Place 70 – Day 36: Victoria, BC – Afternoon Tea & Goodbyes!

Packing Up

We got ourselves ready in the morning, had some breakfast, and got packed up and ready to go.

We changed the bed sheets and tidied up, as well as packed all of our stuff away.

Afternoon Tea

We took Linda for afternoon tea at 11:45.

The place seemed alright, but everything was just okay, which was pretty disappointing.

We headed back to Linda’s and hung out with her for a bit more before we had to leave and say goodbye until next time!

Leaving Victoria

We drove up to get our car cleaned at the car wash that we had bought a ticket for before but didn’t get to use on Wednesday.

We were waiting and a woman managed to make her car battery die right at the entrance to the car wash, so it took quite a while to actually get our car washed, so it was good that we left at such a good time!

We left the car wash after it was done and went to the supermarket and picked up a salad to eat on the boat.

We got onto the boat and got a pretty good spot! Masks are now mandatory again indoors, which includes the ferry, which is great!

We ate our salad and then we just relaxed. We were told there were whales, but we didn’t see them when we looked!

We got back to Vancouver and drove home, which took less time than expected.

We got back home and just did very little. Kim had a nice bath with bath salts she bought at her massage and we just relaxed.

Back to work tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 992: Vancouver, BC – More Office Setup & Meteor Shower!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis walked down to the office in the morning and got right into more office setup.

He and his colleague got all desks setup with montor arms (other than the ones that couldn’t be done as there were none left). Also, about 95% of desks now have monitors, other than the few that don’t due to running out of them.

Curtis spent most of the day doing this, as well as figuring out a few things he needed to figure out with his colleague about how desks will be setup. They got some permanent desks setup for people coming to the office full time, and then he sorted out some cables again and figured out which to keep and which to throw away.

Curtis walked back home in time to walk to get the car with Kim.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a really nice day today. It started with a 1-1 with a new employee and then a really interesting and useful chat with her manager and someone from the recruitment firm they work with. They caught each other up on work and bounced ideas off each other, it was great!

She then joined the weekly department check in and then finished a laptop at the same time. Then it was time for the regular weekly recruitment meeting. Kim also stole some time towards the end to discuss another role once everyone else has left.

In the afternoon Kim had a 1-1 with a manager to discuss a few of their new starters and how they are doing. Then she tried sorting out some charges from Apple, but had no luck!

She finished her day with a call with a teammate to see how they are doing.

Once she got back Kim managed to get a few quick wins done by sending emails and sending out an updated party invite. She then dropped some letters off to her colleague and stayed to play with the kittens.

Evening

We walked down to the garage to get the car, getting a coffee on the way, and once we picked that up we headed to the store to get something for dinner.

We got home and Kim did a little bit of work before going out to see a friend for a little bit.

We went to the gym at 21:00 for an hour which felt really good, and then when we got back up to the apartment, we had chicken ceasar salad for dinner and then we hung out and watched a bit of TV.

Kim went out at 23:00 to see her friend and drove out to a beach to look at the meteor shower that was happening today! She even managed to see a couple!

Kim headed home around 1:15am and then we went right to bed, after a little McDonald’s!

Place 72 – Day 934: Vancouver, BC – Waiting All Alone

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a few things to get done in the morning and then had a Norwegian lesson. It took him some time to get his brain in Norwegian mode, but once he got going he had a great conversation.

Curtis did some tickets and then spent 3 hours on a project. He mostly just had to look at some groups and decide if they are needed anymore and if not, delete them. This was tedious but good work that needed to be done!

There were more tickets in the afternoon to keep him busy and then all of a sudden, the work day was over.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with an interview! It was so great to meet another new face. She then had a quick review with the hiring manager and a quick catch up too which was lovely!

She then had a quick beginning of day chat with a new teammate before giving an overview update to the company. She had a quick call after the meeting with a colleague she hasn’t spoken to in weeks, which was wonderful!

She then spent some time getting small wins done before joining the finance meeting for updates and approvals. She had a quick break before then having a sit down with her teammate to build a game plan for ordering things, which was awesome!

Kim then joined a meeting but the other person didn’t turn up! Kim waited for her for a while as this person is usually super on time so Kim figured they had got completely absorbed in their task and as they have a lot going on with deadlines just around the corner Kim wanted to just leave them to it. So rescheduled the meeting for later in the week and for on with more admin.

Kim then joined a 3 month check in with a new starter. She got some fantastic feedback and some great suggestions! She then got a little admin done before joining a hiring forecasting meeting. She then finished the day with ordering, getting small admin wins done and a quick meeting with her teammate.

