Place 72 – Day 536: Vancouver, BC – 3 Coffees & Arctic Wind

We woke up naturally at a good time which was perfect.

We saw the weather outside and knew we had to head out for a walk!

We had some French toast for breakfast and then got ourselves ready to go out.

When we went out, we stopped at Starbucks for a coffee and walked on.

We walked all the way to ‘peaked pies’ where we picked up some Bundaberg ginger beer as well as a lamington cake for Kim and another coffee for Curtis (his 3rd of the day).

We then walked slowly back home along the seawall, in the Arctic wind that we have here at the moment, which was cold but refreshing!

We got back home and Kim did some work for a while.

Curtis got a pretty bad headache which made him throw up, which wasn’t great, but we think he had too much coffee and that was the cause! We will obviously keep an eye on him, but he felt much better after!

After Kim did a bit more work, we made chicken burgers and had some leftover potatoes from a few days ago which we had with them.

We watched TV and chilled out together after dinner.

Place 72 – Day 194: Vancouver, BC – Fire! ðŸ”¥

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very busy morning!

A lot of tickets came in and he had a lot of replies on tickets, so he spent all morning sorting those.

He did also have a meeting to discuss some system administrator applications that the company has and how his team can use those.

There was a fire alarm around 13:00 and it was actually real! The fire department came and it turned out to be a burning fan coil causing a small fire 6 floors down from Curtis’ office!

After getting let back in, Curtis had lunch and then a meeting with regards to one of his Business Analysis projects.

Curtis did a couple more tickets and then finished the day off with some training.

Kim’s Day

In the morning Kim had a meeting with the cleaning company where they did a walk around. It was great to meet a new person from the team and have a chance to touch base after working with them for a few months.
Kim then spent a lot of the morning ordering loads of different stuff. She confirmed the pizza order for Friday that was placed the day before, she did the weekly shop and orgnaised a few things for someone who just had their baby!

In the early afternoon there were a couple of people in for interviews so Kim stayed on hand to help out there. Then she had a quick impromptu meeting with her colleague to go over a few things.

For some of the afternoon Kim managed to squeeze in some studying too, which was great!

Evening

Curtis got home and watched the leafs game, which was an important one and the leafs won!

He started to feel a bit unwell, for some reason, but he was alright.

Kim went off to training for a couple of hours and had a pretty fun time!

Kims first class went really well! She was able to do the full combo, it wasn’t pretty, but she managed it. Kim then had an hours break, where she studied again and then went in to work on her routine. It was a but of a flop, but at least she tried!

We had some food and Kim studied more and then we headed to bed.

Friday tomorrow already! Sneaks up every week!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was still feeling under the weather this morning, so he decided to work from home, mostly to stop himself getting anyone else sick.

Curtis’ day was productive, but not massively busy. He got a couple of hours of project work completed and also got a bunch of tickets sorted, too.

After working, Curtis watched hockey and got his stuff ready for his hockey game!

Kim’s Day

Kim ran out to the shop to pick up cream, but also grabbed a chocolate croissant for herself and a coffee for her colleague. Just after she got back she had a meeting with her teammate and it was really good.

They caught up on a few of Kim’s questions and got up to speed on a few things.

Kim then hopped on a coffee date with a remote worker and had a lovely chat with them.

After that call Kim had a call with the travel agency it go over an issue that cropped up yesterday.

In the afternoon Kim went into the first aid meeting but then no one showed up, so instead she emptied a bookcase and moved it into the kitchen to become a book swap and games area.

Kim would love for this to bring a new social aspect into the workplace!

First Aid

Curtis got picked up by a teammate to go to hockey as Kim had training (still in the same area, so she was able to see Curtis’ game after).

Kim arrived an hour early to pole and luckily there was pole free so she was able to take the earlier class. She did the exotic class and loved it and then did the 505 class, but she was quite tired so didn’t do great, but it was so much fun!

Curtis’ hockey game went really well! He got an assist from a hard working play and the team won 3-1! They’ve now beaten every team in the league.

Kim didn’t get to the rink until half way through the 2nd period as the snow was so heavy, she was being careful driving and she also got some food.

During the game, someone on the other team really hurt their ankle, so Kim did first aid on him for a long while.

After the game, Kim drove home and the snow was really coming down! It’s meant to snow overnight and all day tomorrow, so there’ll be plenty around tomorrow too.

Place 72 – Day 152: Vancouver, BC – Plenty More Snow

Snow

We woke up to even more snow this morning. This was cool, except for the fact the bridge we walk on was completely frozen so we had to walk carefully on the way to work.

Curtis has had quite a bad cold since yesterday, so the -8 temperature didn’t help on the way to work!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis continued to feel rotten all day, but did get a lot done. He fixed a couple of other migrations that were causing him problems, so he got those completed.

He also got a lot of tickets done and had a team meeting.

