Place 72 – Day 424: Vancouver, BC – Afternoon Nap

We woke up around 10:30 and had some more cinnamon buns and strawberries for breakfast.

We then got ourselves ready and, after a lot of being lazy, made our way out to the supermarket.

The supermarket was busy and there was a queue again!

We only did a fairly small shop, so we left pretty quickly.

When we got home, we emptied the bins and then Kim felt a little under the weather, so she had a short nap and felt way better afterwards!

We then had some leftover pizza and a ceasar salad for dinner and watched some TV for the evening.

Perfectly relaxed Sunday.

Place 72 – Day 403: Vancouver, BC – First Time Driving Here

We got up a little earlier today and had some toasties for breakfast.

We then did some laundry and got showered, then Kim chatted with her dad and went over her CV and got some of his feedback.

Once Kim was done with that, we left the apartment and jumped in the car.

Curtis has found out that Kim is not allowed to come and watch his hockey games and Kim had been driving since we got to Vancouver, so Curtis needs to drive to hockey himself when it starts on 7th October.

Kim drove to an industrial area and we swapped seats, and Curtis tried driving for the first time on the left side of the car and right side of the road.

Curtis didn’t mind it, though lane discipline was a bit tough. Curtis is going to drive a little more over the next week or so and then he can get used to it before he drives to hockey for his first game!

Curtis then drove onto the supermarket and where we park was absolutely full, so it took a while to find a space.

The supermarket was just as full as the parking around it and it was a little crazy in there, but we got it done and drove back home.

We got back home and had some leftover pizza which we had from yesterday.

We had that and watched a bit of TV, then played some Tony Hawk.

Kim made a slow cooked chicken chili and we ate that whilst watching some YouTube videos.

We watched some more TV and got ourselves off to bed.

Place 72 – Day 336: Vancouver, BC – Whyte Lake Trail

Whyte Lake Trail

We got up in the late morning, had a simple breakfast and got ready for the day.

Eventually, around 13:00, we left the apartment and drove up to West Vancouver where we went to Whyte Lake Trail.

This is a simple hiking trail, which was what we were looking for..Not too much effort but good to get outside and see some nice nature!

We really enjoyed the walk, which climaxed at a lake.

After arriving at the lake, we looked at it a bit and then walked back towards where we had parked, which was about a 20 minute walk back.

In total, it was about a 5km walk, though it was very warm out so we were a little sweaty!

On the way back, we dropped in at a cafe to get a snack and some coffee.

Kim had a Cajun chicken sandwich and Curtis had a breakfast croissant. We each had a coffee, too, but a cold one as the weather was too hot for something hot!

After this, we walked down the beach that was opposite the cafe and that was a bit busy, so we walked down the sea wall that was there.

We eventually turned around, after walking a bit on the rocks, and then went to the beach where Kim was able to stand in the water a little!

Once Kim was done in the water, we drove back home, with a stop at the supermarket for the weekly shop.

Pesto Chicken

We got back home and both needed a shower to clean off and cool down.

We then did a bit of online shopping for some better hiking shoes.

Kim then made some pesto chicken for dinner, but also prepped the chicken for other means coming up this week.

We ate our dinner and then watched the film The Old Guard.

Place 72 – Day 281: Vancouver, BC – Another Productive Day!

We got up and ready and then headed out to be supermarket.

We didn’t have to queue at all, which was a bit of a surprise, so we were in and out fairly quick!

We got back home and put all the washing away and then we had a few more bags we needed to empty which mostly had clothes in them, so we got those emptied and it cleared up quite a bit of space!

Kim went out later in the afternoon to get a new storage hanger we can use for clothes and then we were also able to sell something we no longer need.

We then walked to the liquor store to get some beer for dinner, which was a good move!

We then came back home and Kim made Japanese curry again, but this time it was really, really good!

We then watched the film The Guilty which is Danish, but was a really enjoyable and suspenseful film.

Kim had a bath and did a face mask after the film and then we watched some more TV before going to bed.

Place 72 – Day 273: Vancouver, BC – Last Remaining Things

We got up and had some breakfast, just some scrambled eggs and hash browns.

Curtis got to use his new Aeropress coffee maker, which was well worth it! Excellent coffee!

We then got ready for the day and headed down to the garbage disposal area and then up to our storage locker, to put a few things in there.

We then jumped in the car and drove to our old apartment to get a few things we forgot!

We picked up our cereal and some clothes we had hung up, as well as our bath mat and entrance mat.

We left there and went to Canadian Tire where Kim got some stuff for work and we also bought ourselves some cotton facemasks so we don’t have to keep using disposable ones.

We had to line up for that and then once we were done we lined up to enter the supermarket.

We got our shop done and drove back home.

Once we got home we did a few things around the apartment. We put all our clothes away and got some things moved around to the right place.

We had also listed our old bed frame for sale so were responding to people about that, too.

