Place 72 – Day 900: Vancouver, BC – 2 Years In Vancouver!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis finally managed to get the project from yesterday sorted! It took most of the day, but he did eventually get it sorted, which he was pleased about. He learned a lot, too.

Curtis had a couple of team meetings throughout the day, too, which were not particularly interesting but needed.

After lunch, and after Curtis had finished the project, he did some training he needed to do to get ready for his two long days ahead! He has 7 hours of straight meetings tomorrow and Friday with Microsoft. These are workshops and should be good, but it’ll be a busy one!

Curtis watched hockey after work whilst Kim had a couple of work meetings.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a long but interesting day! She started off by having to pop out and do a pick up / drop off of something, it was lovely to go for a bit of a drive.

Once she got home Kim got a little admin done before hosting a team meeting and then having a quick chat with a teammate to catch up on meetings she missed.

After the social call and lunch Kim had a quick HR meeting with a couple of the executive team members before having a chat with a teammate about projects going on.

Kim then joined an interview and the post interview chat which turned into planning time and getting a few other things organised, it was great!

In the evening Kim has a mix of short quick meetings, longer impromptu meetings and a little mentoring session before she reviewed and updated a job description with the hiring manager.

Evening

We had leftover delicious risotto with some nice bread for dinner and wtshcrd a bit of TV.

Curtis needs to be up a little earlier tomorrow, so it was a fairly routine early night, just eating, watching TV and doing a bit of cleaning around the apartment.

Place 72 – Day 899: Vancouver, BC – Delicious Risotto

Curtis’ Day

Curtis thought he had a meeting at 09:30, but he didn’t. This freed up some time to get some work done.

At 10:00, Curtis had his Norwegian lesson and then right after that he spent a lot of time trying to get his project completed, which he thought he eventually did.

Curtis also had to talk someone through doing something to hopefully fix some issues that Curtis has been trying to fix for the last month or so.

In the afternoon, after finally being able to have some lunch, Curtis did plan to do some training he needed to do to prepare for later in the week, but unfortunately it turned out the thing be setup for the project earlier didn’t actually work as expected, so it was back to the drawing board and he discussed it with his team as well as trying to figure some things out himself. That means a lot of tomorrow will be taken up with that, too!

Kim’s Day

Kim had 9 meetings today! The first was to discuss a software that the company are thinking of putting in place but then it morphed into a planning meeting to discuss how to review software requests in general. It was a very productive and interesting meeting. Before the company meeting Kim had a quick call with a teammate to hand over a few items. She then joined the company wide meeting and took notes.

Kim then had a planning meeting with a couple of the exec team members and the meeting was crashed by a few people who jumped in. She then provided an update to the finance team in their meeting.

She then had a little break and got some admin done before joining a recruitment meeting and went from that straight into a meeting with Development and IT to organise a few things. She then had a chat with a hopeful new employee before ending the day by reviewing candidates in the pipeline.

Delicious Risotto

We went out for a walk after work and stopped by the liquor store to get some white wine to put in our risotto!

Kim was making her incredible risotto, which took about 45 minutes once we got back. It was terrific as ever and we watched some TV whilst we ate that and afterwards, also.

Place 72 – Day 543: Vancouver, BC – Snowy Walk & Lugging Stuff Around

We woke up a little later than we planned, but it was really nice to sleep!

There was a little bit more snowfall overnight, but not much, but it was still snowing when we woke up!

We had a pain au chocolat each for breakfast and then got ourselves ready for the day.

We went out in the snow for a bit of a walk.

The snow was quite heavy when we left, so we were getting pretty soaked, but it was nice to get some air.

We grabbed a coffee and went for a short walk. We walked to Curtis’ work as he had to pickup a package that was meant to get shipped on Friday, but due to an error, it was not!

We grabbed that so Curtis could take it home and drop it off to the new hire, who luckily lives right opposite us.

It wasn’t the easiest box to lug home as it was fairly heavy and an awkward size, but we did it!

Once elevator is down in our building, so we had to wait a while to get back up the apartment.

Right when we got up, Kim made a terrific chicken and mushroom risotto.

We ate our dinner and watched the film Wine Country which was easy to watch and pretty funny.

We then chilled out for the rest of the evening and we even played some card games! We played Dobble and Exploding Kittens which Kim’s dad sent.

Kim got her work permit paperwork done this morning, but the website to upload it was down so she was unable to do so! Hopefully she can do that tomorrow.

