Place 72 – Day 26: Vancouver,BC – What A View

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got on the train and it turned out to be a bit less busy.

It felt like Curtis got to work pretty quickly today!

Once he got in, he grabbed himself a coffee and began working. He had some things to finish off from yesterday, as well as a bit more to learn.

As well as work, Curtis had some admin to get sorted, mostly new starter related items.

Meetings

Curtis had a couple of meetings, the first being a video call with all the IT team so they all met eachother and the second was another IT meeting but this time it was project related.

What A View

Curtis was able to get a photo of the view, which he has right behind him when he is sat at his desk…it shows Canada place and any boats that are there, as well as the seaplanes!

Purchasing

Curtis then got to work and the afternoon was pretty busy. Curtis picked up quite a few tickets and got to work on them, as well as figuring out what to do.

Curtis was then shown how purchasing works and had to get some stuff purchased for the office.

The end of the day came quickly and then Curtis headed to get on the train.

Train

The train wasn’t too packed on the way home, so that made the trip a little less stressful.

Kim’s Day

Kim did a bit less today, but didn’t get a lay in.

Kim took the dog out for a walk and then after the walk she took the train to the shopping mall to look for a work top.

Eventually, Kim was able to find just 1 top and then went to the supermarket.

Our Evening

Kim met Curtis from the train and we walked to the bank to get some banking sorted.

We came home and had a ceasar salad for dinner.

We watched some TV and did a bit of money admin before we went to sleep.

Place 70 – Day 25: Victoria,BC – We Can Live In Canada!

Leaving New Orleans

We were up at 04:00 to get to the airport.

We got a Lyft to the airport and we thought we were there with more than enough time.

We had to go to the desk as we had two separate flights booked and we wanted to get our bags automatically transferred.

We were at the desk for a while and then once were done, we walked around the side to see the incredible size of the security queue…

We were in the queue for an hour which ended up meaning we were unable to get any breakfast as we were boarding.

The flight was 5 hours or so but felt quite long, especially as we were hungry.

We landed in Seattle and it was finally breakfast time, after 8 hours.

Seattle > Victoria

We had 3 hours to kill at Seattle airport before our flight to Victoria, so it was breakfast time.

We got breakfast from McDonald’s, ate that up and relaxed.

We then got a coffee to kill more time and to wake us up before we got onto the second flight, on a small plane.

Work Permits

We arrived in Victoria and knew we needed to get our work permit from the border guards.

We mentioned we wanted a work permit due to our working holiday visa and we were ushered into another room.

We waited for a bit and then were presented with our permits! This was nice and quick and we are now considered residents of Canada and we can work here also.

We left here shortly after and got the bus to directly outside Linda’s place.

Dinner

We went inside and saw Linda before we all went out for some food.

We went to the steamship which we went to previously and both of us had the new york strip with whiskey peppercorn sauce and vegetables. Linda had fish and chips.

Bed Time

We got back and all had a conversation for an hour or two before we all got too tired and headed to bed. We have been up for around 20 hours at this point, so we are exhausted!

We aren’t staying here in Victoria but we are just seeing Linda briefly.

Orlando,FL

Place 81 – Orlando,FL 🇺🇸 – 6 Hour Airport Wait & Reunited

Early Start

We were up at 05:00 but luckily everything was packed and ready to go already, so we didn’t have to worry about that.

We got to the airport with more then enough time and we checked our bags and got to security.

Security took a bit of time but no longer than 15 minutes. We did have to take food out of our bags, though.

Once we got through, Curtis got a coffee and we waited to board the plane.

Austin > Orlando

We boarded the plane and were in the B section this time, so we were hoping we would get to sit together.

Luckily, we did get to sit together, which was a bonus.

The flight was just 2.5 hours, but neither of us felt too great.

We landed and got our bags before finding some seats to chill on.

6 Hour Wait

We waited for 6 hours for Kim’s family to arrive!

We got coffee, Kim napped a bit and we scrolled the internet aimlessly.

Reunion

Kim finally got to reunite with her family and see her sister Abbie for the first time in over 2 years!

We all got to the car rental area and got the car and then off we went.

