Place 72 – Day 581: Vancouver, BC – Strategy Meetings

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a team meeting at 10:30 which overran but some good project related conversations happened. Once that meeting was done, there was some time get tickets completed and then it was time for another meeting.

The next meeting was a strategy meeting which his team has each month to decide what should be the goals for the month and publish those for the entire company to see. This went really well as always.

Once that was done and lunch was eaten, Curtis had a team meeting just to chat about anything the team wanted to talk about. These happen every month or so and they are certainly good to just throw ideas around and discuss things that are annoying the team.

In the late afternoon, Curtis helped someone who was having a whole bunch of issues with some software. He was able to help them troubleshoot and in the end, he managed to get it sorted for them. It was one of those issues that feels really good afterward you fix it!

Kim’s Day

Kim had a more open morning than in other days of this week. She had a morning full of admin and catching up and her regular weekly chat with her manager.

In the afternoon Kim had two interviews and a quick meeting sandwiched in between. After the second interview Kim has a call to review the candidates spoken with and also take a look at others in the pipeline.

Evening

After work, we had some pizza for dinner and then went out for a walk when it got dark. This is the best time for a walk as there is no one around and it’s nice and calm and relaxing.

We bumped into Kim’s colleague whilst out so had a brief (distanced) chat with her and continued our walk. We stopped at Dairy Queen to get some ice cream on the way back.

We finished up Drive To Survive and then watched a couple of other bits of TV before sleeping. We didn’t seem to sleep great last night and Curtis has a 09:00 meeting, so he’ll need to be up early!

Place 72 – Day 413: Vancouver, BC – The Season Begins!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got things ready to head to the office this morning and then took the walk down.

Once he got there, he got a laptop from the storage room and started setting that up.

Curtis also had to do some project work which involved some testing, seeing if certain websites could be accessed in different ways.

Curtis did that and then continued setting up the laptop.

He had a meeting to discuss his personal learning plan and how he wishes to develop within the next 6 months to a year.

Curtis finished up the laptop setup and booked a courier to pick it up.

After that, Curtis had a call with someone to try and fix something for them, but after 1.5 hours of trying, they couldn’t get it working, which was frustrating!

Curtis did a few more things and eventually walked home around 16:00. Long, busy, tiring day!

Kim’s Day

Kim has got a phone interview for tomorrow! She received an email to set up a 20-30 minute chat with a recruiter for one of the positions that she is really excited about. Once she set up the time Kim took a deeper look into the company and is now more excited than she was previously. It will be a similar role that she is used to but with a few more responsibilities, but its always good to learn more!

In the afternoon Kim did a bit of housework and had a lazier day. She will probably apply to a few jobs while Curtis is at hockey tonight.

The Season Begins!

Curtis got back home and we watched a bit of TV, then Kim made some chicken pasta for dinner.

We ate that and then Curtis hopped in the car and drove up to the hockey rink for his first game of the season!

We will update you on the game tomorrow, as it’s a fairly late one.

Kim did some job searching whilst Curtis was at hockey and she did a few other things around the apartment.

Place 72 – Day 333: Vancouver, BC – Email Issues!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a busy start to the day as there were some issues with Microsoft Outlook.

Curtis had to find out what was happening from the users and eventually from Microsoft.

Curtis dealt with this and then had a team meeting.

Once that meeting was done, he was looking at Google accounts throughout the company and removing any that could be removed as well as organising the grouping and ensuring that everything was correct there.

He did this throughout most of the day.

Curtis had a project meeting in the afternoon which was very positive.

Kim’s Day

Kim worked from home for some of the morning and started the day by hosting the mid week catch up before joining this months health and safety committee meeting. Both meetings went really well!

Once Kim was in the office she started working on communications that will go out over rhe coming weeks. She would take breaks when she couldn’t figure out what else was needed by tearing apart the few remaining notebooks to recycle and shred. Kim also had a quick call with a colleague to discuss one of the communications, just to get a second opinion.

In the mid afternoon Kim and two friends went out to get a vietnamese coffee! It was so lovely to get out in the sun and have a delicious coffee!

