Place 72 – Day 159: Vancouver, BC – All The Pies v2

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was very organised and busy today!

He really planned out his day and it seemed to pay off.

He did a lot of project work but filled in the gaps with tickets.

As the main part of the migration is getting closer, the work is becoming less and less, which is great! Most of it is simple administration and preparation work and answering people’s questions.

Curtis worked solidly until 16:00 when he went and joined his colleagues for some drinks. He didn’t get to do this last week, so he made sure to make time for it today.

Kim’s Day

The first thing Kim did today was head across the road to pick up the rest of the pies (all the non dietary requirement pies).

While she was there Kim also picked up a hot chocolate and pain au chocolate for herself because she doesn’t feel to well, Kim has a bit of a cold.

When she got back to the office Kim saw a message that someone had bought their cat in so she went and said hello to the cat. She then went back to taking calls and saving invoices.

Kim greeted someone who came in for an interview and they had a nice chat. Once she went through into the interview Kim made her lunch and called home.to have a chat with her mum and sister. It was so nice.

After lunch Kim set up all the pies and most people in the office came and had pie and hung out for a little while.
After pie Kim had a little 1 2 1 with her manager and they had a nice catch up which was great.

Shortly after the 1 2 1 Kim set up the weekly drinks before helping someone move the boxes of swag that was lying around.

Unlocked?!

We got home and our apartment door was unlocked but with no one inside!

We had said that the maintenance guy could go in and do a few things for us, but had assumed the apartment would have been locked after! Luckily everything was safe and we ironed out what happened afterwards.

After that, we relaxed for a bit and then Kim went out to meet a colleague to give her some things she needed for a personal project. Kim also walked her colleague to a few places she needed to visit whilst she was in the area.

Kim got back home and we had the remainder of the pie with some mash and garlic mushrooms which was delicious. We watched another vlog from the Iceland trip we have been watching and then it was pretty much bed time as we are exhausted!

Place 72 – Day 158: Vancouver, BC – A Day Of Pies!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and his first task was to look into the floor plan of the office and see if there was anything obvious that would indicate an power coming from another floor.

There is apparently another floor doing work and they want to unplug something, but it says it links down to the floor Curtis works on.

Unfortunately, it couldn’t be found, so he has to speak with the building management to see if they know anything about it.

Curtis’ team had their quick daily meeting and then all split to work.

Someone at Curtis’ office made mini pumpkin pies, so Curtis had one…it was delicious!

Curtis continued the day with a few tickets and then had some questions to answer about his project.

Once he answered them, this caused a lot more work for the project, so Curtis spent the rest of the day dealing with that!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by ordering pies! Its Thanksgiving this weekend so Kim sourced some pies from a couple of supermarkets, the dairy free pie Kim will pick up in the evening from a supermarket up the road.

As it is Kims sisters birthday she had to call to say happy birthday, but her family were on the way to dinner so they arranged to chat a little later in the day.
Kim then spent a fair amount of time on calls and organising invoices again. When the pizza arrived Kim sorted out plates and napkins to go with it.

In the afternoon Kim ended up in back to back meetings. Her first meeting was with her teammate and they discussed budgets and other social events outside of the holiday parties. They both then went into a meeting with a vendor to discuss the plan going forward and this went very well.

After thay meeting they caught up again and Kims teammate taught Kim how to use the different ways to expense things.

After this kim had another quick 5 minute call with her sister before she headed to bed.

After that call Kim had a quick training session on how to upload the monthly social talks for people to see them. That was a great lesson because Kim forgot to find our before she took it all on!

At some point during the day a stationary delivery came so Kim put all the new whiteboard wipes into all of the meeting rooms. She then caught up on emails and headed home.

All The Pies!

We got home and Curtis watched the remainder of the Leafs game and Kim wasn’t feeling too good, so she had a lay down.

After that, we walked up to Whole Foods where Kim needed to collect a vegan pumpkin pie for work as well as 2 more, smaller, pies.

Once we got those, we walked back home and were very cold! We got in and each had some leftover beef and ale pie with mashed potato, to complete all the pies of today.

We watched two, 1 hour, YouTube videos about a trip to Iceland and it reminded us of when we went and loved it so much. Its actually where we got engaged, too!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had training right when he got to work. Coffee was the priority as it was a cold morning today!

Curtis’ training went well, though he wasn’t too sure if it will be beneficial to his team, but we shall see.

Curtis got his admin done after this and the rest of the day was a little manic.

Curtis got some further questions and issues regarding his project, which he had to work on.

There were a few people that asked for some help so he helped them and did some standard tickets, as well as had some conversations with colleagues around policies and procedures.

Once Curtis got home from work, the handyman was still in our apartment doing a few things.

Kim’s Day

Kim’s day today had no meetings at all and she spent a fair amount of it on incoming calls and doing little ad hoc tasks.

The first thing Kim sorted was a pizza order for today and she also placed the regular weekly pizza order for tomorrow at the same time. After this Kim then laminated some new signs for the kitchen and everyone’s first aid attendant cards – better late than never!

