Place 72 – Day 985: Vancouver, BC – ‘Return To Office’ Planning Again

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a slightly less busy day today, though still busy enough!

He did some tickets and then did an onboard for a contractor which seemed to take a while to do.

Curtis then had a quick meeting about return to office things and a further discussion came from that.

The rest of the day was tickets and also Curtis changed someone’s name on all systems, which took some time but had no issues, which was excellent news.

Kim’s Day

Kim had another interview heavy day, she started with an interview then joined a biweekly meeting to discuss projects and other really interesting things. Kim took a quick call to help someone with an IT issue and then had a 15 min sit down with the other people in the interview to have a chat.

It was then time for interview number 2! She had another chat with a candidate and then ended up being late to the weekly department meeting. She gave her update and listened into what the other departments are doing. She then joined a recruitment meeting to discuss the status of a bunch of live roles.

In the afternoon Kim had interview 3 and 4 and their reviews before having a chat with a couple of the executive team to discuss how their interview went. Then to finish the day Kim joined another recruitment meeting to discuss next steps for a role and review the candidates

Evening

Curtis had some pasta for dinner and when Kim got home, we had a bit of time together and watched some TV. Yesterday, Kim ended up working quite a bit in the evening, so it was nice to get some relaxing time together.

Place 72 – Day 955: Vancouver, BC – Fancy HR Work!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went right to the office once he was ready as he needed to setup and send out some IT equipment for a new starter.

Curtis got that all setup and ready to go pretty quickly, so he headed home and stopped off to get us both coffee!

Once he got home, Curtis found out about a new project to get done, which is nice, and then he did some admin and tickets up until lunch.

After lunch, Curtis got started with the project, but it was mostly research. He also had some tickets to get done so he did those as well as some other admin.

Kim’s Day

To start her day Kim placed an order for some items that are needed and then she joined a meeting to discuss the structure of interviews. Everyone took a small break before the interview to find out it had been rescheduled! Instead of the interview Kim and her teammate had a meeting with another hiring manager to update and finalise a couple of job descriptions before they went live.

Kim then took some time to fix an IT issue, which was a huge win, before having a check in with a new employee to see how things are going. She then joined the finance meeting to give a quick update and iron a few things out.

In the early afternoon Kim cancelled a recruitment meeting as there was no new information to bring to everyone. Instead, Kim had a call with her teammate to check in and see how they are doing and make sure they have everything set up that they need for the next couple of months. She then had a quick call with her manager to sort out a few things.

In the middle of the afternoon Kim had a donut date with a wonderful colleague where they just caught up and hung out, it was so lovely! She finished the afternoon by sorting out some admin and then joining a meeting to discuss a vendor.

In the evening Kim joined a meeting to discuss some questions about contracts and HR paperwork in general. It was a super interesting and productive way to end the day.

Kim went to pole in the evening and stayed for an extra session after as she was really enjoying it! She didn’t feel that she was doing that well, but she was having fun, which is the main thing!

Evening

Kim got back from pole and we had some mushroom pasta and chilled out for the evening. We went to bed earlylier than normal yesterday, so we made up for it by staying up a little bit later tonight.

Place 72 – Day 917: Vancouver, BC – Yet Another Game & New Tables

Hockey, Family Chat & Haircut

Curtis stayed awake until 04:30 and watched Great Britain lose pretty heavily to Czech Republic. Great Britain were tired and it was very obvious.

After waking up this morning, Kim had a chat with her family and Curtis went out to get his haircut.

Curtis’ barber, who has done a great job, is heading back to live in his home country, Australia, so it was the final cut before he leaves.

Kim spoke with her family the entire time Curtis was at his haircut and then once she was done, we went for a walk.

We got Vietnamese coffee and a duck banh mi which was alright.

We had our walk and once we got back home, Curtis watched hockey. The leafs lost, yet again, so they have just the one game remaining to get into the next round of the playoffs.

Kim watched a bit of TV whilst Curtis watched hockey and she did some admin.

We had leftover pasta for dinner an then we went out to get a couple of side tables that Kim found on Facebook. These are much nicer for our living room!

We then went to get a milkshake from McDonald’s and came to to relax for the evening, but then we had a long night walk!

Place 72 – Day 915: Vancouver, BC – Close, But Not Quite!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had some messages to deal with in the morning and then he had a training session ran by one of his colleagues.

He had a few tickets to get done, one of which took a while but he worked through it with someone on a Zoom call and got it sorted.

There were a few discussions about a couple of different things that Curtis had throughout the day and then the afternoon was dominated with getting some policies up to date and making changes to those.

