Place 72 – Day 916: Vancouver, BC – Collaborative Working

Curtis’ Day

Curtis woke up early again to watch Great Britain play hockey. They lost 4-1 to Sweden but played pretty well again!

After that, he got ready for the day.

Curtis did some tickets and admin in the morning and then he had a team meeting, after running a laptop down to a courier for Kim.

There was a bit more work to do for Curtis and then he had 2 back to back meetings.

After having lunch, Curtis did the last few tickets of the day and some more admin and then had an offboard to complete, which took over an hour.

Curtis relaxed and played some games whilst Kim was in her games night.

Kim’s Day

Kim has a busy day today, she started with two interviews and then had a bunch of back to back small meetings across the middle of the day.

In the early afternoon Kim had a chat with marketing to go over a few things and make plans for the coming weeks.

She spent a lot of the afternoon working collaboratively with a colleague getting things sorted and organised. Then she had a 1-1 with her teammate before popping out to the shop to get drinks before joining the games night for the evening! It was a lovely way to end the week!

Evening

We picked up some Tacofino for dinner and sat down to relax.

We did very little in the evening, just recovering from a busy week, really.

Curtis is staying up late again to watch the next Great Britain game!

Place 72 – Day 506: Vancouver, BC – Evening Laughs

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a fairly busy morning with some tickets, a team meeting.

Once the morning was done, and so was lunch, Curtis did some training and then wrapped up the day with an offboard.

Curtis played a few games after working with a colleague.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a slow morning before joining a meeting to set up things in the HR system in a way that is more efficient and get a few hints and tips. After the call Kim prepared for her next meeting.

She then had a call with someone to go over candidates for a role that they are recruiting for. After they reviewed the candidates they went over the interview structure and questions to make sure all they would get all the right information and understanding of the applicants.

For the afternoon Kim worked on the document for the HR system, reviewed more candidates and set up a plan for the following week.

At the end of the day Kim had a chat with her new teammate to see how she was doing and just to catch up at the end of the week. It was great!

Evening

We ordered some Peruvian food as we wanted toast week but they were closed!

We atethat and watched some YouTube videos, followed by The Great Fat Quiz of Everything and we had a great laugh at that!

We watched some other TV and played some games.

Place 72 – Day 370: Vancouver, BC – Another Long Day

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a busy day, but varied, which was nice.

Curtis had some tickets to get done and then had his team meeting, which lasted a bit longer than normal, but that was good.

He hopped right into another meeting/discussion after that to talk about an issue that had arisen and how to combat it.

He did some more tickets and then just before lunch he had a meeting which was to get some information on a company initiative and it was informative if not a little confusing.

Curtis had lunch and then right after he and his team did some team building, which was just playing some video games!

When he was finished with that, he did some more tickets and then he did an offboard right at the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim joined a department team meeting in the morning from home and then went into the office after.

Once she made it into the office Kim spent the morning packing up and sending out two laptops. She then joined the east coast social call and had a wonderful time! There were so many people joining and dropping off the call and loads if faces Kim hadn’t seen in a while!

After this Kim had her 1-1 and they went over the first summer party and plans for the next ones and it was great! She then spent a little time working on the quizzes and other bits of admin before joining a couple of people in the kitchen and making some cocktails! Kim was impressed she could make a pina colada from memory, its not a hard drink, but its been a while!

Kim then stayed in the office for a fair few hours to make a big dent in the next few summer parties. She got all but 3 questions written out for the media and news rounds and its such a relief to be able to start next week with a good foundation.

Evening

Once Kim eventually got back home, we had some chicken with potato and some baked beans whilst watching some TV.

We watched some more TV and played some games for the evening.

Place 72 – Day 320: Vancouver, BC – Thursday Is A Monday

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started the morning getting some information on how to fix an issue, which he managed to get good information on.

Curtis answered some questions and did some tickets for the rest of the morning.

After lunch, he walked into the office to fix the issue he was researching this morning.

The person had left him the laptop, which of course Curtis sanitised before and after handling. Curtis was able to get this fixed fairly quick, which was good as it was something new, and he then went back home.

Curtis got back home and did some more tickets and then an offboard.

Kim’s Day

Today is the last day to set up the office and Kim has very little to do. She printed and laminated the last few signs before moving on to putting signs on desks and meeting rooms. She did the smaller side of the building, where she put a sticker and tape on the table leg of desks being used, tape on the floor 6 feet from the chair, to show people the closest they can be. She also put the meeting room signs up and a few distancing reminders.

