Place 72 – Day 460: Vancouver, BC – Where Did The Time Go?

Curtis’ Day

Curtis woke up and his ear was still blocked, so that wasn’t ideal!

Curtis had a meeting in the morning with an external company and someone from his company to try and fix an issue, which they got fixed!

Once he did that, Curtis had a team meeting for about an hour and then jumped into a call with someone to look at an issue they were getting.

Once that was done, Curtis did a bit of work and then had some lunch.

The afternoon was little quieter, but he did get some spam emails blocked and reported and did some tickets and some admin.

Kim’s Day

Kim drew up an email and sent it out to everyone in regards to a charity donation. The plan initially was to have people drop things off in the office and then Kim would take it and do one big donation to a charity on behalf of the company. As that is looking less possible Kim found addresses, times and information for needed items for people to make their own donations.

For some of the morning Kim also worked on the onboarding process. She wrote notes of things she needs more information on and who should be allocated items for new starters.

Around midday Kim worked on moving a few recurring meetings around. She moved the weekly HR meeting forward by half and hour to be able to move the social time to 1pm so more people can join.

In the afternoon Kim put together some information on the provincial nomination process for her company so they know what the next steps are and also have an idea of what they need to do.

Towards the end of the day Kim received new information to go over for the facilities project. So she started going through and adding more notes. Then at 430 Kim had a call she went through each line of the spreadsheet with the person who is helping and sent it over.

After the call Kim made a to do list and some notes for tomorrow and the rest of the week.

Evening

We had leftovers from yesterday’s roast dinner and watched some TV and played some games as usual.

We started watching Alex Rider on Prime Video because the advert looked quite good and it’s based on some books that Curtis read when he was younger.

The time flew today! We both noticed multiple times that the time had just disappeared throughout the day.

Place 72 – Day 459: Vancouver, BC – What’s Going On EAR Then?

We woke up at a slightly better time today and had some crepes for breakfast.

We slowly got ready for the day and then Kim did a bit of work and some PR related things. She had to do the work as it relates to tomorrow, so it needs to be done before the day begins.

Once that was done, we went out to get some booze and then a coffee after.

We also got some ear solution as Curtis currently has a blocked ear, meaning he can’t really hear out of it, which is a concern! We’re trying the solution and if that doesn’t work, he’ll head to the doctor.

We got home and played some games and did Curtis’ ear solution, which didn’t seem to do anything just yet.

After that, Kim made a really tasty roast dinner!

We watched some TV for the rest of the evening.

Shopping

We got up and had breakfast, followed by getting ready shortly after. We went out to go to a couple of shops right after we got ready. We walked up to Winners first, but that was closed, so we went to the supermarket and spent quite a bit of money but got a lot of things, which was good.We left the supermarket and then went to Canadian Tire to find some lightbulbs, a stud finder & some goals for our mini sticks setup!

Building The Goals

Kim got home and used the stud finder as well as looking online to see if she can get a pole for home, and Curtis spent time building the two goals for mini sticks. We’ve now really upgraded our mini sticks setup!

Place 72 – Day 182: Vancouver, BC – Chore Day Off

Sleep!

We slept for a bit more then we have been this morning, which was amazing!

We had a quick breakfast, watched a YouTube video or two and then got ready for the day.

Coffee & Shopping

We went up to Starbucks for a coffee as Kim really liked the peppermint mocha, so Curtis got a flat white to have, too.

We went for a shop and got a lot of vegetables to roast for dinner.

Chores

We came back home after shopping and had a lot to do!

We took all of the rubbish and recycling out and then Kim cleaned the living room and kitchen whilst Curtis cleaned the bathroom.

We cleaned the bedroom together, as well as did some laundry.

Big Roasted Vegetable Dinner

Kim slaved over dinner for a few hours, roasting vegetables, making Yorkshire puddings and cauliflower cheese.

The dinner was excellent and great to set us up for going back to work.

We watched a couple of TV shows and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 100: Vancouver, BC – Car Is Insured & Our Plans Changed

Winter Tyres

The person we bought the car from was coming in the morning to deliver both our winter tyres and a forgotten piece of paper we need.

The lady arrived at 10:00 and got her to drive into our guest parking so we could easily load the tyres into the storage area.

The lady unfortuantely forgot the paper again, but urgently needed it, so she drove back home and got it for us.

Whilst we waited for her to come back, we got showered and then spoke with Kim’s family.

Insurance

We went to go and get our license plates from a place nearby, but when we arrived, there was a note saying they would be 10 minutes.

After a 20 minute wait, the man arrived and was actually quite rude.

We sat down with him but then found out, not what others had told us, that we cannot get the plates until we insure the car.

To do this, we wanted to pay on our English card, so we had to go back home and get that.

Eventually, we got back there and got it done and then we were able to get insured and get our plates!

Once we got home, we installed the plates onto our car and we are now able to drive it, if we wish.

Change of plans

We then had no plans as the plans we did have fell through with the other party, so we didn’t know what to do! We didn’t end up getting everything finished until around 15:00 anyway, so when we got home we went to the shop to get our weekly shop done.

When we got back, we ate some pain au chocolat as we were so hungry!