We made katsu curry for dinner. Most was fresh but the sauce was packaged as we bought it a while ago so had to use it.

Kim breaded the chicken and fried it and we had it with potato and onion cooked in the sauce with some rice.

It wasn’t amazing, a little bland, but next time we know what to do!

We finished that up and then watched another Middleditch & Schwartz which is a very funny improv standup comedy show.

We did that and then Kim made cookies!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a pretty busy and successful day!

It started with a call with someone who had some questions about email encryption, so Curtis and his colleague jumped into that and got those questions answered and helped with next steps.

Curtis then did a few tickets followed by a plumber showing up to fix a sink plug that wasn’t working.

Right after the plumber, the ‘window guy’ arrived to look at our dodgy window. It seems it actually either needs replacing or he needs to come back and try a few things to it.

Once the window guy left, Curtis had some other tickets to work on and then had some lunch.

Post lunch, Curtis had even more tickets to complete, as well as writing up a communication for the company.

Kim’s Day

Kim was in the office nice and early today to meet the people coming in for the renovations, shortly before they were due to arrive she got a call telling her they will be late. So Kim hopped on the midweek catchup call and had a great time talking with everyone.

After the call Kim played the undefeated champions of the cribbage tournament. At the end of the game they were still undefeated! It was also the last game of the round robin part of the tournament. Kim then worked out the pairing for the next round and updated the spreadsheet.

While Kim was updating the spreadsheet the renovations person turned up and ended up only being able to do one small part of the project as the filler had to dry before the wall can be painted and the TV mounted. So they will arrange for a day next week where two people can come in to finish the project.

For a lot of the morning Kim went through all of the marketing stock and made notes of what there is and in what quantities. It was great to get the area organised and have a better idea of what there is.

In the middle of sorting through the stock Kim had a meeting with a colleague in regards to mail and general plans for the offices.

As a friend of Kim’s works in town, they met up for lunch and sat 2 tables apart in the kitchen. It was so amazing to see her and have a great catchup in a nice and safe environment.

After lunch Kim wrote up her notes from the meeting earlier and made a good plan of what she has to do. She also made a proper log of the marketing stock to send over to the team.

Non-Apartment Hunt Evening!

We didn’t have any apartments to look at today and noone came to look at ours, so it was a fairly standard evening.

We went to the supermarket and there was no line which surprised us.

We did the shop quickly and then came back home to do our workout!

We finished our workout which felt like the first one in a while and then had a quick dinner.

We then relaxed and watched some TV, followed by mini sticks and Need For Speed!

Place 72 – Day 241: Vancouver, BC – Meal Preparation!

Curtis’ Day

We got our walk in this morning before work and then Curtis started his day.

Curtis was able to get some admin sorted and then he had some tickets to complete.

After these tickets, he started looking at some of the tickets that his team had automatically created with relation to the last time the laptops have been connected to the company network.

Curtis sorted through these for a lot of the day and removed any that weren’t required.

Curtis had a team meeting in which they had to discuss projects and ensure they were planned out correctly. This was his only meeting of the day!

As mentioned, he looked through the automatic tickets and helped a few people out in the afternoon and then ended the day with 30 minutes of reading.

Kim’s Day

This week is the second to last week of the company wide meetings in the morning and it was a shorter meeting too! Kim was due to have a hack team meeting after it, but because the hack day has been delayed, they cancelled the meeting and will revisit in in a few weeks.

After the meeting Kim set up her donut catch ups, she had been lazy and didnt set one up for her last person and everyone has been allocated new people and Kim has been paired up with the big boss of the company! So Kim organised the older one and reached out to the bog boss for their catch up, she and the PA organised it and set everything up!

For the rest of the morning Kim worked on a few things here and there, updating lists that she has and going through her mailboxe to tick off all the older items.

After lunch Kim resent out the weekly social catch ups to go into mid may and move the UKs to a better time. She also decided to invite everyone to all of the social catch ups, that way people can dip in and out when they want and people from across the time zones can chat!

Kim worked on a few quizzes in the afternoon and finished her day with some scheduling!

Shop Again, Workout & Chicken Cobb Salad

Once we finished work, Kim went to the shop to get a few things she forgot yesterday.

When she got back, we did our usual workout which felt really good and then Kim made a really tasty chicken Cobb salad.

Kim also made a vegetarian chilli after we finished eating, in preparation for tomorrow!

We played some Need for Speed and then watched a bit of TV, but it was already quite late by this point, so we didn’t stay up much longer.

Place 72 – Day 227: Vancouver, BC – No Queue?!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis woke up very awake this morning, which must mean he slept well!

We completed and our morning walk and then Curtis had a shower and some breakfast.

After breakfast, Curtis started work and had a meeting right away! He helped someone with some design work, doing some testing for them. It was also nice to check in with them and have a bit of a catch up.

Curtis then had a webinar about his helpdeesk software, which was a bit boring but did have some good information.

