Ryan Reynolds is filming there and making it into another location!

We ate our lunch and then continued with our walk. It’s certainly got colder now and it’s rumoured that it will snow tonight, but we shall see!

We walked for a couple of hours what was really nice (but cold) and then we headed back home to meet the realtor and get our keys back.

We got back in and just relaxed for ages! We even had a nice nap.

For dinner, we had some frozen chili we had made before, so we made that into quesadillas!

We watched a comedy show whilst we ate that and watched a few other things for the evening.

Whilst all the walking was fun today, we do play to relax tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 519: Vancouver, BC – The Cleaning Begins

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was very pleased that he had a great sleep last night!

He was very ready to work, which was good, as he had quite a bit to do today.

He had some tickets to complete and then, mid morning, he setup a laptop remotely in the US, which always takes time due to connection issues/time it takes to do everything.

Once that was done, it was lunch time, followed by a bit of license auditing which Curtis did to ensure that licenses weren’t being used when not required.

Kim’s Day

Kims day started with a meeting about the HR system. They went through some of the processes and features to ensure that they had been set up correctly. Following this meeting Kim made some changes and updates to a few things. At midday she had a HR meeting where they updated about candidates and other things.

Then in the afternoon Kim sent some paperwork out, reviewed documents and continued with the updates from the morning.

The Cleaning Begins

Once he finished work, Curtis played some games and then he got some cleaning done for he showings this weekend.

He cleaned the bathroom and that looks so much better!

Whilst he was doing this, Kim made chicken burgers, leftover from the previous time we had them. We also had some Mac and cheese leftover so we had some of that, alongside the burger.

We watched TV and did a bit more cleaning/tidying for the evening and then headed to bed.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a chat with someone right away in the morning as they had deleted a lot of shared files, so Curtis had to work getting those back (which took about an hour).

After that, Curtis had a Norwegian lesson which went really, really well!

After the lesson, Curtis did a few tickets and then had some lunch.

After lunch, the day slowed down for Curtis so he got some admin done and a bit of other work. He had to investigate some quarantined files for someone and see if they are safe to allow.

Kim’s Day

To get ready for the weekly company wide meeting Kim added to her notes she has been making over the past week and checked last weeks notes.

After the meeting Kim joined another meeting that was going over a job description for a potential new role. It was really interesting as yesterday Kim had made a job description template and it was really fun to see the few things she had thought of already and also learn the many things she had forgotten or overlooked.

For the last part of the morning Kim spent some time arranging meetings for Kims facilities project that she will be working on in the afternoon, which was interesting. Then Kim wrote up and sent out the invite for the winter party, which was great as it was something that Kim had wanted to get sorted for a few days!

Before Kim went out for the afternoon she wrote up a lot of the information for the connect four tournament that she will be running over the next few weeks / months. She didn’t manage to send out the information, but she got a lot of it ready!

Kim then went out and met her colleague for the facilities project and attended a few meetings. It was a really interesting and fun afternoon that Kim will be able to say more about at some point!

After all the meetings Kim and her colleague went to a craft store to pick up a few items for an upcoming event. When she got home Kim wrote up a summary of the day and then sent out the information and sign up sheet for the connect four tournament! Today was a long, successful and very fun day!

Evening

Once Kim got back home and finished her little bit of work, we had the final bit of lasagna and watched some TV. That was pretty much all we did for the evening!
