Oslo

Place 93 – May 21 2022 & May 22 2022: Oslo 🇳🇴 – New Favourite City?

Day 1

We woke up for our last day at the farm and we were made some waffles for breakfast!

We went to see one of the kids’ gymnastics performance nearby. This was great to see all of the kids having fun.

Unfortunately we had to leave before it was done and drive to Oslo! We had never been so we wanted to see what it was like so we drove there to stay for our final night in Norway. We stopped in Kongsberg for snack and coffee, of course!

We got rid of the car, which wasn’t super easy to find and it was actually in a parking structure but maps took us to a different location! Once we did that we got ourselves checked in to our hotel which was right on one of the main streets.
We had a shower and freshened up before walking for some dinner.

We walked fairly far to get a burger for dinner but it was great as we got to see a lot of the city.

Once dinner was done, we continued our long walk around Oslo and all of the different areas! We also went to the cool looking opera house that they have in Oslo.

For the evening we had a nice relaxing time with snacks in bed and watched some TV.

Day 2

We had free breakfast at the hotel but it was a nightmare! Far too busy for such a small spot.

We walked to the King’s castle and we walked around the park that is attached to the castle. It was such a peaceful place to walk around and the architecture, as is Europe, was beautiful.

We went to ‘Frognerparken’ which is the famous park with a lot of nude sculptures in it, which is one part of it but also it’s a nice park and the sculptures look cool!

We walked to find ourselves a coffee and then walked to Askerhus festing, which is an old castle/military fort.

We walked quite far from here to ‘Gamle Oslo’ which is the old part of town which also has a very new part just around it. We wanted to check this out and we loved it.

We went back to the hotel to get ourselves sorted and then headed to catch the train to the airport.

We flew back to the UK to spend a couple more days there.

Kim’s dad, Tom, picked us up from the airport and we had a McDonald’s for dinner on the way home, of course! It was time to sleep once we got back.

Place 72 – Day 559: Vancouver, BC – We Definitely Have A New Apartment!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had his Norwegian lesson in the morning which went incredibly well! He had a great conversation that flowed naturally.

After that, he had back to back meetings. The first was a project update meeting and the second was to understand some issues for a team and make a plan of how to resolve those.

Once that meeting was done and Kim was done with her meeting, we took our lunch break and used it to go to the apartment we were offered just to make sure it’s what we want…which it was! The landlord was amazing and the space was even more perfect then we thought.

We verbally agreed to sign and got all the paperwork to sort out!

For some of the afternoon, Curtis looked up about swapping internet providers to save some money at the new apartment, as well as hired a moving company as we are super lazy and can’t be bothered to do it ourselves.

We got that done and looked over the lease agreement and contract etc.

Kim’s Day

Kim worked in a few documents to be ready for meetings for the day. She then joined a recruitment meeting to discuss one departments needs for the next few months. Kim was able to get a great idea of the roles needed and how to put together the job descriptions for them.

She then presented in the weekly meeting before joining the weekly project huddle.

After the viewing Kim did a little training with her new teammate and made sure that they have the right log ins and accesses. She then had a meeting with another teammate to go over documents that they have been working on.

To finish the day Kim did a little admin and then popped out to a shop to pick up something that had been delivered. It turns out that it hasn’t been delivered, so Kim went to another shop for some things for dinner and then headed home.

Evening

When Kim finished work, we made some food (just some seasoned chicken in a wrap with cheese, BBQ sauce and mayo) then we went out to the supermarket to do our shop.

Once we got back, we took out the bins and then we looked at some additional furniture we will need for our new apartment, most notably a desk and chair each, as we’ll each have dedicated office areas, which is exciting!

Curtis also bought himself a monitor to work and play games on.

We relaxed for what was left of the evening…it was a busy one!

Place 72 – Day 167: Vancouver,BC – Sofa Swap

U-haul

We started the day at 08:45, getting up and ready to head off to U-haul.

We jumped in the car and drove the 15 minutes there. We were early, so got breakfast at McDonald’s.

We got to U-Haul & picked up the van. We did a check around it had to mark any dents and scrapes as you do, but we got to do this through a webpage rather than a piece of paper, which was cool!

We drove off and headed to our first destination.

Picking Up A Sofa

We were purchasing a sofa from someone and so had to drive out to them and collect.

We got to them, parked up and started loading it in. Luckily, the sofa came apart in multiple easy chunks (thank goodness for IKEA!) so it was no problem moving it around.

Once we collected that, we got out of the way there and drove home.

We got home and brought everything inside. We took all of the covers off of the sofa and cushions and chucked them into a wash.

Dropping Off Our Sofa

We got everything in and then had to get our current sofa into the van. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the luxury of being able to break it down, so had to lug it out whole, which we got sorted eventually and then were back on the road.

We drove for 20 minutes to the people that were buying it from us.

We had to wait for 15 minutes before they responded and then it started raining! Luckily, we were able to get a spot right outside their building and helped them unload the van.

After this, we headed to take back the van and had to stop for fuel along the way.

IKEA

We dropped the van off and then got back in the car and drove up to IKEA, because why not.

We got there, parked up and took a wander around. The only things we bought were a pillow, some small Christmas decorations, laundry baskets, some cinnamon buns and some other Swedish snacks!

We had a hotdog and drink before we left and it hit the spot perfectly.

We took the drive home knowing we had to rebuild the sofa.

Sofa Building

We got home and built the sofa. It was the perfect size and seemed very comfy!

Some of the cushion covers are still damp, but we have everything else on and it is a great sofa. (It’s an Ektorp from IKEA).

Curtis watched hockey and Kim relaxed in the evening.

More!

Kim saw something on Facebook she wanted so she went out at 19:15 to buy it. It’s a storage rack for the bedroom so we can organise things a little better.

We ate some leftovers and watched TV For the rest of the night…it was a busy, successful day.

Interview

Curtis had a phone interview this morning at 09:30, so he had to be up for that.

Curtis had his phone interview which he felt went very well. He was excited about the potential of getting that role actually!

Breakfast

Curtis walked to McDonald’s after he finished his call and got showered.

Kim packed whilst Curtis went to get the breakfast.

We ate breakfast quickly and then headed downstairs to check out and catch a Lyft to the airport.

Collecting Our Car

Whilst we had to go to the airport, it wasn’t to fly, it was to collect our car.

We collected our car, which is a Kia Soul, and hit the roads.

We hit the road and drove out of Vegas.

It was mostly just straight driving to get to our destination. There was a lot of cool rocks and mountains along the way, too.

e drove through Nevada then through Arizona until we arrived in Utah!

Hurricane, Utah

We got to Hurricane and stopped off at Chick-Fil-A for some lunch. We each got a deluxe chicken sandwich and some waffle fries each.

We drove 10 minutes further down the road and arrived at the home were are staying at. The home is beautiful and we are sharing with 2 people that live in the house and one other room of guests.

We got acquainted and Curtis watched hockey whilst Kim relaxed.

Healthy(ish) Dinner

We wanted something a bit healthier for dinner, so we drove to the supermarket and picked up some caesar salad and some breakfast items.

We got back and ate our salad before going home and chilling out, whilst planning our couple of days here.
