Place 72 – Day 212: Vancouver, BC – Charity Laptop Auction

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and had to fight with him Outlook just to get it to work, which took up about 15 minutes of his morning!

After that, he started setting up a new user that will be based in Denver. This also included setting up the laptop remotely, so that took quite a bit of the day.

Curtis’ whole team had a meeting with a vendor to get onboarded onto the software which the team are making a switch to.

After that meeting, Curtis was asked a lot of questions regarding the charity laptop auction that started yesterday.

Curtis’ company is allowing people that work at the company to bid on old, unneeded laptops in a silent auction, with the proceeds going to charity. Due to this, Curtis had to answer a whole host of questions about it.

Curtis’ afternoon was filled with the tickets he was unable to get to, as well as helping people with their migration as they hadn’t done it yet, but it’s due tomorrow!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by putting together a final fridge clean out of the year, it was a very silly sign and she is very proud of it.

Kim then went to the post office to send a letter quickly, it was great to get out of the office in the morning. When she got back she arranged catering for a colleague to arrive on Friday.

Kim then spent a while fixing up some forms. She took one apart and made it into 2 forms, making each form easier to process and read. She also updated the internal website with these forms so they are nice and easy to find!

It was then suddenly 2pm so Kim nipped out to grab some lunch, as Curtis said he was having mexican Kim decided she wanted tacos too, so she popped to tacofino and had some lunch!

After lunch Kim cut up the melon for slices and also made a fruit salad. She then spent the rest of the afternoon chasing things and adding to the holiday party decorations, they are coming together nicely now!

Helping at Pole & Hockey

Kim went right from work and took the train back home to get the car.

Kim was helping out at pole dancing today, again, so she drove out there to help.

Curtis got his gear ready for hockey and then when Kim was done and got back, we went right to the rink.

Kim went to Winners whilst Curtis got changed and bought herself a dress!

Curtis’ hockey game was another close one, with back and forth goals!

Curtis’ line got the 1-1 equaliser and then his team got the 2-1 goal!

The other team tied it and then scored with 2 minutes remaining to make it 3-2.

Curtis’ team pushed and also pulled the goalie for an extra skater, but were not able to get that extra goal.

Certainly a fun one!

Place 72 – Day 137: Vancouver, BC – A Card Tower

Curtis’ Day

Curtis wanted a break from doing the guides he spent all day doing yesterday, so he made an effort to not do any!

Instead, Curtis spent most of the day just setting up accounts and laptops for 2 new people that start on Monday.

After lunch, at 15:30 after his meeting, Curtis had a challenge to complete – building a tower from a pack of cards.

The rules were simple. Only the cards and box can be used.

Curtis was on a team with 2 others and they thought of the idea to bend the cards to use them as a structure, which is what they did.

Everyone started to follow suit but in the end, after some drama of the ‘judge’ accidentally knocking down another tower, Curtis’ team won and got tickets to do an escape room!

Curtis setup desks for the new people and completed a couple of tickets at the end of the day and then left to meet Kim and walk home.

Kim’s Day

When Kim got in she remembered that she had some fruit from the catering in the fridge, so she chopped up some more and made a nice little fruit salad. Kim then turned her attention to the drinks fridge and restocked that.

When she got back to her desk is was time to save more of the invoices. She is making good progress, but gets interrupted by the phone and other emails which disturbs the flow!

As two people were leaving to pick up their lunch they invited Kim along so she went for a nice walk with them to the shop. When they got back they all sat down for some lunch. It was so nice.

After lunch Kim took some time to rearrange her calendar for next week and warning people of thw big meeting room cleanout taking place tomorrow. She then continued on with the invoices.

Kim arranged a meeting with a colleague so she could help Kim figure out what should and shouldn’t be kept from behind at reception. She went through and organised it in to piles and then they quickly went through it together and Kim managed to organise paperwork and throw a whole lot out.

The last bit of the afternoon was continuing on with the invoices.

Back To Silks

We actually walked home together today, which is the first time in a while as Kim didn’t have to stay late.

We got home and watched some YouTube whilst Curtis had some thai curry for dinner.

Once Kim left to go to Silks, Curtis played the new Call of Duty beta!

Kim drove out to Richmond and had an open silks practice session. It felt like Kim has no muscle mass in comparison to when she left.

Kim was able to climb okay but her invert and combo moves were gross!
As a result of this, when kim got home, she went straight to the gym to focus on legs, core and flexibility. Hopefully that will help!

Kim got home and we watched some more TV and then went to sleep.

We can’t believe its Friday already!

Place 72 – Day 117: Vancouver, BC – Lunchtime ‘Taco Friday’

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was busy right from 08:50-16:10 today.

Right from the get go, Curtis had some things planned and ready to get done.

He had to complete the cloning he did yesterday, which worked perfectly overnight.

He then helped someone having issues with Outlook on their new laptop. After this, he did some IT security work and then had to test the boardroom for a big meeting to ensure it was working and setup as required.

Once Curtis was done with that, he helped someone start a complicated purchase process and then began an onboarding!

A new person starts Tuesday, so Curtis had to get everything sorted out for them. (Monday is a day off in Canada)

Curtis took about 1.5 hours to setup their accounts and information, all whilst completing tickets and answering questions.

