Place 72 – Day 886: Vancouver, BC – Laptops, All Day

Curtis’ Day

Curtis headed right to the office this morning as he had some things to get done there.

He started by setting up a laptop and getting together equipment to send out with the laptop.

Whilst doing that, Curtis did some tickets and other things, too.

Someone then dropped off their laptop and Curtis and to wipe and re-setup that laptop as it was having some issues. That didn’t actually take as long as expected, so that gave him some extra time.

The person came and picked up their laptop in the late afternoon and Curtis was able to give them that with no issues.

Curtis then headed home around 16:30 and when he got home, he had lunch as he hadn’t had it yet today!

Curtis then watched hockey whilst Kim did some work.

Kim’s Day

To start the day Kim joined a meeting about a new projects one of her colleagues might be working on she then joined a recruitment meeting but only her teammate showed up, so they had a quick chat and check in before Kim joined an interview.

After the interview and the review Kim went to a team meeting where everyone gave updates about projects they are working on. She went from this into another interview and review before completing some paperwork and sending it out.

After a quick lunch Kim had two catch ups with teammates to see how they are doing and update each other on projects. Kim then joined her final interview of the day, has the review and then completed some more paperwork.

Evening

We had potato, peas and mushrooms for dinner and then chilled out. We both had very long, busy days so we needed to just zone out.

Place 72 – Day 546: Vancouver, BC – Virtual Dance Party!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had just one meeting planned for the day, and that was right at 09:30 for a team catch up.

Once that was done, Curtis spent 1.5 hours getting a document together to provide some information to colleagues around the company. He felt the document was good and should help a lot of people in the future!

After that, he did some tickets and also reached out to Microsoft to see if they could assist with removing a feature from some software.

Post lunch, Curtis had to do some more tickets but also review a document that a colleague had made and see if there was anything to change or add.

Kim’s Day

After getting a few things done in the morning Kim joined a meeting to review some quotes that had been sent in. She then worked on a few documents before meeting her colleague to collect a laptop from them.

At midday Kim joined a meeting with her manager to go over a few of the projects, get up to speed on a few things and ask a few questions. She went straight from this meeting into a webinar about remote working. It was so interesting!

Kim then hosted a dance off which ended up being a mini lesson on the night fever dance followed by a few people watching the clip from the movie and dancing along. It was so much fun and a great little wellness break! They also discussed the other wellness activities that have been going on and people asked for another games night. Kim was shocked! So she sent out the invites for the next few wellness things and the Friday games night.

After lunch Kim had a chat with her teammate to go over a few things they are working on together and then she had a call with another colleague to catch up on a few things.

For the rest of the afternoon and into the evening Kim finished a few admin tasks and then worked on contracts and job descriptions.

Evening

Curtis watched hockey after work whilst Kim did some more work.

Once hockey was done, Kim made some sweet chilli potato wedges and we ate those and watched some TV.

We watched more TV and played some card games for the remainder of the day.

Place 72 – Day 541: Vancouver, BC – Unconscious Bias Training

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a training session for unconscious bias which was very enlightening and very good for everyone at the company.

That lastest for 2 hours and Curtis felt very informed afterwards.

Right after, he had another meeting which was all about security and that was interesting.

Curtis then had 30 minutes to get some work done then had some lunch.

After lunch, he had a team meeting that lasted for about 1.5 hours and was all about planning future projects.

After that meeting, Curtis had some work to do from that meeting, so he had to create an plan out an entire large project.

Curtis then did some other work followed by a Norwegian test which he’s doing out of interest.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a much slower day today. She had a quick call in the morning and managed to check back through the week and see the things she had missed. Towards the middle of the day she had a meeting with a couple of people to discuss new hires and a few other projects or topics. It was extremely helpful, interesting and fun!

After that call she had a quick chat with her teammate to go over the week and catch up, which was so helpful again. Kim also managed to give her a heads up on things happening next week, which was fun!

For the rest of the afternoon Kim caught up on work that she hadn’t managed to achieve during the week. Then to finish the day she had a quick call with a colleague. Kim then accidentally worked on the invite, budget and survey for another event coming up. She was super happy with the invite she pulled together!

Evening

For dinner, we ordered from Peaked Pies. We each got a pie with mashed potato and peas. Kim got a chicken, mushroom and leak pie, whilst Curtis got a traditional Aussie pie (ground beef, onion & gravy).

We really enjoyed that and ate it whilst watching To All The Boys: Always & Forever. Nice easy film to watch, and the third in the trilogy.

Place 72 – Day 531: Vancouver, BC – It’s Our Turn

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a slow morning, just doing a bit of admin and a few quick tickets.

He had his Norwegian lesson at 10:30 and then had a meeting right after to discuss some project requirements.

Once that meeting was done, he had to craft and send an email from that project, which he did, then he did some more tickets up until lunch.

