Place 72 – Day 503: Vancouver, BC – Chicken & Dumplings

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did some admin in the morning, mostly with a slew of tickets that arrived to do some checkups on people’s laptops to ensure they are working as they should.

He had a Norwegian lesson which went really well at 10:30 and then he had a call with someone to take a look at a few issues they were having with their laptop.

After that, he completed a couple of the checkups and then had some lunch.

After lunch, there were a few tickets to do as well as some admin and then he finished the day with some training.

Kim’s Day

Kim collected and sent some info to her colleague for the weekly company check in and then she joined the meeting. She then had a slow morning ticking off a few items and getting smaller admin tasks done. One of the achievements was that Kim finally fixed the paid time off. She had to reach out to the support team and it turns out Kim just hadn’t scrolled down far enough and missed a tick box! Its frustrating but at least its sorted now.

In the afternoon Kim had three meetings back to back. The first was about some company merch that she would like to order. So Kim pulled together all the people who would be involved, she presented her ideal vendor she thinks that the company should work with and also shared the product that she thought was the beat fit. Everyone loved the suggestions and now things have been set in motion to get an order in. They also discussed and finalised a date for another party!

The second meeting was between Kim and her colleague where they worked through the paperwork needed for Kims provincial nomination paperwork. Then they both went over to a meeting with someone that will be joining the company soon. They discussed the role and the persons goals to see how well they align.

A while after that meeting Kim had an impromptu quick call with a couple of people to discuss a piece of writing they helped Kim with. One thing that Kim, and many other people, want to be beautifully written in all job postings for the company is the diversity ans inclusion section. So Kim asked if people would want to help and they did! So they all jumped on a call during the evening ro make a few edits together. It went so well and really encapsulates the values of the company.

Evening

Kim managed to finish working at a pretty good time and got started on cooking a wonderful dinner! Kim made chicken with dumplings, from her cookbook, which was like a chicken stew with dumplings in…Very delicious!

Curtis watched a bit of the World Junior Hockey Championship final whilst Kim cooked and once dinner was ready we watched some TV.

In the remainder of the evening, we watched more TV and played some games, too.

Place 72 – Day 487: Vancouver, BC – Coast Guard Santa

We woke up around 11:00 today, had some cinnamon buns for breakfast and then, once we were ready, we went out for a walk.

The weather was much better today, and actually quite pleasant, so we had a nice long walk.

We walked to Stanley Park again, coffee in hand, and just had a nice long walk and chat.

Whilst we were walking back towards home, we heard loud Christmas music, as well as some loud engine sounds. We were confused, but then out at sea we saw a coast guard boat/hovercraft with someone dressed as Santa on top.

Very random, but fun!

We walked back home and relaxed, then Kim made African-Style stew which was similar to the previous one she made and it was delicious!

We watched some TV, relaxed and headed to bed at a decent time.

Kim has just a dayabd a half of work this week, and Curtis has 4 days.

Place 72 – Day 462: Vancouver, BC – A New Work Laptop!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis woke up and his ear was blocked again, so no hearing for him!

Curtis had a few meetings today. One of them was a 1 on 1 and then after that he had done lunch.

Once lunch was done, he had a strategic meeting with his team to discuss some plans over the next month or so.

After that, Curtis did some tickets and then the day was done.

Kim’s Day

Kim did a few little admin things before having a chat with a department head to get their thoughts on the facilities project. He agreed with the general plan and is on the same page, which is great. He also mentioned to maybe run a survey to get other peoples opnion. So after the meeting Kim started a survey and she wanted to send it out right away, but she wasn’t 100% happy with it. So she will think about things that should be included and make some changes before she sends it out.

For the rest of the morning Kim did a few small tasks like update a new starter and send over new job descriptions for people to review ahead of tomorrows meeting. Kim and her colleague agreed that they would set up Kim’s current laptop for the new starter and get that sent off in the afternoon. So Kim wiped the laptop and then made the new profiles, added some apps to the laptop and got it set up and ready to ship over.

Kim then went to Apple to pick up a new laptop for herself and then went to Fedex to ship the older laptop to the new starter. Once she got home Kim started to set up her new laptop.

Once it was up and running Kim sent out invites for the first round of the connect four tournament. She wrote up instructions on how it works and then sent out all the invites. As the winter party is fast approaching Kim decided to get started on the quiz part. She would like to make a 20-25 question quiz about winter celebrations, facts and sports.

Just before she finished for the day Kim had a call about the facilities project. They went over the new requirements and made plans for meetings tomorrow.

Evening

Kim worked fairly late this evening but once she was done, we watched some TV together and had the remaining stew from yesterday.

Curtis tried a few more things to unblock his ear which seemed to work a little, but he has an appointment tomorrow evening to get it checked out.