Taco Friday

Taco Friday is a ‘thing’ that people do in Scandinavia, for some reason, and we aren’t opposed!

We also do it from time to time, but this time it was for lunch.

We were lazy and couldn’t be bothered to make lunch, so we went do to Tacofino to have some tacos.

Kim got 2 chicken tacos and Curtis got 2 beef tacos. These were incredible. Spicy yet sweet yet meaty. Amazing!

We weren’t there long and then we had to walk back to our respective offices, but it was really nice to catch up briefly.

Curtis’ Afternoon

Curtis’ afternoon was just as busy as hi morning.

Along with doing tickets, Curtis had to setup a new laptop for the new person starting, as well as setup their desk and ensure it works.

After that, Curtis helped someone setup a couple of programs on their laptop and then he was able to get the fnal thing he needed to get done before having a drink with some people in the office.

It’s been a busy couple of days but he’s enjoyed it!

Kim’s Day

Kim spent a lot of her morning changing travel plans for 2 people. For one Kim had to change the 1 day trip for a visitor to the Ontario office. She also had to change a new starters return trip back to the UK, moving his flight to a week early and with a stop off in the states.
Kim also spent some time looking into the catering of large meetings going on the week after next.
Curtis and Kim had planned to meet up for lunch so she headed out to meet him.
Kim spent more time in the afternoon on the travel changes and finally started to get things approved and changed, which was great.
As we have a new starter in our UK office who is visiting at the moment Kim arranged to sort his business cards out while he is here. She added the info and sent it across for approval.
Kim then placed the order for the weekly shop to be delivered on the Tuesday for next week as it is a bank holiday on Monday!
As it is Friday Kim then went out to pick up the wine and beer for the Friday afternoon drinks.
When she got back it was time to set up the drinks and snacks for people to enjoy. Kim joined for a while and had a nice chat to 2 people over from the UK office before realising that she hadn’t sent across the business cards to be printed so she ran back to sort that. She then went back to join for a while longer before heading home!

Lazy Pizza Evening

We got home and Curtis played games for about two hours, some how, whilst Kim lay on the bed relaxing.

We finally decided to do something, so we watched a YouTube video and then had a frozen pizza for dinner as we had a big lunch, so we didn’t need anything bigger.

Place 72 – Day 68: Vancouver, BC – Team Doughnuts & Ice Skates!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting booked in for 09:00 but when he joined no-one was there. He spoke with everyone and they rearranged it to 30 minutes later but even then it didn’t happen, so Curtis didn’t bother.

Most of Curtis’ morning was taken up with 2 onboards and setting up their laptops. Once they were done, Curtis had a team meeting but unfortunately this ran over through lunch and Curtis didn’t eat until 14:00! Luckily, the meeting was very useful and a lot of good points were brought up.

The afternoon consisted of Curtis finishing the laptops and then trying to get a Mac to update and then he can use that to create a bootable USB which will be useful for Mac devices.

Curtis left the office around 16:45 and met Kim on the walk home.

Kim’s Day

Kim got into work and helped set up the meeting room on the roof. She first had to find the AV kit for the room, once she found that she took the kit and a fruit bowl up to the room so their meeting could get underway.

Then Kim spent some time organising some aspects of her ongoing project. She had to fix some links that had broken and took some time to see how the other teams were progressing.

Someone then mentioned to Kim that a person needed catering for the lunch that was being held today so Kim arranged to pop to the shop to pick them up a salad. Just before she left someone else mentioned that the fridges had no milk alternatives so Kim made a trip of it and headed out to the shop to pick everything up. As she walked out it was absolutely pouring with rain!

The side of the road Kim was on had no covers beyond a certain point so kim dashed across the road where there were covers the while way back to the building. It just so happened that the dash across the road put kim right at the front doors of a Tims, so of course Kim went in, picked a doughnut for herself and Curtis and then 4 random ones for friends at work! She then did a brisk walk back under the shelter out of the rain.

When she got back from her little jolly outside Kim started setting up the catering for the lunches. Once the actual food arrived, Kim loaded it on to the trolley and popped upstairs to get everyone fed and happy. She also took up some more fruit and soft drinks.

Kim then went through the quotes she received from the UK coach services and collected all the different quotes into one simple spreadsheet. Much easier to compare that way.

Kim then joined her boss in a meeting to talk about her project and go over what has happened since before kim took it over and they discussed what will be happening next.

The towards the end of the day the trolley Kim had left upstairs came back down so she was able to sort all of that out and get things ready to do it all again tomorrow.

Ice Skates

We got home and were only there briefly before we had to walk for 15 minutes to look at some ice skates for Curtis.

We got there and he was a very nice French man who was leaving the country. The skates seemed perfect and were a great price, so we got them and headed home.

Dinner

Kim wasn’t sure what to make with the pork we had taken out of the freezer, but what she made was excellent!

We had paprika-cooked pork with a sauce made of mustard, white wine vinegar & the pork juices. As sides we had German potato salad which Kim got as leftovers from work, our leftover sweet potato and some sweetcorn. A terrific dinner considering we had no plan.

After dinner we watched some YouTube and a couple of TV shows and then went to bed.
