Place 72 – Day 25: Vancouver,BC – First Day At Work & 2 Productive Days

Curtis’ First Day At Work

Curtis was up at 07:30 and got ready to head to work for his first day.

Curtis left the house and walked for 10 minutes or so to the train station.

The train station was busy and so were the trains. Curtis just missed a train bit the come quickly and he had plenty of time.

Curtis got to the station after being on a fairly crowded train and walked towards his office building.

Curtis got to the building and went up to his floor. He waited for a little and then his manager came and greeted him, followed by a tour.

Once the tour was complete, Curtis was walked through pretty much everything he needs to know!

Once the walkthrough was completed, he was able to go to lunch with his manager.

They went to a small pub just down the road on the waterfront. Curtis got a cranberry chicken & brie sandwich and he chatted about a lot of different things with his manager.

Curtis is the lone IT Support Analyst for the Vancouver office, so he has to support around 80 people and multiple conference rooms. This is exactly the role Curtis wanted so he is very happy to hear this!

The office is beautiful and the view is phenomenal…Curtis will try and grab a picture when he can.

Before Curtis knew it, the day was over and it was time to head home, so down to the train station he went.

This time, the train was ridiculously busy and he was unable to really move…When we move into our new place, Curtis thinks he will walk the 30 minutes to work!

Curtis was met at the train station by Kim, lovingly and then we walked home together.

Kim’s Day

Kim relaxed for some of the morning and then headed to the bank to sort out her Credit Card which was causing issues before…It was a success!

Kim then went to a supermarket to grab some more cereal, specifically froot loops for Curtis, and second hand cardboard boxes for some kitchen stuff she will collect in a few days.

Kim then headed home and took Trudy out for a walk to the park.

When Kim got back, it was time for laundry and admin. This kept kim busy until just before Curtis was due to arrive home.

It was a productive day!

Evening

Our evening consisted of Curtis telling Kim about his first day of work, as well as Kim saying all she had achieved for the day.

We were both successful today!

We had chicken, rice & vegetables again for dinner and then we sat and watched TV, both of us trying not to fall asleep.

Place 72 – Day 23: Vancouver,BC – Free Doughnut & Long Central Park Walk

Central Park Walk

We walked all the way down to Central Park again today as it was nice weather so we had to use it somehow.

We stopped at Tim Hortons to get a doughnut for Kim and when Curtis scanned his loyalty card, it came up and said we had a free reward, so the doughnut was a free one!

We walked out of Tim’s and went down the road to Starbucks to get a nice cold iced coffee before heading into the park.

We walked a different way around, but with no real plan. We just walked and talked for a couple of hours, only really stopping to take a few photos of the beautiful environment.

We also saw a really big tree that had fallen, and the routes were insanely large!

Supermarket & Pizza

We left the park and walked back home via the supermarket. We picked up a pizza for dinner, some ice cream and something to drink.

We ate our pizza (which was OK) and watched some TV. We started a couple of new TV shows; Lucifer & a Norwegian show called Occupied (Okkupert).

It’s just 2 days until Curtis starts work, but Kim does have some things to do during the week to keep her busy, and get us ready for our move in on (hopefully) Saturday!

Place 72 – Day 15: Vancouver,BC – Much Needed Relax

No Breakfast Requires Shopping

We woke up a bit later than we have been and then realised that we had nothing for breakfast, so we needed to go shopping.

We got ready and then walked for 20 minutes to get to the supermarket.

We got breakfast cereal and a few snacks but got distracted my Starbucks on our way out, so grabbed a coffee too.

We got back home and had some breakfast whilst Curtis watched the Great Britain ice hockey game.

Laundry

We then needed to do laundry and where we are staying doesn’t have laundry, so we went to the laundromat opposite us and got it washed there.

Unfortunately, we had no cash so we had to get some money out, meaning walking basically all the way back to where we went to the supermarket earlier.

We got back to the laundromat and put the wash on and then went back home and relaxed for the 30 minutes it was washing for.

We went back and got our laundry, put it in the dryer and waited the 45 minutes for that to finish…a highly exhilarating day!

Once that finished we brought it home and then made some dinner.

We had a similar thing to yesterday, but we had General Tsao sauce instead, which was a nice change.

Different TV

We have watched all of the latest episodes of our usual shows so had to watch some different shows.

We watched an episode of Gordon Ramsay and some different YouTube videos and then we watched the Fyre Festival documentary, which was interesting.

We followed that up by watching episode one of Chernobyl which was interesting for us as we have been there!

We then hit the hay, with no plans tomorrow.

Place 73 – Day 1: Seattle,WA 🇺🇸 – Crossing The Border & Beautiful Room

Early Wake Up

We were up early to get ready, pack up and eat breakfast.

We bought cinnamon buns from the supermarket yesterday to have for breakfast along with the remainder of our orange juice.

Once we got packed up and showered, we checked out of our apartment and walked to the bus station.

Awesome Building

The bus/train station is Pacific Central Station. This is an amazing old building, with beautiful ceilings and the architecture is incredible, both inside and out.

Subway & Coffee

We had time to kill, so we were resourceful and went to Subway to get a sandwich for our bus ride and Curtis went to Starbucks for a coffee.

We got back to the bus station and stopped there for a while whilst we waited for the bus.

The bus arrived and on we got, ready for our 5.5 hour journey!

The Border

About 2 hours in to our trip, we stopped at the US border and went through customs.

We got our bags searched, randomly, which is always nerve wracking, even though you know you have nothing!

We jumped back onto the bus and continued on through some really awesone towns.

Arrival in Seattle

We arrived in Seattle and had to figure out our route to our apartment.

We walked a, less desirable, way and it felt a little intimidating, but we were all good!

We eventually got there and it was actually in a great neighbourhood and was very lovely.

We got ourselves in and we have a beautiful room as well as a shared bathroom, but that is lovely too! It’s in a 3 storey apartment and we are currently just sharing with the people that live here, so this bathroom is just ours for now.

Walking Around

We wanted a walk so walked for 20 minutes or so to get to the supermarket, where we saw McDonald’s so we knew what we were eating!

We got what we needed from the supermarket and then grabbed our food.

We strolled back to the apartment and were really ready to chill out.

We have some fun stuff planned for the next week here in Seattle!

Place 70 – Day 8: Victoria,BC – Fisherman’s Wharf

The day started relaxed but productive.

We got some admin done, such as uploading photos and videos to Facebook. Not important, but needed to be done. We also spoke with Kim’s parents.

We went out to get some fresh air and went for a walk down to Fisherman’s Wharf which is only down the road.

This place is busy during the summer and has a few eateries, ice cream places and experiences.

Some of the floating houses

In the winter, these places are closed, but it is still great to look around. There are houses in the water, known as ‘floating houses’, which are actually privately owned and used, but you can still look around them.

We left here and went to the supermarket to get a couple of things. We got garlic bread, which took ages to find, as well as more cereal and some coffee. The coffee was fun as we selected the bean we wanted and got to grind it ourselves, which was stressful but fun.

We left the supermarket and came back, just in time for Kim to start on the pasta bolognese, which tasted fantastic! The garlic bread we bought was not so good, though.

We sat and watched TV with Linda for the rest of the evening, as well as doing laundry.
