Place 72 – Day 144: Vancouver, BC – The Red Arrows?!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting right when he got to work. This was an update from his team’s management about a few different things that are or will be happening and it was quite positive!

This meeting went on for 45 minutes and once it was done, Curtis could actually continue his day.

He had a lot of discussions with people about different things, but his main goal was to complete the onboard of a new user, which he finally completed (laptop and all) by 15:00.

As well as doing tickets all day, Curtis spent the last 45 minutes of the day trying to get some information together for someone.

On Curtis’ walk home, he heard a few jets every so often and then googled it and it was the RAF’s Red Arrows! Curtis was then able to see them all fly past him whilst he walked across a bridge, which was pretty cool!

Curtis played some games whilst he waited for Kim to come back from work.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim cleaned every meeting room. It started out as a whiteboard clean but Kim gutted every meeting room and removed loads of items so they are all now sparkly and clean.

Kim moved a cable inside the ceiling panels for it to make more sense in the room, she also moves a light box out and put the secondary table under the wire so it can be used for laptops. That room is now so much better!

Kim also emptied and refilled all of the stationary pots in the rooms. She also organised all the trailing cables by covering them over and zip tying the extra bits to tidy it up.

Early afternoon Kim had a meeting designed for Health and Safety planning but they ended up using it for the xmas parties and a couple of other things. Kim and her colleague have put something in for next week to make up for not using that time for H&S.

After the meeting Kim finished the last 2 rooms before ordering the pizzas for 2 offices for tomorrow. Kim was able to do one online nice and easily. When she booked the pizzas for the Vancouver office the online system didn’t work so Kim had to call and that took about 30 minutes and she had to wait for a call back to confirm the order, so in total it took 50 minutes to order some pizza so Kim left at about 6!

Final Episode of Suits!

We watched a few YouTube videos and had some food and then decided to watch the final (ever!) episode of Suits.

Once that was done, we watched a couple more videos and then headed to bed, ready for our Friday.

Place 72 – day 139: Vancouver, BC – Tiny Patisserie

Morning Workout

We were up around 09:00 and Kim decided she wanted to go and do some exercise, so headed down to the studio for 10:00.

Whilst she was there, Curtis had some breakfast, a coffee and played some games.

A Tiny Patisserie

When Kim got back, we were still hungry for some food, so we walked for about 20 minutes to get to a patisserie which had great ratings.

The patisserie was called L’atelier Patisserie and it was beautiful! Just 4 tables in total (two outside and two inside) and it was weirdly in an industrial estate.

It was clearly a busy place as it had run out of several items by the time we got there, but there was still enough for us to have.

We were very excited to have a croissant, and they didn’t disappoint!

Kim had a double chocolate croissant a Curtis had a standard, plain, one.

The croissants were incredible! flaky, yet buttery!

The coffees weren’t great, but tasty enough!

We left here and walked home, via a shop to get a couple of things.

Hockey

When we got home, we watched a couple of things together and then Curtis watched hockey whilst Kim watched Queer Eye.

Galaxy Buds

Curtis bought Kim Galaxy Buds for her birthday but gave them to her today as they as useful to have for training and exercise!

Suits & Peaky Blinders

We tried some of the new whisky we have and are very much in favour!

We watched Suits and Peaky Blinders whilst we drank this.

Place 72 – Day 109: Vancouver, BC – Project Full

Curtis’ Day

Curtis wasn’t able to have meetings today as there is a new company policy for ‘Thoughtful Thursdays’.

This means that Curtis had more time to get some other admin and project tasks done!

Curtis got some admin done in the early morning and then setup 2 laptops back to back. This is to upgrade people as part of a project.

Curtis was able to continue with some project work in the afternoon, but this time it was mostly research. He did a few tickets along the way but it was good to get some other things done, though his calendar for tomorrow is full!

Kim’s Day

When Kim got in she spent the morning on random little tasks. Then mid morning she went on to make a fruit salad to use up the other half of the melon and restock parts of the fridge.