Post lunch, he had some people message him with some issues so he did that, then he spent the remainder of the day getting the project work completed that he started yesterday. He was able to get it working how he wanted, which is great, now he just need to make some finishing touches and show it to the team tomorrow.

Once that was done, it was cleaning time as we had another showing at our apartment today (and possibly this weekend) even though we expected yesterday to be the last.

Kim’s Day

At the start of her day Kim had a quick call about the facilities project before joining a quick team meeting that will have happening each morning this week and then Kim joined a call to set up someone’s new laptop.

Towards the end of the morning Kim joined the weekly company wide meeting and gave an update. She then worked on a new survey to go out to all of the employees.

At 2 Kim hosted a wellness break for people to join as a lot of teams have a lot going on this week. Everyone joined the call and followed along to a guided meditation talk. People really enjoyed it and went back to work rejuvenated, which was fantastic!

For the rest of the afternoon Kim worked on updating a job posting and made a couple of LinkedIn posts too.

Evening

We walked down the street to an apartment to take a look at it as we wanted to see some 2 bed apartments around the city.

We didn’t like it too much, it was a strange shape, and not really 2 bedroom.

We came back home and waited downstairs to view a 2 bedroom apartment in our current building, which is convenient.

We actually really liked this apartment!

We headed out to the store right after to get a few items for dinner and then headed back home.

We made dinner, the potato/pea & cheese ‘thing’ as it’s super easy and delicious.

Kim got invited to apply for provincial nomination today, the same thing Curtis got invited to, so that she can use it to get a work permit a little easier.

Due to getting invited, Kim did a bit of the admin for that in the evening.

We watched some TV and chilled once Kim got that done.

We have no viewings, either for us or for our apartment, tomorrow so it’s a big relax evening!

Place 72 – Day 515: Vancouver, BC – Apartment Being Sold!

We woke up and had some cereal for breakfast and then went out for a walk.

We went and got another hot chocolate from the hot chocolate festival. This time it was from Peaked Pie which is an Australian pie shop.

The hot chocolate was a lamington flavour, which, if you’re unaware, is an Australian chocolate and coconut cake!

Curtis got a flat white too, which was excellent!

We had a walk for another hour or two and then headed back home.

We then met our landlord and her agent at our apartment. We were told yesterday that it was being sold, which shouldn’t affect us, but obviously there are things that need to be done, such as photos being taken and viewings, so we have a lot of cleaning to do and many of our evenings/days will be taken up with viewings and cleaning.

Once that meeting was done, we went to the shop to get ourselves some food for the week, though we didn’t need to get to much. We also stopped in at Canadian Tire to get a storage box that we can throw things in when the viewings happen.

Once we got home, Kim re-tried making the potato, mushroom & peas meal we had a couple of weeks ago.

It was delicious!

We ate that and watched some TV, then we played some games and watched a bit more TV.

Place 72 – Day 496: Vancouver, BC – A Bank Meeting

We woke up at a decent time today, but we did sleep in today, especially compared to yesterday.

We had some toasties for breakfast and watched some TV.

After showering and getting ready, we remembered that we had a bank appointment to go to, so we went and did that. We were at the bank for about an hour or so, but in that time we got some things done which we need both for our PR application but also for some other things that we had needed for a while and just never got around to doing.

We got back home and had some pizza and a coffee and played some games.

After that, we made sausages, potato gratin, peas, carrots and gravy.

We ate that and went back to playing some Minecraft but then watched some TV.

There’s been rainfall warnings today, so the weather isn’t likely to get any better, so it’s unlikely we’ll be doing anything exciting (not that we can anyway!).

place 72 – Day 449: Vancouver, BC – New Job, Many Meetings!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very informative company wide meeting in the morning and then after that he worked on the issue from yesterday which was a lot of waiting for things to download but it did fix the issue, which was excellent!

Curtis then did tickets up to lunch time and after lunching he did a lot of training which involved reading and doing some practice tests.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a busy day today, there were a lot of meetings and a lot to get done! She started her day by getting a few final things written up to present to her colleague and manager in a meeting during the morning.

In the team meeting Kim went over a few events coming up over the next few weeks and got some direction and clarification for those. They also went over a few other projects that are going on.

After the meeting Kim hosted a social lunch call where she had a lovely chat with someone. It was one of the first non work calls she had been on, so it was nice to just talk and get to know them.

After lunch Kim joined a HR meeting. She didn’t participate too much, but she did take notes of things that need to be done and let the people on the call know of the few changes coming up over the next few weeks and the new processes that will be in place. After this Kim joined another call that was discussing the vendor relationship with the company. Again, kim did a lot of listening and took some notes for herself during this meeting.

Kims colleague asked for a quick chat to go over a few things coming up so they had a quick call before they both joined an interview. Kim took notes during the interview and her colleague and another person asked most of the questions, but its great for Kim to be a fly on the wall to take notes, learn and know what to expect when she starts interviewing.

