Place 49 – Day 284: Auckland – Takapuna Beach Walk & Vietnamese Coffee

We woke up fairly early at around 09:00.

We had cereal for breakfast and watched a YouTube video.

After breakfast, Curtis watched the Leafs game and Kim chilled out.

After the Leafs game, we went out to Takapuna and went for a walk along the beach! The weather was absolutely beautiful.

Before we went to the beach, we went to a place called Nam Nam which is a Vietnamese street food place. We got a Vietnamese coffee and a Banh Mi each!

We ate our Banh Mi and drank our Vietnamese coffee and went to the beach.

There was a lot of dogs which was great for Kim. We walked up and down the beach and chatted for ages!

After the beach we went to the shop to get some food for tonight as well as the week.

After the shop, we went back home and relaxed for the evening.

We watched two episodes of a Swedish/British TV show, called Fallet, and then played a bit of fortnite which we haven’t done for a while!

After this, we had our lasagne we bought for dinner.

Post dinner, we watched No Offence (thanks Tom & Maggie for letting us know it’s out!) And then spoke to Kim’s family on FaceTime.

Curtis didn’t get his haircut today as he didn’t want to go somewhere that wasn’t his usual barber…That’s a next week job.

Place 49 – Day 281: Auckland- Workout Action Shots

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis didn’t have to visit a client today, which was good!

Curtis got to work really early. He hit every light perfectly so didn’t have to queue anywhere!

Curtis finally had some work to do today and it felt good to be busy as the day went fast.

Both of us;

Once Kim got home, we went to the gym.

The gym wasn’t too busy so we could actually use what we wanted to use.

We started on the crosstrainer and then made our way to other machines.

We spent a while on leg machines and then moved to arm/upper body machines.

After these, we did some sit ups, planking before we decided we were hungry and tired and went back home.

Kim made fajitas for dinner which were stunning as ever.

We watched videos and then went to sleep! Tomorrow is Friday!

Place 49 – Day 279: Auckland – A McLaren?

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis had to contend with some traffic on the way to work but once he got there he made a coffee and got to it.

He had some admin to do for the morning as well as replying to emails.

At 09:00, Curtis left to go to a client to pickup a laptop. During the 6 minute drive, Curtis drove past the Lamborghini, McLaren, Porsche, Bentley & Aston Martin garages!

Curtis got to the client and had to wait briefly as the person he needed to speak to wasn’t quite there yet. Curtis eventually got the laptop and made his way back to the office.

On the way back, Curtis saw the McLaren showroom glass sliding doors open and a brand new McLaren came rolling out onto the road. He snapped a photo, of course.

Mclaren

Curtis got back to the office and for the rest of the day he setup the laptop he collected, but not without some challenges!

Curtis needs to drop that off tomorrow, which he is doing so in the morning.

Both of us;

We both eventually got home after having to contend with evening traffic too!

Once the traffic died down, we drove to Takapuna and got some items for dinner.

Kim made a sweet chilli pork stir fry which was great!

We chilled for the evening and got incredibly tired so decided it was time to sleep.

Place 49 – Day 265: Auckland – Piha Beach (Again) & Sky Tower Dinner

Wee both woke up at 07:30 and Kim went to work. Curtis got up and had breakfast whilst waiting for his family to arrive.

Once his family arrived, Curtis got in the car and they were off for the day.

The plan for today was to go to Piha beach. This is the black beach that we have been to previously, but we wanted to show the family.

Once they got to the beach, it was pretty windy but there wasn’t really anyone there, which made for a good walk.

It was windy enough that the sand was being kicked up from the beach, which had an awesome affect!

They walked around the beach for a while and then went to look at the waves that Curtis knew crashed onto the rocks nearby.

After the beach, they went to the highest cafe in Auckland, which we had been to previously.

Curtis had the Moroccan Lamb Sandwich which was phenomenal!

They left the cafe and drove to Kim’s work to get the keys for Curtis’car from her and then Curtis was dropped off at the car.

