Place 72 – Day 141: Vancouver, BC – Post Training Socialising

Curtis’ Day

The days are starting to get a little busier for Curtis now, since people are coming back from their time off over Christmas.

Curtis did tickets for most of the morning and then had his 1:1.

After lunch, Curtis was able to contact people with regards to some access they should no longer have, so he was able to discuss that with people, as they were back from their holidays.

Curtis was so busy that all of a sudden it was the end of the day!

He got home at the perfect time to watch the leafs game, and Kim was out, too.

Kim’s Day

Kim didn’t really have a varied day. She managed to get some HR stuff done and she worked on the Wiki project. She then worked on catching up on some older tasks. For example she continued building up a stationary order she started listening to voicemails and saved lots of invoices.

In the afternoon Kim handed out more ice lollies and some hats for those that missed the main handout!

Post Training Socialising

Kim went out to training right after work.

Kim had a good time and actually decided to go out with someone afterwards!

They went for a drink and some food and just chatted for a bit. It was really great to have a chat and relax.

Curtis made teriyaki chicken with noodles for dinner which was surprisingly good, actually.

Kim got back and we watched some TV and played some Crash Bandicoot before sleeping.

Place 49 – Day 298: Auckland – Tāwharanui Beach & Fish Burgers!

We had a nice 10+ hour sleep last night, which made up for early start on Saturday!

We woke up at 09:30 and had a spot of breakfast before we got ready for the day and jumped in the car.

Josh drove us to Tāwharanui Beach, which is a beautiful surf beach! He weather wasn’t that great at times, but the rain held off and we have some great fun. We walked on the beach and onto the rocks, where there is a few rock pools which are beautiful clear water!

Kim jumped into The above pool, which was apparently very cold!

After the rocks, we went back and off them and up a little hull where we got a really nice view of the beach.

We left the beach and went back to Josh’s grandparents’ house, where we had some lunch. They made us some beer battered snapper burgers and battered sausages, which was excellent!

We then got packed up and got on the way home, but not before stopping at an the old ‘cementworks’ building, which is ruins of an old cement factory, which was pretty cool to see!

We drove on from here and headed towards home, stopping for an ice cream on the way back.

We had quite a bit of traffic on the way home, but we got back home at 16:15.

We popped down to the shop to get stuff for the week, and then went to McDonald’s for a coffee as Curtis got one for free through the monopoly promotion.

We got home and did a few chores, doing laundry, making lunch and a few other things.

We then booked some more accommodation and then had some leftover spaghetti Bolognese for dinner, which watching some YouTube videos.

After this, we got ready for bed and spoke to Kim’s family regarding the trip.

Back to work tomorrow, which is a shame as we’ve had such a fun weekend!

Place 49 – Day 276: Auckland – Wearable Arts & Post Game Antics

Kim woke up at 08:30 as it was ridiculously warm! Curtis managed to sleep for a bit longer and got up at 09:30.

Once Curtis got out of bed, Kim made pancakes and bacon for breakfast which as ever, was delicious!

After breakfast, we got showered and ready to go out. The weather today was excellent, lovely and warm.

Kim was going out with Tabitha to the city where they went to a ‘wearable arts’ show. Curtis drove them down.

Kim’s Day;

Once Kim and Tabitha got to the city, they found out they needed to buy tickets for the event which they did not do. This meant they could only do the free part, which was a shame but still cool! There were 3 people dressed up in interesting art designs.

After this, they went for a stroll around the city, seen as it was such a lovely day outside.

Curtis picked up Kim and Tabitha and brought they home. Right after that, they went back out again to get some Japanese food for lunch.

Both of us;

Once Kim got home again, we chilled out and Kim and Tabitha watched some TV.

At 16:45, we left for Curtis’ first ice hockey game in a month!

Whilst Curtis was getting changed, Kim and Tabitha went to a pet shop and there was a beautiful husky puppy there!

Curtis was using borrowed skates. They fit well but it was odd for him to get used to. It took the whole first period for him to skate as normal!

The game was a close one, though Curtis’ team outshot the other team by quite a lot! Curtis had some good chances but unfortunately the game ended 0-0.

After the game, we went out for dinner with Tabitha, Colten and his girlfriend Sarah. We went to Goode Brothers as we had the voucher from the quiz night!

We had a good few hours there and it was really nice to chill and just chat. We all good very into the rugby that was on, too!

We left there and drove home, getting home at 22:45. Curtis wasn’t feeling too well so we went to bed.

Tomorrow is Curtis’ birthday!

Place 49 – Day 252: Auckland – Matakana, Orewa Beach & 30th birthday Drinks

We woke up at 08:00 and Curtis took Gareth & Lisa to collect their rental car, which was just 10 minutes down the road. Whilst the car was being acquired, Kim made pancakes, bacon, sausage & egg for breakfast.

Curtis, Lisa and Gareth got back, had breakfast and then we were on the road. We had to stop at a garage for Kim to get her car’s WOF (Warrant of Fitness) and then we made our way to Matakana. We went to Matakana previously together but wanted to take Curtis’ family as we thought they’d enjoy it.

We got there and went right to the market, where we bought some homemade honey whiskey! We took a wander around the market and then took a look at the eels in the river.

We walked around the river and went up to the cafe where we got a coffee and chilled for a bit.

After this we found a playpark which we had more fun at than the kids did we think!

We played on the tyre swing and then long slide before deciding we should stop and head off.

We drove down to Orewa where we wanted to go onto the beach.

We walked on the beach for a bit and then went to get some chips and a drink.

We sat and ate our chips on a park bench near the beach and once we were done we left.

We went back to our house to get a few items we needed and Kim had a quick nap!

After her nap, Kim felt much better and we drove back over to Curtis’ family in Campbell’s bay.

We got ready there and then drove back home to pick up Nicola. We drove to the Viaduct and went to a pub there where Nicola was hosting her 30th birthday drinks.

We had a few drinks and messed around with the Hawaiian themed items and then headed off as Kim wasnt feeling great and we were both exhausted.

We got back to Campbell’s bay and had the roast dinner that Lisa had cooked for us which was excellent and then went right to bed. Another full day tomorrow!

Rotorua

Place 60 – Day 1: Rotorua – Hell’s Gate Sulphur Spa

We had to get up and go this morning! We woke up at 07:00, got showered and ready to set off.

We set off by 07:50, which was the perfect time! We had a 4 hour drive to Rotorua ahead of us. We stopped for breakfast on the way at the local McDonald’s!

One of the views from the car!

We got to Rotorua at a great time, around 13:30.

We arrived at Hell’s Gate, which is the oldest sulphur spa in new Zealand.

We first walked around the hot springs, each of them varying in temperature and some looked awesome, with them bubbling, too!

There was a forest section too, which we got some nice photos of, including a waterfall which was naturally 40°C!

This took around 45 minutes, then it was time to get in the sulphur pools. These were naturally heated by sulphur and around 40°C.

We stayed in here for about 30-45 minutes before it got a bit too hot for us, so we got out and showered. We all still smelled of sulphur though!

We left here and went to the campsite where we all showered again to get rid of the smell of sulphur.

After this, Kim made a magnificent chilli con carne which we all ate together.

We then went and sat in the ‘TV room’ here at the campsite where we met a newlywed couple from Melbourne, Australia. We all had a chat for a few hours before it got to 22:15 and we all decided it was bedtime.

Tomorrow is another fun packed day, but is also the last day of the roadtrip (but not the last day of Curtis’ family visiting!).
