Place 72 – Day 566: Vancouver, BC – The Worst Timing

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had to get an onboard done this morning, but as with ever, something broke which prevented him from getting the accounts created.

He spoke with him team as the figured out the issue so he could get the work done and also get the system working again. Luckily, this only affected Curtis’ team and no one else.

Once that was done, he was able to get the onboard completed and get on with other work.

Curtis was able to get a lot of tickets done and then in the late afternoon he had to do some project work and some project admin, too. Overall, a very successful day!

Kim’s Day

Kim was able to get a few smaller admin tasks done in the morning before all of her meetings. She then hosted her first team meeting where Kim went over some of the projects and everyone had a nice little catch up. She then presented and gave a lot of information in the weekly company wide meeting before joining the weekly project catch up.

Kim arrived late to the project catch up because she joined the wrong call and didn’t notice for 10 minutes.

After lunch Kim worked with a teammate to update a guide send out information, send out a form for everyone to complete and update a process for new starters. It was a very successful and productive hour!

Kim then worked on a guide for another project that she has been working on. Then into the evening Kim made a few orders for people before working on some job descriptions.

Evening

Curtis watched hockey whilst Kim worked a little more in the evening and then we had some veggie chilli for dinner. We couldn’t be bothered with rice, so we had it in a wrap with a nice fresh salad on the side.

We watched some TV and played some games as usual in the evening.

Place 72 – Day 242: Vancouver, BC – Oculus Quest VR!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started work and did a few tickets.

He then had an offboard to do and his team meeting, followed by more tickets in the morning.

A lot of the afternoon was admin work.

At around the perfect time for Curtis to finish work, a delivery came for him and it was the Oculus Quest VR headset he had been waiting for, which was expected until Monday!

Curtis got this setup right away and gave it a test run…he really enjoyed it, but had to stop as it was time for a walk!

Kim’s Day

Kim held the midweek catch up and had a great chat with a few people, it was really lovely. Straight after that, Kim had the Health and Safety committee meeting.

Funnily enough there were no office walks or first aid incidents to be reported! It was great to speak to the committee and see if they have any thoughts on how we are doing safety wise and open the floor up for people to air concerns about day to day in the current situation. Kim also mentioned that some first aid guidelines have changed and sent out some information after the call.

Kim then spent most of the rest of the morning sending out messages and drafting up invites and emails. She complied a list of some useful YouTube channels for people to show their kids for education purposes.

After lunch Kim had her 1:1 and it was great to get guidance on a few things and have a general catch up! She followed up this meeting by stating a new wiki page about ergonomics and mindfulness at home, she will have a page outlining good working at home exercise and provide people with good resources on how to stay active and keep an eye on their mental health too.
Kim then had a donut date with someone from the office, in this time it is really good that people are able to connect so easily and just have a chat.

Kim started making plans for emails that she will have to send out when she gets back in the office, while doing so she realised it would be easier to make an info sheet that outlines all the things she needs to tell people. So she drafted it up and will send it on to IT for their input after!

Walk & VR-ing

Once Kim was done with her exercise, we went out for a walk.

It was far too busy, but nice to get outside.

We got back home and made some rice to go with the veggie chilli Kim made yesterday and ate that whilst watching some TV.

After this, we played VR together for the first time and we LOVED it. So glad we have that, now we are in self isolation.

We did that for a while and then watched a little TV before sleeping.

Place 72 – Day 220: Vancouver, BC – The Day Went Fast!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got working and whilst the day started slow, it certainly picked up!

Curtis did some tickets in the morning and then at 11:00 (ish) we went for a walk together up to the shop, to kill two birds with one stone, getting a walk in and getting some things from the shop.

After that, Curtis’ day got very busy, with many people messaging him and a lot of new tickets coming in!

He got a lot done, but then also had 1:1 meeting after lunch, followed by another project related interview meeting.

After that, Curtis spent the rest of the afternoon sorting out some folders which had duplicates, so he had to compare both, check which was the right one and delete the other.

All in all, that took a couple of hours but the time went super fast!

Kim’s Day

Kim joined the company wide meeting to start her day and then spent some time looking into how things will work with couriers at the moment!

She then worked on sending out invites for social things happening soon, a cello recital and company wide social catch up on Wednesdays!

After lunch Kim wrote down plans for other mini games. She wrote up the blurb and ‘rules’ for the games to save her time when it comes to sending out invites!

Kim then had a quick call to practise how she can make break out rooms on Zoom and said a nice hello to other people in her team which was nice!

More Working Out

We took the bins out, emptied the dishwasher and then did more working out!

We did the next day of our 14 day workout followed by some stretching.

Kim did some more whilst Curtis tapped out and played games instead.

We then had vegetarian chilli for dinner and then Kim went out to work to pickup a couple of things she needs from there.

We watched some TV and played some more games when Kim got back and that was our day, which was a super fast one!

Place 72 – Day 166: Vancouver, BC – Plant Based Spaghetti Bolognese

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ Day was a very busy one!

Curtis had his normal brief team meeting in the morning, but was so busy before hand that he didn’t manage to even plan his day (which is what is discussed in the meeting).

