Place 72 – Day 396: Vancouver, BC – Sunday

We woke up and spoke with Curtis’ family for an hour or so, which was a really nice catch up.

We had breakfast after this, which was similar to yesterday’s.

We did pretty much nothing for the rest of the day. Played some games, watched some TV shows.

We had some leftovers for dinner from yesterday’s delicious fried rice and then we went down to Dairy Queen to get a blizzard ice cream!

We got back and watched some TV, then Kim had a bath and relaxed.

We finished the evening with a hot chocolate and then headed to bed, ready to go back to doing work again.

Place 72 – Day 392: Vancouver, BC – Smokey Skies

Haircut

We woke up and Kim went out to get some croissants for breakfast. We heated those up and had them with some butter and that was a delicious start to the day!

We then got ready for the day and once we were ready, we went out to get a coffee. We wanted to go to Small Victory but the queue was too long for the time we had so we went to Starbucks instead.

The skies today are incredibly smokey, so much so that it can be seen and you can smell/taste the smoke. This is due to the wildfires in the US.

Once we got the coffee, Curtis had to go down to get a haircut!

He arrived and was right in the chair! He had a nice chat with his barber and got his haircut, of course.

Birthday Present Shopping

Kim went out whilst Curtis was having his haircut to get some birthday presents for Curtis as well as some other things.

Kim went to a place and got a present and then tried to go to another place but it would have taken far too long so she left and went on to Metropolis in Burnaby to get some work shoes and some other presents.

Kim did the small food shop on the way home and then when she got back home, we had some food!

Breakfast For Dinner

We had breakfast for dinner which was delicious! We ate this and watched some TV, followed by some Tony Hawk and a little more TV.

Place 72 – Day 389: Vancouver, BC – Post Work Nap

Curtis’ Day

The start to Curtis’ day was quite slow.

Curtis had a 1 on 1 meeting and then a team meeting after that.

He got some admin completed and then some tickets before he had another team meeting to discuss some process changes and then he had some lunch.

After lunch, Curtis did a bunch of tickets, which all seemed to come in at once. Most of these were giving permissions to people, though one was getting some usage stats for someone.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with a donut catchup with someone in the UK and someone in Boston! It was so lovely to just relax and hang out. It was an easy-going conversation too!

After this Kim took the car to pick up some plastic spray bottles for the office from canadian tire. She dropped those off at work while she picked up a load of stuff that she is donating to a local youth centre. It was another cars worth, so when she got to the centre, she parked out back and unloaded the car. Its cleared out so much space in the office and Kim also took some stuff from home too!

After Kim had been in the office for a while she hosted a game time. As connect four was so successful last time Kim decided to try it again. 3 other people joined and everyone played everyone and it was so much fun!

She then updated Survey Monkey to a paid account as on the free version Kim was only able to view the first 40 responses. As its been updated, Kim is now able to export the information. This means that some of the work she did yesterday is pointless, bur it saves kim some work going forward.

Kim grabbed some lunch in mid afternoon and then spent the last bit of the day working out who is okay for Kim ro clear their desks. As Megadesk has been okaied Kim now has to empty out all the desks. Some people will come in to clear their stuff themselves, but for some desks Kim will box stuff up, label it and store it around the office.

Post Work Nap

After Kim got home, we had a lay down and ended up having a nap! It did Kim wonders and she felt amazing. Curtis on the other hand didn’t feel great, but eventually he woke up a bit.

We played some Tony Hawk and then Kim went off to pole, which she was very refreshed for now!

When Kim got home, we had homemade chicken nuggets with curly fries for dinner and watched some TV.

Place 72 – Day 386: Vancouver, BC – Clearing Stuff Out

We woke up at 10:30 and both actually felt really good after our night of sleep.

We had cheese toasties for breakfast and then got ready for the day.

Once we got ready, we relaxed and had leftover pizza as a snack along with homemade Vietnamese coffee which turned out much better than the last time.

We finished that and then went to the shop to get our weekly shop done.

After the shop, we went down to the storage locker and loaded a bunch of stuff we are going to donate into the car. Kim is also donating a bunch of stuff from work, so it makes sense to donate it all at the same time.

Once that was done, Kim started on making dinner.

Kim made a Thai red curry along with a lazy egg. It was terrific!

We watched some YouTube videos during dinner and then played some more Tony Hawk after eating.

