Place 72 – Day 269: Vancouver, BC – 1 Year in Vancouver!

One Year Here!

We have been living in Vancouver for 1 year as of today! It’s just 269 days as we have had trips elsewhere during our stay, but we moved here this time last year! It’s flown by!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had another slower start to the morning, but did a ticket which took an hour and a lot of project admin during his team meeting.

Once that was done, Curtis went with Kim to clear out the storage locker downstairs and move the majority of it into the car to take to the new apartment.

Curtis spent some time trying to figure something out, but didn’t make much progress, and then went have lunch.

After lunch, Curtis did a few more tickets and then that was the end of the day!

Curtis packed up his remaining clothes, getting ready for moving!

After Curtis packed up, he emptied the dishwasher and played some games.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent the morning catching up on emails. On the way into the office Kim dropped the car off at the new apartment so she can put some stuff into the storage locker after work.

Once Kim got into the office she spent some time organising her desk and getting things ready. She then spent a bit of time reaching out to other people about mailing things.

Kim had reached out to the building to see if they would be able to let her borrow some tools or help Kim out a wire hole through the back of a cabinet. Someone showed up today and was able to sort it out. The drill Kim tried it with last week was not up to the task. It was perfect and Kim spend some time setting up her game station for people to enjoy when they are back in the office.

One of the things that Kim has been putting off is rehoming some of the stationary she has removed from the kitchen cupboards. She started with envelopes and folders and moved those to where the other few envelopes are stored. Giving her more space for the rest of the stuff that she has to put away.

After work Kim went and picked up a wardrobe orgnaised for the new apartment. She then went to empty the car, and being smart Kim decided not to use the elevators and took the stairs to the parking floors. Except she didn’t. What Kim managed to do was get locked in a stairwell because the doors lock after you and cannot be opened from the inside! So she had to call the front desk / security to come and rescue her. After that she decided to bail and just go home. She will empty the car on the move in day.

Getting Packed Up

We got a few more things packed in the evening, but dinner was the priority!

Curtis had some Swedish meatballs and Kim had some chicken sausages, along with potatoes, carrots & peas.

Whilst we were making dinner, 2 police cars and 2 police vans arrived outside our apartment and they were arresting someone on a bike, which was a bit of entertainment!

We watched some TV and did a bit more packing up, and we don’t have too much more to do.

Place 72 – Day 101: Vancouver, BC – Lunchtime Dancing!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis arrived at work to a stream of messages from many people about all kinds of things, both incidents, requests and questions.

Curtis spent a while dealing with some of these, followed by some tickets and then got onto setting up a Mac for someone in the Regina office.

Once that was setup, he got the instructions for how to send it out and boxed it all up ready to go.

Curtis tried to continue with the virtual machine thing he was doing last week, but it didn’t download properly so he had to re-do it.

Adter lunch, Curtis was continuing to re-download the file and whilst he was doing that he got some tickets done, helped someone with their monitors, provided a laptop for someone and started setting up a laptop for someone else.

It reached the end of the day and Curtis began to pack away. As he was doing so, someone asked himto sort something urgently for him so Curtis ended up leaving 10 minutes late.

Overall, a busy hut very productive day for Curtis.

Kim’s Day

Kim got into the office and went across to say hello to a colleague that she hadn’t seen since before her First Aid course as she went to the UK office and France! It was so nice to see her again! They had a nice little catch up then Kim had her breakfast.

A little later in the morning the fruit arrived so Kim sorted it all out. She then went back to her desk and continued with her ad hoc tasks until it was time for her 11am meeting.

At 11 Kim went to the Benefits Orientation. Kim learned all about what her company offers and not has a far better understanding of how it all works.

Straight after this meeting Kim went up to the 25th floor as two colleagues had arranged to teach a fusion dance class so Kim thought it would be fun to go along to. The class was so great and relaxed. It consisted of paired dancing but in a far more relaxed way than other more traditional dance styles. The time just zoomed by and it was a great success!

As she was so knackered from concentrating on not falling over Kim decided to take lunch after the class. So she sag and ate and was then joined by a colleague so they had a nice little chat.

Kim refilled the drinks fridge a while after lunch and made a few rearrangements to allow foe the more popular drinks to have a little more space.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim spent some time preparing for the summer party that is coming up during the week!

Our Standard Monday

We had our standard Monday once we got home.

We emptied the recycling, checked the post, completed the laundry and did the vaccuuming.

We had baked potatoes for dinner and watched some Eagles, YouTube videos and Vikings to pass the time.

We ended up sleeping quite early considering how well we slept last night.

Place 72 – Day 98: Vancouver, BC – All The Free Food!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a busy day ahead of him! He started the day doing a few tickets from other days as well as a couple of new ones that came in.

Once those were done, he had to order some IT equipment and then continued on imaging an old laptop for reuse.

Curtis finished the laptop and then moved on to something a bit more challenging, once he was done with lunch.

Curtis was trying to get a virtual machine to run on a server which people could all remote in to and use whenever they needed. It took a while to figure out, but he managed to realise that the hard drive was only recognisable on mac and once he plugged it in, the file was in the incorrect format.

Curtis had to re import the file into a free virtual machine manager and re export it as a different file type. This took over an hour to do and whilst he was doing this, he got a colleague to setup a server to put it on, which he will do on Monday.

Curtis went and had some drinks with his colleagues and even had a little bit of whiskey!

Curtis walked home alone as Kim was still at work, but once he got home he went on the xbox and had a long chat with his friend Shane (who was his best man) who he hasn’t spoken to in while.

It was amazing for them to catch up!

Kim’s Day

Kim got in before 9 to ensure that the boardroom was ready for the scout to come in and do their checks. When they came in, Kim showed them upstairs and left him to it.

