Place 72 – Day 992: Vancouver, BC – More Office Setup & Meteor Shower!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis walked down to the office in the morning and got right into more office setup.

He and his colleague got all desks setup with montor arms (other than the ones that couldn’t be done as there were none left). Also, about 95% of desks now have monitors, other than the few that don’t due to running out of them.

Curtis spent most of the day doing this, as well as figuring out a few things he needed to figure out with his colleague about how desks will be setup. They got some permanent desks setup for people coming to the office full time, and then he sorted out some cables again and figured out which to keep and which to throw away.

Curtis walked back home in time to walk to get the car with Kim.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a really nice day today. It started with a 1-1 with a new employee and then a really interesting and useful chat with her manager and someone from the recruitment firm they work with. They caught each other up on work and bounced ideas off each other, it was great!

She then joined the weekly department check in and then finished a laptop at the same time. Then it was time for the regular weekly recruitment meeting. Kim also stole some time towards the end to discuss another role once everyone else has left.

In the afternoon Kim had a 1-1 with a manager to discuss a few of their new starters and how they are doing. Then she tried sorting out some charges from Apple, but had no luck!

She finished her day with a call with a teammate to see how they are doing.

Once she got back Kim managed to get a few quick wins done by sending emails and sending out an updated party invite. She then dropped some letters off to her colleague and stayed to play with the kittens.

Evening

We walked down to the garage to get the car, getting a coffee on the way, and once we picked that up we headed to the store to get something for dinner.

We got home and Kim did a little bit of work before going out to see a friend for a little bit.

We went to the gym at 21:00 for an hour which felt really good, and then when we got back up to the apartment, we had chicken ceasar salad for dinner and then we hung out and watched a bit of TV.

Kim went out at 23:00 to see her friend and drove out to a beach to look at the meteor shower that was happening today! She even managed to see a couple!

Kim headed home around 1:15am and then we went right to bed, after a little McDonald’s!

Place 72 – Day 931: Vancouver, BC – Wreck Beach

Breakfast & Wreck Beach

We had a good sleep and then woke up and had some breakfast. Kim went out to get croissants and we ate those and slowly got ourselves ready.

We went out to Wreck Beach, which is right by the university campus. This beach, it turns out, is actually clothing optional, though most people that go don’t go for that.

We drove out there and found ourselves some parking and then walked down the many steps through the trees to get to the beach.

The beach was nice and peaceful, with most people just lounging around. There are a lot of logs around, so we sat on one of those after having a walk around and just took in the air and the scenery. The weather wasn’t amazing, but not cold, so it gres to just sit and relax at the beach.

We walked a little more and then headed back up the many steps to get to the car. As we walked back to the car, another car drove very slowly beside us, trying to wait for us to leave our parking spot so they could take it. This was much to the dismay of other drivers who got very annoyed, so we intentionally just walked away and let the guy drive off so he didn’t hold up traffic.

A Surprise!

On the way home, Kim surprised Curtis by driving to the British shop, where we were able to buy a lot of British snacks, similar to what she did for his birthday!

We bought a lot of stuff there and then drove home.

Homemade Pizza

After relaxing at home a little, we went to the supermarket to buy everything we needed for a homemade pizza. We bought the dough this time, though, but it was fresh dough.

We made the pizza and it came out great, though quite soggy in the middle, so that’s something to work on, but it was very tasty!

After eating, we watched a film and had some of our snacks. After that, we watched some more TV but Kim also ordered herself a blanket she wanted to get.

Place 72 – Day 885: Vancouver, BC – Even More Packages!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a fairly quiet start to the day, but then jumped into his first Norwegian lesson in 3 weeks or so! He really enjoyed getting to speak Norwegian again and he felt that he did pretty well!

After this, Curtis had more computer checkups to do, we well as tickets and also a meeting with some colleagues to discuss some important documents.

Curtis got another delivery today, this time it was some more things for his coffee setup! He was also meant to get another package, but he missed the delivery. Due to that, he walked to go and collect it as it said it was ready, but it was not there!

Curtis came back home and was pretty much done for the day, other than a little bit of admin for tomorrow.

Curtis took out some recycling and did some vaccuming and laundry whilst Kim was out at the supermarket.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent the morning be ready in case she was needed in a meeting that was happening. She didn’t end up being needed, so Kim worked on some documents and prepared for an interview. She joined the interview, had a quick review and then joined the weekly company wide meeting and then she joined a mini webinar that her colleague held. She went straight from that webinar to a training session on a software that the company are considering to use.

Kim took a little break before giving an update in another teams weekly meeting and then joining a recruitment meeting to discuss the none development roles the company are hiring for.

She then joined an interview and the review after before joining a call on her phone and heading to Staples to pick something up. Kim was in the meeting the whole way there and back before joining the call properly when she got home.

Evening

Once Kim got back, we had some chicken wraps for dinner and chilled out for the evening. We both have busy days tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 542: Vancouver, BC – Playing In The Snow

We woke up this morning to quite a bit of snow, and it was still snowing!

Kim went to Tim Horton’s to get some breakfast, which was very similar to the one was had in Iceland when we got engaged! Nothing particularly crazy, just a breakfast muffin with a hash brown, doughnut and coffee, but it reminded us of being there!

