Place 72 – Day 438: Vancouver, BC – Day Before New Job!

We woke up to a strange loud noise, which we think was actually just people moving things upstairs, but it was around the time we needed to get up anyway, so we got up and had some cinnamon buns for breakfast.

We slowly got ourselves ready and went out for a walk. We hadn’t planned to, but the weather looked really nice so we went anyway!

We got a coffee and walked along the seawall and to the beach.

We turned around at the end of the beach and walked back home.

Once we got home, we went back out to do our shopping.

We got that out of the way and once we got home we had yesterday’s leftovers for dinner. Kim made Curtis’ less sweet and much more spicy, which was delicious!

We watched Bake Off with dinner and some other TV after, as well as playing some games.

Kim starts her new job tomorrow and is mostly super excited, but also a little nervous.

Place 72 – Day 358: Vancouver, BC – Lost Lagoon

Lost Lagoon

We woke up at a good time today and had some breakfast.

We had a grilled cheese again and then got ready for the day.

We then went out to do our usual weekend walk on the seawall, along the beaches and across to Stanley Park.

There were far too many people outside today, so we had to keep dodging them, but once we got to Stanley Park, it was a little less populated.

We went to Lost Lagoon at Stanley Park which was a big lake and it was actually very nice and incredibly peaceful!

We walked around here for a while and then went to grab a drink from the pharmacy nearby.

We left there and walked back home, which took about 30 minutes.

Goodbye, Leafs

We got back home and Curtis watched the leafs game. This was the final game of the series, so the winner moves on.

Unfortunately, the Leafs lost 3-0, so that’s a short lived return of hockey for Curtis!

Home Pole Dancing

Kim did some pole dancing at home whilst Curtis watched hockey. She loves the fact she can do stuff at home and she had some success with it, too.

Gnocchi

We had gnocchi for dinner, which was just from a packet so nothing fancy, but Kim made a homemade sauce which was really good.

We watched some TV and played some games as usual for the evenings these days!

Birthday Chat

We had a chat with Curtis’ family as it is his mum’s birthday today!

We chatted for quite a while and then hung up and started our day.

Shopping

We went to get the shopping done and actually paid to park underground as we were getting a lot of heavy and bulky things, so it was easier to do it that way.

We got back home and decided to go out for a nice walk as the weather was beautiful!

Warm Sunny Walk

We walked down to the seawall and just kept walking! The sun was beating down and just beautiful!

We walked all the way around to English Bay Beach, but it got a little too busy, so we headed back home.

We got a Vietnamese coffee on the way home, because they’re delicious so we can’t say no!

Homemade Thai Curry

We got home and Kim ordered some things online and then she made a Thai curry!

The curry was delicious and Kim also made a ‘lazy egg’ with it, too, which was something we really liked in Thailand!

Place 72 – Day 86: Vancouver, BC – Long Walks, Granville Island & Fancy Dinner

Long Walks

We woke up fairly early, had breakfast and then did some chores around the apartment.

After we finished, we walked down to meet Linda at her hotel.

It was hot again today, but we decided to walk along the seawall. We walked all the way to the seawall from the hotel and then down to the seabus where we caught it to Graville Island.

Granville Island

When we got there, we scoped out a coffee place once we found one, all three of us got an iced latte.

We had a bit of a wander around but then wanted to get out of the crowds, so we continued around the seawall and towards our apartment.

We stopped in at our apartment to have a sit down and some water as well as to show Linda around.

We had only been walking around for about 1.5 hours in total, even though it felt like a lot more!

We relaxed here for a couple of hours but all started to fall asleep so thought it would be best if we went outside again.

We went for a walk down to the city, to the hotel Linda is staying in, where we had a dinner reservation.

Amazing Dinner

Kim had been to this restaurant with work before and knew it was tremendous so she recommended that we go.

We got there at 16:30 but our table was booked for 17:00. We were so hungry after all our walking, so we decided we would sit and have dinner then!

We got sat and got a cocktail each. Kim and Linda had a Piña Colada and Curtis had an Old fashioned.

We waited a little bit but then ordered our starters. We had chicken wings, amazing sourdough with butter and honey as well as some tempura salmon.

The salmon wasn’t great, but everything else was so good. (We forgot to get photos of that as we were so hungry!).

