Place 72 – Day 974: Vancouver, BC – Tired Body

We woke up around 11:00 and Curtis’ body felt very tired. He assumes this is from the vaccine.

We had some breakfast, Curtis had scrambled eggs and Kim had french toast.

We relaxed for a bit at home and slowly got ready. Then, Curtis started to feel a little bit better, so we went out to get a coffee and had a bit of a walk.

It was apparently hot outside and neither of us felt 100%, so we stopped a few times and sat on the grass in the shade and just relaxed. In the second spot we sat at, we ended up being next to a cat-gathering, where people had their cats playing together. Weird, but Kim loved it!

We walked back home and when we got back we just sat and did nothing for a while, letting ourselves recoup.

Curtis didn’t feel too great again in the afternoon and his mouth was playing up a little, so Kim went out to the supermarket to get a few things. Curtis will likely be eating soup for the next few days anyway, whilst he still waits for his mouth to heal up.

Kim got home and Curtis had soup for dinner whilst Kim had a meat alternative chicken and rice meal which was…okay.

We relaxed together and got ourselves prepared for work tomorrow.

Place 72 – Day 973: Vancouver, BC – Double Vaxxed!

We woke up at 10:00 and had some breakfast. Curtis finally got to have some more solid food, scrambled eggs!

We then got ourselves ready and walked downtown to get our 2nd vaccine shot.

We got there and there was actually less of a wait than last time and we got through pretty quick. Curtis was glad as he got to lay down for his again and we were in and our fast!

We got a coffee on the way home and once we got home we watched some TV and relaxed for a bit, just making sure we took it easy.

Curtis’ mouth is feeling pretty good still. A bit of a weird feeling now, but not pain and there’s just a tiny bit of swelling.

Kim built our ‘bar’ that we bought from IKEA a while ago! This is to house our booze but also to be used as a coffee bar! Curtis got that setup as so and it’s not perfect but it’s closer to being so. Just need a tray for underneath everything.

After that, Kim hung up our awesome Highland cow picture we have had for a while but just not got around to hanging up. This also cleaned up a bunch of room and looks amazing!

We did a bit more tidying after this and then decided on some food. Curtis still can’t really eat anything too solid, or at least he doesn’t feel like he should yet, so he had soup and Kim had a salad.

We relaxed and watched a movie for the rest of the evening, we’re expecting to get hit with the post-vaccine symptoms any time tonight or tomorrow, but we’re drinking a lot of water to hopefully stop that from happening.

Place 72 – Day 923: Vancouver, BC – Very Little Side Effects!

Side Effects

We both woke up and felt pretty alright post vaccine.

Curtis’ muscles felt a little weird and walking felt like he was floating for the first couple of hours of the day, but after that he was all good. Kim has no side effects and Curtis’ arm actually stopped hurting by the evening which is excellent! Pretty lucky on our part.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had some tickets to do in the morning but had no meetings until around 11:00.

At 11:00, Curtis had his meeting with someone to help them with an issue they had and it was a quick call.

He was then able to complete some more tickets before lunch.

After lunch, Curtis had a team meeting that actually overran as they were all having a good chat about random things! That took him to the end of the day.

Curtis actually got a new headset for his Xbox in the mail, so he set that up and played some games whilst Kim was on a work call.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a slightly slower morning today, she got ready at her own pace and made sure she was feeling okay from the vaccination. She felt fine and went right into a meeting to go over planning and next steps for a few things.

She then joined a few check in meetings before having a discussion about hiring. For the early afternoon Kim ordered the remaining gift cards.

Before the trivia night Kim had another quick planning session and then she joined a call to help set up the event.

For the afternoon Kim joined in the trivia games! There were quizzes, tongue twisters and then everyone jumped into a game of skribbl. It was so much fun and Kim especially enjoyed it as she helped with the set up before but was able to just join in and enjoy the event. After a few people stayed to play more games and just hang out and chat. It was so great!