Place 72 – Day 461: Vancouver, BC – Hearing Is Back & Another Application!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis woke up and his ear was still feeling blocked, so when he went for a shower, he made sure it was very hot and made the bathroom nice and steamy.

He got out the shower and rubbed his ear and voila, he could all of a sudden hear again! This made him very happy, but he wanted to see how it went throughout the day and see if it stayed the same. Luckily, it did, so he has no worry about it now!

Curtis did a lot of tickets today and had just a couple of meetings.

Late afternoon, he got an email that he has been invited to apply for the provincial nomination, which will hopefully speed up his application for PR!

Curtis spent the first hour or so after working getting this all completed and ready to go as much as he can, whilst waiting for his company to do a bit of work for it.

Kim’s Day

Kim joined a seminar this morning about Diversity and Inclusion to see what she can learn there to bring forward into this, still quite new, role. It was so interesting and Kim was so happy she attended.

Straight after the seminar Kim had a quick meeting with her teammate about her PR application and then Kim asked her a load of questions. Then they both joined the weekly company meeting where Kim gave a small update and took the notes.

After the meeting Kim focused on making sure things are up to date, adding notes for things she needs clarification on, making plans for the next steps in a few things and updating a few logs and documents.

Kim spent some time in the afternoon working on the facilities project. She had a few questions so asked a couple of the executive team to join a meeting to go over a few things before she continues. It was good she did as half of the option Kim had didn’t work with the overall vision someone had. It was a short and sweet catch up, but she got some really great information and direction from it. She took this information, went back to the person helping out and amended the plan for the week accordingly.

Kim finished her day buy purchasing a laptop and making a to do list for the next day.

Evening

Kim made an African style stew and it was super tasty!

Once we ate that, Kim really wanted to watch a film that Curtis wasn’t interested in, so she went and chilled and watched that whilst Curtis played games for the evening.

We reconvened together in the late evening and watched a bit more TV then we headed off to bed.

Place 72 – Day 156: Vancouver, BC – Ale Hunt & Falling!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work at the perfect time and was told that there was a fire in the building next door!

Luckily, Curtis didn’t have to evacuate, but the sirens and alarms could be heard for a while.

Curtis did a lot of the same as he did yesterday, but also had a few tickets that came in, right after he cleared most of his out!

The afternoon was the busiest part of the day, with many a ticket to get stuck into and a couple more challenging then normal.

Curtis left the office after work and walked home.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim had a fair few productive meetings! Her first meeting was relatively early in the morning was with her colleague and they discussed the holiday party invites and a little bit about travel. It was a short and sweet meeting.

After this meeting Kim had a meeting with finance about credit cards and they ironed out some of the processes and that meeting went well.

Kim then had some time to catch up on emails when someone from a stationary company came in and said he had a meeting with her too! It turned out that he had the wrong email address so all Kim knew was that he might be coming in at some point in the afternoon.

Kim grabbed her colleague and they had an interesting meeting.

After this is was suddenly 13:30, Kim and her colleague were so hungry so they went and grabbed crepes by using a discount and had a little sit down and catch up over lunch.

After lunch Kim spent most of her afternoon sorting out the first aid cupboard with 2 and then one other first aider. Kim had to nip out a few time to greet a candidate and organise some travel.

It was a really productive day, but it felt like Kim didn’t stop for a second!

Ale Hunt

Curtis got home before Kim, so he did the cleaning, vacuuming etc and took out all the bins.

When Kim got back home, she made a stew which was then bound to become a pie! She needed ale for this, so Curtis went to find some.

The liquor store didn’t have really any, so much so that Curtis had to hunt the lone bottle of ale down! It’s a 9% beer, too!

Kim finished off the dinner and Curtis had some as a stew as the pie won’t be constructed until tomorrow.

Kim’s training session was good fun.

Kim was able to try out a replacement combo for her routine, its her favourite combo so she is glad to get it put in!

She did also fall off and it would have been onto her head but luckily she got her arms up quick!

Coffee & Homesense

We eventually left the house and went up to check out a few things we needed from Homesense, but first, coffee!

Curtis wanted to get a cardamom latte to see if that is any good, but they didn’t have any, so he got a cappucino instead whilst Kim got a salted caramel hot chocolate.

We sat and relaxed for a bit and then went up to Homesense to find a few things. The main things we wanted were;

  • A duvet
  • An airtight contantainer for coffee
  • A dressing gown for Kim

We were able to get these things pretty easily and Curtis was also able to find a coat which he needed, and it was half price!

We got all of this (which was quite a bit of money) and then took it home before heading back out to go to the supermarket. We spent around $150 there which wasn’t too bad, but it was busy in there today.

Homemade Beef Stew

We got back home and Kim spent a couple of hours making a delicious beef stew with dumplings and a side of cauliflower cheese. A perfect warming dinner as the weather starts to get colder.

We settled and watched Vikings and had some ice cream.

A great Sunday night!
