Place 72 – Day 969: Vancouver, BC – In Person Colleagues!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis woke up with no plan to go to the office until later, but he has some colleagues who are in the Vancouver office from the Winnipeg office, so he went in to see them and help them out with some stuff.

Curtis got there and then started setting up a laptop he needed to setup and he helped out his colleagues with the things they were doing, and he did a lot of tickets, too.

Once he did the tickets, he helped a colleague with some account set ups, and then he finished up the laptop setup.

When the setup was done, he did more tickets and had a quick meeting to discuss a software integration.

The late afternoon was taken up by getting a laptop of an old employee setup for someone to login to and then he started setting up another laptop for someone, which he needs to finish tomorrow.

After finishing work, Curtis went to pick up a package and then walked home.

Once he got home, Curtis played some games whilst Kim went out to an appointment.

Kim’s Day

Kim had another really interesting day! She started by turning up to a meeting with the executive team, so that was better than yesterday! They reviewed a few job descriptions and sorted a couple of other things out.

Kim then had a couple of 1-1s. Her first was to discuss a new hire and how things are going and the second was with her teammate to discuss projects and next steps. She then provided the weekly update to the company before joining a call with another teammate to update a few accounts and get some IT stuff done.

Kim then had a meeting to discuss a couple of processes and then she joined another meeting to give a quick update and get approval on a couple of things. After those Kim joined a meeting about non development hiring and the next steps there before joining an interview. After the interview Kim had a review and a quick mini team meeting for most of the afternoon. It was great!

Evening

After Kim got home from her appointment, we had homemade chicken burgers for dinner and relaxed for the evening. Just a couple of days now until Curtis gets his surgery!

Place 72 – Day 928: Vancouver, BC – Looking At (Shared) Offices

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had to go to the office this morning to setup a laptop for a new hire.

He actually got that laptop setup and packaged pretty quickly, but he also had to setup another laptop in a different way and that took a bit more time. That one was for someone to swap to as they are having issues with their current laptop.

After completing that process and being ready to leave te office, he luckily checked that laptop and noticed it was not done right, so he had to do it again. It was lucky that he noticed!

Curtis walked back home and met Kim as she was on her way home and she had coffee!

The afternoon was mostly tickets and catching up from the morning. He also had a security incident to take care of, as well!

Kim’s Day

To start the day Kim had a team meeting to go over the RACI as she and her teammate missed the meeting that was due to happen the day before. They added and assigned tasks and were able to get a fair amount done.

She then popped to a shared office tour, with her teammate, ro see if the space would be a good fit. After that they had a mini meeting in the park to review it and soak up some sun.

When she got back Kim had a little time to work on some admin before the book club meeting. She enjoyed learning about how to read poetry and is hoping that the book club will allow her to enjoy that art form and move away from seeing poetry in the same way she would at school. After this she had a great chat with someone as part of the donut imitative.

In the afternoon Kim trained her teammate on placing orders and went through a few things with her. She then had a call with the HR person from the consultancy company she worked to get some training, support and direction for herself, it was awesome!

She then had another RACI meeting with another team to help them and then after a bit of a break she had a quick meeting with her teammate to discuss planning for the future and how the team might look.

Evening

For dinner, we had leftovers from yesterday. We did our daily walk which we are really enjoying, it’s great to clear our heads after work!

We watched some TV and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 886: Vancouver, BC – Laptops, All Day

Curtis’ Day

Curtis headed right to the office this morning as he had some things to get done there.

He started by setting up a laptop and getting together equipment to send out with the laptop.

Whilst doing that, Curtis did some tickets and other things, too.

Someone then dropped off their laptop and Curtis and to wipe and re-setup that laptop as it was having some issues. That didn’t actually take as long as expected, so that gave him some extra time.

The person came and picked up their laptop in the late afternoon and Curtis was able to give them that with no issues.

Curtis then headed home around 16:30 and when he got home, he had lunch as he hadn’t had it yet today!

Curtis then watched hockey whilst Kim did some work.

Kim’s Day

To start the day Kim joined a meeting about a new projects one of her colleagues might be working on she then joined a recruitment meeting but only her teammate showed up, so they had a quick chat and check in before Kim joined an interview.

After the interview and the review Kim went to a team meeting where everyone gave updates about projects they are working on. She went from this into another interview and review before completing some paperwork and sending it out.

After a quick lunch Kim had two catch ups with teammates to see how they are doing and update each other on projects. Kim then joined her final interview of the day, has the review and then completed some more paperwork.

Evening

We had potato, peas and mushrooms for dinner and then chilled out. We both had very long, busy days so we needed to just zone out.

