Place 72 – Day 453: Vancouver, BC – Changing Many Processes

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting in the morning which went on for quite a while with his team.

After that meeting, Curtis caught up with emails and messages and then had to re-fix the issue he fixed from last week, which took most of the day, though there was a meeting in between to start a project with regards to his Business Analyst work.

Overall, the day went fast but was successful! He got things done and was busy for most of the day.

Kim’s Day

A new starter joined today so Kim got ready by going through notes and having a quick call with her teammate. They then both joined the call with the new starter gave them the chance to ask questions and helped out where they could.

Kim the prepared for a few other meetings in the day by making notes of things to discuss and researching ahead of the meeting. She also added a new meeting to a lot of peoples calendars.

Kim joined a meeting that was about a new role people want to hire for. This opened the door and now there are three new roles. Kim will now research salaries and built up base job descriptions for these positions, its very exciting!

Shortly after this Kim had a team meeting and she decided that today was the day to inform her manager that she is applying for PR and will need help from the company. Kim had hardly finished the question and her manager had already said ‘for sure’ so thats a big weight off of her shoulders and she is over the moon that the company will help. Kim is really enjoying her job and would much rather not leave! They also discussed the winter party and a facilities project Kim is working on.

Later in the afternoon Kim had a meeting with a manager to discuss their requirements for recruitment, onboarding and IT equipment their team will need. It went well and Kim has some good direction for her new onboarding process.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim worked on the facilities project, booked some meetings and sent a summary to her colleague and manager as an FYI.

Evening

We had leftover lasagna for dinner along with a ceasar salad.

We watched some TV and played some games. We were pretty tired, to be honest, so we went to bed pretty early.

Place 72 – Day 431: Vancouver, BC – Autumn Is Here!

Curtis’ Hockey

Curtis’ team won their game last night, which was good, but there was controversy again!

The other team’s goalie pulled his groin at the end of the 1st period, so the other team had to get a player into the goalie gear and play him in net!

Curtis managed to get an assist and his team won 4-1, but felt bad for the other team a bit and hoped the goalie was ok!

Autumn Is Here!

We went out today for a walk to and around Stanley Park.

We walked a different way to get to an Italian coffee shop which we had some nice coffee from!

We had a long walk for a few hours and it was much colder due to it being autumn now. It was beautiful outside, but much colder.

Katsu

We got home and relaxed for a bit, playing some games, doing some research for our PR & watching some TV.

We then went out to do the shop at around 17:45, which felt much later as it was so dark!

We got the shop done and headed back home, where Kim made a chicken katsu curry.

The chicken was really good, but for some reason the sauce didn’t turn out ask expected, which was a little disappointing.

We chilled out for the evening, it was a little colder too than it has been, so it felt nice and cosy.

Place 72 – Day 430: Vancouver, BC – Frozen II & PR Research

Needed Sleep

We woke up pretty late today but we really needed the sleep!

We felt pretty great this morning, but it was a little cold this morning for the first time in a while.

We had more cinnamon rolls this morning which were delicious as always, and watched a bit of TV.

Belgian Cafe & Walk

Once we got ourselves ready we went down to the Belgian cafe that Kim went to yesterday and got ourselves some coffee! Curtis had a cappuccino and Kim had a mocha, as she did yesterday. These coffees were great!

We went for a bit of a walk along the sea wall, in the newly cold weather here in Vancouver.

We walked back home and once we got back we did a bit of research for how to get permanent residence here in Vancouver so we can stay for another year. Our plans have changed as we did plan to leave in May but due to a few different circumstances we are looking to stay for a bit, but our current visa ends in May.

Sausage & Mash

We had sausages (Curtis had pork and Kim had chicken) and mash for dinner, along with Yorkshire puddings and gravy.

We ate this and watched a bit of TV.

Hockey, Frozen II & More Research

Curtis has a hockey game tonight, so he’ll be heading off to that later today, and Kim plans to watch Frozen II, as well as do a lot more research on the PR.