Roast (Vegetables) Dinner

Kim made an incredible dinner, which was just a roast dinner but with no meat, but it was still pretty tasty. We had perfect yorkshire puddings and crispy potatoes, too!

We watched some TV and then went to bed fairly early. We have a busy week this week.

Place 49 – Day 375: Auckland – Boxing Day Long Walk, Suncream & A Film

We had bacon, eggs, sausages, beans and toast for breakfast this morning, which was the perfect start to the day.

Shortly after breakfast, we all had showers, washed up and went out.

We began with a trip to Glenfield Mall to visit our favourite coffee shop and grab a coffee and some peppermint slices.

After chilling with our coffee, we walked around the mall and showed Kim’s parents the ‘sights’. We then got back in the car and drove to Takapuna for a beach walk.

We walked down Takapuna beach and then back again, which took some time but the sun was beating down and it was great to be able to experience it and show Kim’s parents some good weather in Auckland!

View of Rangitoto Island from the Beach

After Takapuna beach, Kim had the idea to take the walk to Milford beach, which was about a 40 minute walk away, across rocks and sand.

We had fun on this walk and it wasn’t too treacherous.

Once we got to Milford, we walked along the beach there for a bit and then went back up and to the supermarket. At the shop, we got some ice creams and a drink, which we earned from our long walk!

After, we began another long walk back to the car, which was about another 40/45 minutes in the hot sun.

We went from here to Wairau to buy cinema tickets for later on.

We got back home and were all exhausted, but it was great to get outside!

We heated up the Christmas day leftovers and ate those…There was a lot of food left, but we ate it all!

We relaxed for an hour or so and then got back in the car to drive back to Wairau to watch Holmes & Watson.

The cinema was almost empty! We watched the film and it was very silly but also very funny! Curtis gave it a 7.5/10 and Kim gives it 8/10.

We got back home and it was around 23:00! We have all noticed we have been burned by the sun a bit, too, which is bad!

Place 49 – Day 374: Auckland – Christmas Day 2018

We were up at a decent time this morning and it was time for Christmas!

The weather was terrible, as ever, on Christmas day in Auckland.

Kim made some bacon and egg sandwiches for breakfast.

Shortly after breakfast, once we opened some presents and got ready, we attempted to go for a walk on Takapuna beach as it had stopped raining. Unfortunately, it rained when we got in the car and, when we say rained, we mean it bucketed down for a while, so we turned around and came back home.

We all got into comfy clothes and watched the July 22 film, about the Utøya & Oslo attacks in 2011. A very good film, actually, though not the most uplifiting of films!

After this, Kim began working away on our Christmas dinner. This took a couple of hours, but was well worth the wait. We had roast potatoes, roast sweet potato, mashed potato & sweet potato mash, beetroot, asparagus, potato gratin, cauliflower cheese, yorkshire puddings, stuffing, carrots, mushrooms and gravy.

After dinner, with our full bellies, we watched the film Elf which was a great throwback!

At 22:00, we spoke with Curtis’ family for a catch up, followed by Kim’s sister Abbie.

We then all went to bed as we’ve done nothing today so we’re very tired.

Place 49 – Day 331: Auckland – Major Incident

Curtis’ Day;

The traffic was really good for a Monday, due to the teachers striking.

Curtis saw a few emails from the weelend with the same issue that some people were experiencing last week. This indicated that something more serious was happening.

Due to this, Curtis coordinated with his team to figure out a solution, which they still don’t have!

Curtis had a few other things to do, but most of the day was fairly quiet, especially compared to last week.

Curtis did some data work which wasn’t interesting, but was something to do!

The traffic on the way home was good too, so Curtis got home at a good time.

Both of us;

The weather was absolutely perfect today, so when Kim got home we went for a walk around the park.

After that, we had leftovers from last night’s roast and then watched some TV shows.

Other than that, we basically did nothing all evening, which was perfect!

Place 49 – Day 330: Auckland – Ambury Regional Park

We woke up at 10:30 and Kim made some omelettes whilst Curtis made the coffee!

Post breakfast, we got ready and went out for a drive to Ambury Regional Park. This park is a farm which you can just walk around and say hi to all the animals.

When we first got there, we were a little confused as there were no signs saying where to go and where we can go, but we just figured it out.

The first animal we came across was a calf!

After Kim had some cuddles with the calf, we moved onto the goats. Most of the weren’t interested, but one fluffy one with horns was happy to sit there and get a pet or two!

We saw a few sheep but they were a bit scared so we didn’t stick around them too much.

Next to the sheep was a very large horse, so we said hello to that for a while!

After we saw the horse, we attempted to go into the sheep again but they were not interested…even one of them gave us the evils so it was time to leave!

It started to rain, so we drove home.

Once we got home, Curtis watched hockey and Kim went to the shop to get stuff for dinner.

We invited Danielle and Josh for a roast, so Kim made the roast of dreams!

We had all kinds of vegetables, a huge chicken breast each and yorkshire puddings.

Danielle and Josh bought apple crumble for dessert with some salted caramel ice cream and strawberries.

It was great to catch up with Dannielle and Josh again.

Back to work tomorrow…but one week closer to finishing work!