Kim had a short break before a quick call with a vendor to go over setting up the account.

For the afternoon and into the evening Kim worked on the invite, sign up sheet, budget and timeline for the winter event coming up. She sent that over to her manager to ensure she is happy with the costs and plan for the day.

Evening

We had sausages and mash for dinner with peas and gravy!

That was pretty much our whole evening.

We didn’t really do anything else! We watched some TV and played some games as usual.

Place 72 – Day 343: Vancouver, BC – Mt Seymour Hike

Early Wake Up (For a Saturday)

We woke up at 09:00, which is early for us on a Saturday, and we got up and got ready for the long day!

We had french toast for breakfast with cheese!

Hiking!

We drove for 45 minutes up to Mt Seymour. The drive was super easy and there wasn’t much traffic.

We got parked up and the weather became very cold, as we were on a mountain, of course.

We walked to the first trail, which was to head to Mystery Lake. This was an easy hike, but with some good elevation!

We got to the lake after about an hour and sat down, just relaxing and looking at the scenery, which was a beautiful big lake!

We left here and walked up further, eventually hitting the top of a mountain! The views were stunning and we sat and had some lunch here. We had a sandwich we bought this morning from our favourite coffee shop. We managed to find snow on the way up too!

We walked down once we were done with lunch and found a small trail to go up which ended up joining the main trail. We then found out that it was a much, much longer hike to where we wanted to go, so we just hiked all the way back down to the car.

We were out for a long while, and we drove home, very warm and sweaty, but feeling accomplished.

We showered and relaxed when we got home, which was much needed!

We went up to the drug store and liquor store to get some things we needed and some drinks.

Dinner & Fire Trucks?

We put our dinner on (baked potatoes) when we got home and sat on the balcony with a beer!

We had a really nice time just relaxing outside, but it started to get a bit windy and cold, so we came back in and luckily, dinner was ready. We ate dinner and watched some TV and then for some reason, there were 4 fire trucks outside as well as 3 fire car things.

We aren’t sure what it was for as it seemed nothing really happened, but a little entertainment for us and it seemed that no-one got hurt which was good!

Place 72 – Day 219: Vancouver, BC – Morning Walk, Stretches & Daily Workout!

Morning Walk

We were up at 07:45 today and went right out for a walk.

We walked for about 30 minutes and then got ready for the day.

Kim did a few stretches when we got back, which really helped her.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a lot of meeting today, starting with his team meeting at 10:30, but he did some admin and tickets before that.

Curtis had some time after that, so helped some people with tickets.

At 12:00, Curtis had a project meeting which was very positive and helpful, followed by a meeting at 13:00 with his team again to discuss a few things that needed to be spoken about.

After that, Curtis had lunch with Kim, some toasties and vegetables, and then in the afternoon he made a Microsoft Forms form to log equipment that people have borrowed and then he had to help someone with a few different issues at the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by working on stuff for when she will be back in the office.

Towards the middle of the day Kim joined a few other colleagues for some Yoga, its one of the things that has bee revived for while everyone working remotely. We have one person share their screen and everyone follows along at home, it was great!

After yoga Kim worked on a one page overview for the winter party in Vancouver. She also took a little time to look into options for the other offices.

After lunch Kim worked on the Vancouver winter party a little more and contacted a venue with some questions!

For the afternoon Kim started to put together a quiz that people will be able to play remotely, but all together!

At the end of the day Kim was joined a team catch up. It was great t see everyone’s faces and see how they are all doing.

Workout

We decided it was probably good to do a workout each day, as we should only really be going outside for a little each day, so we did that after work.

We chucked some music on and found an app which has a 2 week workout plan, which we started.

We think this nearly killed us, but it should do us some good, especially as neither of us can do our regular sports.

We finished that and showered, but Kim did some more stretching.

We relaxed for the rest of the evening, had a tuna baked potato and watched some TV and we played some Need For Speed together!

Place 72 – Day 165: Vancouver, BC – Booking & Planning!

Trip Planning

We had a bit of a lay in which was excellent and exactly what we needed.

We had homemade egg and cheese muffins for breakfast and then we got some things booked.

We have a small weekend trip to come in February, so we had to book a ferry for that, so we got that booked, and then we have a couple of trips coming in the months after that, so we had to book those up.

We called Kim’s parents to speak with them briefly about the plans for the trip as we’re going with them.

We then booked flights for that, so that’s productive!

Coffee & Shopping

We went up to Starbucks and had a coffee before tackling the shopping.

We didn’t have much to buy, but it was quite a few heavy things.

We had to queue for a while in the supermarket and the queue was also very, very long!

We eventually got out of there and came back home, where we did some laundry and a bit more research into places to visit.

Sausage & Mash

We had sausage and mash for dinner! Curtis had pork sausages and Kim had chicken sausages.

We ate that and continued our fairly lazy day into the evening.