When Kim got into the kitchen she put up the last few signs and organised the leftover drinks for people to pick up off of a table.

Once she finished with the kitchen, Kim put a few signs up in the bathrooms before hosting a game of Skribbl while she had her lunch.

After lunch Kim and her colleague continuted to put signs on desks to show that they are being used and putting the notifications on meeting room doors.

Mid afternoon Kims manager came in to do a little paperwork and have a tour of the office, as it is totally different from when she was last in. She loved how the office looked, which was great!

After the meeting Kim and her colleague finished putting the signs up. Kim realised she forgot to print a couple of signs, so she made those and popped them up.

It doesn’t sound like a busy day, but Kim didn’t stop! It was a great day and the office is now ready to go! Kim is excited to have people back.

Weird Feeling Evening

We both felt weird this evening, and all day really, as it felt like a Sunday yesterday so today felt like a Monday even though it isn’t.

For dinner we had leftover pasta with a side of ceasar salad along with some homemade garlic bread which was the perfect addition!

We watched some during dinner and then we played a few more new games together which was fun but made time go too fast!

Kim had a bath in the evening as she felt like it and then we watched a thing or two after before sleeping.

Place 72 – Day 258: Vancouver, BC – Moving Apartments!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a quiet start to the morning, but then got a ticket with a request for 19 people to be offboarded!

This took Curtis about 1.75 hours before he was finished.

After that, Curtis had his daily team meeting.

Curtis did some more tickets and then had a quick lunch with Kim.

Curtis had a very productive meeting to discuss returning to work with other members of the company and make some plans with what was going to happen.

Curtis had a few more tickets to do in the afternoon and then attended the happy hour for the week, which was fun, everyone was figuring out what Muppet they would be!

Kim’s Day

As per usual on a Friday Kim hosted the UK Friday social call. It was great, it was a smaller crowd than usual, but a couple of new faces which is nice!

Kim was meant to have a cribbage game after, but it got rescheduled to next week. She then joined a meeting about events coming up in May and how they work with Mental Health Awareness Month. They worked through which events will happen when and how that ties into the communications that will be going out too.

After that meeting Kim had a call with the CEO for a donut catch up. They had a nice talk about VR, the course Kim went on and the plan for the Christmas parties.

Kim had a little time after that meeting and the next social call so she worked on setting up some of the events and drafting up the invites for them. On the east coast social call, there were many new faces again! It was great to just laugh and have a chat with everyone from over there.

After a quick lunch Kim had a team meeting that was a follow on from the meeting last week. Kim then spent the afternoon working on things from the meeting. She finished the day by joining the west coast chat and that was fun!

Moving Apartments!

Today was the last day we have to decide if we will extend out lease, which ends at the end of May.

To help decide this, we went to take a look at an apartment we had seen online.

We went and had a look and it was a lot smaller than what we have and not massively great, either.

This made the decision difficult, but we had to discuss it further.

We got back home and ordered a curry and whilst waiting for that, we did our workout.

We ate our curry and then eventually made our decision that we would move out of this apartment!

We looked at a few apartments and booked some viewings, so we will be busy with that for the near future.

We sat and watched some TV, played some games and that was that.

Place 72 – Day 242: Vancouver, BC – Oculus Quest VR!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started work and did a few tickets.

He then had an offboard to do and his team meeting, followed by more tickets in the morning.

A lot of the afternoon was admin work.

At around the perfect time for Curtis to finish work, a delivery came for him and it was the Oculus Quest VR headset he had been waiting for, which was expected until Monday!

Curtis got this setup right away and gave it a test run…he really enjoyed it, but had to stop as it was time for a walk!

Kim’s Day

Kim held the midweek catch up and had a great chat with a few people, it was really lovely. Straight after that, Kim had the Health and Safety committee meeting.

Funnily enough there were no office walks or first aid incidents to be reported! It was great to speak to the committee and see if they have any thoughts on how we are doing safety wise and open the floor up for people to air concerns about day to day in the current situation. Kim also mentioned that some first aid guidelines have changed and sent out some information after the call.

Kim then spent most of the rest of the morning sending out messages and drafting up invites and emails. She complied a list of some useful YouTube channels for people to show their kids for education purposes.