Tomorrow is a day off, so sleeping is on the cards!

Place 72 – Day 432: Vancouver, BC – Full Bathroom Clean

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting at 10:30, so did a bit of work before that.

The meeting was good and after that he did some more tickets.

In the afternoon, Curtis setup accounts for a new starter and did some other tickets, too.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent most of the day doing a deep clean of the bathroom. We noticed it needed to be cleaned, so Kim said she wanted to do it during the day whilst Curtis is working.

This took a couple of hours and then Kim did some more research for the permanent residency we need to get and we now know a little more about what is required and we’ve sent off some emails we need to send to get some information and items.

Risotto

Kim wanted to make some risotto, so she had to go and get some wine as well as some other things for the risotto, such as parmesan cheese.

Kim made the risotto and we watched some TV whilst we ate.

We then watched a Netflix show about designing homes, which is something we love to watch!

Kim had to do her background check for her new job so she did that and we chilled out after that.

Place 72 – Day 382: Vancouver, BC – Enjoyable Pole Dancing

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a pretty good morning which started with a 1 on 1.

Curtis then had his team meeting and then had a few other discussions with his team about a few issues people were having with the new security setup the company rolled out.

After lunch, Curtis did some tickets and then did a bit of reading for his Business Analyst course.

Kim’s Day

Loads of people joined todays midweek catch-up and it was great. They spoke about their favourite music and everyone loved the same kind of music, except Kim, but they all like heavy metal and are used to being the odd one out. So it was a nice switch up for them.

When she arrived in the office Kim worked on a test idea that she had. She out it all together, made sure it works and took lots of photos. She then made a diagram for it and made notes.

Kim found a lot of marketing stuff in her big clean up a few months ago. As part of this she got a lot of hoodies, so she reached out to everyone who should have a hoodie and will work on getting them sent out.

In the afternoon Kim had a meeting with her colleague to go over some facilities communications that need to go out. She also amended and updated a Wiki page to allow for more information to be added to the page. So she reorganised the information on there, added a table and made a new section for more information to go on.

Pole Dancing!

Once Kim got back home, she got ready and went right down to Gastown to do some pole dancing!

The pole classes were amazing! Kim’s first class was tricks based and focused on handstands, which Kim loved! The second class was a lyrical dance class where they did a flowy routine and it was so fun.

Once Kim got back home, we had some leftover risotto for dinner and watched a bit of TV.

Place 72 – Day 381: Vancouver, BC – Doing Network Stuff & Taco Tuesday!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting right at 09:00 and that lasted for about an hour and 15 minutes which was longer than anticipated.

Curtis got ready to leave the apartment after this as he had to do the thing he planned to do yesterday.

He and a colleague got to the office and began moving the equipment they needed to move.

Wearing masks, Curtis had his colleague had to move a large, heavy piece of equipment to another big container.

This had to be done carefully which was fairly easy but took some time. There were many screws that needed to be taken out as well as multiple things to be turned off in certain orders etc.

Curtis and his colleague were very happy to get it done and it went really well, which was the best part.

After that, Curtis went to meet Kim for lunch!

We went to Tacofino and got a couple of tacos each which were, as always, terrific!

We ate these and then Kim went back to work whilst Curtis headed home.

Curtis caught up with a lot from the rest of the day and did some tickets but the rest of the day went very fast!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with voicemails, and that kept getting interrupted by real time calls! To get up and about she then put all the kitchen stuff she has hoarded in the meeting room into some of the kitchen cupboards, so that frees up a lot of room.

For the last part of the morning Kim went over the list of people with access cards and updated the building with all the names of people who are no longer with the company.

After lunch Kim continued cleaning up the office. She removed a load of bankers boxes from the mass shredding and put them at a colleagues desk as she may need them. She moved a few of the empty drawers around and then put the group meeting space back together.

Kim then had a catchup with her colleague before she left to head home. At the end she went over her dream plan for the office set up and it went well, so Kim will pull some information together and see if it would work.

Evening

In the evening, Kim stopped on the way home so she could get some white wine to make dinner with.

Kim got home and made a terrific chicken and mushroom risotto which we ate whilst watching some YouTube videos.

We watched some more TV and relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 267: Vancouver, BC – The Calm Before The Storm

We had no plans for today, so we did basically nothing!

We wanted to get some relaxing in before we have to move this to week.

We woke up and just had some serial for breakfast and watched a little TV.