Place 72 – Day 864: Vancouver, BC – Sofa Is Built & Registered For Vaccine!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went to the office in the morning and had to setup 2 laptops, as well as find equipment to send out to the new hires.

The office is running low on equipment before they get an order, so finding some items was a bit of a challenge.

Curtis finished that up at about 12:00 and then did some tickets whilst he waited for someone to arrive to collect a monitor.

Once that person was gone, Curtis had a meeting with a colleague to discuss a process and then once he was done with that meeting, he walked home and had some lunch.

After lunch, he had to generate some reports for someone and had some tickets to deal with which took him nicely to the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a day full of back to back meetings and interviews! In the morning Kim had her team meeting to go over the plan for the week. She went from this into an interview, then straight into the weekly meeting and then into a second interview. She then had a meeting with the hiring managers to discuss the interviews. It was a really productive and interesting morning!

To start the afternoon Kim had a meeting about planning and next steps for a project. It was so interesting and it turns out Kim was approaching it all the wrong way, she learnt so much!

For a good chunk of the afternoon Kim worked with her teammate on setting up interviews and sending out paperwork. She then had a chat with another teammate before heading out to the new apartment to continue building the sofa. She also had a great chat with a friend while she did the final bits to the sofa.

Sofa Is Built & Registered For Vaccine!

Before work this morning, we registered for our notification to get a vaccine! We don’t get a vaccine for a while, but a new registration site went live so you can get instructions and a code for when you can get a vaccine.

This makes it feel just that little bit closer!

After work, Kim went over to the apartment to complete the sofa as the items we were missing arrived in the mail and we now have a constructed sofa, which is great.

Kim chatted with a friend after that and then headed back to our current apartment so we could have some dinner.

We ate delicious lemon chicken!

We got notice that there will be a viewing tomorrow, which is the first one with the new owners. We’ve been enjoying not having any, and our final week is the worst possible time, but what can we do. That’ll be happening tomorrow evening but maybe we get out for an evening walk.

Place 72 – Day 858: Vancouver, BC – Busy Wednesday Workday

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went to the office once ready in the morning and had to setup a laptop, as well as get some other equipment boxed up for the new hire.

It took a couple of hours to get that done, but he also had a 1 on 1 with his manager during that time.

At 13:30, the new hire collected their equipment and Curtis headed home.

Curtis was very hungry, so he and Kim had lunch once he got home.

After lunch, it was a pretty busy afternoon, mostly with tickets, but it was good to keep busy.

Curtis then watched hockey after work.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a busy day, lots of little meetings! To start she got some admin done by sending out another survey for people. She then had an impromptu meeting to help a colleague send paperwork. Kim then attended the first of two interviews for the day and then joined a meeting about recruitment.

At midday Kim joined a weekly team meeting and then went into the second interview. Straight after the interview everyone jumped on a call to discuss the candidates and next steps.

In the middle of the afternoon Kim had a little time to get things done so she went through some of her emails and was able to complete a few action items. She then had a weekly catch up with a teammate, which was lovely as per usual. Then they both joined a weekly marketing meeting which was so interesting and fun!

For the rest of the day Kim managed to go through more of her emails and send off some HR paperwork too! Then Kim had a great call with her friend from her old job. It’s been so nice keeping in more regular contact!

Evening

We had chilli for dinner and watched some TV. It was a busy day for both of us, so nice to relax.

Place 72 – Day 856: Vancouver, BC – We Have The Keys!

Curtis’ Morning

Curtis had a 09:00 IT orientation with someone which went well, and then he got some work done before he had a team meeting for 1 hour.

New Apartment!

After the meeting, we both went to get the keys to the new apartment! We also did an inspection and asked a few questions etc to our new landlord.

We now have the keys and could start moving a few things there, if we like, which is exciting!

We got back home and had some lunch and then got back on with working.

Curtis’ Afternoon

Curtis had another team meeting about projects and then he got some accounts setup for a new user.

Once that was done, it was the end of the busy work day!

Kim’s Day

Kim had a lovely slower morning where she was able to prepare for the week. She then had her weekly team meeting where they planned their projects for the next few weeks.

Once she got back from picking up the keys to the new apartment and had lunch Kim did a little admin before joining an call about rolling out a project Kim had been working on for the past few months. The call was with a vendor and went over how it will be implemented. It was great!

She then worked on booking interviews and updating job descriptions.

Evening

Curtis watched hockey and Kim finished up some work and then we had sausages and mash for dinner!

We ate and watched some TV as well as discussed which things we might start taking over to the new apartment.

We went back to the new apartment after dinner to take over the desk we bought. It was so nice and quiet and the elevators were no issue at all, unlike our current place.