For mains, we got Korean chicken, a salad and mac & cheese. All of these were great, but the mac and cheese was phenomenal.

We had such a great night and whilst we were full, all three of us shared a dessert because it would be rude not to.

We got a chocolate mousse with lemon creme and some ice cream of some sort and it was incredible, but we are glad we only got the one!

We said goodbye to Linda as she leaves early tomorrow and we waddled home.

Place 72 – Day 43: Vancouver, BC – Kitsilano

Walk To Kits

We woke up and had a pains au chocolat each and some strawberries.

We ate this and then spoke with Kim’s family briefly as they were at Kim’s uncle’s wedding.

We then sat down to speak with Curtis’ family, but missed them so instead we left the house and walked to Kitsilano!

Kitsilano is a very trendy, hippie and beautiful neighbourhood in Vancouver. It took us roughly 45 minutes to walk from our home across to ‘Kits’.

The weather was beautiful, with the sun beating down on us.

The majority of the walk was along the seawall, so we got to see a lot of boats and we even walked through Granville island.

Coffee In Kits

We wanted to grab a coffee so we found a coffee shop called Bean Around The World. We believe this is a chain but it smelled delicious when we walked in and it was pretty well priced as well.

Curtis got a cappucino and Kim got a caramel macchiato. Both of our drinks were delicious!

Looking For Food

We thought we would look around for something to eat, so we went to the main area in Kitsilano to get some lunch.

Unfortunately, we were unable to find anything, so we settled for a wrap and KitKat from Whole Foods instead!

Kitsilano Beach

We walked to the beach which has mountain views and lots of volleyball courts! We sat and ate our lunch and then began the walk home by the side of the beach.

We walked all the way home from there which took about another 45 minutes and we were exhausted!

Shopping

We got back home and relaxed for a bit as our feet hurt.

We then went out to do our shop for the week and didn’t really spend that much!

We came back and Kim made a really good dinner which was marinated pork with noodles and vegetables.

We finished up with dinner and watched the first episode of the new season of Black Mirror, followed by some Lucifer, as well as some ice cream and then whiskey!

Place 72 – Day 41: Vancouver,BC – We Enjoy Our Jobs!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis arrived at work and had 2 people waiting for him before he could even turn on his laptop.

The first person had forgotten their laptop at home, so Curtis had to find a temporary replacement and set that up for them.

Curtis then had to sort out the second person who had some issues with their monitor not connecting to their laptop. When Curtis went to investigate, he realised that the cable connecting the two had slightly come out of the monitor, so when he plugged it back in, it worked. Nice and easy. This was all before 09:00!

Curtis had a really busy morning, but it was great! Lots of different things to do as well as some incidents Curtis was able to resolve.

The afternoon was much quieter so it was some regular tasks and onboarding that Curtis did to keep himself busy, before walking home.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim was so busy and she loved it.

Kim got into the office and started with a few of the receptionist tasks to start her day and then went and settled down in the HR area to practise a few more tasks there.

Just as she got comfortable Kim was invited out for a coffee and handover of some events stuff with two colleagues. So they went to a nearby coffee shop, grabbed a drink and pastry and ironed out some details. It was lovely to get out of the office and sit outside while still working!

When she got back Kim spent the morning between the 2 desks balancing HR back office stuff and front desk project stuff. Kim then attended a meeting for some more HR help and set up a few other meetings for the afternoon. A big part of the project Kim is working on takes place over the weekend so now is the time to get cracking!

Kim then treated herself to a whole 15 minute lunch break and spent it in the sun on the roof with some of her colleagues.

Kim was then back in the office and setting up for a meeting with people from our other offices. It was great to get there opinions on the project and try to answer any questions they may have.

Kim then had 15 minutes between that meeting and her next, which was back to HR for more training on the back office stuff. Kim had some guidance on one part and was then left to try one on her own! She only made 2 minor mistakes that were easily fixed, so it was a great success.

She went from that meeting straight into another meeting about the project! This was great as Kim and her counterpart in IT were really able to explain the project to people and the next steps we were taking.

After this meeting the IT person suggested that they sit down and finalise the details with the project for an hour or so! It’s really nice to have someone who actually knows about the project a lot more than Kim does!

By the time that was done Kim only had another 30 minutes left in the day! It just flew by! So she did the 3rd and final bit for HR and it went really well. Kim sent out one more email and finished at 5 on the dot.