It was hockey time once again this evening!

Curtis watched the Leafs game, in which the Leafs were able to get through to the 2nd round of the playoffs! The game didn’t start great, with the Leafs being down 3-0, but they got into overtime after getting 3 goals to tie it! The Leafs were so close, but unfortunately they lost in overtime, so there’s another game on Saturday.

Kim’s Day

Kim’s day was a little less busy today, she still had time to get lots of admin done in the morning. She then went into an interview and had a quick chat after to discuss next steps. She then joined the weekly manager’s meeting to give and update and see where she can be supporting other teams.

She spent the last bit of the morning packaging up laptops to be sent out. After that she joined the weekly recruitment meeting and then she spent some time on some planning and admin.

Kim spent most of the afternoon working collaboratively with her teammate, she took a break to have a chat with a colleague. Then she also managed to order a couple of laptops and start organising the orders for the home office equipment.

In the evening Kim prepared for next week and set up a laptop for the final new starter of next week.

Evening

Curtis made Italian style tomato pasta with chicken, mushrooms and red onion for dinner. We ate that and relaxed for the evening, though Kim did get a little work done.

We had a nice late evening walk, too, which was needed.

Place 72 – Day 891: Vancouver, BC – Day Off, Kinda

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a nice slow start to the day and then it ramped right up with a lot of tickets coming in.

Curtis had a team meeting at 10:30 and then continued with getting many tickets done, up until lunch.

The afternoon was much of the same, though there were also some discussions about different topics which were both interesting and important.

Curtis watched hockey whilst Kim was in her evening meeting.

Kim’s Day

This week Kim’s company is off, so there are no meetings or expectations. She, and a couple of others, have decided to continue to do interviews to not hold up the recruitment process.

Kim had one interview in the late morning then she popped out to update the car insurance and pick up sandwiches for lunch.

In the afternoon Kim had another interview and then reviewed candidates in the pipeline for a couple of the roles that are open.

It was a fun and lazy day!

Evening

We had tuna pasta for dinner as well as some leftover potato salad.

We then, after relaxing for a little bit, headed to the supermarket as we hadn’t yet done it over the weekend!

We got our items and headed home, getting back around 22:00. A late shop visit for sure, but there weren’t many people around, which was great.

We watched some TV and relaxed for the remainder of the night.

Place 72 – Day 865: Vancouver, BC – Viewing Is Cancelled

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was meant to have a meeting at 09:30 but that was cancelled, so he had a bit of time to get some tickets completed.

He used that time to find and order 8 tablets that were required. It took some time to find some at a good price that were not sold out, but he was eventually able to find some and get them ordered.

That took up a good hour of his morning and then he had a 30 minute team meeting.

He did some more tickets and then had a team discussion about a project for 1 hour before having some food.

After lunch, it was mostly just tickets but he did have a short team meeting, too, to discuss some random points.

Kim’s Day

In the morning Kim was able to get a fair bit of admin done. She was able to organise meetings, send emails and complete some paperwork. She then had a phone screen interview. After that she worked with a teammate on a few tasks before heading into a team meeting.

In the afternoon Kim worked with her teammate again to go through some paperwork and then Kim joined a post interview chat to discuss a couple of candidates. She then hosted another marketing meeting which was so interesting and some great progress has been made. She ended the day by getting more paperwork and admin done.

Evening

The viewing that was meant to happen here at our apartment was cancelled, so we had our evening to ourselves.

Curtis watched hockey and Kim used the time to have a nice nap which she felt much better after.

We made some cheese and pesto pasta for dinner and just hung out for the rest of the evening. We’re getting closer and closer to moving!

Place 72 – Day 580: Vancouver, BC – Fixing A Toilet

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went right to the office when he was ready so he could get a laptop setup and equipment sent out.

It took very little time to get the equipment together as the person didn’t want too much, but it did take time to get the laptop setup, but was able to do that and get home for around 12:15.

Once he was home, he was being asked some questions about how to do something so he had to take a look at how to do that and then it was lunch time.

After lunch, Curtis had some more tickets to do as well as an offboard which ended up taking a while.

During this time, we had a plumber come and replace a seal on the toilet. The new owner of the apartment found out that others in the building are having an issue with the toilet seals, so they thought it would be best to get it replaced.

Once that was done, Curtis finished up the offboard and was done for the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a busy day today! She started with a HR heavy morning with an interview, meeting about recruitment and onboarding a new starter. She then presented at the weekly meeting too.

The busy morning continued with a project meeting and then a surprise meeting with another colleague after where they went over a few things they have been working on.