While Kim was putting the signs up someone asked if she was coming to a meeting and it turns out Kim had completely lost track of time and was due to be in a meeting shortly so she packed away and grabbed her laptop and went into the meeting.

The social meeting was discussing much of the same that we had for the past few weeks, Diwali and Halloween. We have also decided to do pie and ice cream this Friday for Canadian Thanksgiving!

After the meeting Kim finished putting up the newly laminated signs. When the pizza arrived it was the wrong order, they had sent tomorrows order today, which was not ideal, so Kim arranged for the correct pizzas to be delivered and received a credit on the account and 4 random free pizzas!

To start the afternoon Kim hung up a first aid kit in the kitchen, it seems like the place most injuries would occur. Someone was very surprised to see Kim screwing in a nail and even offered to help and didn’t believe Kim when she said that she had done this kind of thing many times before!

The rest of the afternoon was spent saving invoices answering sales calls!

New Blinds & Towel Rack

The handyman finished off a few things in our apartment and we have some improvements!

We now have a nicer set of (horizontal) blinds in the living room as well as a towel rack in the bathroom as the other one we had fell off the wall.

The bedroom blinds are up, but they have gaps around the side, so the handyman will be popping back to screw some wood into that area.

Kim’s Training

Kims first lesson today was hard. She did some tricky moves but they could be of great use in Kim’s upcoming routine, so that was great!

After this Kim walked home and spent 10 minutes there before heading to her second lesson.

This is a great lesson where they learned a step up from a move Kim loves. This will not make it into the routine but it was a pretty move. There was also a simple and effective looking spin that requires a lot of energy, for it to work you have to be completely engaged from your shoulders to toes, its beautiful but tricky.

Kim then asked if the lesson after had any spaces and a few people had dropped out so Kim hung around and joined in on that class too. The routine for this class was very spin orientated and Kim was totally unable to get the trick as she does not have enough flexibility, she did enjoy the class though!

Curtis put the pie top on the filling whilst Kim was out and cooked it, but it seemed to collapse a little but still looked (and tasted) delicious.

Kim got back and we watched The Appentice and then went to sleep!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work at the perfect time and was told that there was a fire in the building next door!

Luckily, Curtis didn’t have to evacuate, but the sirens and alarms could be heard for a while.

Curtis did a lot of the same as he did yesterday, but also had a few tickets that came in, right after he cleared most of his out!

The afternoon was the busiest part of the day, with many a ticket to get stuck into and a couple more challenging then normal.

Curtis left the office after work and walked home.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim had a fair few productive meetings! Her first meeting was relatively early in the morning was with her colleague and they discussed the holiday party invites and a little bit about travel. It was a short and sweet meeting.

After this meeting Kim had a meeting with finance about credit cards and they ironed out some of the processes and that meeting went well.

Kim then had some time to catch up on emails when someone from a stationary company came in and said he had a meeting with her too! It turned out that he had the wrong email address so all Kim knew was that he might be coming in at some point in the afternoon.

Kim grabbed her colleague and they had an interesting meeting.

After this is was suddenly 13:30, Kim and her colleague were so hungry so they went and grabbed crepes by using a discount and had a little sit down and catch up over lunch.

After lunch Kim spent most of her afternoon sorting out the first aid cupboard with 2 and then one other first aider. Kim had to nip out a few time to greet a candidate and organise some travel.

It was a really productive day, but it felt like Kim didn’t stop for a second!

Ale Hunt

Curtis got home before Kim, so he did the cleaning, vacuuming etc and took out all the bins.

When Kim got back home, she made a stew which was then bound to become a pie! She needed ale for this, so Curtis went to find some.

The liquor store didn’t have really any, so much so that Curtis had to hunt the lone bottle of ale down! It’s a 9% beer, too!

Kim finished off the dinner and Curtis had some as a stew as the pie won’t be constructed until tomorrow.

Kim’s training session was good fun.

Kim was able to try out a replacement combo for her routine, its her favourite combo so she is glad to get it put in!

She did also fall off and it would have been onto her head but luckily she got her arms up quick!

Sleep In

We got to sleep in and got a great 8 or so hours of sleep last night.

The bed we have in the hotel is incredibly comfortable so it was hard to get up!

In case you did not see yesterday, it turns out the room is a suite, with a living area, dining table and small kitchenette, so lots of room.

Breakfast

We headed downstairs for our free breakfast, which we got to for around 10:30, 30 minutes before it closed.

There was a buffet and Kim was even able to make pancakes!

Along with waffles, we had bacon, eggs, sausage, coffee, juice, fruit, cereal, toast & pastries available to us!

We finished up breakfast and headed back to the room.

The Relaxing

We did very little during the first part of the day. We watched some TV in bed and just completely relaxed.

Laundry

We went to a laundromat and got our clothes washed before walking back to the hotel and hanging them up to dry.

Curtis then watched hockey for a bit whilst Kim walked to Linda to meet her and bring her to our hotel.