Place 72 – Day 128: Vancouver, BC – Child Cancer Awareness Month Pancakes

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got the office and right away it was time for pancakes.

For a donation towards child cancer research, each person in the office could have some pancakes! Afsara, the office coordinator of his office, was the one making the pancakes and she even chopped up for fruit and bought some syrup/whipped cream to have with them!

Curtis was already full from breakfast, but he donated and had a couple of pancakes anyway, just with strawberries though, nothing fancy.

Curtis ate his pancakes and then started his day.

The morning was quiet up until around 11:00, when he had a few people call after him at once! He got side tracked trying to get stuff done tha he forgot about lunch, but only had it 15 minutes later than normal.

After lunch, it was more of the same. He had something from before lunch to finish and then at 15:00, once it calmed down again, he wiped an old laptop.

Kim’s Day

Today it felt like Kim did nothing, but she never stooped all day!

Kim arranged to pick up the coffee beween 8:15-8:30 this morning so she could save time. On her way into the office she bumped into a colleague who helped her in, which was a great relief!

Once in the office Kim updated all of the fruit bowls and set the cold drinks aside for both meeting rooms. Kim then took everything needed to the 25th floor and then did it all again for the meeting in the boardroom on the same floor, only this time, they also had muffins to prepare.

After settng up the meetings without a hiccup Kim moved on to going through her emails. She also ran down to collect the mail and took a little time to eat some breakfast.

The first set of catering to arrive was for the smaller group so Kim went through and organised it all then the other caterer for the larger meeting was roughly 60 minutes late causing the driver and Kim to set up in the meeting room which was not ideal. That with a few comments about the food meant that Kim had to make a call to the company and outline what happened after she had cleared away the lunch stuff from both meetings.

After having a chat with the caterer and sending them across an email Kim had some time to go through her receipts and save all the ones from.the past week and a half. She was also lucky enough to be able to respond to some emails!

Just before the end of the day the smaller meeting finished, so Kim emptied and cleared down that room and set it up for the larger meeting to move down there for tomorrow.

Kim then called the restaurant for the larger meeting to delay their reservation by 30 minutes so Kim then had time to continue going through emails.

Once the larger meeting left Kim cleared and emptied their room before heading home.

The Trial Is Over

Curtis was playing games but then his trial ran out for the new NHL so he has to wait until Friday to play that now!

He played some other games, did the washing up, at a really tasty sandwich that Kim brought home for him and then made lunch for tomorrow.

All of this was whilst Kim was at her exercise session.

Place 72 – Day 71: Vancouver, BC – Things Needed to Be Done

Hockey Stick

Curtis got up at 09:15 and got ready to walk up the road. He was meeting someone selling a hockey stick and it was only about 5 minutes walk from home.

Curtis got there, paid for the stick and had a little chat with the guy before he walked home.

Once he got back home, Kim was freshly awake and then Curtis made some cereal for breakfast.

We watched a bit of TV and then headed out to get stuff done!

Pharmacy

We went to collect something from the pharmacy but had to wait for about 45 minutes, so we wasted time by getting a coffee, which turned out to be a big mistake!

We went to Whole Foods who had an Allegro coffee shop which we saw does Vietnamese coffee, so we got a large one each.

This was not nice. It actually made us both feel a little sick.

We went back to the drug store and they weren’t ready yet, so we got a few items we needed, such as bodywash, baby wipes & hair wax.

We got the prescription finally and then walked back towards home. On the way, we got a few things from the supermarket.

Important Admin!

We got back and for about 4 hours we got some admin done. We sent money to our Canadian account from New Zealand as we both got big tax refunds there!

As well as that, Kim did some research for her presents for Curtis’ birthday and a few other admin tasks, such as looking for a car to buy and Curtis bought his hockey gear, too!

A very productive day, but not particularly exciting.

We had mushroom pasta for dinner and a side salad.

We watched some more TV and then went to bed. Neither of us have felt very good after the coffee earlier!