Curtis drove home to get some evening clothes and then drove to the rental house.

At 16:20, Curtis drove to the garage that Kim’s car was in to pickup the keys and pay for required repairs. He then got some fuel and drove to pick Kim up from work.

After this, we can home and chilled for a moment before driving down to the sky tower in the city.

We first went to the observation deck from which we got a 360° view of the city.

After here, we went down a level to the cafe and had a drink whilst we waited.

We finished our drinks and went in the lift to the floor above where we were booked to have dinner, on a revolving floor! This allowed us to see the whole city at night which was beautiful.

The food was absolutely divine! For starter, we all shared some Kumara bread and had our own starters also. Curtis had King Prawns and Kim had duck breast.

Shortly after, it was the main! Curtis had venison and Kim had steak.

The venison was excellent and the steak was just OK.

For dessert, Curtis had a coffee cake and Kim had a chocolate orange dessert.

The food was excellent and the company even better!

Curtis’ family leave tomorrow evening, so it’s the last day!

Place 58 – Day 2: Kaikoura – Whale Watching, Hot Tub & Family Games Night!

We woke up a bit later, at 08:30, and got showered. We had very nice showers here again, which was a win!

Lisa went to the bakery to get some breakfast. This was an assortment of pastries.

From this point, we walked down to the whale watching building. Next to this, there was a black stony beach and a wonderful view of the mountains. We then went inside for our briefing.

After the briefing, we went into a bus to take us to the bay where the boat was.

We were then on the boat for 2.5 hours! We saw a lot of Albatross, including the biggest one in the world, the wandering Albatross. As well as this, we got to see the mountains from the sea, which were stunning.

There were many other birds that we saw, too. We stopped moving a few times so the crew could track the whales’ sonar, which we were unlucky with the first few times.

After a while, they finally heard the sonar of a whale and we raced to where it should be and, sure enough, it was right there, just chilling on the top of the water. We were then told that it was about to dive back down and we got some great photos and videos!

We then made our way back to land and got on the bus back to the whale watching building.

From here, Kim went off with Lisa and the kids to get food whilst Curtis and Gareth went to get the campervan looked at as there were some warning lights appearing.

Kim, the kids and Lisa were unable to find any food and met Curtis and Gareth at the garage before going to Subway for lunch.

After lunch, we went back to the garage and found out that the campervan was all good so didn’t have to worry about that at all. We then went to the shop to get dinner supplies.

We got back to the campsite and fancied a dip in the hottub, so we did that for a couple of hours, though it was incredibly hot!

We got out and had a shower and then it was time for dinner.

We had a BBQ for dinner, though it was too cold to sit outside so we went inside and had a lovely meal!

After this, we went to the onsite games room and all had an amazing time playing the games there. There was table tennis, fußball, pool & air hockey. We were here for ages and then had to head to bed at 22:00!

Tomorrow is another driving day but not too long, which is a positive.

Place 49 – Day 231: Auckland – Girls Pamper Day

We woke up at around 08:00 and Curtis went out to get breakfast. He drove down to McDonald’s which was very busy! There was also a lot of fog so it meant driving a little slower.

Whilst Curtis got breakfast, Kim got showered and ready for the day.

We ate our breakfast and watched some YouTube videos and then Kim headed out for the day.

Curtis did nothing of interest for the rest of the day!

Kim’s Day;

When Tabitha arrives Kim met her outside and they headed into the city to celebrate her birthday!

As it was 9:30 when they arrived in the city centre parking was a breeze so they were about half an hour ahead of schedule, so popped into a cafe for a coffee.

At about 9:45 Tabitha and Kim walked the small distance to get to the spa where they had a two hour relaxation package booked in – a massage with a body scrub, facial and a foot spa treatment.

Massage_Beds_Auckland

The massage was amazing and relaxing. Tabitha went for a combination facial and Kim went for the hydration facial. They lady was very informative and taught Kim loads about her skin and what she is doing wrong with it! After this Tabitha and Kim sat in massage chairs while they had the foot spa, it was so lovely, even though Tabitha’s massage chair didn’t work.