We then went to the liquor store and bought some prosecco and a few other bits as it’s our 10 year anniversary tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 517: Vancouver, BC – Requirements Discussion & HR Things

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very busy morning with many questions and tickets being directed his way.

At 10:30, Curtis had a Norwegian lesson which went excellently and then he got back to many messages and tickets again.

Shortly after finishing his lesson, he had a meeting around a project to discuss requirements and ensure that everyone was on the same page. That went well and progress was made, which is terrific!

We had some lunch and then Curtis did some project work and managed to start and finish a project in an hour.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by continuing on with putting some of the HR documents on to the HR system as a template. She then joined the weekly meeting and provided updates for the department she is in.

After the meeting Kim wrote up a few things for her colleague and sent them over. She then joined a meeting to discuss a candidate, which went well.

In the afternoon Kim focused on finishing the HR paperwork she started earlier and also updated some other information on that system too.

Kim also managed to get a few things done for the facilities project.

Evening

Kim went out to the shop to get some wine for the dinner (and to drink a little, of course) and something from the pharmacy.

We made a mushroom and tomato pasta which we’ve not had for a while and it was excellent!

We ate and relaxed for the evening and had a few discussions with the agent who is selling our apartment with regards to what we need to do etc.

Place 72 – Day 432: Vancouver, BC – Full Bathroom Clean

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting at 10:30, so did a bit of work before that.

The meeting was good and after that he did some more tickets.

In the afternoon, Curtis setup accounts for a new starter and did some other tickets, too.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent most of the day doing a deep clean of the bathroom. We noticed it needed to be cleaned, so Kim said she wanted to do it during the day whilst Curtis is working.

This took a couple of hours and then Kim did some more research for the permanent residency we need to get and we now know a little more about what is required and we’ve sent off some emails we need to send to get some information and items.

Risotto

Kim wanted to make some risotto, so she had to go and get some wine as well as some other things for the risotto, such as parmesan cheese.

Kim made the risotto and we watched some TV whilst we ate.

We then watched a Netflix show about designing homes, which is something we love to watch!

Kim had to do her background check for her new job so she did that and we chilled out after that.

Place 72 – Day 419: Vancouver, BC – Finding New Clothes

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started the day with an orientation. He chatted with a new hire and ensured they could do everything they needed to and answered any of their questions.

Not long after that, Curtis had his long weekly team meeting and then did some tickets before lunch.

After lunch, Curtis got his personal learning plan written up and sent off to the required people and then he did a few more tickets as well as some admin.

Kim’s Day

After a relaxing morning Kim went to apply to two jobs, but ended up sending applications in for about 7 roles. So thats exciting!

In preparation for interviews Kim thought it would be a good idea to have some interview clothes ready so she popped to a few places but didn’t find anything. She is also trying to buy less stuff in general so she went to a thrift shop, but unfortunately there wasn’t anything in her size that Kim could wear to an interview. When she got home Kim did find some shoes that would work, so she might get those!

Evening

We had leftovers from last night’s roast for dinner and it was as delicious as it was yesterday.

We watched a bit of TV and then Curtis drove off to hockey at around 21:30.

As the game is late, we will let you know the score tomorrow!

In the evening Kim decided on swapping out her summer to winter clothes. She collected the winter stuff from the storage locker in the car park and sorted through all of her clothes. She has now found a few more items to donate, so thats good!

Once Curtis gets back home it will be pretty late, so it will be right to bed after a shower.

Place 72 – Day 405: Vancouver, BC – Back To Evening Walks

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got up and was sure to get a coffee as soon as possible, as he had to go to the office.

Curtis had his coffee and did some tickets, then he walked down to the office.

Once he got there, Curtis got the things he needed out of the storage and got to work setting up a laptop and the accounts for a new starter on Monday.

This took pretty much the entire first half of the day, and he got that all packaged up and booked a courier to take that tomorrow.

Curtis left the office and walked back home.

After he got home, Curtis had some lunch and then got back to work.

Curtis had some work to do in the afternoon and it went pretty quick.

Kim’s Day

Kim got ready for the day and then did a little housework and then started looking for jobs again.

Kim applied to a couple of jobs that she really liked the look of before lunch and then after lunch Kim applied to a lot more which is very promising!

Evening Walk

When Curtis finished work and Kim finished applying for jobs, we headed out to go for a bit of a walk!

We walked down to the seawall and walked for a while, but swung around to get to the store to get a carrot and some spring onions for dinner.

We were at the store for a while as it was very busy, but once we got home, Kim made some chicken egg fried rice.

We watched some TV for the evening and also we looked into a bit of immigration stuff for next year (exciting!).
