Place 72 – Day 543: Vancouver, BC – Snowy Walk & Lugging Stuff Around

We woke up a little later than we planned, but it was really nice to sleep!

There was a little bit more snowfall overnight, but not much, but it was still snowing when we woke up!

We had a pain au chocolat each for breakfast and then got ourselves ready for the day.

We went out in the snow for a bit of a walk.

The snow was quite heavy when we left, so we were getting pretty soaked, but it was nice to get some air.

We grabbed a coffee and went for a short walk. We walked to Curtis’ work as he had to pickup a package that was meant to get shipped on Friday, but due to an error, it was not!

We grabbed that so Curtis could take it home and drop it off to the new hire, who luckily lives right opposite us.

It wasn’t the easiest box to lug home as it was fairly heavy and an awkward size, but we did it!

Once elevator is down in our building, so we had to wait a while to get back up the apartment.

Right when we got up, Kim made a terrific chicken and mushroom risotto.

We ate our dinner and watched the film Wine Country which was easy to watch and pretty funny.

We then chilled out for the rest of the evening and we even played some card games! We played Dobble and Exploding Kittens which Kim’s dad sent.

Kim got her work permit paperwork done this morning, but the website to upload it was down so she was unable to do so! Hopefully she can do that tomorrow.

Tomorrow is a day off, so sleeping is on the cards!

Place 72 – Day 542: Vancouver, BC – Playing In The Snow

We woke up this morning to quite a bit of snow, and it was still snowing!

Kim went to Tim Horton’s to get some breakfast, which was very similar to the one was had in Iceland when we got engaged! Nothing particularly crazy, just a breakfast muffin with a hash brown, doughnut and coffee, but it reminded us of being there!

After breakfast, Kim got ready and met a colleague for some distanced playing in the snow. She took the boogie board we have and slid down a hill a few times. They also had a bit of a walk but it got a bit too busy, so Kim went home.

After Kim got back home, we watched a bit of TV and then it was time for more games with work people! Kim played a lot of games for a few hours and it was a lot of fun!

Whilst she did that, Curtis watched hockey.

After we were done, it was time to get some food for the week. We couldn’t be bothered to drive to the supermarket, especially with the snow, so we walked down to a downtown supermarket near us to get enough stuff for the week.

We got all our stuff and couldn’t find anything we wanted for dinner there, so we ordered Tacofino and picked it up on the way home.

We got back home and ate that, then we took down the recycling as there was quite a bit there!

We got back to the apartment and just relaxed for the remainder of the evening. It’s a long weekend this week so that’s awesome!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis didn’t expect his day to be busy, but it very much was!

The day started with many tickets needed to be attended to, and then he also had to book a shipment with a courier.

Once that was done, he learned how to do something for a colleague which was very helpful, and then he had a team meeting which lasted for an hour and a half.

After that was done, he did a few more tickets and answered some questions from people and then had himself a bit of lunch.

Once that was done, a colleague wanted to share some information, so he joined a chat with them about that, and then Curtis had another meeting.

The meeting he had was about an integration to some software, which everyone wanted to understand a bit more and ensure we were able to do that and review it on multiple fronts from his team’s end, with regards to security.

After that meeting, he had some actions from that meeting to do a few things.

It snowed fairly heavy today, but there was no chance of it settling as the sun came right out afterwards.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent a lot of the day in meetings! In the morning she had a quick chat with her colleague before attending a meeting and taking notes. Then she co-hosted an interview. After the interview she had a chat with the two other people on the panel.

Kim then had a couple of hours to send out emails and invites before co-hosting another interview. The panel then joined another meeting to discuss position and the next steps.

Kim then had a call with someone from another team to get an idea of what some of the meetings planned for this week are. It was such a useful chat!

She finished the day by sending out more emails and meeting invites and then had another quick call to plan for tomorrow and the rest of the week.

Evening

Curtis watched hockey after work and Kim worked fairly late, so we just had pizza for dinner and relaxed for the rest of the evening. Nothing special but perfect after our busy days!

Place 72 – Day 217: Vancouver, BC – Lynn Valley Walk, Again

Late Wake Up

We slept in a bit, but neither of us had a very good sleep anyway, so it was quite nice to sleep in.

We got up around 11:30 and had some scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast.

We both got showered and ready for the day and then we went out!

Lynn Valley Walk

We drove 30 minutes up to Lynn Valley and went for a walk around there.

When we arrived, there was very little parking, but we were able to find some eventually!

The weather was perfect for a walk – not too hot and not too cold, with sunshine so it was perfect!

We walked around for about 2 hours in total, even through snow and ice, too!

Our walk back was a bit quicker but we really enjoyed our walk and definitely needed it.

Blackened Chicken Salad

We got home and were pretty tired from our walk, but we did feel great!

Kim made blackened chicken Mexican salad, with black beans, sweetcorn, lime tortilla chips and Nando’s Chicken!

