Place 72 – Day 882: Vancouver, BC – Lazy Rainy Saturday

We woke up much later then planned, but it was very nice to get some sleep.

We had some scrambled egg on toast for breakfast and watched a bit of TV.

We then got ourselves showered and fresh for the day. As it was rainy and gross today, we planned to just sit inside and relax. We briefly went out to get a coffee and then came back home.

Curtis watched hockey whilst Kim did some reading. Kim got very into the book she was reading and read it for hours!

Once that was done, we had leftovers for dinner and then watched some TV, followed by a movie called Miss Bala.

Place 72 – Day 575: Vancouver, BC – A Broken Battery

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got some admin and tickets done in the first part of the morning and then at 10:00 he walked down to the office to meet someone and replace their laptop battery.

The person arrived shortly after Curtis did so he got the battery swapped out and tested it and all seemed to be working as expected, which was excellent.

Curtis then walked back home and had some tickets to do as well as a meeting with his team and some others from the company to discuss some processes and how they can be improved.

After that was done, it was time to action on some of the points they made in the meeting and also do some tickets.

We then had lunch together and after lunch it was fairly quiet for Curtis but he did do some tickets, admin and helped a colleague figure out something strange.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a meeting in the morning to discuss the org chart and hiring for the next few months. She then popped out to pick up a cocktail kit for someone. Kim had planned to drop it off too, but it took so long for her to get to the car that she didn’t have time.

Once Kim was home she joined a meeting straight away and discussed recruitment with all the hiring managers. she then hosted a dance party where everyone danced to Bye Bye Bye, then Stop by Spice girls and Kim showed her colleagues the Fast Food Song they were confused!!

For the beginning of the afternoon Kim was able to get some admin done and then she joined a few meetings. The first was a team meeting, the second was a follow on from the marketing meeting yesterday and then the third was an end of week catch up with her teammate.

To finish the day Kim delivered a cocktail and then spent some time writing up job descriptions.

Evening

Kim worked fairly late and we didn’t plan anything for dinner, so we had pizza.

Once we ate, we watched some more of Drive To Survive in anticipation for the new season tomorrow!

We watched that and some other things and then we headed to bed. There was some construction going on outside our apartment this morning which woke us, so we were tired.

Place 72 – Day 512: Vancouver, BC – Bank Letters Received!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a 90 minute company wide meeting at 09:00 and then after that, for the remainder of the day, he had a bunch of tickets to complete.

He worked with someone for a couple of hours trying to get something fixed and he is pretty sure he got that sorted for them, by the end of the day.

Overall, Curtis had a successful day and was able to get some letters from the bank that he and Kim were waiting for to use for PR.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a team meeting in the morning so she got ready for that and joined. After the meeting Kim prepared for another meeting by reviewing candidates to refresh her memory. She also helped the person in the meeting with a job posting that they have.

Towards the middle of the day Kim had a facilities call that went very well and she went straight from that into the weekly HR call. Then from that call Kim joined another, new, facilities project call!

In the afternoon Kim worked on a some paperwork and ordered a couple of laptops to collect. She also called her colleague so they could work on some of the paperwork together.

Evening

We ate pizza for dinner and watched a really funny Icelandic comic called Ari Eldjárn (it was an English set) for an hour and it was a great laugh!

We then played some games and watched some further TV.

We got the bank letters uploaded and tomorrow we have a medical exam, which will strike off another thing we need to do.

Place 72 – Day 508: Vancouver, BC – A 2020 Recap

We woke up and had a super lazy morning.

We had some crepes for breakfast and watched a bit of TV before getting ourselves ready.

It was raining, so we went up to Starbucks, got a coffee and came back home.

We did a lot of laundry and other cleaning and then sat down to watch some TV and play games.

We got hungry and so Kim made some chicken burgers we saw in the cook book.

They were delicious! We had then with curly fries and a ceasar salad.

We watched Death to 2020, which is on Netflix and it’s a satirical recap of 2020, which was funny!

We watched some more TV after this and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 479: Vancouver – BC – A Little Christmas Shopping

We woke up at a fairly decent time na shad some cinnamon buns for breakfast.