Evening

We had a Mexican style chicken salad for dinner and then Kim had a bit of work to do still so she did that and then we went for a nice evening walk.

We got back home and watched some TV.

Kim is out for most of the day tomorrow and Curtis had a workshop in the afternoon, so we’re both busy!

Place 72 – Day 926: Vancouver, BC – Getting More Projects!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started the day with some admin and then there were a lot of tickets, as there were throughout the whole day.

There was the weekly team meeting at 10:30 and after that it was right back to tickets!

In the afternoon, Curtis’ team had a meeting to allocate projects out. Curtis got himself some more projects which he was happy with! So more exciting work now.

Curtis did more tickets in the late afternoon and then he was done with work.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a long day that was balanced between meetings and lots of admin. She started the day be getting a few quick wins done and help support people. She then had a one week check in with a new starter before joining a new software demo shortly after.

In the afternoon Kim chaired the team meeting before heading into two interviews and their reviews. To finish the day Kim had a check in with a new teammate to see how their day went and answer any questions they may have. She then had another chat with a someone to discuss hiring and a few other things. She then finished her day by getting a fair amount of admin done.

Evening

Curtis made a balsamic salad for dinner and we ate that and then went out for a walk. It was a little colder than expected, so we headed home at a decent time.

We got back and Kim had a little more work to do, so she did that fairly quick and then we watched some TV together.

Place 72 – Day 893: Vancouver, BC – Back To Evening Walks

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had an orientation planned for 09:00 but the person didn’t know about it so didn’t show up until 09:20.

Curtis got that orientation completed and then had a team meeting, followed by a meeting to discuss a new project and get that project started.

After that meeting was done, Curtis wrote out the project which led perfectly to lunch time.

After lunch, Curtis had a meeting with Microsoft to scope out a software rollout project with them and that has been scheduled in for next week!

Once that meeting was done, there was another one right after with his team to just talk about random things.

The remainder afternoon was then filled with tickets and he had to help someone urgently get something working that seemed that it should have no issues. He was actually able to figure it out with some help from a colleague, but it was a strange one for sure.

Kim’s Day

Today is Kim’s most busy day of the week. For the rest of the week Kim will be resting more. To start her day Kim joined an interview and then the quick chat after. She then joined a recruitment call to discuss an upcoming role.

After a little break Kim had another interview and review after. She then joined a colleague in a review of the candidate pipeline before she joined a meeting to discuss a couple of interviews that took place with the exec team for the day. She then went to join the pipeline review again, but then another interview finished so she reviewed that one with two other people and made a plan on next steps for a few candidates and roles.

Evening

We had leftover salad from yesterday for dinner and then we took out our recycling.

After the recycling was dealt with, we went out for a nice evening walk again.

We stopped off at the liquor store to get some drinks, seen as we were out, but really it was a nice walk in some lovely evening weather.

We got back home and relaxed, watching some TV and decompressing for the day.

Place 72 – Day 892: Vancouver, BC – Ooo, New Hair!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a pretty quiet day overall, mostly just dealing with tickets and a few messages from people.

He did have a meeting with his manager to go over a new setup and process for onboards, which was very productive.

Once that was done, it was basically lunch time and then after lunch it was more tickets and a little bit of admin.

Overall it was a pretty quiet day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a lazy morning and then popped out to get her hair cut! She also picked up some more hair care products while she was there and popped to homesense on the way home to pick up a few more things to help organise the kitchen.

Once she was home Kim relaxed for a bit before joining a quick meeting to catch her manager up on a few things. She then had lunch before joining a post interview chat.

Kim went from that meeting into an interview. After the review of the interview she joined couple of other hiring managers to review candidates in the pipeline.

Evening

We had some nice Mexican chicken salad for dinner and then we relaxed for the evening.

Place 72 – Day 879: Vancouver, BC – Homemade Espresso Is Great!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was very excited to make a coffee this morning! Once he was ready to start the day, he made a coffee right away. It took him a second to figure everything out, but he then made one for the first time.

The coffee was alright, but he had some tweaks to do to get it perfected, but that’s part of the fun!

He then got right into the swing of the day. He had a couple of meetings in the morning and then he had a lot of tickets, admin and a few other things to get done in the morning.

Curtis was able to get another couple of people helped with their computer setups, which took a while but there are only a few left now!

Curtis’ second coffee was much better and he really enjoys making them.

In the afternoon, Curtis had some project work to get done and also a bit of security work to do due to a notice he received, but it was interesting.