Florida Home

We have rented an Airbnb for all of us and it is about 1 hour from the airport in the area near Cocoa Beach.

We arrived and were quite tired, but had to go and do a shop. Before we did that, Curtis had a phone interview for a possible job, which only took 10 minutes.

We went for a shop and got enough food for a week or so and then headed back for some dinner.

Dinner

Kim made pulled pork sliders and we had some mac and cheese to go with it, too.

We all finished dinner, cleared up and that was time for bed.

Kim’s family had been up for a while and it was technically 02:00 for them and we had been up since 05:00 with little sleep before that, so bed time it was.

We’ve come to Florida to chill, so we’ll try and do that.

Portland,OR

Place 71 – Day 1: Portland, OR 🇺🇸 – ‘Merca!

Early Morning

It was an early morning start for us, getting the remaining items packed and getting ready.

We skipped breakfast, showered, said goodbye to Linda and walked down to the central bus station to await our bus.

We went to the cafe there and got a cappuccino each. The bus arrived shorty after to take us to the airport.

Flight 1 – Victoria > Seattle

Breakfast

We arrived hassle free at the airport and got checked in.

We went right to Tim Hortons to try out the breakfast. We had a farmer’s wrap each, which was just ‘meh’.

Security

After we relaxed for a bit, we breezed through security, though we did both get ‘randomly’ selected and put through the machine, but of course we had nothing. They also checked out one of our bags!

Waiting

Once we were through security, there was nothing to do but wait. We sat an waited for a few hours and then our plane was delayed for a little, but nothing drastic.

The Flight

We flew with Alaska Airlines, who we have not flown with before so were a little unsure.

The flight itself was great. The plane was tiny, with two chairs on each side of the aisle!

Our Tiny Plane

We had no problems on the flight and, as it was only 25 minutes, we were up in the air and back down again in a flash!

Flight 2 – Seattle > Portland

Customs/Immigration

After landing in Seattle, we had a couple of hours before we had to get on our next plane.

We went through customs/immigration easily and the officer there was incredibly friendly and nice.

Security #2

After that, we had to go through security before transferring and, of course, one of our bags got checked again…

Plane Train

We hopped on the ‘plane train’ to the correct terminal, got a Starbucks coffee, and waited for our flight.

The Flight

This flight was very busy, but it was fairly painless. We did also get a free alcoholic drink, even though it was only a 45 minute flight! Curtis got a beer and Kim a wine, but we had to drink it by the time they came round to get the rubbish!

Alaska Airlines

Rating:- 8/10

Train

We exited the plane and, as we had no checked bags, left the terminal easily.

We walked to the train platform to get a ticket for the train and waited the 10 minutes for it to arrive.

We sat on the train for about 50 minutes before getting off one stop too early and hopping back on just in time to ride the one (long) stop more.

MAX Light Rail | Portland, OR

Price:- $2.50 for 2.5hrs Travel

Accomodation

After the train, it was a short walk to our accomodation. We are in a hostel/guesthouse but we are staying in a private double room (shared bathroom).

The place is certainly nice, but maybe just a little old. It does the job and is pretty comfy!

HI Portland Northwest | Portland, OR

Current Rating:- 7/10

Chipotle

We went out to get a quick dinner, which ended up being burritos from chipotle. We were pretty disappointed.

It was bland and all just fell apart.

It worked for food, but not sure we’d go back.

Chipotle Mexican Grill

Rating:- 2/10

Walk Around Portland

We walked around Portland for a bit, not doing anything in particular, just walking around at night.

We got back and just chilled, watching some TV and catching up on things we haven’t watched. We have also been planning what we will be doing in Portland as we planned to come here for a concert but it was cancelled!

Victoria,BC

Place 70 – Day 1: Victoria,BC 🇨🇦 – Crazy Time Travel

Just before the flight, whilst waiting, we found a whisky tasting station in duty free, so we thought why not!

We got a few shots of whisky to try, mostly expensive whisky, one of which tasted like bacon which we do not recommend.

We eventually got on the flight, which was actually a pretty good and easy flight, though we didn’t sleep we much as we wanted, or really at all!