Dinner

We went downstairs to the pub attached to our hotel for dinner.

Curtis had a chicken pot pie and Kim had a turkey roast. Both meals were pretty good, but nothing incredible.

Warming Up

After dinner, we walked Linda back to her place and went in to warm up and chat some more. We were there for a good amount of time and then braved the cold again.

We went to get ice cream and some drinks from the shop just down the road and then went back to the hotel room.

Lego Movie & TV

We settled in and watched the logo movie with ice cream and then watched some TV for the whole evening…It was perfect!

Place 49 – Day 365: Auckland – Belgian Cafe Dinner, Mini Christmas Market Walk & 1 Year in NZ!

After waking up at a similar time as yesterday, Kim went out to McDonald’s to get a breakfaost from there and we sat and watched videos in bed for a while. The perfect Sunday morning.

Kim went out early afternoon to see if Danielle’s mum had any shoes she could borrow for the last week of work. Turns out that she didn’t, but Kim still got to see Danielle and even went for a milkshake!

Today, it is apparently 1 year since we arrived in New Zealand, which is odd because we arrived on the 18th, not the 16th!

Once Kim was back, we waited for a bit and then we drove down to the city to meet Colten and Sarah at a Belgian cafe/pub.

The Belgian cafe is somewhere we’ve walked past a few times and really wanted to go in, so we’re glad we got to go! This place does remind us of Europe.

We had to wait a little for a table, but Colten & Sarah hadn’t arrived yet either. There were way too many beers to choose from, but the food looked incredible!

Once we got a table, it was time to order! Curtis got the Venison Pie which had a cinnamon gravy and Kim got the lamb shoulder. Curtis’ was tasty but the peas and carrots were cold. He’d give his 6/10. Kim’s was OK but a lot of fat and just nothing special, she gave it 5/10.

After we finished up there, we went for a walk to the Sky Tower where there was a small christmas market.

Curtis and Colten got a coffee each and Kim got a chocolate sundae from McDonald’s. Colten and Sarah got their portrait drawn and we had a bit of a walk around.

We had a chat for a bit and then it was home time. We walked back to the cars, said goodbye and went home.

We got home and Kim had a chat with her mum and dad before we went to sleep.

Palmerston North

Place 55 – Day 1: Palmerston North – The Start, Mountains & Snow!

We woke up at 07:30 and Kim had to go to work for an hour.

Once Kim was done with work, she got home and got ready for the rest of the day.

Curtis’ family were meeting us at our place. Once they arrived, we chucked our bags in the taxi and then got ourselves into the taxi and drove to near the airport to pickup a campervan!

After having to wait for over an hour, we finally got our campervan. We were given a quick tour and provided information then we were off! Gareth drove all day, which was very kind of him.

We got onto the motorway and headed towards Taupo for our first stop.

We had to stop a little earlier then planned as we needed to get some food.

We stopped in a small town called Cambridge. We just stopped at a BP garage and got some food. We had sandwiches and pies as well as a drink and some coffee!

After being well fuelled up, we drove on to Taupo.

Once we got to Taupo, we went straight to Huka Falls. These are some beautiful waterfalls.

Once we left here, we made our way towards our final destination of the day, Palmerston North.

This leg of the trip was absolutely beautiful! We had mountains, alpaca, sheep, cows and snow to look at!

Once we got into the mountains, the temperature dropped down to 0.5°C! Due to this, everyone in the back got under blankets to keep warm.

As it became dark, the sleet came and then so did the snow! Luckily, this ended fairly quickly, but we were still driving through the middle of no where in the mountains.

Kim took over driving for the last hour or so.

At 20:30 we arrived in Palmerston North after we’d been driving since about 12:00!

We planned to stay at a campervan site and make a spaghetti bolognese…which didn’t happen!

The website said it closed at 21:00 but we got there at 20:30 and it was closed! No one was answering the phone either so we had to figure out what to do.

We found a hotel/motel to stay in and went to their restaurant for a quick bit to eat before sleeping!

We have an early start tomorrow and a little bit more driving!

Place 49 – Day 221: Auckland – An Amazing Pie!

Curtis’ Day;

Nothing too crazy happened today for Curtis.

Curtis had a slow morning but got a lot of team admin work done, which was useful.

Midway through the morning, there were a few cases that Curtis had to deal with and then it got hectic!

After spending two hours trying to figure something out yesterday, Curtis continued with the help of his colleagues, but didn’t get anywhere which was frustrating.

After lunch, Curtis had a few things to do but nothing crazy until he needed to get into multiple machines to put some software on them. After that it was was time to drive home.

The drive home was busy, but Curtis still got home at normal time.

Both of us;

Kim stopped off at the shop on the way home to get some food.

We wanted to make a pie, so we had a minced beef, mushrooms, onion and garlic pie with mashed potato on top as the lid. It was excellent!

Once we ate that, Curtis cleaned up and Kim showered. Kim then baked some lemon cakes (some were lemon and coconut!) and watched Love Island with Nicola.
