Place 72 – Day 338: Vancouver, BC – Pixel Buds

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ start to the morning was filled with admin and a lot of people messaging him questions and asking for help, so that took up his time until his 10:30 weekly team meeting.

The team meeting took an hour and then Curtis had new tickets to get sorted, as there were a lot that arrived during the meeting.

This took Curtis nicely to lunch time.

After lunch, Curtis was able to fix an issue for someone and then did some other work and admin which took him nicely to the end of the day.

During the day, Curtis received his Pixel Buds, his new wireless earbuds, which he is enjoying!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by handing out some post and then she joined a couple of colleagues in getting a coffee.

When they got back to the office Kim drafted and sent out some emails before making notes for an upcoming meeting. She also called a postal service to see if there have been problems delivering the post lately, but it doesn’t seem like there is.

Kim was due to have an hour long meeting with her colleague to go over some events happening over the next few months, but instead it lasted the rest of the day! Kim made a quick report just before the meeting and then they got stuck in. They spoke about vendors and each of their options, called a vendor, organised the budged, sorted the timeline of planning, arranged the day of events and made a game plan for the next few days.

After the meeting Kim drew up a schedule for the day of and made a guide for what each event is and how it will work. Kim also reached out to the vendors she had been talking to for further information. She then wrote up a to do list for tomorrow before heading home.

Teriyaki Chicken

Kim got home and marinaded some chicken in teriyaki and then we tried on some clothes that we got delivered.

We then took out the recycling and Kim finished off the dinner.

We watched some TV, played some mini golf and relaxed for the evening.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work around 09:00 and today was the start of the Hackathon.

For the hackathon, Curtis’ team is making an application which links to another application that the company uses, which will help everyone find people that can do a certain job within the company.

Curtis is very passionate about this idea and luckily his team was able to find a great developer that can develop it!

Most of the day was spent having meetings and making decisions around the application.

There were a few things to help with regarding other people’s ideas, as they needed some permissions for things.

Curtis did a bit of configuration work at the end of the day for the new helpdesk software, and then waited for Kim to arrive at his work.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with having to call FedEx, this is never a fun task and this call was in regards to something being held at customs.

This isn’t something Kim has dealt with before so she called twice and spent while with them trying to figure it out.

Then, Kim stepped away from her desk before she was able to send the information to sort it and when she returned she had recieved an email saying the laptop had been released from customs. That means that it was all a waste of time!

Kim then sent out a few letters and headed out to the post box. On her way back she checked the mail box and distributed the mail.

After her lunch Kim had a meeting with her two colleagues to go over the Wiki project.

They went over how to format and the set up for storing information so it was a really productive and useful meeting, especially given that Kim hasn’t given this project much of a second thought for the past few months.

Kim spent the rest of her afternoon closing of mini items before she goes on leave for the rest of the week.

Kim ordered pizza, orgnaised the plates and napkins for that and made reminders for other things and cleaned up the reception area.

Aurora Winter Festival

After work, Kim met Curtis at his work and then we went, along with two people from Curtis’ work, to the Aurora Winter Festival.

This festival was at the PNE Amphitheatre, so we had to take a bus to get to it.

It was raining and had been all day, so it didn’t give us much hope for good weather! We caught the 95 bus for 30 minutes until we got to PNE.

We had already bought tickets and so got those scanned and entered the park.

It was a little disappointing right off the bat as it wasn’t busy at all, so the atmosphere wasn’t great.

We had to buy tickets to go on any rides, so Kim bought two tickets to go on a tube slide!

After this, we walked around and looked at the market stalls, but they weren’t too interesting.

It was also still raining and cold, so that didn’t assist us.

We went for a walk around a short trail which had gingerbread houses on.

There was then a craft tent which we went in and we all made baubles!

Kim had to concentrate, so here is her concentration face.

We left here and did another walk, which took us through the forest and to a few different light displays.

We got hungry after this, so we went to look at the food trucks.

We both decided on noodles, so Kim got chicken teriyaki and Curtis got pad thai.

Neither of the meals were great, but it was food!

We were all pretty tired and fed up by this point, so we went our separate ways.

To get back home, we had to car the 95 bus back to the city and then take the Canada line home.

Hot tub!

We got back and Kim went in the hot tub to warm up, whilst Curtis went for a long, hot, shower.

We watched some TV, had a hot chocolate and relaxed.

Kim doesn’t have work tomorrow and Curtis is working half of the day so we can travel to Victoria to spend the weekend!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work a little later than usual today, but still on time!

He had some admin to get done and got ready for his team project meeting.

After that meeting, Curtis had a few ticket based things to get done and then had a few meetings.

He had a meeting to discuss a new process with his team and then after that, he had a training session regarding some network things.

Curtis did something that took a long time, but he was glad he got it done.

When Curtis finished lunch, he completed an offboard and once that was done he put away a bunch of hardware that returned from a conference and then went and had a drink with people in the office.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by going through emails and setting herself up. She then spent a while going through her expenses and making sure everything matches.

She had a meeting with a colleague to go over the ordering process for the two other offices while she is away on leave. It was great to get a chance to go through a the log ins and processes with help the first time.

The pizza then arrived for the monthly social talk so Kim set that up and then the talks went ahead. was a shorter session today with only 3 talks so Kim allowed people a longer time slot.

After she cleared all the pizza boxes away Kim went to set up guitar hero in the kitchen. She forgot that she kept the xbox and everything thats needed upstairs for easy access. This meant she took a trolley all the way to the basement to pick up a load of useless stuff that she just has to return back there at some point.

Kim had been experiencing a little strain in her shoulder lately so she had arranged for a 30 minute deep tissue massage through her insurance company to sort that out. She went to that, had a great time with the therapist there, he recently loved back to BC from Auckland, New Zealand so there was lots to talk about.

When Kim got back she helped finish the set up for the Friday afternoon drinks and got back to work.

Kim took the quiet time to go through the transactions that take a little more digging to find the answer. She is now only left with a couple that require waiting on a response or that need a phone call.

She wrote up the message for an upcoming holiday themed potluck and spent a good amount of time going through the backlog! It was great to have a bit of time to answer the smaller questions and get some stuff off of her plate.

Hockey Time!

Curtis had a hockey game at 21:15. He got home and sorted out his hockey kit, as well as re-taping his stick.

He put all of that in the car and then made some dinner.

He made chicken teriyaki with rice, it was tasty and quick and easy!

At 20:10, we left to head to he rink.

Curtis’ team lost 7-2…which isn’t good, but they did have a lot of spare players instead of regular players.

Curtis’ line played pretty well, but at the end of the game, curtis got 6 penalty minutes for retaliating to someone cross checking him.

Due to this, he was kicked from the game, with there being just a couple of minutes left in the game.

We got back home and it was pretty much bed time, so we got ready to sleep.
