Place 72 – Day 209: Vancouver, BC – The Tree Is Up!

Morning Pole

Kim went out to pole right away in the morning. She was really excited to try a few moves that she was yet to try, and she got some more moves sorted and put together that she may be able to use for a routine!

Curtis did the laundry whilst Kim was out and it felt like a productive morning.

Coffee With A Friend

Kim got back but went right back out again, for a coffee with a friend from pole.

Once Kim was done with her coffee, which she got to chat about a lot of things with her new friend which was great.

An Iron & Bulbs

We went to get some food dinner, but also stopped at Canadian Tire as we finally need to buy an iron for us to use when we go to Kim’s Holiday party. We also got some lightbulbs as we need to replace a few in our apartment.

We got back home after getting all we needed to and replaced the bulbs we needed to and then we did a bit more laundry.

Veggie Roast

We watched some TV and then decided we wanted to make food, so Kim did just that.

We had a veggie roast again, because that’s proper Sunday food!

The food was delicious, as ever.

Tree Is Up!

We put up the Christmas tree, and put some decorations on it.

We haven’t finished yet, but it’s pretty much done…It looks a bit like a Christmas tree!

Messy Lunch Fail

We watched more TV, most notably the Last Leg.

Curtis made lunches, and originally Kim was going to have leftovers from tonight, so Curtis put some in a pot and went to put it in the fridge. As he did so, it somehow opened and dropped from his hand, throwing all the food inside the fridge!

Due to this, we had to take a shelf out and 2 draws and clean it. It was probably overdue anyway, so was good to get done.

Place 72 – Day 67: Vancouver, BC – Meeting With a Billionaire!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and was notified about a security issue with Zoom, the video meeting software, which had just been announced by someone.

Curtis and his colleagues looked into this pretty much all morning and trying to find the best fix or work around for it, as well as notifiying all affected users.

Part way through this, there was a fire drill at Curtis’ office so he had to make his way outside and stand out there for a while.

After the drill, it was a mad rush of 20 floors worth of people trying to get up in the elevators, so to avoid that, Curtis and some colleagues went to buy a coffee.

Once Curtis got back, he joined a Zoom call which the person that found the security issue had started and low and behold, the Zoom CEO was in there answering questions! He was even offering free T-shirts. Curtis sat in there listening to all of the information for a while, before he had other things to do.

Curtis tried to re-image a Mac but it wasn’t having any of it, so that took up a big chunk of the afternoon.

Curtis has 2 new users to setup tomorrow, so he’ll be doing that for a chunk of the day as well as 2 meetings.

Curtis left work and met with Kim to walk home.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim walked the opposite way to work and popped to save on foods to pick up a massive cake for a celebration that was happening in the office later on in the day. Kim had intended to pick it up and walk the usual route to work, but it was a very big cake and very heavy so she decided to take the tube thing.
Once she made it into the city she walked the few blocks into work and was greeted in the downstairs lobby by tonnes of people and lots of music. It was a lot for pre 9am!

Kim made it upstairs and set the cake down to find out that the building is hosting a Tennant appreciation breakfast! So Kim and a few people went down, joined the line and took some food back upstairs. What a strange start to the day.
Kim was getting settled into her day and then saw a notification that a new starter was coming in shortly so Kim checked her desk again to make sure it was clean and had everything the new hire would need. In the few moments Kim was away from her desk, the new hire arrived.

Kim then took the lady on a tour of the companies floor, the 25th floor and to see the building amenities. They then tried to get a security pass but the staff were busy with the breakfast function.

The fruit then arrived so Kim went and organised all of that, with the help of 2 great guys! She also put together a small fruit bowl for her colleagues working on a different floor and ran that up to them with a small selection of soft drinks!
Kim then sat down and actually started some work for the day. She also had a catch up with her colleague and got some cool mini side tasks to get on with for some of the other summer parties, one of which meant reaching out to companies in the UK. Its been a while since Kim had to do that!

Then we had the catering arrive for a large group so Kim spent some time reorganising the space to fit the food and laying out the food. Once that had been done Kim was able to run the cake out.
While the group ate and enjoyed cake Kim managed to get some of the day to day tasks done of saving invoices and other fun things!

Once the team finished eating Kim went in to clear the area and pit it back to normal. She also popped the leftover food in the kitchen.

It was then eventually lunchtime so Kim and her colleague sat down and had a good chat. It was really nice!

After lunch Kim took some time to catch up on some of the background onboarding tasks that are to be completed on the first day like sorting the employee photo and sending out some useful information. Its better late than never!