Just before midday the weekly pizza arrived for the meeting. Today Kim decided to try using proper plates rather than the usual paper plates, it saves in cost and reduces the amount of single use items used around the office.

Just after this Kim was invited out to head to Sephora with 2 girls who were going and as she fancied a little walk in the sun Kim tagged along. When they got back the meeting had finished so Kim and one of the other girls sat down for some pizza for lunch and had a good chat.

Kim spent the first half of her afternoon changing parts of the floor plan maps to make them work and fit better. They looked so much better after the changes.

Kim then spent some time organising and placing orders. She had to call up Nespresso to get her order to go through and she had to call staples because she charged the order to the wrong card. Unfortunately she was unable to get through so that will now be a job for tomorrow.

Terrific Spaghetti Bolognese

We didn’t really do anything in the evening.

We got back and relaxed and then when we eventually started to get hungry, Curtis made a spaghetti bolognese.

We had some sauce leftover from another meal and Curtis used that as well as a blend of other items to create possibly one of the best spaghetti bolognese’s we’ve had!

It was meaty yet saucy and all around great.

We finished our evening as our usual with some TV and duolingo and then went to bed. Friday tomorrow, but we’re sure it’ll be busy!

Place 70 – Day 28: Victoria, BC – Brunch & Incredible Foot Massage!

Brunch

We were up at 09:00 to get ready for brunch/breakfast. By the time we both got ready it was around 10:30 and our brunch/breakfast time was at 11:00, so we all started the walk down.

Our brunch was in a hotel in the restaurant called Vista 18.

We got some coffee as well as a hot chocolate for Kim. This place was called Vista 18 due to being on the 18th floor, therefore it had some great views!

Curtis had eggs benedict with bacon & homemade breakfast potatoes, which were basically just potato chips.

Kim had a breakfast with bacon,eggs, pancakes and the same homemade potatoes.

Linda had the french toast which looked great! All of the portions were huge and it was an incredibly reasonable price.

We were very full after breakfast and so we went for a walk downtown to burn it off.

We walked around a few shops to pass time and Kim also managed to buy some exercise gear she needed.

Foot Massage

Kim and Linda went for a foot massage at 13:00. The original booked time was 13:30, but they couldn’t wait so changed it to 13:00.

Whilst they did this, Curtis went back to the apartment and relaxed.

Time To Go

Once we were all back in the same room, we didn’t have long before we had to say goodbye to Linda and walk down to catch the bus.

We said our goodbyes and wandered to the bus station.Once at the station, we waited for a little bit and then boarded. The bus was very busy and very hot!

Once we arrived at the ferry port, everyone was way too hot so temporarily disembarked the bus to get some fresh air.

There was a small delay on the boat bring offloaded as the police were waiting for a car to speak to the driver, so we had to wait for that to be dealt with before we could board.

Ferry Ride

We got on the boat and sat charging our phones. We were able fully charge our phones, which was a result!

It was incredibly loud and busy on the boat, but it went quite fast.We loaded back onto the bus and headed towards home.We got back home and it was nice to be back, but we already miss spending time with Linda!

We stopped in at the supermarket for a bit to do a small weekly shop and to get some food for dinner.

We ate our dinner and caught up on some TV and YouTube videos before we went to bed, ready for work tomorrow.

Place 72 – Day 75: Vancouver, BC – Too Much Food, Too Early

Curtis’ Day

Curtis arrived at work and had a meeting which is regarding security and compliance. It was a good meeting and helped clear up some things he was wondering as well as notify everyone about certain things they needed to be aware of.

Curtis made a big order from Apple which he had to get sorted out and speak with the accounts team about.

At 12:15, Curtis had someone coming in for an interview with some people in another office, so he had to meet them, get them into the boardroom and setup their video meeting.

Curtis had a laptop to configure but also had a meeting starting at 14:00, so he didn’t do that right away, but jumped into his meeting.

His meeting was again, very good and informative. It was over an hour long but it was with the full team about the plan for the year as well as completing the document that the whole company will see regarding the teams plans and goals.

After the meeting, Curtis continued with setting up the laptop and then even managed to start another.