After lunch Kim had her 1:1 and it was great to get guidance on a few things and have a general catch up! She followed up this meeting by stating a new wiki page about ergonomics and mindfulness at home, she will have a page outlining good working at home exercise and provide people with good resources on how to stay active and keep an eye on their mental health too.
Kim then had a donut date with someone from the office, in this time it is really good that people are able to connect so easily and just have a chat.

Kim started making plans for emails that she will have to send out when she gets back in the office, while doing so she realised it would be easier to make an info sheet that outlines all the things she needs to tell people. So she drafted it up and will send it on to IT for their input after!

Walk & VR-ing

Once Kim was done with her exercise, we went out for a walk.

It was far too busy, but nice to get outside.

We got back home and made some rice to go with the veggie chilli Kim made yesterday and ate that whilst watching some TV.

After this, we played VR together for the first time and we LOVED it. So glad we have that, now we are in self isolation.

We did that for a while and then watched a little TV before sleeping.

Place 72 – Day 209: Vancouver, BC – Panic Buying Has Begun!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had an incredibly busy day.

He started with a quiet day, just setting up a laptop for someone.

He then was told that the company would be announcing company wide office closures as a preventative measure to COVID-19, in a similar vein to how Kim’s place is doing it.

Curtis had to deal with a bunch of things for the closure. Some tickets, getting things prepared like laptops in case they are needed as well as helping with a few other things to assist with the sharing of information and storage of information, too.

Right at the end of the day, once Curtis got a second, he did an offboard and had a Guinness, which was bought for Tuesday to do a St. Patrick’s Day celebration, but as that isn’t happening, he and his colleague had one today!

Kim’s Day

Kim went off to UBC today to do some more learning!

She was in a different classroom today, but still did some learning for her project management course.

She met Curtis after he was done at work and we walked home together.

Panic Buying

We went up to the shop when we got home. Not to panic buy, but just to get a few things for dinner and some stuff we needed.

When we got there, there was very little of use left as everyone is panic buying!

We got what we could and got out of there.

For dinner, we had chicken wraps with lots of salad and vegetables in them, with a Nando’s and ranch sauce, it was actually pretty great.

We just sat around and watched TV…we’ll both be working from home until further notice, so that’ll be fun.

Place 72 – Day 170: Vancouver, BC – A Crazy Busy Friday!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and wanted to spend some time looking for some training and certifications to do.

He was able to find a few things, but nothing major. It was good to see what was out there though.

After that, he did some security based things, answered some tickets and then it was lunch time.

After lunch, Curtis was meant to have a meeting, but something urgent came up which took over an hour to do.

Curtis then had an offboard to complete and then his final thing to do of the day was to fix someone’s outlook on their Mac as it was being very slow. He fixed that and then went home.

Kim’s Day

Kim found more tshirts and sorted them all out into sizes. Halfway through this she joined a few people for hot chocolates from a cafe joining in on the hot chocolate festival, she finished folding the shirts when she got back.

Kim then popped out to pick up a bun and some cheese for lunch, she also grabbed the beer for the Friday drinks while she was out.

When she got back she had a great meeting with a colleague where they went over a few things and also had a catch up, which was great!

Kim then spent a while sending things out through different couriers. After this she also worked on the Wiki project for a while!

Just before 4 Kim set up the Friday afternoon drinks and joined for a couple of glasses of wine! She hasn’t been to one in weeks so it was really nice to catch up with everyone.

Korean!

We ordered Korean food for dinner! We had some food from Disco Cheetah and it was pretty good!

We had a rice bowl with Korean chicken and vegetables which we shared and then we had a bao each, too.

We watched a few episodes of TV and then went to bed. Seems it’s been a long week and we’re incredibly tired!

Place 72 – Day 171: Vancouver, BC – The Migration Is (pretty much) Done!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and was very wet! The rain came down on the way to the office, so he had to sit with wet clothes on for a few hours, which was pleasant!

Most of the things Curtis had booked in for the day were cancelled by the time he got in, so it freed him up quite a bit.

He was able to use that time to catch up on migration news as well as all other required information he missed whilst away.

Curtis was able to do some other things other than project work, such as tickets and some admin he had to get done, but he did still do a lot of project work.

Curtis’ team had a meeting at the end of the day to discuss the project work for the last couple of weeks, positives, negatives and other information.