Place 72 – Day 385: Vancouver, BC – Grouse Grind, Bears & Dead Battery!

Grouse Grind

We were up at 08:30 and had some egg on toast for breakfast.

After breakfast, we got ready and then Curtis went down to the drug store to get Mars bars and Red Bull.

We then left the apartment and went down to the car to drive up to Grouse Mountain!

We got to the mountain and started making our way up. The Grouse Grind is notorious for being pretty tough, with its 2000+ stairs (plus rocks to climb up etc) & 2 hour completion time!

We started the hike and saw a squirrel right away, which was a great start!

The further up we got, the more challenging it became and we did have to stop quite a few times to regain our breath and stamina.

Towards the end, we got into the clouds and could even see them moving around us.

We eventually got to the top in just 1 hour 20 minutes, which we were very happy with!

Bears!

At the top, there are a few things to do, such as food, drink, disc golf and a bear enclosure!

We obviously had to go and see the bears, so we did just that.

We spent a while looking at the bears and they were pretty active. One of them even had a bath!

Once we were done with the bears, we walked to grab a quick beer before heading down on the gondola!

The beer was perfectly refreshing and just what we needed.

After such as awesome day, we got in the distanced gondola and made our way to the bottom of the mountain.

Once we got there, there was a Starbucks, so we grabbed a coffee and went to the car.

Dead Battery

Once we got in the car, we tried to start it and nothing happened!

Turns out, the battery had died, but we hadn’t left anything on so it must have been it’s time.

We eventually found a tow company that could come and help us, but after we scheduled with them, a couple said they would help jump start us and that worked perfectly, so we cancelled the tow truck and drove to Canadian Tire to get the battery changed!

We got that booked in and had to wait about 30/40 minutes for that to be swapped over, so we did a bit of shopping.

We got a wok which we’ve wanted for a while and then went to the liquor store to get some beer for tonight, which we needed for sure!

We got our car and headed back home.

First Ever Poutine!

We showered when we got home and then ordered some food.

We wanted to try poutine for the first time, so we ordered a burger each with a side ceasar salad each and a side of poutine and some sweet potato fries.

We watched the film ‘love Guaranteed’ which wasn’t great, but was something to watch.

We played some more Tony Hawk Skateboarding and watched a bit more TV but we were very tired after our long hike!

Place 72 – Day 384: Vancouver, BC – Handstand Training!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a pretty quiet day.

Curtis did some tickets in the morning and he spent a while trying to fix something with regards to an email mailbox which he worked with someone on for about 30 minutes before lunch and then a bit of time after lunch too.

Curtis had a team building session in the afternoon but on 4 people in total joined that, so they played some games.

Curtis got some admin done to end the week.

Kim’s Day

Kim started on the UK social call and it was good fun. There were a fair few people on the call and we went over our to do lists that we are all putting off. The UK had a bank holiday this Monday and America and Canada have one this monday coming, so everyone had lots of little tasks they have either ignored or planned to ignore!

Once she was in the office Kim focused on putting together a survey that would be sent out later in the day. She hadn’t used SurveyMonkey before but she figured it out and even managed to get a page break with info there! Not bad for a first try. Kim then made a few changes to the Wiki page from yesterday before moving on to change another Wiki page to follow the same format of latest news at the top, but with previous information just below. Once that was all done she sent them all off for review.

Just before the survey went out Kim went in and updated the Wiki by replacing old pages and linking all of them together. She then joined east coast call but only had one person join, ask what it was about and then leave. So she ended the call and focused on adding some more information to the floor plan page. Kim thought it would be a good idea to include some photos of the new things in the kitchen, so she took some photos and added them to the Wiki.

In the afternoon Kim went out with a friend for ice cream and it was a disaster! Before they got the few steps back to the office the ice cream started melting. When they finally got to start eating them they had to use a plate and a bowl to stop it going all over the floor and themselves. It was a good ice cream though!!

She ended the day by joining the west coast social call! It was a good group of people and Kim really enjoyed it!

Evening

Kim went off to training once she got back from work.

Kim went to a handstand class and had a great time! It was a good workout and she got a few good techniques from it that she will use for sure!

Once she got back, Kim got showered and then we had some frozen pizza for dinner as we couldn’t decide what to order!

We are that and watched some TV and played some games!