He had a few tickets to do and tidy up some things admin wise and then he walked to meetin Kim from work.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by going through her emails and sorting all of those out. Then she got a request for catering request for later in the day so she put that through.

Kim then spent some time organising the travel for a visitor who is coming over in a few weeks. They confirmed their preference on flights so Kim booked that and was looking in to arranging his accommodation. It was Kim’s first time booking travel on this system so lets hope they make it!

It was then time for the social team meeting and discussed some of the things they will be putting on over the next few weeks.

When she came out of the meeting, she was met with a delivery man who was 30 minutes early, which was strange. It was then horrible for Kim to sit next to lovely smelling food for about 40 minutes!

One of the action points Kim assigned to herself was to create a Pride Bake Off for the Vancouver Pride Festival that will be happening in a few weeks. Kim has challenged her colleagues to bake or make anything and they will get extra points if it is a rainbow! Kim is very excited to be organising this and even made posters.

The quotes for the breakfast coming up came in so Kim evaluated them and proceeded to order which is great.

Just as Kim was about to leave she got an email request about catering tomorrow so she called up and got that all sorted.

Nothing-ness

After 2 busy evenings, we got home and did nothing.

We had dinner right away, which was enchilladas with salad like yesterday and then we got caught in a YouTube void and watched a load of videos.

We watched the first episode of Season 9 of Suits and then a Vikings.

Place 49 – Day 282: Auckland – Catching Up on TV

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis had absolutely no traffic on the way to work so got there 20 minutes early.

The morning was ridiculously busy! Curtis started the day with 5 cases and by 11:00 he had 12! Only 2 cases got done in the morning and then he had his lunch, which was much anticipated.

Once Curtis finished lunch, he planned to have a remote session but the remote software stopped working so it took a while to get that done!

Curtis left to go home and 16:20 and once he got home he wanted for Kim to get back.

Both of us;

Kim went to buy a fan after work and then came home.

We put on a wash and then made dinner together.

We made sausages, potatoes, green beans and gravy!

For the evening, we caught up on Suits and The Great British Bake Off before sleeping.

Place 49 – Day 271: Auckland – Back to Reality

Curtis Day;

Curtis left 5 minutes late for work and it felt like it too! It felt like he was sat in traffic for a while, even though he really wasn’t.

Curtis had to get back into the swing of things, and it certainly felt a little odd to be back at work.

Curtis had some things to do from last week as well as some cases his manager wanted him to get sorted, too.

There were a few phone calls in the morning which ended up being long ones but Curtis wasn’t too busy meaning he could sink his teeth into these in the morning.

Curtis had left over roast dinner for lunch (delicious!) And after lunch he had to do a thing or two, but then from around 15:00 he had 0 cases remaining! He used this time to get some admin work done as well as help out his colleagues.

Considering he wasn’t doing much, Curtis’ afternoon went fairly fast and he left the office out into the rain.

The drive home was eventless and not very busy, so it was nice and fast.

Curtis got home and had the remaining (gross) parts of the washing up left, so he did those.

Both Of Us;

Kim got home and was going to go to the gym, but she had to sort out her CV for some job searching as she is coming to the end of her 5 month contract.

We had a nice easy dinner of pizza and chips and then Kim spent most of the evening doing her CV admin whilst Curtis played games.

Once Kim finished, we watched an episode of Suits and then off to sleep we went!

Place 49 – Day 230: Auckland – Friday Night Festivities

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis worked from home for the morning and then didn’t really do anything for the rest of the day. He put in a wash and that was as exciting as it gets!

Kim’s Evening;

Kim drove home from work and then hopped right into Curtis’ car and Curtis drove her to the city. There was a work function happening which Kim was going to.

Kim did a ninja jump out of the car so Curtis didn’t have to park and then she went into the venue.

Kim only had one drink before the event was over! She got a lift home from a colleague.

Both of us;

When Kim got back, we went to the shop to buy some steak!

We had steak with a mushroom and onion sauce with potato and peas. Delicious.

We then watched an episode of Suits and went to sleep. Kim is up early (for a Saturday) tomorrow to do fun stuff!