In the afternoon Kim had many more meeting from a catch up with a teammate, a call with IT and a call with a couple of the executive team to discuss some projects. To finish the day Kim worked on contracts, job descriptions and reviewing candidates.

Evening

We sat and ate some chicken pasta fairly late into the evening and we watched ourselves some more Drive To Survive. We’re close to finishing the most recent season which is a shame!

We watched some other TV and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 567: Vancouver, BC – Watch Your Face!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got ready and went right to the office to get a laptop setup for someone and their equipment setup.

All went well, except for when he tried to get a monitor from the monitor arm and it moved and hit him quite hard in the face…It was quite painful, actually, but no real damage done.

Curtis got everything setup and ready to send out and also called up the courier to make sure that the pickup was setup correctly as the last time he did it, he did it wrong and had to had deliver it.

Once he was done at the office, Curtis walked home with a stop off at Starbucks to get us both a coffee.

When he got home, Curtis was informed of an offboard so had to do some admin for that as well as a few tickets that came in.

The afternoon was much of the same and then at the end of it, Curtis did some more Norwegian homework.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent the morning scheduling and organising meetings. Someone once said that scheduling is like playing Tetris and Kim really agrees!

In the middle of the morning Kim had a catch up with a teammate and they discussed a guide that they had been working on together. They also went over a few other projects that have been going on and are coming up. She then placed an order for some things before calling her colleague and writing a LinkedIn post with their help and input.

In the afternoon Kim attended a few meetings. The first was a marketing meeting, the second was a catch up with a colleague. She then went into some training for the applicant tracking system and had a chat in regards to how some things work.

Kim then had a call with her colleague to go over the guide. She went to test it by following along and realised it didn’t match up with what she experienced. So they had to redo a lot of the guide to include both versions of what might happen. It was a lot of glaring at a screen and tweaking formatting to make it perfect, but they got there in the end!

Evening

Kim made a pasta bake for dinner which was a spur of the moment thing using leftovers but it was delicious!

We took the recycling down and grabbed the boxes for moving from the car so we could start putting stuff we aren’t using into them as we go.

We then went out for a walk after we did this as Kim fancied one.

We then just relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 565: Vancouver, BC – The Results Are In…

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a team meeting and then had a strange issue to contend with which took up a lot of the morning.

Curtis had a good meeting about compensation, which was positive, and then did a bit more work before lunch.

After lunch, Curtis had to do some tickets and then some policy work. He had to rework his policy breach reporting setup and also make a guide for how that works, why it’s in place as well as a few other things.

That took him right to the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim had a lot of small meetings throughout the day and she worked on a few guides. In the morning Kim focused on the HR guides she has been working on. She also had two individual meetings with her teammates and then had a whole team meeting at midday. In that meeting she decided that there will be a department meeting on Monday mornings and reduce the 1-1s down a little as it was a lot of repeated information.

In the afternoon Kim worked on IT guides and had a call with IT in regards to things going on for the week. They also went through a guide and tested a few things.

In the middle of the afternoon Kim worked with a teammate to finalise the results of a survey. Then to finish the day Kim tackled some other HR stuff that she hadn’t gotten around to just yet.

Evening

We had a bit of a lay down after work, because why not, and then we made some chicken with a Chinese style sauce and pasta with mushrooms and spring onion.

We ate that and watched some TV together and then played some games as well as some more TV.

Place 72 – Day 524: Vancouver, BC – Many Packages

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had an onboard to complete in the morning, so he did just that, and then after that he had a meeting to kick off a project and get a bit more clarity around it.

Curtis the did more tickets and had some lunch.

Right after lunch it was time for another meeting, this time about an ongoing project and to get a document created. That went really well and the document is pretty much complete!

Curtis did a bunch of tickets in the afternoon and then he went to pickup a package for Kim.

Once he got the package, he checked the mail and there was another slip for a package. He went out to get that one too, but it wasn’t at the collection point yet, so he came home.

Curtis played some games and then hockey was on so he watched that.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim sent off more paperwork to new starters and then joined the weekly company meeting. She gave another update about all the things going in within the department.

Shortly after that meeting she had a call with a hiring manager to discuss and help with their job posting. Then in the early afternoon Kim had a catch up with her colleague to go over a few things.

Later in the afternoon Kim set up the laptop Curtis collected for her and she filled in some information for another project.

Evening

We ate some dinner whilst hockey was on. We had leftover pasta which Kim added a few things to.

Kim watched the new Cinderella film whilst Curtis watched hockey.

After that, we watched some TV and relaxed together.