We watched the film Night School and Kim watched a couple of films whilst Curtis tried to sleep.

We had 2 meals whilst on board. Curtis had chicken tagine with couscous and Kim had pasta bolognese.

We then had breakfast. Curtis had the safe option of museli and Kim had the scrambled eggs which were not good at all.

Once we landed in Vancouver, we had to wait a while whilst other planes got out of the way and then we were able to exit.

We got through customs and immigration pretty quickly, collected our bags and then had to figure out what to do next.

We found the right bus but had to buy a ticket, so we went inside the terminal to get them and then back out onto the bus.

We got the bus to the ferry port and once we got there we changed buses to get into the ferry and across the other side.

We got onto the ferry and grabbed a much deserved cappucino each and relaxed as we sailed across the water.

Once we arrived, we got back on the bus and that took us to Victoria!

Along the way, we saw a car crash happen which is not good!

We got to the Victoria bus station and figured out how we get to where we are staying, which we luckily did.

We are staying with Kim’s great aunty Linda, who we stayed with here on a holiday before. We haven’t been here in winter so we saw excited to see what is on offer!

We had a delicious chicken dinner and chatted with Linda for a while before hopping in the shower after our long journey.

We got into bed which was lovely and comfy and got a couple of outstanding admin tasks completed before heading to bed.

We don’t have much planned just yet, other than getting some sleep!

Auckland

Place 49 – Day 385: Auckland – Final Day in NZ!

We were woken by the construction next door around 09:00. Kim made a coffee and we had that whilst chatting with our host for a while.

After this, we got showered and packed everything up.

We had a plan to watch a film to pass time, so we left our bags and walked down to the shopping centre.

We had some time, so we went to the bank to put the money we got for the car into the bank.

We then went to the cinema, got our food and drink and went to watch Glass. It wasn’t what we were expecting, but it was certainly a great film!

We left the cinema and walked back to the apartment to get our bags. We said goodbye to our host and waited for Danielle and Josh to arrive as they were giving us a lift to the airport.

Once we arrived, they looked after our bags whilst we got changed and then we said goodbye to them and off we went to check in our bags.

The bags were checked easily, via the self service, and then we went to grab some food.

We went to a Japanese place and got sone chicken karaage, a teriyaki pork don & a chicken katsu curry. It was really delicious!

Whilst we ate, Curtis called to cancel his phone number and convert Kim’s to a prepaid so she can still receive texts on it.

Once that was done and we finished eating, we went through security.

Now, we are sitting around waiting for our flight. This is the last day here in New Zealand and its kinda sad to say goodbye to people but we are also so excited for our next destination!

We have a long flight, hence doing the blog so early, and then we drop a lot in temperature, too.

See you on the other side.

Auckland

Place 49 – Day 242: Auckland – More Flying

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis woke up at the same time as Kim which is later then he normally wakes up!

Curtis had to go to Wellington again today, his flight was at 11:50.

Curtis got to the airport and parked (incredibly far away!) and made his way in.

Curtis got through security and then got a coffee. The Cafe was upstairs and his gate was downstairs, so he had to go upstairs to get it and then go a long way (it’s one way up and the opposite way down) to get it, but it was worth it!

Once Curtis was at the gate, he did some work and then boarded the plane.

The flight was pretty bumpy but there were no issues.

Crackin’ Views From The Plane

Curtis got to the client and had a list of things to complete, which he did.

Curtis was at the client for 2.5 hours when he then left to go to the airport.

Curtis left a bit later then he wanted due to work but was still there with more than enough time.

At the airport, there was a pop-up craft beer bar which Curtis took advantage of and got a very nice Pilsner from.

Curtis got on the plane and had another bumpy flight but it went pretty quick.

Great_View_Dark_Auckland_NewZealand
Pretty good view on the way home too!

Curtis got to his car at the airport and had a fairly swift drive home.

Both of us;

Kim went to the gym directly after work.

When Curtis got home, Kim was home and we had some dinner (leftover risotto).

Kim went out to see Tabitha at a chocolate cafe and had the chocolate smores cake again, which is still delicious!