Curtis didn’t stop being busy after the meeting, helping a couple of people around the office but also in other offices.

Curtis started to write up a policy, which he actually did for most of the afternoon, and then got some feedback from that which meant he had to do some further research.

Curtis left and walked home, hitting every light perfectly and was able to get home in about 25 minutes!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by catching up on emails from over the weekend and then she went into a meeting about the Wiki project.

They went over the full plan and most of the required bits have been done.

After the meeting Kim made up some business cards and did a little more administrative work on the project.

After lunch Kim ordered some flowers and then had a quick catch up with a colleague for what the plan is over the weekend and where they will need support.

Kim spent the rest of the afternoon working on her Vancouver office floorplan and made great improvements to it. It’s not quite finished but it is a lot more useful and makes far more sense!

Hockey’s Back

Hockey was on again tonight, starting at 17:00, and it hasn’t been on for over a week as there was a break for the all-star game.

Curtis was happy it was back and was able to watch the whole game when he got home. The Leafs won, too, which was a bonus!

Kim got back home from work and relaxed until hockey was finished and then we made dinner.

We had plant-based mince meat in a spaghetti bolognese as Kim wanted to give it a go.

We watched some TV and just chilled out.

Place 72 – Day 152: Vancouver, BC – Plenty More Snow

Snow

We woke up to even more snow this morning. This was cool, except for the fact the bridge we walk on was completely frozen so we had to walk carefully on the way to work.

Curtis has had quite a bad cold since yesterday, so the -8 temperature didn’t help on the way to work!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis continued to feel rotten all day, but did get a lot done. He fixed a couple of other migrations that were causing him problems, so he got those completed.

He also got a lot of tickets done and had a team meeting.

At 16:00, Curtis left the office to head home and relax as he really wasn’t feeling great.

Kim’s Day

Kim caught up on emails from the weekend and saved a few invoices to start her day.

Just before 10 Kim headed out to look for mini wine glasses and a few bottles of bubbly for a celebration in the morning. When she got back she set it up and all the offices in the company celebrated! It was a really fun morning!

Kim then spent some of her morning trying to.fix an issue with someone’s profile on the travel booking site. After that she had to sort out the postage machine, which also required her calling for support for that!

After both of these Kim ran a raffle to win one of two broken full espresso coffee machines! To ensure fairness Kim had someone else draw out the names, which was lucky as one of her colleagues won!

Kim then spent some time remaking the floor plan as it didn’t save from last time.

She then had a chat with a colleague from a different team in regards to their desk set up, so Kim made a few adjustments and spent some time researching other things that may be able to help!

On the way home Kim stopped at a few shops, one was to pick up some essential oils to put into the humidifier to help Curtis with his cold!

Weekly Clean!

We did our weekly clean this evening, after Kim got home from doing a bit of shopping.

Kim then made a veggie bolognese which was excellent.

We watched some TV and Curtis relaxed and slept at a good time with hopes that he’ll be better tomorrow as he has a hockey game!

Place 81 – Day 11: Orlando,FL – 6.5 Hour Tattoos

Up Early

We were up at a good time to get down to Orlando.

We didn’t eat any breakfast, but we stopped at IHOP on the way, and just as it started to rain, too!

Tattoos

We went from IHOP to a tattoo place. Kim, Abbie & Tom were getting tattoos today.

The tattoos went very well, and the tattoo artist was very knowledgeable, friendly and talented!

Kim and Abbie got a matching tattoo, of interlocking rings.

Kim also got a colourful elephant which has a few significant meanings to her and Abbie also got a flower.

Tom got a chinese inspired tattoo on his back which looks pretty cool.

All-in-all, we were in the tattoo parlour for 6.5 hours! We went to get a coffee briefly, mostly just to kill time, but by the time we left it was 18:00.

Vegan Dinner & A Drag Show?

We planned to go to a drag show today, but first the plan was food!

Abbie is vegetarian, so we wanted to find some food she could eat and the tattoo artist is a vegan, so she recommended some vegan places.

We went to a place right next to where the drag was located.

We aren’t going to rate this place as, being vegan, we aren’t used to the alternatives used so we don’t think it would be fair.

That being said, Curtis got something that was a vegan chicken burger with a side of mac and ‘cheese’, Kim had a ‘pulled pork’ sandwich, Maggie had another sandwich of sorts and Tom had a ‘not-dog’ chilli dog.

Neither of us were overly thrilled with the food, but that wasn’t to say, necessarily, because it was vegan, but it just wasn’t that great. Abbie and Tom both very much enjoyed their food, though and everyone said the ‘not-dogs’ were delicious.

We left here and went round the corner as it was meant to be opening time for the drag show, but it seemed very much empty…and closed!

We went to a bar just down the road, which was owned by the same people, and we found out that it was not on tonight. This was a great shame as Kim was very much looking forward to it, but we did get a refund, after the booking company were very unpleasant on the phone.

Card Games It Is Then

We drove back home and decided that we may as well play card games.

We played about 3 games in total but were all the tired and realised we had to pack, too.

Packing

We got to packing, getting most of it done in the evening.

We have everything ready and now it’s just time to sleep.

Kim’s family are heading back to England tomorrow and we are taking a long bus journey.