This food was SO GOOD!

We watched a bit of TV and ended up sleeping fairly early as we were tired.

Place 72 – Day 155: Vancouver, BC – Another Free Lunch!

Curtis’ Day

The walk to work was a lot better than it has been! The snow had melted a little, so walking was easier.

Curtis’ day in general was pretty slow, though that did help him get two projects completed! He now has no projects to do, so he’s looking forward to getting more now.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by clearing out the storage room. She got all the decorations for all the celebrations out to go through and then also collected all of the gaming equipment lying around to go through. She managed to empty the room and test some of the gaming things across the whole time she had allocated to sort through everything, so it looks like a fair amount of it will be next weeks problem.

After this Kim sent out a reminder email to everyone about the monthly social talks as no one has signed up for the first month, she also resent the meeting invite so its in everyone’s calendars.

Kim then joined her colleague for lunch at one if the hotels. It was great to catch up with the rep.

Once they got back Kim sorted a business card order for someone and then started on the Vancouver food order for next week. Kim then ordered a few first aid items and things for Chinese New Year off of Amazon and then she did the UK food order.

Just before she left Kim popped out to get the Friday afternoon drinks for tomorrow as she is out of the office all day!

An Evening Together

Neither of us had evening plans, which was really nice!

We watched a lot of TV together, had dinner together (Curtis had a chicken pie and Kim had a tuna baked potato).

We watched a show called Borderline which is a funny British comedy show.

Tomorrow is Friday and it can’t come soon enough…We’re tired!

Place 72 – Day 154: Vancouver, BC – The Trek To Work

Trek To Work

We had a bit of a trek to work this morning as the snow had really picked up overnight and there was a lot of it on the ground!

It took us a while to navigate through the snow to work, but we got there eventually with no issues.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was feeling quite a bit better today. He was fairly busy with tickets and his small project in the morning, but come the afternoon it was pretty quiet.

Curtis trudged home in all the snow, but it had luckily stopped snowing as heavy as it was from 14:00-16:00.

Kim’s Day

To start her day Kim had a call meeting with a vendor. It was really good and they covered everything and asked a bunch of questions.
After the meeting Kim worked on a few smaller administration tasks and spent some time listening to her voicemail.

She then popped out with the rest of her team to grab some lunch, they all ate at their desks but Kim sat in the kitchen and ate. Shortly after this Kim and her teammate went out and got hot chocolate and doughnuts and set that up for the very empty office.
Kim then ordered some breakfast for the meeting that is happening on Friday and later she tidied up the boardroom after a day long meeting left.

Kim stopped by Starbucks to get a coffee for herself and the other lady on front desk as there is a lot of snow and it is cold! When she arrived Kim was invited to take part in a class so she did and she had a great time! It was a lyrical class and the routine was to Bruises by Lewis Capaldi and it was beautiful. It was so flowly and easy to follow!

Evening

Curtis did nothing all evening, just played games and watched some YouTube videos.

Kim went out to training as well as to help out there! She was out for a few hours and had to walk there and back as she would normally drive but it was a bit too snowy for that, so easier to drive.

Once Kim got back, we relaxed together, watched a bit of TV and went to bed.

Place 72 – Day 152: Vancouver, BC – Plenty More Snow

Snow

We woke up to even more snow this morning. This was cool, except for the fact the bridge we walk on was completely frozen so we had to walk carefully on the way to work.

Curtis has had quite a bad cold since yesterday, so the -8 temperature didn’t help on the way to work!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis continued to feel rotten all day, but did get a lot done. He fixed a couple of other migrations that were causing him problems, so he got those completed.

He also got a lot of tickets done and had a team meeting.

At 16:00, Curtis left the office to head home and relax as he really wasn’t feeling great.

Kim’s Day

Kim caught up on emails from the weekend and saved a few invoices to start her day.

Just before 10 Kim headed out to look for mini wine glasses and a few bottles of bubbly for a celebration in the morning. When she got back she set it up and all the offices in the company celebrated! It was a really fun morning!

Kim then spent some of her morning trying to.fix an issue with someone’s profile on the travel booking site. After that she had to sort out the postage machine, which also required her calling for support for that!

After both of these Kim ran a raffle to win one of two broken full espresso coffee machines! To ensure fairness Kim had someone else draw out the names, which was lucky as one of her colleagues won!

Kim then spent some time remaking the floor plan as it didn’t save from last time.

She then had a chat with a colleague from a different team in regards to their desk set up, so Kim made a few adjustments and spent some time researching other things that may be able to help!

On the way home Kim stopped at a few shops, one was to pick up some essential oils to put into the humidifier to help Curtis with his cold!

Weekly Clean!

We did our weekly clean this evening, after Kim got home from doing a bit of shopping.

Kim then made a veggie bolognese which was excellent.

We watched some TV and Curtis relaxed and slept at a good time with hopes that he’ll be better tomorrow as he has a hockey game!