She realised that she forgot her breakfast, so nipped across the road to the supermarket to grab a chocolate croissant. It was so tasty and just what Kim wanted!

After Kim ate her breakfast, she sorted out some of the fruit for the sangria. She set up 2 jugs with some of the frozen fruit to allow for it to soak up some of the alcohol for the duration of the day.

After this Kim got prepared for her meeting this morning in regards to her project and checked on the scout to make sure he was all set.

In the meeting Kim learned that the project was at a different phase than she was initatly led to believe it was at. Kim thought her role was to encourage other teams to complete certain tasks whereas her role at the moment is to ensure that her department is up to date and can then be used as a model for other departments. She was able to realign her goals and and efforts to reflect what is actually needed now. It was a very successful and useful meeting.

Just after the meeting the catering for another meeting arrived. Kim sorted it all out and let then know that the food was waiting in the meeting room and went back to going through some project stuff. A few minutes later someone came back to Kim with a spare burrito as someone had ordered one and not come to the meeting! What a win!

Kim decided to take her lunch then and relax and enjoy a free crispy chicken burrito. It was a good lunch!

When she finished her lunch Kim continued working with her new information on the project. She then popped out to pick up some cider and wine for the Friday afternoon drinks and pick up the mail.

Kim then organised with the film crew and the building managers how the filming would work logistically.

It was then Kim’s favourite time of week where she got to make sangria and set up all of the drinks! Kim even made a virgin sangria too! She then finished an email, had a chat with a colleague and then joined everyone until 6pm for drinks. It was really easy going and fun!

Pizza & Hidden Figures

We ate a frozen pizza for dinner as it was late and we are lazy!

We watched a couple of YouTube videos and then watched the film Hidden Figures which was a pretty good film!

Place 49 – Day 246: Auckland – A Broken Skate Blade!

We woke up at 07:30 which was not an acceptable time to be awake so we decided to force ourselves to sleep for another 3 hours.

We woke up and had some breakfast. We had cereal, nothing fancy.

We then had to go to get some shopping that we forgot as well as look for a jumper for Kim.

We did that and then got back home and had a bit of time before Curtis’ hockey game.

We did a spring clean whilst we waited for the time to pass! Vacuuming everything, cleaning the bathroom items and everything in between. Everything looked great when we were done.

Tabitha came round and we left to go to Curtis’ hockey game.

This was Curtis’ last game for about a month as he is away next weekend and then there isn’t a game for 3 weeks after that.

Curtis got changed and then a teammate noticed something off with his skate blade. The end of the blade had snapped off! This was pretty dangerous to go on the ice with so Curtis went to skate hire to see if they had anything he could use.

After some looking around, they had some fairly decent skates which fit Curtis pretty well, though they were quite uncomfortable!

Curtis was unsure during warm up as the right skate was not sharp at all and was sliding around the place! It took a bit of getting used to but the game went pretty well for Curtis, considering.

The game ended 1-1 and it was a good game too! Curtis got an assist too.

We drove home and had our leftover Swedish meatballs which was delicious again and watched some TV then had an early (ish) nice.

Place 49 – Day 245: Auckland – Breakfast Switchup

We woke up at 10:30 and were both very hungry. We only had Weetbix in the house for breakfast but wanted something a bit nicer. Kim decided she would make crepes!

Kim started to make crepes, but they didn’t work out too great, so we scrapped that and Kim said there was a nice cafe in Birkenhead so we went there for breakfast.

We wanted a Coffix too but they were closed!

We got a chocolate swirl each and then went home. We watched some TV and YouTube videos and then went out to do the shop. We didn’t need much food for this week, so it didn’t take long. We got a coffee from Little Things too, which was a bonus!

We got home and Kim went right back out again to spend some time with Tabitha.

Kim’s Afternoon;

Kim picked Tabitha up and then they headed up to Albany to do some shopping. After about an hour and a half, the shops started to close, an hour before they thought they would! So Kim drove Tabitha home and then headed home via the shop to get some stuff for dinner.

Our Evening;

Kim got home and we just chilled out some more before we made dinner.

We had Swedish meatballs again because they’re easy and tasty!

Swedish_Meatballs

We ate this and then played some fortnite before heading to Netflix to see what was there.

We found something made by the creators of The Simpsons which looked hilarious called Disenchantment!

We watched this a bit and then headed to bed. A perfect Saturday!

Place 49 – Day 236: Auckland – Long Phone Calls & Ninja Way Home

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis got to work and a change had been made overnight which didn’t work correctly! Curtis therefore spent about an hour helping to rectify the issue.

After that, Curtis answered the phone and ended up being on that call for about 2 or so hours!

Curtis finished the call and still bad something to do, before finally having lunch.

The afternoon wasn’t much more chill, but at least it went fast!

Curtis left the office and headed home.

On the way home, the normal slip road he uses was crazy busy, so he decided to find an alternate route. Curtis found a route he didn’t realise existed and it took about the same amount of time to get home! Ninja!

Both of us;

We had pizza for dinner because we were too lazy to get anything else.

We watched the last two episodes of modus and it was my 20:30!

We just chilled out for the rest of the evening.

Place 49 – Day 235: Auckland – Yoga Guru

Curtis’ Day;

Traffic was not great this morning, but he was able to get to the office in time.

It was a very quite day today for Curtis. So much so, that he left an hour early!

Kim’s Evening;

Kim went from work straight to the gym and did yoga! She wasn’t a big fan of it, to be honest!

Both of us;

When Kim got home she made a wonderful dinner! We had roasted duck with hoisin sauce and pasta.

We watched two episodes of Modus and then went to sleep! We’ve nearly finished Modus now…