Kim’s Day

To start her day Kim reviewed candidates with her teammate to prepare for a recruitment meeting just after. The meeting went so well and Kim got some great direction for the next steps with a few positions.

Kim then hosted a meeting and had a quick chat after to discuss what happens next and review how it went. She was then late to a team meeting that went really well. She then had a quick call with a new hire who will be joining the company in a few months.

In the afternoon Kim had another interview and then a great post interview discussion. She set up some time with the hiring managers to review all the candidates for the open positions tomorrow evening. It will be great to take a look at applicants and make notes.

She then popped out to run a few errands in the late afternoon. It was great to get out and get things done that she has been meaning to do for a while now!

Evening

Once Kim got back home, she made a chickpea salad, which we had from Hello Fresh before and kept the recipe!

We devoured the dinner and then Kim did a bit more work as she had more to do but didn’t plan to be our for so long earlier. Curtis played some games whilst Kim worked and then we hung out and watched some TV.

Place 72 – Day 877: Vancouver, BC – Only Salads Now

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had to continue with some work from last week and that was very puzzling and took him and a colleague a lot of the day to figure out but they got there in the end.

Along with that, Curtis also had a team meeting and did some tickets, as well as setting up accounts for new hire.

All in all, a very busy day that actually ended a little late for Curtis, which hasn’t happened in a while!

After work, he played some games and got some things done around the apartment.

Kim’s Day

Kim started the day with a little admin to prepare for the week before having a team meeting. Everyone gave updated and then Kim worked with a colleague to set a few benefits things up. She then had a little break where she added more information and options to the HR system.

Just after midday Kim joined a benefits info session and then went over a software with IT. Kim then joined an interview and had a quick chat after to discuss the candidate and next steps.

She ended the day with another mini team meeting to discuss a software and how we will implement it.

Evening

Kim had an appointment in the evening and after Kim had her appointment, she made a really nice chicken Santa Fe salad which was really liked. It’s back to salad time now, as it’s getting warmer outside. Delicious, healthy and easy!

We relaxed together and watched some TV, both of us had busy days and we enjoyed chilling together.

Place 72 – Day 579: Vancouver, BC – Technology Is Annoying, Sometimes!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a team meeting at 10:30, but before that he had a lot of tickets and emails from people.

After the successful team meeting, Curtis created accounts and setup other things for a new onboard and then had some lunch.

After lunch, there were many more tickets to get done and that took Curtis nicely to the end of the day.

After work, Curtis’ phone was being a pain and he tried everything to get it working but just couldn’t get it to work properly.

Eventually, he was able to ask on a forum and they were able to help him get it working, which was a relief.

Kim’s Day

To get ready for this week Kim took some time to finalise some meetings and made a few plans. She then joined the team meeting to discuss the work that is going on over the next couple of weeks and the projects that she is handing over to her teammates. This meeting went on for an extra hour, which was a surprise, but a lot of good plans came out of it, which was wonderful!

In the early afternoon Kim had a chat with a couple of people to discuss how the interview they were all attending. Then they all went into the interview and Kim took notes!

Once Kim was back from lunch she started getting a few things done and then had a call with her manager, which ended up being a call with the whole executive team and then they all joined another surprise call to go over a project! It was a really interesting afternoon!

For the late afternoon Kim worked on contracts!

Evening

Kim made chicken burgers, that she made before from scratch, and they were just as good as they were last time!

We ate that and then chilled out watching TV for the evening.

Place 72 – Day 573: Vancouver, BC – More Courier Woes!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had some tickets and other work to get done in the morning, including some admin for someone going on parental leave.

Once he did that he had his Norwegian lesson, which seems to go better and better each time!

Curtis was meant to have a meeting in the afternoon but that got cancelled, so Curtis got a lot of tickets done which was great! A very productive day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a day full of meetings today! She started off with some admin and getting things set up for the next few weeks before joining and presenting in the weekly meeting.

She then facilitated a project meeting, it was so productive and interesting. Kim then joined a call to discuss potentially working with a vendor in regards to training. That meeting also went well and Kim is excited to see what the next steps are.

In the afternoon Kim hosted a procurement meeting to discuss how the process should work and then Kim joined a meeting to go over how an interview went during the day.

She finished the day by calling FedEx to get an update in regards to a delivery. It wasn’t great news and Kim found out the delivery would be attempted again the following day.

Kim then did a little more admin and ticked a few things off of her list.

Evening

Kim popped out to get a few things from the shop for dinner and we had a Santa Fe salad for dinner with spicy chicken which was excellent!

We played games and watched TV for the rest of the evening. The days seem so long now that daylight savings is in effect.