After breakfast, we got ourselves ready and went out for a walk. We had sunshine today which was wonderful, though it was still cold.

We got ourselves a coffee and then walked to the beach.

We left the beach and headed back towards home, but we stopped in at a few stores to find some Christmas presents. The first bit of ‘proper’ Christmas shopping this year.

Unfortunately, we didn’t find what we were looking for, so we left and went back home.

We got back home and relaxed for a bit and watched a bit of TV.

We then started to get hungry, so we went to the supermarket to get the food for the week.

We got back home and had a very easy dinner and watched some quick TV.

After that, we watched The Queen’s Gambit again, which we are really enjoying, and then watched some other TV and played some games.

Place 72 – Day 432: Vancouver, BC – Full Bathroom Clean

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting at 10:30, so did a bit of work before that.

The meeting was good and after that he did some more tickets.

In the afternoon, Curtis setup accounts for a new starter and did some other tickets, too.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent most of the day doing a deep clean of the bathroom. We noticed it needed to be cleaned, so Kim said she wanted to do it during the day whilst Curtis is working.

This took a couple of hours and then Kim did some more research for the permanent residency we need to get and we now know a little more about what is required and we’ve sent off some emails we need to send to get some information and items.

Risotto

Kim wanted to make some risotto, so she had to go and get some wine as well as some other things for the risotto, such as parmesan cheese.

Kim made the risotto and we watched some TV whilst we ate.

We then watched a Netflix show about designing homes, which is something we love to watch!

Kim had to do her background check for her new job so she did that and we chilled out after that.

Place 72 – Day 385: Vancouver, BC – Grouse Grind, Bears & Dead Battery!

Grouse Grind

We were up at 08:30 and had some egg on toast for breakfast.

After breakfast, we got ready and then Curtis went down to the drug store to get Mars bars and Red Bull.

We then left the apartment and went down to the car to drive up to Grouse Mountain!

We got to the mountain and started making our way up. The Grouse Grind is notorious for being pretty tough, with its 2000+ stairs (plus rocks to climb up etc) & 2 hour completion time!

We started the hike and saw a squirrel right away, which was a great start!

The further up we got, the more challenging it became and we did have to stop quite a few times to regain our breath and stamina.

Towards the end, we got into the clouds and could even see them moving around us.

We eventually got to the top in just 1 hour 20 minutes, which we were very happy with!

Bears!

At the top, there are a few things to do, such as food, drink, disc golf and a bear enclosure!

We obviously had to go and see the bears, so we did just that.

We spent a while looking at the bears and they were pretty active. One of them even had a bath!

Once we were done with the bears, we walked to grab a quick beer before heading down on the gondola!

The beer was perfectly refreshing and just what we needed.

After such as awesome day, we got in the distanced gondola and made our way to the bottom of the mountain.

Once we got there, there was a Starbucks, so we grabbed a coffee and went to the car.

Dead Battery

Once we got in the car, we tried to start it and nothing happened!

Turns out, the battery had died, but we hadn’t left anything on so it must have been it’s time.

We eventually found a tow company that could come and help us, but after we scheduled with them, a couple said they would help jump start us and that worked perfectly, so we cancelled the tow truck and drove to Canadian Tire to get the battery changed!

We got that booked in and had to wait about 30/40 minutes for that to be swapped over, so we did a bit of shopping.

We got a wok which we’ve wanted for a while and then went to the liquor store to get some beer for tonight, which we needed for sure!

We got our car and headed back home.

First Ever Poutine!

We showered when we got home and then ordered some food.

We wanted to try poutine for the first time, so we ordered a burger each with a side ceasar salad each and a side of poutine and some sweet potato fries.

We watched the film ‘love Guaranteed’ which wasn’t great, but was something to watch.

We played some more Tony Hawk Skateboarding and watched a bit more TV but we were very tired after our long hike!

Place 72 – Day 363: Vancouver, BC – Both Working At Home Again

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was ask a few questions around an onboard right in the morning.

After answering those, Curtis did some admin and then blocked some phishing email addresses that people had reported in the last week.