At 16:00, Curtis left the office to head home and relax as he really wasn’t feeling great.

Kim’s Day

Kim caught up on emails from the weekend and saved a few invoices to start her day.

Just before 10 Kim headed out to look for mini wine glasses and a few bottles of bubbly for a celebration in the morning. When she got back she set it up and all the offices in the company celebrated! It was a really fun morning!

Kim then spent some of her morning trying to.fix an issue with someone’s profile on the travel booking site. After that she had to sort out the postage machine, which also required her calling for support for that!

After both of these Kim ran a raffle to win one of two broken full espresso coffee machines! To ensure fairness Kim had someone else draw out the names, which was lucky as one of her colleagues won!

Kim then spent some time remaking the floor plan as it didn’t save from last time.

She then had a chat with a colleague from a different team in regards to their desk set up, so Kim made a few adjustments and spent some time researching other things that may be able to help!

On the way home Kim stopped at a few shops, one was to pick up some essential oils to put into the humidifier to help Curtis with his cold!

Weekly Clean!

We did our weekly clean this evening, after Kim got home from doing a bit of shopping.

Kim then made a veggie bolognese which was excellent.

We watched some TV and Curtis relaxed and slept at a good time with hopes that he’ll be better tomorrow as he has a hockey game!

Place 72 – Day 151: Vancouver, BC – Overnight Snow

Overnight Snow

We woke up this morning to some snow! We didn’t even know it had snowed overnight until we went outside.

We had our breakfast and then left the apartment, after getting ready, to get some shopping done.

We went to Winners first and got Kim some more leggings and took back her snow trousers she bought as she got some better ones.

We left here and went for a coffee.

After coffee, we went to the supermarket and got food for the week and a few other things, such as cold and flu pills for Curtis as he is coming down with a cold!

We came back home and Curtis watched the (terrible) leafs game and then we had the remainder of the leftover veggie chilli with rice for dinner whilst watching some TV. Curtis is hoping he’s feeling better tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 166: Vancouver, BC – Sniffles

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a plan to look at an issue for someone in the morning, which is what he did.

He then continued to do some project work from yesterday.

After his daily team meeting, Curtis had a bit more time to do project work and then had to go into the boardroom to test everything in there and setup for the big company wide meeting that was taking place in there.

The test went went and so did the meeting with just a few hiccups in general and none on the Vancouver office side, which was excellent!

After the meeting, Curtis finally had lunch, did some tickets and finally finished off some project work.

Curtis got a beer and drank that whilst completing an off board and then walked home.

Kim’s Day

When Kim got in she started on a few emails before heading into a meeting to talk about catering options for a couple of upcoming functions. It was great to have clarification and fresh eyes!

The rest of the day was much of the same, Kim reconciled payments around other ad hoc tasks like getting the post, trying to return an item for someone and sending outgoing mail.
Kim then had a food delivery and ran that over to the meeting.

It must have been good because 1 by 1 everyone came and told Kim what an amazing meal it was!

Kim then spent about an hour and a half trying to send things via FedEx, it took 3 attempts online and 2 phone calls to get it sorted.

After this Kim continued with the reconciliation a d took a quick break to set up the friday afternoon drinks. Then after that Kim sent out an invite and some information in regards to some diwali celebrations.

Sniffles

We got back home and caught up on some YouTube videos before Kim left for training.

Kim’s Training

Kim’s training this evening went so well. She did 2 run throughs of her routine and was able to add a move back in after falling over in practice doing in.

Kim did not want to have a mental block for the move so she threw it in during the second run and stuck it which is amazing!

Kim also watched 2 other peoples routines and they were spectacular!

Curtis was playing games whilst Kim was out and was feeling bad for himself…He seems to have gotten more of a cold even though he thought he was getting better! He started to get a runny nose and more of a sore throat, unfortunately.

When Kim got back home, we watched a bit more TV and went to bed. We need to be up at a good time tomorrow!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work a little early, though he still wasn’t feeling great.

For most of the day, Curtis got some more project work done and is almost done with the preparations for it to begin properly next week.

Curtis had a few interesting tickets to help with throughout the day, which gave him a break from doing the same thing over and over again.

Curtis left with the feeling of achieving today, which is amazing.

On the way home, it was raining, and Curtis got absolutely drenched by a car that drove past him!

Kim’s Day

Kim had a class she wanted to make in the evening so she went in an hour early so she had time to leave an hour early. Before Kim got to work, she made her lunch and then put it back in the fridge and left. Not the smartest move ever.

When Kim got in she started by catching up on the late night emails she received the night before and sorted them out. She then designed and sent across for review 2 sets of business cards.

Mid morning there was an earthquake drill that was only meant to happen on a few floors.

This wasn’t ideal as we had a fair few meetings going on, but we just sent out a few messages and people calmed down.

Kim spent the rest of the day going through invoices, she sorted all the travel invoices and found the few that she saves at the end of the month and saved those too.