When she got back Kim took some time out from communications to update the maps on the Wiki. Then she went back to continue writing.

Kim finished the day by having a great big catch up with a friend that went well into the evening. It was so lovely to sit down and just chat!

Yet Another Walk

Kim got home fairly late and we had the same dinner as yesterday.

We watched a little TV and then went out for a nice evening walk again, and chatted about each of our days.

We got back home and played some virtual mini golf and then Kim watched some of the office and Curtis played some games.

Place 49 – Day 278: Auckland – Day Trip to Thames

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis got up at the normal time, but his plans were a little different.

At 07:00, Curtis left home and drove for 1.5 hours down to a client in a town called Thames in the Coromandel Peninsula.

The drive down to Thames was very beautiful and the weather was very hot for most of the day in general.

Curtis got to the client and had to drive down a long gravel road to get there, which was interesting! At the client, Curtis sorted some printer, scanner and email issues and then left! He was there for just two hours before making the drive back.

The journey home was much busier as there were a lot of large lorries holding up traffic.

Curtis worked from home for the afternoon.

Both of us;

When Kim got home, she planned to go to the gym but just wasn’t feeling it, so instead we decided to go for a walk around Onepoto Domain, as we did the other evening.

Once we got back, we were trying to decide what to have for dinner. We went with a breakfast for dinner vibe, having scrambled eggs, beans, homemade chips and mushrooms.

We watched YouTube videos for the rest of the evening and then to bed!

Place 49 – Day 274: Auckland – Drinks & Chocolate

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis got to work early despite traffic being fairly heavy on the way in.

Curtis had some admin to do and then throughout the day had some cases which took quite a bit of time but were good because he could really get his teeth stuck into them. This included a 1.25 hour phone call and remote session which was actually interesting and kept him busy.

Curtis left the office around 16:25 and it only took him 15 minutes to get home.

Both of us;

Kim got home and made a chicken and vegetable pasta bake for dinner. We ate dinner and watched a bit of TV before Kim showered and went out to see Tabitha.

Kim’s Evening;

Kim went to a chocolatecafe with Tabitha and then went to ‘The Elephant Wrestler’ pub for a drink.

Once Kim got home, we got ready for bed and slept! It’s Friday tomorrow!

Place 49 – Day 243: Auckland – More ‘Homemade’ Chinese Food!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis arrived at work and was able to start getting some work done. The day slowed down halfway through the morning and then of course picked up again after lunch! Curtis got an email about a database that wasn’t working. This kept Curtis busy all afternoon though it was interesting as it was something new to deal with.

Curtis managed to fix it and then went home.

Both of us;

We both got home and got ready for the gym.

We went to the gym and went on the cross trainer for 10 minutes to break a sweat before going to a few different workout machines.

We left the gym and went to the shop to get some dinner.

For dinner, we had duck wraps with spring onions and cucumber.

We also had some pork and duck bao.

Place 49 – Day 240: Auckland – Back At The Quiz!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis hit every traffic light perfectly this morning which meant he got to work super early!

Curtis had a lot of emails from Friday to go over so he did that but also received a phone call. He was only on that call for 15 minutes, luckily!

Not long after that call, Curtis got another which was a little more urgent and meant that Curtis had to go onsite to the client. He’d never been there before, either, so it was good to see another client.

Curtis got there and they were having internet issues which turned out to be hardware issues (with a switch) so Curtis managed to plug everything into another switch and get them up and running again.

Curtis got back to the office and it was fairly busy for the rest of the day, helping someone else with some network issues before leaving at 16:15.

Both of us;

We decided we wanted to go to the quiz with Josh and Danielle this evening, so we left when Kim got home.

We arrived and it wasn’t that busy, but that soon changed!

We ordered some food and waited for the quiz to start. Kim got her usual pesto pizza and Curtis had braised lamb and chilli pasta.

During the quiz, we thought we were doing quite well until the last few rounds when we dropped off. Danielle got a lot of the bonus question right which boosted our points up! We still got second to last which is perfect as we win our usual prize.

We left and came home and it was then about 22:00, so the perfect time for bed.

This time last year, we arrived in Vietnam! Read about it in the link below!