Curtis then had his daily team meeting followed by helping someone with a password issue, which took about 45 minutes.

Once Curtis was finished with that, he had to purchase something for the Vancouver office and then did some more small tickets before lunch.

After lunch, Curtis had a quick call to go over something with someone in his team and then had his bi-weekly team meeting to discuss project work over the last couple of weeks.

Kim’s Day

Kim was working from home today!

Kim started her day with the UK call and had a wonderful catch up with one of the people out there. She then spent most of the morning finishing the news UK quiz before testing it on her family. Unfortunately that call didnt go so well! Her parents connection kept dropping so Kim ran through the questions with her sister to check for timing and wording changes that need to be made.

Kim also did a little admin before and after the call. She reached out to someone who is leaving and made a payment for her colleague.

After the call with her sister Kim joined the east coast social call and had a great chat with those people. Then Kim had a quick lunch before making a few changes to the quiz she tested today. Once she had made the changes Kim started working on the our people quiz for the UK.

She ended her day with the west coat call and had a great time. We had a few new starters on the call and it was lovely!

Evening

We ordered an Indian from our favourite Indian place which we haven’t had in a while and it was delicious!

We watched some YouTube videos whilst we ate dinner and then we watched the film Desperados on Netflix which wasn’t great but wasn’t terrible.

We watched some more TV for the evening and played some games.

Place 72 – Day 350: Vancouver, BC – Emancipation Day March

We woke up and had some breakfast and then got ourselves ready.

We walked down to Kim’s office where Kim planned to setup a camera to capture a timelapse of the Emancipation Day march.

Unfortunately, nothing seemed to happen for a while, which was odd, so we walked down to where it was meant to start to see what was happening.

There was a large group gathered with live music playing and some speaches. We hung out here for about 1 hour until the march started.

We then followed the march for a while, just a little bit back, but then it started to bunch up quite a bit and we were uncomfortable with this (we were distanced and wearing masks, but it got a little close). The march was very well done and moving, for sure. We were very happy to have attended.

We then left the march and grabbed a coffee.

We walked back home and relaxed for a bit.

Kim then went out to some shops to return some times and was even able to find some new clothes and shoes!

When Kim got back, we went out to the supermarket to get our shop done.

We came back home and had our leftover Korean chicken for dinner.

We then watched the film Disclosure which is about Trans representation in the media. It was very interesting and informative.

We then played some mini golf and watched a bit more TV.

Place 72 – Day 340: Vancouver, BC – Fjäll Raven Bag & Failed Comet Sighting

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a busy morning, with a lot of tickets coming in and a few questions being asked.

Curtis had his team meeting half way through the morning too, and did a few more tickets until lunch.

Once lunch was done, it was a little quieter but then it got a bit busier at the end of the day, with a few tickets coming in that Curtis dealt with.

Kim’s Day

Kim took her first call of the day from home and it was lovely! There was one familiar face and then three newbies who joined.

A while after Kim got in the office she had a meeting with her team in regards to events coming up and it went well! They loved the pitch from Kim’s colleague and they really liked Kims ideas for games and theme! After that meeting, two other colleagues joined Kim in passing over the information to their manager who also loved the idea.

Kim spent some time working on the invites and other communications for the events until she had her 1-1 with her manager. It was a wonderful catch up. They spoke about the events and the competition Kim is running.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim, finally, out her head down and worked on some return to office communications that she needed to finish. She is finally really happy with them as they cover the information that is needed and easy to read!

Fjäll Raven Bag & Failed Comet Sighting

We went out as soon as Kim was done with work, so we could make it to the Fjäll Raven store before it closed.

Kim wanted to get a bag from there as they’re comfy and compact…And they look great, of course.

As we were out, we grabbed some food from A&W. This was Curtis’ first time having it and he really did enjoy it.

We watched some TV, played some mini golf and then watched the first episode of the new season of Norsemen which is such a good series!

We then went out around 21:30 to see if we could spot the Neowise comet which was meant to be visible today.

We walked down to the harbour, about 30 minutes walk, but unfortunately, we waited until 22:30 but we didn’t see it at all.