Curtis then got some tickets done and then had a wrap for lunch with Kim!

After lunch, Curtis did some tickets but for most of the rest of the day he looked into some project work for a project he has just started today.

Kim’s Day

For the rest of the week Kim has the early meeting again, so after that Kim went straight into scheduling to help her teammate.

Kim then started working on her next quiz and wrote up a few questions and did some research for it. This quiz is based around the TV show friends as that is another interest a lot of people in the company have.
At 1 it was go time on the Pokemon quiz and it went so well! People joined in, heckled and played along.

It was so much fun and at the end of the quiz Kim asked for themes and feedback so now she has other ideas of quizzes that people would want to play along with!

After lunch Kim spent her afternoon setting up the cribbage tournament. She managed to schedule a the first games for most teams and even a second game for some!

No Queue?!

We finished up with work and got back to working out!

We finished our workout, got showered and Kim did some stretches and then we did some cleaning!

We did the usual emptying the recycling, cleaning the counters and vacuuming.

After that, we went out to the supermarket to get a bunch more stuff that we need for the week.

We were expecting a queue as it’s been for the last week or so, but it turns out that there was no queue at all, which made it far easier!

We did the shop fairly quick and headed home for some dinner.

Kim made a terrific creamy chicken and mushroom pasta which was really great!

We ate that and watched some TV, by the time we ate it was already 20:00!

Place 72 – Day 215: Vancouver, BC – Spanish Banks

Curtis’ Day

Curtis felt pretty tired this morning, but nothing some coffee couldn’t fix!

He had his regular team meeting and did a bunch of tickets in the morning.

He had a meeting at 12:00, in a similar vein to his other project meetings, finding out requirements and current processes.

After that, he had some lunch and then most of the afternoon, around doing tickets and creating a process for Major Incidents, he and his team did some team building.

They played some Jackbox Games and then some Rocket League, both of which were certainly fun!

Curtis did a little more work after that and then played a little bit of xbox.

Kim’s Day

Kim’s day was full of meetings! She started her day with a company wide meeting where she learned a lot about the product of the company.

After this Kim had a small amount of time where she caught up on messages and emails before joining a webinar about introducing fun into the workplace. It was really interesting and covered things like personalities and how differently people will prefer to relax. It has helped Kim with planning social events for the coming weeks!

Kim then went straight into another meeting, this time it was her 1-1 with her manager. It was great to catch up and check in with each other.

After this Kim caught up with all the other people in her team to go over the things she has planned for remote social activities. Then all the same people joined more people in a more social catch up call to keep that face to face interaction going.

Towards the end of the call Kim got a little emotional as I think it all got a bit much, the isolation and future uncertainty really crept up and got to Kim. She ended up on an hour long call with her teammate, just the two of them and they had a great deconstruction of what Kim was feeling and a good catch up. It was good to talk it out, know that there is support and they can lean on each other at the moment.

After that call Kim felt 10 times lighter and felt like she also had more direction and clarity on things to do. So she worked on a communication to send out to let people know of the events that will be coming up. She also reached out to other people in the company to ask for support and to champion certain activities. Kim also made note of other activities she thinks will be good fun!

Spanish Banks

We got a suggested from Kim’s colleagues to get ourselves to Spanish Banks and walk there…It was great!

We hopped in the car and made the 15 minute drive out to it. Finding parking was very easy…and then we just walked!

It’s a pretty big beach, with beautiful views of mountains and a great skyline.

It was a little chilly, but it was beautiful and great to get outside again.

After our long walk, we drove back home and on the way, stopped at the supermarket and petrol station.

When at the petrol station, Kim realised she didn’t have her credit card!

We went to the supermarket next and it was there, which was lucky.

We got back home and Kim made sweet potato wedges for us to enjoy whilst watching some TV for the remaining couple of hours of the day.

Place 72 – Day 144: Vancouver, BC – Snow Prepared!

Snow Prepared

We got up and out fairly quickly this morning, to try and get ourselves prepared with snow clothes!

We plan to go skiing/snowboarding, so we needed to make sure we had the right clothing.

We started about a 20 minute walk from our house at a store called Sport Junkies.

This place is mostly a used sporting goods store, but it has been recommended to us by a few people so we checked it out.

Curtis successfully found some trousers for the snow, and pretty fast, but Kim was unable to find anything.

We left here and went to Winners to see if Kim could find anything for herself, which she did! She got some white Superdry snow trousers.

After this success, it certainly seemed that we deserved a reward, so we sat in Starbucks with a coffee for a bit.

After this, we did a larger shop at the supermarket as we needed a few general items that we don’t purchase too often.

We got these and then headed back home.

Homemade Thai Green Curry

Once we got back, it was time to make dinner!

Kim made a Thai green curry, which was terrific!

We ate this, watched some TV, did some laundry and cleaned the bathroom…because fun Sunday things!