Evening

It was double takeaway week, as Friday has to be a takeaway day and yesterday we had pizza as a celebration to getting our first vaccine.

We ordered some McDonald’s and ate that whilst watching some TV. We had some drinks earlier in the evening and were feeling those, so the food was a big help!

We relaxed for the evening and neither of us could believe it was already the weekend!

Place 72 – Day 922: Vancouver, BC – 1st Vaccine!

Vaccine!

We got up and had some breakfast together and then very quickly got ready and walked all the way down to the convention centre to get our first vaccine!

We got there and entered, to then swap out our masks with a medical one and queue for about 10 minutes.

We then had to prove we had an appointment and check in, before being put into another queue to get the vaccine.

As always, Curtis was likely going to faint, so when we were directed to the person vaccinating us, Curtis let them know and they took him to the first aid area which had beds! He got to lay down whilst they vaccinated him! He then had no issues what do ever and didn’t faint! This was great.

Kim got her vaccine and then we had to wait for 15 minutes after.

We left and both felt great, with relief that we’re yet another step closer to ‘normal’.

We grabbed a coffee on the walk home and then both did work.

Curtis’ Day

After getting back home, Curtis got right into doing some work.

He had a few messages to answer from people as well as some tickets.

Curtis had to deal with a security issue which has been on the radar for a bit of time now, so he did that for a lot of the day.

He had a 1 on 1 and then finished the day with some project work, some admin and more tickets.

Kim’s Day

When she got back Kim joined a meeting halfway through and joined in. It was so interesting and she was so sad to have missed the first half. She then joined the weekly recruitment meeting and then had a great check in with one of her teammates.

Towards the end of the day Kim supported a team with their RACI and started to work out where responsibilities lie within the team. Then she joined a meeting with another team to discuss their hiring and next steps.

To finish the day Kim had an end of day check in with her managers and then another quick check in with a couple of department heads to make a couple of hiring decisions.

Celebratory Pizza!

We went out to get pizza from our favourite pizza place once Kim was done with work.

We got our favourite pizza as a celebration for getting our vaccine! We ate this whilst we chilled out and watched some TV. We did absolutely nothing for the evening and we hope that we don’t get any vaccine side effects tonight or tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 921: Vancouver, BC – We Can Now Use It!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting at 09:00 to discuss a few things about the office and people returning post COVID and what his team needs to do to prepare for that.

He got some tickets done and then had a quick team meeting for 30 minutes to discuss projects.

Once the meeting was complete, Curtis had to disable and offboard an account so he got that done then he had to review some security documents.

Curtis finished up a project that has been active for a while, which he was thankful for, and then after lunch he had a quick team meeting followed by a meeting with one of his colleagues to create a document that is needed for a process.

Curtis got some mandatory security training completed at the end of the day and did some more admin, then he was done.

Kim’s Day

To start her day Kim had a quick check in with a teammate before joining two meetings with marketing. The first was general support and working on stuff together and the second was the regular recruitment meeting. She then joined her weekly team meeting before having another donut date with someone from another department.

Towards the end of the morning Kim joined an interview and then had a quick review and chat with the hiring manager. It was so great to catch up and just hang out for a bit.

In the afternoon Kim had organised a meeting with a couple of hiring managers to get her new team members up to speed on how recruitment has been for the past few months and just set aside time for everyone to meet, ask questions and hang out. She then had an end of day check in with a teammate and then joined another interview.

In the early evening she had a mini check in with a couple of her teammates and then that moved into a meeting with a department head which turned into a lovely chat and 1-1 catch up.

Evening

We had pasta for dinner and then we went for our usual evening walk. The weather was beautiful today, 28°C, so we made the most of that in the evening, when it was a little less baking warm but still beautiful weather.

We tested our enterphone setup and that seems to work, meaning we can actually get deliveries now, which is exciting!

We got home and just relaxed.

We have our first vaccine tomorrow! We have to be there for 10:00 so we’re getting up, having a decent breakfast and then walking down to the convention centre.

