Place 72 – Day 128: Vancouver, BC – Wrapping Presents!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis spent most of his day dealing with auction related things.

He took quite a bit of cash from people and gave them the laptops they bought.

Curtis got some ticket work done and got started on a new project.

He was able to get some answers from Zoom finally, after the person was off sick yesterday, which was why he didn’t join the call then.

After lunch, Curtis configured the new software they were going to use and that was also when he started the new project, so he was busy but not too busy.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent a fair amount of her day catching up on invoices but she did have a catch up with her colleague who has been gone for the past few weeks.

They had a great chat and went over everything that she had missed and she told Kim a little about her trip, it was great!

Kim then started to set up for the potluck and had to quickly run out to a shop to pick up some table cloths.

When she got back Kim set up the hot chocolate and Baileys station and a table for the cookie decorating. Kim then joined everyone for some lunch.

After lunch Kim had a 1:1 with her boss. Kim asked if she could head out early on Thursday to catch a bus, but then her boss said that Kim could just take the whole of Thursday off, as a thank you for the long hours on Friday for the party! It is very nice, but strange, for Kim to feel so appreciated and supported.

She then continued with invoices and spent the final part of the day clearing down from the potluck.

Wrapping Presents

We both got home and then Kim went out to pole.

Curtis watched the leafs game and during so, he had cheese and crackers for dinner.

Whilst Kim was out, Curtis wrapped her Christmas presents, so she didn’t see!

That was all done, which is great, and then Curtis just chilled.

Kim got back home and had some food whilst we watched some TV.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to the office at a good time and got caught up.

He checked a backup he was doing for a project and that seemed to be done, so he got that project ticked off right away!

After his brief team meeting, Curtis got on with some tickets that had come in, either over the weekend or the start of the day.

Curtis had a brief chat with some colleagues regarding the hackathon happening at the end of the weekand he then was meant to have a meeting with Zoom but they never showed up!

Curtis had his weekly team meeting where a few answers to questions were provided and a few things spoken about by the team, which was positive.

After lunch, Curtis had to sort out the auction.

The auction finished at 15:00, so Curtis spent the rest of his workday reading the bids, figuring out who won and then a few other caveats. There was a rule for one person to only win 2, which was a problem when pretty much the top 5 people were the same on every one of the 21 laptops!

It took a while, but Curtis got most of the winners notified and asked them to bring money tomorrow.

The company has made around $11000 from each office for the laptops, half of which will be going off to charity!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by organising fruit and delivering post to everyone. After this she had a meeting in regards to the intranet and the plans for it going forward.

After the meeting Kim went out to get baileys for hot chocolates tomorrow, she also got some chocolates for the front desk.

When she got back into the office Kim had some lunch and then organised some of the decorations from the party. She has now got some twinkly lights on in the kitchen and a small army of snowmen behind her desk.

Car Sitting

We got home and Curtis got his hockey stuff ready and in the car.

Whilst Curtis was doing that, Kim was making fajitas! The fajitas were delicious, as you’d expect.

We watched some videos and then both Curtis and Kim jumped in the car to go to Kim’s pole class.

Curtis went with Kim and sat in the car as he had a hockey game shortly after Kim’s session finished.

After the session, they headed to the rink for Curtis’ game.

Hockey

The hockey game was another close one! Curtis played a lot more defensive this game and it seemed to help out.

The team Curtis was playing was the top placed team, but Curtis’ team won 2-1!

We came back home, Kim had some dinner and we then went to bed.

Fry Up!

We both really fancied a fry up this morning and although we didn’t have everything for it, we made it work!

We had a sausage, egg and cheese muffin with beans and hash browns. Some bacon would have made it perfect, but it was already exactly what we wanted.

Air Vents

We got ready for the day and then we went out to grab a coffee.

We stopped in at Home Depot to see if they had any closable air vents as the ones we currently have cannot be closed and it is freezing! We didn’t find any, so we just went for a coffee.

We got a coffee from Starbucks and it was one of the best from there we have had!

Kim didn’t actually have a coffee, but a hot chocolate and Curtis had a flat white.