After that, we had a shower and then Curtis played some games whilst Kim relaxed and played on her phone.

We watched a little more TV together and then got hungry, so Kim made her delicious chicken and mushroom risotto!

After dinner, we watched Birds of Prey which was a pretty decent film.

Birds of Prey

Our Rating:- 7/10

We finished up with watching that and then someone came to pickup something we were selling, which was just a storage rack.

The person came to pick that up and then for the rest of the evening, we just relaxed a little more.

We have a lot of stuff to pack up this week!

Place 72 – Day 212: Vancouver, BC – First Time Working From Home

Curtis’ Day

We were up at 08:15, which is about 45 minutes later than usual, as we both have to work from home.

We both had our breakfast and got ready for the day with showers and what not.

Curtis had some admin to do and then a general team meeting at 10:30. Around this time was when Trudeau gave his speech indicating that he was closing all of the borders into Canada!

Curtis did some of the abundance of tickets that were coming in and then had a meeting at 12:00 for one of his projects.

He then had a team meeting and then another meeting about a project.

Curtis then had lunch with Kim which was really lovely to be able to do!

Kim’s Day

This was Kim’s first time ever working from home! She now has to do this for a while, so she has to get used to it!

Kim had a team catch-up to see how everyone was doing which was nice to chat with everyone.

Kim then worked on health and safety documents, getting those ready to go.

Kim had another meeting about an events project which was positive.

Kim went up to the shops to get a few things we needed and then did some reading in the late afternoon, but that wasn’t too thrilling.

Risotto Again

Kim went to an appointment and when she got back, we had leftover risotto, but had a salad to start!

We watched some TV and ate some food…that will be our life for the foreseeable future now!

Place 72 – Day 211: Vancouver, BC – Long, Long Walk

Kitsilano Beach Walk

We got up and had some breakfast, but got ready for the day fairly quickly.

We left the apartment and had a brilliant 45 minute walk to Kitsilano!

The sun was out, it was still cold but there were no clouds in the sky.

We didn’t expect there to be many people either, but there were actually a lot.

We got to Kitsilano and walked around a bit, just for no reason. It was so nice out that we felt we should.

We did stop and get a coffee and doughnuts at Parallel 49th, though.

We started to walk back after this, with a few stops on the way to pet some dogs and we walked on the beach for a bit, which gave us excellent views!

Guinness & Moscow Mule

We got back home and went for a drink at the pub near our apartment!

We had been out for a good few hours, so felt like we deserved it.

Curtis got a Guinness and Kim got a Moscow Mule.

Risotto

Kim made her famous risotto again and we ate that for dinner. It was truly amazing!

We then watched some TV as well as a film, The Death Of Stalin which we thought was very funny!

We are both working from home tomorrow (and for the foreseeable future), as mentioned previously, so we don’t need to be awake as early!

Place 72 – Day 191: Vancouver, BC – Delicious Risotto!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis, around meetings, spent most of the day doing just 2 things.

He had to look into some databases for a ticket, which he was doing last week too. He eventually got it to do as he wanted today, so he was able to send that to the external company so they could assist with troubleshooting.

As well as this, Curtis had to speak with lots of different people to see if they required some things that they had on the system and also educating them regarding the correct way to do these things.

Curtis’ meetings today we’re useful! One was the weekly team meeting which got a few things ironed out and the other meeting was to discuss as a team around what the plan will be with the main software we are using, such as changing permissions and settings on each individual part of the software.

Curtis got some training done at the end of the day and headed off to sportchek.

Curtis bought a new hockey helmet and another visor to give that a go.

Kim’s Day

As Kim was away at her course on Friday she had a few emails to catch up on. She did a few on Friday night, but there were some that required a little more attention so she left them until then.
Mid morning she had a meeting with her manager to discuss the plans for when she is not in the office. It was great to know that they were on the same page with a lot of things.

Kim spent a lot of time on the Wiki project again as all the links broke due to a different migration happening over the weekend. She also had a tidy up and uniformed some of the pages too.

Kim finished her afternoon by working on some course stuff!

Another Visor

We got home and Curtis attempted to fit the new visor to his new helmet.

This worked perfectly, but it’s a bit bigger of a visor than he usually likes, so he’ll either have to get used to it or use another visor!

Kim got some training and planning done and then made a chicken and mushroom risotto, which was delicious.

We ate and watched one episode of a TV show and then Curtis made his lunch whilst Kim studied.
