Place 72 – Day 891: Vancouver, BC – Day Off, Kinda

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a nice slow start to the day and then it ramped right up with a lot of tickets coming in.

Curtis had a team meeting at 10:30 and then continued with getting many tickets done, up until lunch.

The afternoon was much of the same, though there were also some discussions about different topics which were both interesting and important.

Curtis watched hockey whilst Kim was in her evening meeting.

Kim’s Day

This week Kim’s company is off, so there are no meetings or expectations. She, and a couple of others, have decided to continue to do interviews to not hold up the recruitment process.

Kim had one interview in the late morning then she popped out to update the car insurance and pick up sandwiches for lunch.

In the afternoon Kim had another interview and then reviewed candidates in the pipeline for a couple of the roles that are open.

It was a fun and lazy day!

Evening

We had tuna pasta for dinner as well as some leftover potato salad.

We then, after relaxing for a little bit, headed to the supermarket as we hadn’t yet done it over the weekend!

We got our items and headed home, getting back around 22:00. A late shop visit for sure, but there weren’t many people around, which was great.

We watched some TV and relaxed for the remainder of the night.

Place 72 – Day 219: Vancouver, BC – Morning Walk, Stretches & Daily Workout!

Morning Walk

We were up at 07:45 today and went right out for a walk.

We walked for about 30 minutes and then got ready for the day.

Kim did a few stretches when we got back, which really helped her.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a lot of meeting today, starting with his team meeting at 10:30, but he did some admin and tickets before that.

Curtis had some time after that, so helped some people with tickets.

At 12:00, Curtis had a project meeting which was very positive and helpful, followed by a meeting at 13:00 with his team again to discuss a few things that needed to be spoken about.

After that, Curtis had lunch with Kim, some toasties and vegetables, and then in the afternoon he made a Microsoft Forms form to log equipment that people have borrowed and then he had to help someone with a few different issues at the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by working on stuff for when she will be back in the office.

Towards the middle of the day Kim joined a few other colleagues for some Yoga, its one of the things that has bee revived for while everyone working remotely. We have one person share their screen and everyone follows along at home, it was great!

After yoga Kim worked on a one page overview for the winter party in Vancouver. She also took a little time to look into options for the other offices.

After lunch Kim worked on the Vancouver winter party a little more and contacted a venue with some questions!

For the afternoon Kim started to put together a quiz that people will be able to play remotely, but all together!

At the end of the day Kim was joined a team catch up. It was great t see everyone’s faces and see how they are all doing.

Workout

We decided it was probably good to do a workout each day, as we should only really be going outside for a little each day, so we did that after work.

We chucked some music on and found an app which has a 2 week workout plan, which we started.

We think this nearly killed us, but it should do us some good, especially as neither of us can do our regular sports.

We finished that and showered, but Kim did some more stretching.

We relaxed for the rest of the evening, had a tuna baked potato and watched some TV and we played some Need For Speed together!

Place 72 – Day 199: Vancouver, BC – Adding a Coat Rack

Curtis’ Day

Curtis didnt have much planned, but ended up having a very busy morning!

He had shook bwe interesting tickets which kept him busy and he had to investigate things, which he loves doing.

He had a 6 month check in and then had a meeting regarding a laptop auction his company is having for employees.

After lunch, Curtis worked on some revisions to a process he created yesterday, with the help of feedback from his team, and he got that all completed.

Curtis did some reading in the afternoon of his business analysis book and also had a beer with a colleague.

Curtis is in work from 06:00-14:00 tomorrow as he is being on hand for Black Friday.

Kim’s Day

When Kim got in she started with her emails as there were a few responses from vendors and hotels that she had been waiting for. She then called a hotel to confirm bookings for two people coming to the office in a few weeks.

As Kim was working away, she noticed a visitor had come in and then realised it was their hotel rep, a few moment later kims colleague walked around the corner and said she forgot to invite Kim to the meeting, but if Kim has time to come in. So Kim had an impromptu and important meeting where they ironed out a few things and made some great plans for the future.

After the meeting Kim spent the rest of her day organising still for the party. She made a guest list for the office party in Toronto that is happening tomorrow, finalised the food menu and drew up a drinks menu. It was a really productive afternoon!

New Coat Rack

We both got home and watched a bit of TV and relaxed.

Kim went out to the shop to get some pasta and also to buy a coat hanger from Homesense.

Curtis ate pizza whilst Kim was out and then when Kim got back, we put up the new coat rack/shelf on the wall, which looks awesome!

We got that done and then Kim had tuna and pasta, whilst we watched Silicon Valley.

We watched one more show after we both got showered for tomorrow and then went to bed a little earlier than usual so Curtis can be up for 05:00!

Place 72 – Day 62: Vancouver, BC – Free Fancy Lunch & 20,000 Views!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis spent his morning catching up on tickets from yesterday, as well as setting up a laptop for someone to replace their old one.

A lot of new tickets came in throughout the day in general, so Curtis was very busy!