It was then time to try to get the new hire and a visitor from another office their security passes so they all popped to the main floor to sort this and found out that that service is only offered 9-10 am so they agreed to try again the next day.

The rest of the afternoon Kim spent placing orders and sending emails, not all too exciting but it has to be done! She also set up another fruit bowl for tomorrows meetings as today’s went down so well.

Derry Girls

We got back to watching some other TV as we’ve finished Lucifer, so we watched The Last Leg as well as continued Derry Girls, which is hilarious!

We had leftover bolognese with spaghetti, some nice baguette and a side ceasar salad for dinner.

We did very little else for the rest of the evening and went to bed at a good time again.

Place 49 – Day 351: Auckland – Picnic & Auckland Night Market

We woke up and had a small breakfast before Kim spoke with her family for a couple of hours.

When we were going to get showered, we noticed the water wasn’t very hot at all. We left it for 30 minutes and then it seemed back to normal, which was a relief!

We then went out to see our friends Vicki & Mike, and their children! We went to a park and had a nice little picnic and a catch up. The weather was much better today and the sun even warmed us up at times!

We then left the park and made our way back home to relax for a bit, before goung to Glenfield Mall for the night market, which happens at different locations around Auckland on different days of the week.

There is mostly food there, but a few other shops too.

We wanted some Asian food so, after having a walk around and even trying some Hungarian thin bread, which was tasty, we got a bao and some breaded chicken which we ate whilst walking around.

Before we left, we got some sweet chilli chicken with noodles as our main and a cheesecake dessert for Kim.

We got home and are our dinner whilst watching The Last Leg and then at 22:00, we spoke with Curtis’ family for a catch-up, which was lovely.

Place 49 – Day 340: Auckland – Urgent Action Required!

Curtis’ Day;

The day was busy right from the get-go!

Curtis was asked to do 7 seperate things urgently before 12:00. He was asked around 08:30-09:00 so only had a few hours to complete these tasks…he also wasn’t entirely sure how to do them!

After finally getting these done, Curtis then had to remote onto a machine to give access to a server but that didn’t work, so Curtis planned to have lunch.

Unfortunately, Curtis had to do something else which took two hours to complete so Curtis had no time for lunch!

Curtis left the office at 15:20 and drove home…today was a difficult day for the brain.

Both of us;

Kim went to the shop and got some essentials whilst Curtis did the ironing and washing up.

We had the last of the risotto with some salad and we watched TV whilst we ate.

After, we had some ice cream and watched more TV.

Place 49 – Day 339: Auckland – Hail & Thunder!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis got to work at his ideal time and wanted to get started on something he had planned but the PC he wanted to work on was turned off, so he had to wait a few hours to do what he wanted.

He was able to get on with one of the few cases he had to do and was able to at least make a start on a few others.

In the mid morning, there was a very large downpour of hail! All of the street was white, as if snow had fallen, but only until the insane amount of rain came, along with the thunder!

Most of the afternoon was taken up with one case, in which Curtis didn’t really get much further.

Curtis did get a mini ‘project’ organised though, which was fun.

For the end of the afternoon, Curtis learned something new which he needs to get done, hopefully, tomorrow!

The drive home was back to being incredibly busy, but it seems there was possibly a crash somewhere, which may explain it.

Both of us;

The pair of us were hungry when we arrived home, so dinner was the priority. We had leftover risotto and watched some TV.

Once our 1 hour TV show finished, Kim went out to see Tabitha at the usual gathering place of ‘The Chocolate House’.

Once Kim got home, we watched NCIS:LA and then had another early night!

Black Friday is almost here and that means sales!

Place 49 – Day 338: Auckland – Delicous Risotto

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis left late to get to work but arrived on time, luckily.

Curtis was incredibly tired from the weekend but he quickly got over it and got right to work.

For the morning, Curtis had some work to finish from Friday afternoon as well as some admin to do and then a new case that came in.

Curtis’ work laptop started playing up as well, which didn’t help much!

In the afternoon, Curtis had a remote session and resolved an issue for someone and then had some more development work to loom at which took the rest of the afternoon.

Curtis had little traffic on the way home, which was a nice change in comparison to the last few work days!

Both of us;

We both got home at fairly similar times and the Kim realised she didn’t have everything she needed for dinner so she popped out to grab that.

Once Kim got back, she slaved over the stove to produce a wonderful chicken & mushroom risotto!

With our risotto, we had a really tasty side salad and Nicola even had some food with us, too!

We got some extra accommodation booked for 2 months time and then made the lunches and had a conversation with Nicola.

We finished the evening watched The Last Leg and had an early night (for us!).