We finished up our coffee and headed home, where Kim sorted out some videos we had on the GoPro, which was something we have been meaning to do for a while now.

Free Clothes?!

Kim went shopping whilst Curtis watched hockey as she has a bonus from work to spend from work on work clothes!

She drove out to Metropolis which was quite busy. Once parked, Kim went to a LOT of shops, looking for different things and trying them on.

Kim was there for a total of around 4 or so and it was a bit productive but she didn’t get as much as she had hoped.

Church’s Chicken

We had been told that Church’s Chicken was good, compared to KFC at least.

Kim drove past one on the way home and thought it would be a good time to try!

We ate this whilst we watched some TV and chilled out for the evening.

The chicken was alright, but the breading was odd.

Providing we get good weather, we plan to do something fun tomorrow!

Coffee & Homesense

We eventually left the house and went up to check out a few things we needed from Homesense, but first, coffee!

Curtis wanted to get a cardamom latte to see if that is any good, but they didn’t have any, so he got a cappucino instead whilst Kim got a salted caramel hot chocolate.

We sat and relaxed for a bit and then went up to Homesense to find a few things. The main things we wanted were;

  • A duvet
  • An airtight contantainer for coffee
  • A dressing gown for Kim

We were able to get these things pretty easily and Curtis was also able to find a coat which he needed, and it was half price!

We got all of this (which was quite a bit of money) and then took it home before heading back out to go to the supermarket. We spent around $150 there which wasn’t too bad, but it was busy in there today.

Homemade Beef Stew

We got back home and Kim spent a couple of hours making a delicious beef stew with dumplings and a side of cauliflower cheese. A perfect warming dinner as the weather starts to get colder.

We settled and watched Vikings and had some ice cream.

A great Sunday night!

Place 72 – Day 20: Vancouver,BC – We Both Got Jobs!

Morning Phone Interview

Kim had an interview at 10:00. This was for a hospitality app in which you can get one off shifts and work, which may be good to get a bit extra cash.

This was very successful and Kim was told she would be approved!

3rd Interview

Kim had another interview today, so she had to head down to the city.

Kim got there and the interview lasted just 25 minutes, with it being more of a character check.

We Both Got Jobs!

Whilst Kim was at her interview, Curtis received a call offering him a job! This was the exact job he wanted and he is very excited. He had to get a lot of paperwork done for that and he starts on Tuesday.

When Kim got home from her interview, she also got a call offering her the job! We both got jobs and the exact jobs we wanted.

Also on the plus side, both jobs are in the city and we are just 10-15 minute walk from each other.

We were pretty happy with today, so it was celebration time.

Chicken

We started our celebrations with chicken from KFC. We walked down to KFC to get a few tenders and some popcorn chicken.

Pub

We came back home and relaxed for a bit and then decided we should treat ourselves and get a drink.

We found a pub which was underground and went and Curtis got a beer whilst Kim got a wine. We sat and just relaxed in the really nice pub before we walked back home.

What Men Want (film)

We got home and ate ice cream whilst watching the film What Men Want. The film was alright, kind of funny and an easy watch.

What Men Want

Rating:- 6.5/10

We are looking forward to the next part of our lives, now we have a home sorted as well as jobs…exciting times!

Place 70 – Day 15: Victoria, BC – Hidden Money!

We had no plans for today, other than some admin.

After breakfast, Curtis called up a bank from the UK as he had an ISA which he hasn’t even looked at for 2 years and he wanted to take that money out of the ISA. It was an easy phone call and Curtis even had a lot more money than expected, which is great!

We spoke with Kim’s family for a while as we are planning a trip with them again, so we had to smooth out the details for that as well as book accommodation.

We eventually left the house just for a walk down town, but we then got hungry so we went to Tim Hortons for a toasted wrap each with a doughnut and hot drink.

We left Tim Hortons and had to go to the shop to get milk and orange juice, so we made our way there.

It started snowing again when we left the supermarket, but we got home without getting too covered in snow.

We spent some of the evening booking other flights, and we are nearly finished with that which is good.

Linda made us chicken cutlets with vegetables and a baked potato.

Curtis then watched the Leafs game as it was a 19:00 game, so that went on until bed time!