Kim is really enjoying her new role, it has lots of challenges to pick up and great support from her teammates! She is feeling very happy and excited for the coming year!

Dog Park!

We met each other from work and walked home in the beautiful sunshine.

We got home and Kim made a delicious pork meal, with a creamy mushroom sauce, potato hasselback & balsamic vegetables.

Once we finished eating, we walked the other way around the seawall at the perfect time of day where the sun was going down, so it was very beauiful!

We got to the dog park and Kim went in to say “hi” to the dogs in there and then we walked back home to watch TV for the rest of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 39: Vancouver,BC – Banana Bread Competition & Pot Luck

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started the day with a coffee and apple juice after walking to work.

He looked into a possible setup for someone that wanted something a little specific and Curtis wasn’t even sure if it was possible!

Curtis helped with a few small issues and then he went to do some banana bread judging. Two colleagues had said they were each better at baking banana bread, so they went to war and each made one for everyone to test and vote on!

After lunch, Curtis did some more research for his project as well as had a phone call with a software company in relation to this project. They are also based in Vancouver and not far from Curtis’ office…And the guy was British.

Curtis installed some extra RAM in someone’s laptop and once that was done, he spent a bit of time seeing if he could develop a little something himself for the project, partially due to interest but also in case it would work for what he needs.

Kim’s Day

Kim got to work and got set up and spent the first bit of her day watching more training videos.

Then some information came in about some travel Kim was booking so she went back over to reception to get some help with that. That then spiraled into other mini training sessions.

It was then time to pack down guitar hero and put the kitchen back to normal.

Kim then went into a meeting to get a better understanding of what another string of her role would be. She also had a good chat with the lady she would be working closely with for it.

Then it was time to set up for the pot luck people set up to celebrate Eid. There was a wonderful spread and Kim provided some Brookies that went down well.

After stuffing her face with amazing food Kim went back to her desk to do a little more training. This then got a little tedious so kim decided to start setting up spreadsheets and other documents to get her started in her role. Things like template emails, lists of the more random items that get purchased on occasion and other stuff like that.

Then her computer was about to die so Kim and a colleague went about clearing the kitchen. All the food that was left had been polished off, so that made it much easier!

Seawall Walk

We both finished work and headed home. Once we got back, Kim headed back out briefly to pick something up whilst Curtis played some games.

When Kim returned, we went for a walk for about 20 minutes. We walked along the seawall, which is just outside our house, and along the private harbours and by the restaurants. This was a nice thing to do as the weather was very warm and the sun was going down, glistening off the water.

We had to fight through a horde of geese to get back home, but once we did we had dinner.

We ate the same as yesterday to finish it off.

We watched the Billions season finale and then an episode of Chernobyl.

Getting Ready

We were up by around 10:00 and had some cereal, chocolate milk & coffee for breakfast.

We got showered and ready to go and found the instructions on how to get to Stanley Park, which is where we wanted to visit today.

Stanley Park

We walked for about 25 minutes to get to Stanley Park. It was pretty much a directly straight walk again, which helped a lot.

We got to the park and it was pretty busy, but still very beautiful! It was cold outside but there was a good amount of sun which made it great weather.

We walked around the park for a bit and just chatted.

View Of The Park Lake

View From The Park

Some Totum Poles

It seems there were more totum poles which where actually very cool looking.

Seawall

We walked from the totum poles to the seawall. The seawall expands across most of the park and is a great walk. The sun was still beating down on us so we walked around for a bit longer and got all the way to the lighthouse at the end.

The Lighthouse

Walking Back

We made the loop around back to the entrance and walked back to the apartment.

We watched some TV and then Curtis watched hockey.

Shopping For Tops

Whilst Curtis watched hockey, Kim went for an expore around some shops to try and find some more winter/autumn adequate tops.

Kim found a whole shopping mall, so had a great time wondering around those for a while.

Kim came back, empty handed, but perfectly just as hockey finished!

Pho & Banh Mi

We smelled a Vietnamese place during the day which is right down the street from us, so we just had to go for dinner!

We went there and Curtis got a chicken pho whilst Kim had a banh mi.

All in all, it was ok, but a bit confusing and not too interesting, really. Nothing in comparison to the first film.