Kim then started the fun job of reconciliations and only made it a few rows in before getting dragged somewhere else.

The weekly pizza arrived so Kim set all of that up.

We have a biweekly food deliver for a team meeting, luckily our rep noticed that the order had been cancelled and realised before the order would have to be placed.

The company Kim works for has an initiative where you sign up for a coffee chat with someone.

Who ever wants to can put their name into a hat and then they are randomly matched up and you then go for a little informal chat with a random person in the company. Kim signed up for this and was paired up with a guy that sits just around the from her. They had a great little catch up in the kitchen and talked about their hobbies, previous work places and he explained what the company does to Kim as she isn’t entirely sure. She now has a slightly better understanding.

Kim and her colleague then went upstairs to the rooftop meeting room to clear away the days worth of lunch and snack rubbish as there was an all day meeting that had been on. Once this was done Kim headed home.

Sittin’ In A Car

Kim had a lot of training today, so she went to some and then briefly came back home. For her last training, Curtis had to go in the car with her with his hockey kit as we only have 1 car and Kim’s training time and Curtis’ hockey game time are too close together.

Curtis sat in the car whilst Kim was at training and once she was out, we drove to the rink for Curtis’ game.

Kim’s Training

Kims first class was open training so Kim worked on a combo that has been bothering her and also managed to fit it to the music a little better.

The 2nd class was an actual class where Kim was taught moves. It was the first time Kim attended this class at her usual location and she absolutely loved it!

The group were fun and the instructor was great too.

She then popped home before heading out again, this time Curtis came too! Kim wanted to try the routine fully in a place there is more space, luckily one of the studios is near where Curtis plays hockey, so she popped in for 30 minutes and ran through the routine twice! She now only has minor adjustments to make, but basically has a fully constructed routine at this point, which is a massive win.

Curtis’ team got their new jerseys, which are beautiful!

Curtis was still feeling a little sick, so didn’t play too well and was struggling to skate and breath!

Curtis got his first penalty, which was for roughing…it was quite fun though!

His team lost 3-1, but it was against the top placed team.

Place 72 – Day 164: Vancouver, BC – Going Home Sick

Curtis’ Day

Curtis seemed to wake up with a bit of a sore throat this morning which he assumes is from the fact that Kim has been battling with one for the last week or so.

Curtis got to work and had a 1 hour team training session which was actually very helpful.

After the meeting, Curtis completed his admin for the day, answered some questions regarding his project and had a few ticket related things to do.

For most of the rest of the day, other than a quick demo from his colleague, Curtis did some more project work and testing.

Curtis felt worse and worse as the day went on, so much so that at around 15:15, Curtis went home to work, so he didn’t spread his germs and also so he could relax a little.

After finishing an offboard Curtis needed to do, he watched hockey and had some tomato soup.

Kim’s Day

Kim started the morning by finishing the invite information from yesterday and sending that over to her colleague for review. She then had to revisit the email about Halloween too as the attachment didn’t work, so Kim collected the best Halloween puns she could to make the email a little more interesting than ‘here is the right attachment’.

The hotel that Kim Kim thought she had sorted out yesterday called and said that there was another issue so Kim fixed that too.

Kim then finally got around to uploading the monthly social talks for people to easily find them. Then after that she continued on her old Wiki project. She updated a forms page where she has now collated all of the forms that people might need when in the office and put them in one place.

This then had a knock on effect where Kim realised she had been putting off making a form for packages being sent out. Kim finally took some time in the afternoon to make a nice and new form that covers all the information she needs, but in a way that doesn’t look like too much hassle for the person sending the item.

Towards the end of the day Kim put some hooks in the meeting rooms to allow people to hang up loose wires. It makes the rooms look neater and causes less of a tripping hazard.

Training & The Apprentice

Kim went training in the evening and Curtis just drank plenty of water and tried to get better!

Kim got some small pizzas for dinner and then when she got home we watched The Apprentice!

Place 49 – Day 357: Auckland – A Sleep In, Another BBQ & A Random Sickness

We woke up at around 11:30, which was a lovely lay in!

We had some breakfast in bed, watching a few videos and delaying starting the day.

The weather was scorching today, so we opened all the windows to get a good breeze going.

We got some laundry done and then drove to the shop to get a few things for the week, as well as a coffee.

Once we got home, it was almost time for us to go out again! We had a small BBQ to go to at around 17:30, so we stopped to pickup Kelsey & Hugh, Kim’s work friend and her fiancé, and then drove to the BBQ at another work colleague’s apartment.

We had a few chats and then a great BBQ and listened to some tunes!

Curtis started to feel quite unwell, so we came home and relaxed for a bit before Kim went out to the elephant wrestler, which is a pub in Takapuna, where she met some other work friends to celebrate a birthday.

That was our Saturday…nothing crazy but still nice (minus Curtis feeling unwell!).