After breakfast, Kim got ready and met a colleague for some distanced playing in the snow. She took the boogie board we have and slid down a hill a few times. They also had a bit of a walk but it got a bit too busy, so Kim went home.

After Kim got back home, we watched a bit of TV and then it was time for more games with work people! Kim played a lot of games for a few hours and it was a lot of fun!

Whilst she did that, Curtis watched hockey.

After we were done, it was time to get some food for the week. We couldn’t be bothered to drive to the supermarket, especially with the snow, so we walked down to a downtown supermarket near us to get enough stuff for the week.

We got all our stuff and couldn’t find anything we wanted for dinner there, so we ordered Tacofino and picked it up on the way home.

We got back home and ate that, then we took down the recycling as there was quite a bit there!

We got back to the apartment and just relaxed for the remainder of the evening. It’s a long weekend this week so that’s awesome!

Place 72 – Day 227: Vancouver, BC – No Queue?!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis woke up very awake this morning, which must mean he slept well!

We completed and our morning walk and then Curtis had a shower and some breakfast.

After breakfast, Curtis started work and had a meeting right away! He helped someone with some design work, doing some testing for them. It was also nice to check in with them and have a bit of a catch up.

Curtis then had a webinar about his helpdeesk software, which was a bit boring but did have some good information.

Curtis then got some tickets done and then had a wrap for lunch with Kim!

After lunch, Curtis did some tickets but for most of the rest of the day he looked into some project work for a project he has just started today.

Kim’s Day

For the rest of the week Kim has the early meeting again, so after that Kim went straight into scheduling to help her teammate.

Kim then started working on her next quiz and wrote up a few questions and did some research for it. This quiz is based around the TV show friends as that is another interest a lot of people in the company have.
At 1 it was go time on the Pokemon quiz and it went so well! People joined in, heckled and played along.

It was so much fun and at the end of the quiz Kim asked for themes and feedback so now she has other ideas of quizzes that people would want to play along with!

After lunch Kim spent her afternoon setting up the cribbage tournament. She managed to schedule a the first games for most teams and even a second game for some!

No Queue?!

We finished up with work and got back to working out!

We finished our workout, got showered and Kim did some stretches and then we did some cleaning!

We did the usual emptying the recycling, cleaning the counters and vacuuming.

After that, we went out to the supermarket to get a bunch more stuff that we need for the week.

We were expecting a queue as it’s been for the last week or so, but it turns out that there was no queue at all, which made it far easier!

We did the shop fairly quick and headed home for some dinner.

Kim made a terrific creamy chicken and mushroom pasta which was really great!

We ate that and watched some TV, by the time we ate it was already 20:00!

Place 72 – Day 144: Vancouver, BC – Snow Prepared!

Snow Prepared

We got up and out fairly quickly this morning, to try and get ourselves prepared with snow clothes!

We plan to go skiing/snowboarding, so we needed to make sure we had the right clothing.

We started about a 20 minute walk from our house at a store called Sport Junkies.

This place is mostly a used sporting goods store, but it has been recommended to us by a few people so we checked it out.

Curtis successfully found some trousers for the snow, and pretty fast, but Kim was unable to find anything.

We left here and went to Winners to see if Kim could find anything for herself, which she did! She got some white Superdry snow trousers.

After this success, it certainly seemed that we deserved a reward, so we sat in Starbucks with a coffee for a bit.

After this, we did a larger shop at the supermarket as we needed a few general items that we don’t purchase too often.

We got these and then headed back home.

Homemade Thai Green Curry

Once we got back, it was time to make dinner!

Kim made a Thai green curry, which was terrific!

We ate this, watched some TV, did some laundry and cleaned the bathroom…because fun Sunday things!

Place 72 – Day 43: Vancouver, BC – Kitsilano

Walk To Kits

We woke up and had a pains au chocolat each and some strawberries.

We ate this and then spoke with Kim’s family briefly as they were at Kim’s uncle’s wedding.

We then sat down to speak with Curtis’ family, but missed them so instead we left the house and walked to Kitsilano!

Kitsilano is a very trendy, hippie and beautiful neighbourhood in Vancouver. It took us roughly 45 minutes to walk from our home across to ‘Kits’.

The weather was beautiful, with the sun beating down on us.

The majority of the walk was along the seawall, so we got to see a lot of boats and we even walked through Granville island.

Coffee In Kits

We wanted to grab a coffee so we found a coffee shop called Bean Around The World. We believe this is a chain but it smelled delicious when we walked in and it was pretty well priced as well.

Curtis got a cappucino and Kim got a caramel macchiato. Both of our drinks were delicious!

Looking For Food

We thought we would look around for something to eat, so we went to the main area in Kitsilano to get some lunch.

Unfortunately, we were unable to find anything, so we settled for a wrap and KitKat from Whole Foods instead!

Kitsilano Beach

We walked to the beach which has mountain views and lots of volleyball courts! We sat and ate our lunch and then began the walk home by the side of the beach.

We walked all the way home from there which took about another 45 minutes and we were exhausted!

Shopping

We got back home and relaxed for a bit as our feet hurt.

We then went out to do our shop for the week and didn’t really spend that much!

We came back and Kim made a really good dinner which was marinated pork with noodles and vegetables.

We finished up with dinner and watched the first episode of the new season of Black Mirror, followed by some Lucifer, as well as some ice cream and then whiskey!