Curtis learned a few things today, as well as spent a while trying to fix a specific problem.

For lunch, Curtis went to the food truck directly outside his office building and got a buritto bowl.

The afternoon wasn’t much less busy and Curtis was juggling multiple things at once.

Some things needed testing around 16:50 for a change that was happening in the evening, so Curtis helped with that and then left for the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent most of her day on just a few things. When Kim got in she started her day by going through her template emails and adjusting them slightly.

Then Kim moved on to updating her contact and info list of vendors she has frequently used. It’s much easier to have everything saved in one place with active links rate than checking multiple areas!

Kim then spent some time trying to get a quote that she requested yesterday. Having received no answer from one of the companies Kim proceeded to place an order with a different company.

Kim then headed out with a colleague to a local hotel to join their sales rep for lunch. It was a great way to properly and informally catch up. It was also a great excuse to sample a few dishes from their sharing menu. They started with a lovely beetroot and cheese dish, it was so beautiful and tasted phenomenal. Then the show started!

The whole table was covered in plates! There was, scallops, squid, tuna mac and cheese, brocollini, korean chicken, a quinoa salad and a lovely egg plant dish. The girls tucked in and Kim even tried a bit of a scallop. It wasn’t lovely but it wasn’t the worst food she has ever eaten! After trying all that food, and even boxing up a little to take home, they then brought out a small dessert platter! The platter had 3 little blueberry tarts, orange cheesecake and a little chocolate orange truffle. Just the right amount after a massive feast!

After lunch had flown by, Kim’s colleague had to head back to the office while Kim got a tour of one of the rooms, a few of the meeting rooms, the ballroom and the amenities room. It was so lovely to see the hotel and be able to make solid recommendations to any visitors we may have while Kim is here in Vancouver.

When Kim rolled herself back to work she found a few items on her desk that needed to be sent out. She popped them all in envelopes and was ready to use the post stampy machine thing to weigh and out the postage on the envelopes. However, when she went to do it, the machine had an error. After about 5 attempts of trying to call and receiving a dead line and one answer and being hung up on, Kim eventually spoke to someone to trouble shoot the issue and walk her through putting the machine through it’s update. After that long call Kim was able to put the postage on the items and have them ready to be sent out.

Kim then focused her attention to completing the booking for the bus hire for the upcoming summer party.

After she made progress with the paperwork for the bus company Kim then looked into and contacted a company about a cake that needs to be ordered. She emailed the company and then left to go home! It was a productive and filling day!

Today, we hit 20,000 blog views! Thank you all so much, especially if you read the blog every day!

When we got home, we went right out for a walk. The weather was perfect for a stroll, so we walked and discussed our days some more.

Once we arrived back at our apartment, Kim had a tuna sandwich and Curtis had some toast as we both had big lunches so we didn’t need any proper dinner.

We sat and started the new series of Lucifer and then had a bit of an earlier night, in comparison to recent evenings.

Place 72 – Day 57: Vancouver, BC – Quarry Rock & Honey Doughnuts

Quarry Rock Hike

We were up at 08:00 and had bagels for breakfast.

We left the house around 10:15 and walked to the train station. We caught a train to the city to then catch a bus.

We got on the bus which took us all the way to Deep Cove, about 45 minutes from downtown Vancouver.

We got off the bus and just started walking. We walked for a bit and then noticed a sign saying we had gone the wrong way and had to turn back and walk all the way back to where we had come from! Luckily, other people had done the same so we weren’t all alone. We also got to see some really nice houses here, so not all was lost.

Once we returned to the right place, we began the walk up to Quarry Rock.

The trail up to the rock was 1.2km with the majority of it being on stairs but through some gorgeous woodland and higher up and up the mountain.

It took us about 30-45 minutes to get to the top, dodging people and crossing rivers (on bridges).

Once we got to the top, we had a stunning view! The weather wasn’t great, so there was no sun, but it was still nice to sit down and admire.

We walked back down the trail as we were very hungry and thirsty!

Lunch & Doughnuts

We were recommended a cafe called Cafe Orso so we went in, grabbed a table and each got a coffee.

Along with the coffee, we got half a tuna melt each with a tomato bisque, which was great!

Rating:- 8.5/10

We left after our lunch, incredibly full, and went for a bit of a walk and sit down by the beach.

We then went to Honey Doughnuts to see what all the fuss was about. This place was recommended to us by more than one person and the queue was out the door, so we had thought it would mean it was amazing!

We weren’t amazed by the doughnuts, they were just OK. Kim had a chocolate glazed and Curtis had a cinnamon sugar.

We left here and had a bit of a sit down whilst we ate.

We then left and caught the bus back, which took about 50 minutes.

We stopped off at the liquor store and bought some cans of Jameson, Giner & Lime to try.

Evening

We got a lot of admin done in the evening, as well as going for an evening walk.

We weren’t hungry after our lunch so Kim had a salad and Curtis had some toast.

We watched some TV and went to bed. We were exhausted!