Place 72 – Day 150: Vancouver, BC – Lynn Headwaters Regional Park

Lynn Headwaters Regional Park

We had a sleep in but then decided we wanted to go out somewhere.

Kim had been told about Lynn Valley, which is a village in North Vancouver, so we drove up there and did so with the hope of snow!

It took us 30 minutes and then we arrived.

We walked a bit further down the road and found a set of stairs, so we went down those!

We came to a beautiful clear river, which we continued to follow until we reached Lynn Headwaters Regional Park.

We started a trail and the further we got, the more snow there was!

We got to see some amazing sights, mostly the clear water river with the backdrop of a snow topped mountain which looked beautiful.

The snowy floor was beautiful and at times there was noone around, so it was silent and just relaxing.

We walked for a long while and just before it got dark we walked all the way back up to the car.

Coffee & Snacks

We treated ourselves with a coffee at a coffee shop in the village nearby. We shared a toasted cajun chicken sandwich and Curtis had a lemon slice whilst Kim had a nanaimo bar.

We got some things from the supermarket and drove home.

We got back home and were actually very tired! We watched some TV and then had sweet chilli wedges for dinner, whilst watching the movie Game Night.

Place 72 – Day 144: Vancouver, BC – Snow Prepared!

Snow Prepared

We got up and out fairly quickly this morning, to try and get ourselves prepared with snow clothes!

We plan to go skiing/snowboarding, so we needed to make sure we had the right clothing.

We started about a 20 minute walk from our house at a store called Sport Junkies.

This place is mostly a used sporting goods store, but it has been recommended to us by a few people so we checked it out.

Curtis successfully found some trousers for the snow, and pretty fast, but Kim was unable to find anything.

We left here and went to Winners to see if Kim could find anything for herself, which she did! She got some white Superdry snow trousers.

After this success, it certainly seemed that we deserved a reward, so we sat in Starbucks with a coffee for a bit.

After this, we did a larger shop at the supermarket as we needed a few general items that we don’t purchase too often.

We got these and then headed back home.

Homemade Thai Green Curry

Once we got back, it was time to make dinner!

Kim made a Thai green curry, which was terrific!

We ate this, watched some TV, did some laundry and cleaned the bathroom…because fun Sunday things!

Place 72 – Day 203: Vancouver, BC – Car Service

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and had a lot of emails!

He got messages from a few different people asking for some help, so he went off to each of those people and assisted them.

At his team meeting, he wore his new team T-shirt along with the rest of his team. During that meeting, the team surprised their boss by giving her a t-shirt as well which they had all paid for so she could have one too.

Curtis’ day was meeting heavy. There was a big debrief meeting after black Friday, so he had to setup for that as well as attend.

After that, there was another meeting for his team and in the morning he did have a brief meeting regarding some software they had all be trying out.

Curtis was able to try the new coffee that was added to the office collection today. They now have a (hot) nitro brew coffee on tap…one dark roast and one medium. It was incredibly smooth and delicious!

After lunch, there were no meetings, so Curtis had some time to get on with other things.

As well as this, he has a colleague that is visiting from Winnipeg, so he was chatting with him as well as learning some network things from him.

Kim’s Day

Kim left early and dropped the car off at a garage that is owed by one of the dancers she trains with. They had a lovely chat and then Kim took the bus into work.

When she got in Kim did a thorough check of the floor to ensure that everything was clean, as she had recieved a few comments lately about it. She took photos of things that she felt weren’t up to standard and sent them over to be looked at over the evening.

Kim then spent some time booking a meeting room and some catering for a meeting that is taking place tomorrow.

Kim then spent a fair amount of time going over invoices and making sure they are all sent to Accounts so she knows that they will get paid and everyone will be fed during the party.

In the afternoon Kim had a quick meeting with her teammate where they went over the plans for the next few weeks, as there is so much happening!

They have the quarterly new hire social lunch, a pot luck and the holiday party, all by next Friday. They agreed on ‘guess the song’ but a festive addition for the game for the social lunch, they went over what to order for the potluck and agreed to send out a chaser message to remind people and they went over the plan for the holiday party.

Kim explained the menus and rough plan for the room set up.
After the meeting Kim sent out the reminder and then spoke to people in regards to donating old brand backpacks to a Starbucks that is trying to collect 300 to make survival kits for homeless youths. The great thing is it was all approved and marketing even want to come along to take photos too! Its great for Kim to have the ability to help out in this way!

Kim then took 2 trains to go pick up the car. She left with a small list of things that certainly have to be done or may need to be done!

Chilli Chicken

We had some chilli marinated chicken in the fridge so it was time to eat that!

Curtis cooked it up with some more sweet chilli sauce, some soy & some ginger and we had that with rice.

After dinner, Kim went up to the shop to get a few things we needed.

We watched a bit of TV and then went to bed! Today went very fast.