Place 72 – Day 903: Vancouver, BC – Vaccine Booked!

We both woke up to messages about booking our first vaccine, so we booked that in and we are ready to go for June 3rd!

We got up, happy to have got booked in, and Kim went out to get strawberries and banana so we could have them with French toast.

We had that and then slowly got ourselves ready to go out.

We did our usual walk and had beautiful weather for it! We did turn around and head back home a little earlier than usual as we went to look for some snacks, but didn’t find anything we wanted, so we got a nice different walk route out of it which was a good change.

We got back home and we were both pretty hungry, so we made some rice to go with our leftover chicken.

After dinner, we watched some more TV and chilled out.

Place 72 – Day 901: Vancouver, BC – FINALLY Got The Permit

Curtis’ Day

Well, Curtis’ day isn’t very interesting in writing, but he actually had a good day and learned a lot!

Today was day 1 of Curtis’ workshop with Microsoft to learn about everything Microsoft Teams!

The full day of learning was intensive but actually very rewarding and it helped Curtis and his team figure out about how they will move forward with a project, so certainly worth it.

Curtis finished his day with a few catch ups with his team about this and then checked in on some tickets and other things, then he was done.

Kim’s Day

To start the day Kim had a one month check in for a new employee. They then all had a quick meeting with with another department to answer a couple of questions.

Kim then joined and interview and went straight from that into another new starter check in before joining a weekly recruitment meeting. After those meetings Kim joined a call to review a software to make sure it is sustainable for the company and will be able to support in all the ways that the team needs.

While she made and ate her lunch Kim joined another departments meeting to observe a system they are setting up so she can implement it in her team. It was really interesting and Kim learnt a lot and had a great time talking with the team. She then joined another meeting and had a bunch of quick check ins and chats with a few people during the time if a cancelled meeting. One was to get updates on projects that are ongoing and another two were just general check ins and updates from Kim .

To finish the day Kim had a chat with a hiring team to discuss all of the candidates that had recently been met with to review and make plans for the next steps.

Finally Got The Permit!

Kim’s work permit finally arrived in the mail today! She had a permit, technically, but wouldn’t be able to prove it as she didn’t have the physical permit. Kim now has this (after having to chase!) and is now good to go. We can also renew our driving licenses!

We had homemade fried lemon chicken with rice for dinner and then went out for a nice late evening walk.

We got back and watched some TV before heading to bed.

We found out we can book our first vaccine tomorrow, which is excellent!

Place 72 – Day 864: Vancouver, BC – Sofa Is Built & Registered For Vaccine!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went to the office in the morning and had to setup 2 laptops, as well as find equipment to send out to the new hires.

The office is running low on equipment before they get an order, so finding some items was a bit of a challenge.

Curtis finished that up at about 12:00 and then did some tickets whilst he waited for someone to arrive to collect a monitor.

Once that person was gone, Curtis had a meeting with a colleague to discuss a process and then once he was done with that meeting, he walked home and had some lunch.

After lunch, he had to generate some reports for someone and had some tickets to deal with which took him nicely to the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a day full of back to back meetings and interviews! In the morning Kim had her team meeting to go over the plan for the week. She went from this into an interview, then straight into the weekly meeting and then into a second interview. She then had a meeting with the hiring managers to discuss the interviews. It was a really productive and interesting morning!

To start the afternoon Kim had a meeting about planning and next steps for a project. It was so interesting and it turns out Kim was approaching it all the wrong way, she learnt so much!

For a good chunk of the afternoon Kim worked with her teammate on setting up interviews and sending out paperwork. She then had a chat with another teammate before heading out to the new apartment to continue building the sofa. She also had a great chat with a friend while she did the final bits to the sofa.

Sofa Is Built & Registered For Vaccine!

Before work this morning, we registered for our notification to get a vaccine! We don’t get a vaccine for a while, but a new registration site went live so you can get instructions and a code for when you can get a vaccine.

This makes it feel just that little bit closer!