At the end of it all Kim’s massage therapist had another chat about products, routines and stuff, she was so lovely. We then had a chat with her about her travels, as she is French. It was a funny moment when she realised Kim was English because she noticed that she echoing understand her better than she could the Kiwi accent!

We said goodbye / au revior to everyone and headed back to the car. On the way we met up with another one of Tabitha’s friends and we all then drove back to the North Shore to get our nails done.

The three girls deliberated for a while on what colour to pick and Kim even got a stern ‘hurry up’ from one of the nail artists!

After their nails were done the girls all fancied some lunch and Kim had a great idea to had to the cat cafe, so they all jumped in the car and headed over there.

The_Cat_Lounge_Cafe_Auckland

Wife_With_Cat_Auckland_Kim

It was so much fun to spend about 40 minutes playing with all the cats, that was until one of them decided to relive themselves on our bags! We took that as our hint to leave.

With so much cuteness in one room we forgot to eat and Tabitha’s friend had to get to the Esplanade to start her shift so thy all hopped back in the car and took the slow road into Devonport.

It was a little odd heading that way again as Kim left the Esplanade nearly 3 months ago! Doesn’t time fly??
They stopped at a local cafe when they arrived in Devonport for ‘lunch’, it was 4pm! No wonder everyone was so hungry!

Each girl grabbed a savoury, sweet and a drink item.

The portions were massive and they all needed up taking takeaway containers! Which is good for Curtis who loves curly fries and brownies!
Tabitha and Kim had a little walk around the town and then headed home.

Curly_Fries_Brownie_Lunch_Auckland

It was such a brilliant day celebrating a wonderful persons birthday!

Both of us;

When Kim got home, we relaxed for a while and then Curtis had an omelette as dinner along with leftover curly fries from Kim’s dinner.

We then watched a couple of episodes of Modus with lemon cupcakes with vanilla sauce!

Place 49 – Day 225: Auckland – Piha Beach

We woke up naturally at about 08:00 but didn’t want to get out of bed so we stayed in bed until 09:30.

We wanted to do something fun today, so getting up early was a good idea!

We got out of bed then decided we didn’t want to start the day just yet.. So we played a little bit of Fortnite.

We eventually had breakfast, nothing crazy just a couple of crumpets each, then started to get ready to go out.

We left the house around 12:00 and drove for an hour west to get to Piha Beach. The was a really beautiful scenic drive!

The beach is a black sand beach, which is caused by volcanic rock!

There were huge rocks around also, which made for some excellent photos!

We wandered around the beach and the day was perfect for it! Not too hot but by no means cold.

Kim noticed that one of the rocks (which was a mini-mountain really!) had stairs going up it. The only problem was that we couldn’t get across to it because there was water in the way. The plan was to find a way to drive to that side and explore.

The rock in question

We went for a walk down to the other side of the beach before we left to find out way across.

We got to the other side and climbed over some rocks to another small beach. On this beach we unfortunately saw a deal seal and a dead (big) bird of some sort! This was clearly an unlucky beach…around the corner from that, there was a big set of rocks which the waves crashed off of and the waves went incredibly high!

We then left here and went to find a way up to the other rock.

We drove down the road for a little bit and found a car park to park in to get there.

We had to walk for a bit and then got to the rock. It turns out that the rock is called ‘lion rock’!

We walked up it to the top (at least the top of where you are allowed to go) and got some photos. We also sat for a bit because it was tiring!

The view

We then made our way back down and we were getting increasingly hungry on the way back do decided it was lunch time.

We drove to a cafe we saw on the way to the beach which was called Elevation. This is the highest cafe in Auckland.

The food was great but the service wasn’t too good, unfortunately.

Curtis had eggs benedict and Kim had a cheesesteak sandwich!

After this we drove home and did nothing special for the rest of the night. We just watched some TV and had a quick dinner of homemade Chinese chicken with rice.