After the meeting, Curtis had the last migration to kick off and then an offboard to complete before walking home.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a whirlwind of a day! She hardly stopped! The first thing Kim did was attempt to catch up on emails from while she was off.

Shortly after this she and a colleague headed out to a dollar store to pick things up for Halloween. They also grabbed a few items for the Monday night drinks while they were in.

When Kim got back she went to start on the fridge clean out, but then there was a large delivery so Kim had to go through and organise that. Then the pizzas arrived, with no issues!

Kim popped the pizzas ready on the table and ran out to start the fridge clean, she emptied out the fridge and left things on the side so people can claim them if needed.

Kim also compiled everything from the freezers into one draw to allow for a check in in a few days to go through that and empty it.

Once everyone grabbed their pizza Kim kicked off the monthly social talks. They went really smoothly with people coincidentally having very similar or linked talks.

After the talks Kim went back in to finish the fridge clean. She gave the shelves a scrub, put an old shelf back in one of the fridges and binned all of the food left on the side.

Kim then managed to have roughly an hour to set up for Diwali and arrange everything for next week. She started by putting together most of the orders and having them ready to be checked later and sent out.

Kim then helped set up the dewali celebrations by putting out Mandals for people to either colour in or paint.

There was also Henna, tea light holder painting and food!

It was a great little event, Kim managed to grab a samosa before heading back to her desk to continue on with planning for next week.

Kim spent the rest of her day, well into 2 hours after she should have, setting up for the next week.

Kim collected all the items that they might need from flip charts, to pens to whiteboard wipes. Kim even built a new flip chart that may or may not be missing a piece, no one is currently sure. Kim also drew up a new floor plan for the Monday night drinks where the took up some space in front of a fridge to allow for the best space and fridge space possible. Kim then eventually went over the orders with a colleague and got them sent and sorted.

On the way home Kim stopped by H&M and found the perfect top for her routine! That was a massive win. Kim then went to buy a hairband of some kind but it was so busy she bailed!

Kims training this evening was shocking. She wasn’t able to do any of the moves so ended up just getting ready and having a chat with a co owner! Kim then nipped to the supermarket to pick some things up then went home.

Evening

Kim got home quite late from work, but did come bearing gifts!

She brought home some wine and some ‘fancy’ cheese for us to have for dinner at some point and she bought some meats to have with it.

We had some admin to do in the evening, so we did that and went to bed.

Place 72 – Day 166: Vancouver, BC – Sniffles

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a plan to look at an issue for someone in the morning, which is what he did.

He then continued to do some project work from yesterday.

After his daily team meeting, Curtis had a bit more time to do project work and then had to go into the boardroom to test everything in there and setup for the big company wide meeting that was taking place in there.

The test went went and so did the meeting with just a few hiccups in general and none on the Vancouver office side, which was excellent!

After the meeting, Curtis finally had lunch, did some tickets and finally finished off some project work.

Curtis got a beer and drank that whilst completing an off board and then walked home.

Kim’s Day

When Kim got in she started on a few emails before heading into a meeting to talk about catering options for a couple of upcoming functions. It was great to have clarification and fresh eyes!

The rest of the day was much of the same, Kim reconciled payments around other ad hoc tasks like getting the post, trying to return an item for someone and sending outgoing mail.
Kim then had a food delivery and ran that over to the meeting.

It must have been good because 1 by 1 everyone came and told Kim what an amazing meal it was!

Kim then spent about an hour and a half trying to send things via FedEx, it took 3 attempts online and 2 phone calls to get it sorted.

After this Kim continued with the reconciliation a d took a quick break to set up the friday afternoon drinks. Then after that Kim sent out an invite and some information in regards to some diwali celebrations.

Sniffles

We got back home and caught up on some YouTube videos before Kim left for training.

Kim’s Training

Kim’s training this evening went so well. She did 2 run throughs of her routine and was able to add a move back in after falling over in practice doing in.

Kim did not want to have a mental block for the move so she threw it in during the second run and stuck it which is amazing!

Kim also watched 2 other peoples routines and they were spectacular!

Curtis was playing games whilst Kim was out and was feeling bad for himself…He seems to have gotten more of a cold even though he thought he was getting better! He started to get a runny nose and more of a sore throat, unfortunately.

When Kim got back home, we watched a bit more TV and went to bed. We need to be up at a good time tomorrow!