After work, Kim went over to the apartment to complete the sofa as the items we were missing arrived in the mail and we now have a constructed sofa, which is great.

Kim chatted with a friend after that and then headed back to our current apartment so we could have some dinner.

We ate delicious lemon chicken!

We got notice that there will be a viewing tomorrow, which is the first one with the new owners. We’ve been enjoying not having any, and our final week is the worst possible time, but what can we do. That’ll be happening tomorrow evening but maybe we get out for an evening walk.

Place 72 – Day 469: Vancouver, BC – Flu Vaccination

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a bit longer of a sleep today, waking up at 09:30 and then he had some breakfast and showered.

Curtis played games for pretty much the whole day, but there was a bit of research and a chat with Kim about stuff, too.

We went to get our flu vaccination at 14:30 today and, as you’d expect, Curtis almost fainted from it, but not quite!

We finished those up and came back home.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim started by looking over some applications for the new role they are hiring for. She added notes to the candidates that she likes and tagged colleagues in to take a look.

Kim presented her facilities project to the executive team today! She prepared by updating a spreadsheet she received at the beginning of the day with her notes alongside the pros and cons of each of the options. Kim then presented the options to the executive team and it went really well! They like the options and Kim is about right on budget and timeline, so that was great.

From this meeting Kim joined an interview. She took notes for most of it, but also asked a few questions at the end. It was really interesting. Kim then played her first game in the connect four tournament, she won both games, but they were very close and good fun! Before having lunch Kim sent out the invites for the connect four games next week.

After lunch Kim set up the gift exchange for the winter party coming up and then she made some updates to the new HR system.

After the jabs Kim worked on resetting a laptop and setting up HR accounts for the new starters. She also gave all the current employees access. She then spent a while sending out the new hire packets and updating information in the system

Evening

We watched some TV and had homemade lemon chicken for dinner.

We played some games together and then watched a bit more Alex Rider which is a pretty good show! We’re enjoying it.

Place 72 – Day 467: Vancouver, BC – A Week Off!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis woke up at 09:30 and had some breakfast.

Whilst he ate and a bit thereafter, he did his Norwegian homework in time for his lesson tomorrow.

Curtis played a lot of games today, but he did also receive the information he needed from work for his visa application, so he put all of that on his visa profile, but he needs to wait to submit until Kim has her consultation tomorrow.

Curtis also got some research done for our visas, to confirm a few things, and find some questions for Kim to ask tomorrow.

In the afternoon, after some lunch, Curtis went down to the drug store to book in for a flu shot, so we are both booked in for Wednesday now!

That was it for productiveness for the day, as Curtis just played games until he met with Kim to go to the shop.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent the day in the office today. When she arrived there were a lot of flies and bugs, so Kim made a couple of DIY fly catchers of clingfilm with little holes in it over a glass that has sugar and maple syrup in it.

She then went over the new HR system with her colleague by sending a new hire a lot of information and forms for them to complete and fill out. Kim the. Had a meeting with the new hire she had been helping over the weekend to finished setting her up and took her through the new hire packet that had been sent over. It was also very productive as they mentioned a few things that needed tweaking on the system and then Kim was able to contact the company there and then to make those changes.

Once Kim passed the new hire to their manager for the day she popped to a couple of shops to get a few things for the office like fly traps, paper towels and more hand sanitizer.

Kim was then back in the office for a short time before heading out to pick up a laptop from the CEO. It was so strange that it was her first time meeting him! She drove over, got the laptop and then they had a lovely quick chat before Kim left.

Once she was back in the office again Kim quickly ate before working on Bamboo again with her colleague. They used setting up her account as a test to see some of the functions of the system. It was great to have an option to run through it again so soon after the morning.

At the end of the day Kim joined a call in preparation for a meeting tomorrow. They ironed our a few last minute details and then Kim made a few purchases before heading home.

Evening

We did the shopping and when we got back home, around 19:00, we made some sweet chilli potato wedges for dinner.

We ate those and chatted about our day and watched some TV for the remainder of the evening.
